*solved*Amarok not playing mp3s

never had a problem before. all of a sudden I am getting these errors.
The xine-engine claims it cannot play MP3 files.
No suitable demux plugin. This often means that the file format is not supported.
Plays fine w/ sudo amarok
I am part of the audio group. I can play mp3s and others w/ my other players.
Edit: followed this advice I found through googleing
In your /home/user/.xine folder there is a hidden file called catalog.cache.  Make a backup copy of that then copy catalog.cache file from the new account you created.
I just copied my root catalog.cache to my users

I'm gonna assume you have xine installed, given you have xine-engine.  So try "xine [some song].mp3" in a terminal and see if it posts any messages.  That'll give us a hint at least.

    I have my system updated.

    Same problem here - also for kalarm. Now I will probably oversleep tomorrow.
    Well, another file format could solve that problem...

  • Firefox for Android will not play mp3

    Hi! Why does Firefox for Android will not play mp3? For example the tracks on this page do not play http://audiobook-online.com/?page_id=33 . Firefox for windows plays mp3.
    Alexander

    Hello,
    I've just tested and the mp3s on that page work fine for me. When I first visited the site I see a prompt at the top of the screen: "This page contains plugin content. Would you like to enable plugins".
    I clicked Activate and the audio played fine.
    If the pop-up doesn't appear then you can try enabling plugins across all pages. See here:
    [[How do I watch Flash videos with Firefox for Android?|Play Flash Content Without Tapping]]
    But be aware that there are security implications with this option. It is safer to keep flash as tap-to-play. There is more information on this in the article.
    I hope that helps.

  • [solved] dolphin do not play mp3 in sidebar

    As i navigate to my music-folder and mark an mp3-file, dolphin shows on the seidebar a little player with some extra information like Typ or Tags. But if i trie to play this file with the button, nothing happens. If i try to move forward within the file with the slider, i could only move the entire window.
    Maybe i miss a package?
    qmmp plays all files well.

    Check in System Settings > Multimedia if phonon outputs sound. Check if amarok or dragonplayer play mp3 files. If you're using phonon-gstreamer, you need gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins to decode mp3 files.

  • [SOLVED] unable to play mp3 or flac files in mpd, .dts files play fine

    I had a perfect running mpd setup before I tried to fiddle around with some dependancies to get xbmc-svn to compile without errors. I installed some AUR packages (ffmpeg-svn, x264-git, libva-sds, libvpx, libid3tag).
    After that I started to experience trouble with mpd, it start fine and says it plays audio files just fine but whenever i play a mp3 or flac file the progress bar just looks like it's playing the file but I hear no sound. Whenever I play a .dts file i hear the sound correct.
    I'm very curious to why this happends.
    I rolled back the packages mentioned above but the issue remains unsolved.
    My setup: pc is connected to receiver by hdmi cable using the latest alsa version with digital passthrough over hdmi, currently using mpd-git from AUR

    the box. A major problem with pseudo streams is their interaction with the internet cache. It is possible to overload the cache with extended listening sessions and eventually use up all the storage on the device. This is the big reason
    pseudo streaming is not supported.
    I would recommend that you check with the stream provider and ask them what streaming protocol they are using. If they are simply using HTTP with no underlying streaming protocol such as HLS or DASH then they are using pseudo streaming and you may have
    problems with playback on the current and future Microsoft platforms.
    If you know that the stream provider's content is consistent (or you are the content provider) one possible solution is to write a custom
    MediaStremSource that will handle the network interactions, local cacheing and packet parsing. You can then pass the parsed samples down stream to the Media Engine for decoding and playback.
    The best solution however is to convince the content provider to switch to a real streaming protocol or offer a separate URL that supports a true streaming protocol. To future proof any new streaming implementation I always recommend MPEG DASH.
    I hope this helps,
    James

  • Why will Safari not play MP3s embedded in my iWeb pages when Firefox can?

    One would have thought that if iWeb was going to get picky over the scenarios in which it would behave correctly, it would favour Apple-centric enviroments. But this doesn't appear to be the case when building an iWeb site with embedded MP3 files.
    The published site behaves perfectly when viewed in Firefox and yes, even IE's latest incarnation. Files may take a while to download but they play when the download has finished. Safari is a different story. The MP3 files embedded in some pages simply will not play when viewed with Safari.
    This page in particular has never worked in Safari -
    http://www.whisperycat.co.uk/version_5/sounds/Entries/2011/3/23_Promenade.html
    A small blue questionmark appears instead of the 'Play' button.
    Any workarounds or is it just the case that Safari and iWeb are incompatible on this fundamental point???

    Well it looks as though I answered my own question. A Google search revelas that Safari has had over 2 years' history of reported problems with the mp3 format -
    http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=safari+wont+play+mp3&ie=UT F-8&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&ei=nkulT9_wA82g8gOPj8ntBA
    - and the solution is... STOP USING MP3 FILES
    Yes, mp3 format is out, mp4 format is in. SO I'll need to upload MP4 versions of my audio files and then retry.

  • N91 8GB CAN NOT PLAY MP3 FORMAT?!!!

  • Muse site will not play mp3 files on iOS devices

    I'm testing my new/first site using Muse CC 2014 and finding that audio files (MP3) will not play on iOS 7.x devices.I am using the MP3 Player plug-in from Musethemes.com. They have yet to respond to my support request 3 days ago so I am hoping someone here might have encountered the same issue. What alternatives would you suggest?

    Never mind everyone. Musethemes got back to me. The issue is the link for each MP3 file points to assets/filename.mp3 in the desktop version but since the tablet and phone versions have their own sub-directories the link needs to properly point to the parent directory where the assets folder is located i.e. ../assets/filename.mp3. On to the next adventure.

    Hi,
    This is my code...
    package sampleplayer;
    import javafx.scene.media.Media;
    import javafx.scene.media.MediaPlayer;
    var song=Media{source:"G:/Shono amra ki shobai.MP3"}
    var player=MediaPlayer{media:song}
    player.play()and its giving the following error
    FX Media Object caught Exception java.net.URISyntaxException: Illegal character in opaque part at index 2: G:/Shono amra ki shobai.MP3
    but I have tried creating a video player to play a .flv file.It works fine.
    Please help...

    Several messages here tell there is an issue with media player and paths with spaces...
    Note also that source is an URI, must look like: "file:///G:/Shono amra ki shobai.MP3" (or use {__DIR__}).

  • SWFObject not playing MP3 in IE10 and lower with new Adobe Flash upgrade

    I am using SWFObject 1.5 with flash player 14.0.0.145 and SW flv player 3.x.x. My code used to work fine in all version of IE, FF and chrome earlier(Until i think we had flash 14.0.0.125), but after the recent upgrade its not working in IE 10 and lower while works fine in IE 11, FF and chrome.
    Any suggestion? Also any link to newer version of SW flv player would be helpful too.
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html><head>
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8">
    <script type="text/javascript" src='js/swfobject.js'></script>
    </head><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    <div id="audio_clip">You need to upgrade your Flash Player to at least version 8 to view this video content.<a id="1" href="http://www.adobe.com/flashplayer/">Download the latest version of Flash Player</a></div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    // <![CDATA[
    var so = new SWFObject("js/flvplayer_updated.swf","flvplayer","592","342","8","#000000");
    so.addVariable("file", "<s:property value="audioUrl"/>");
    so.addVariable("autostart", "true");
    so.addVariable("screencolor", "#FFFFFF");
    so.write("audio_clip");
    // ]]>
    </script>
    </body></html>

    I'm not sure if your having the same problem I did, but my
    flash file was doing the same thing. It would play in one but not
    the other. It ended up being the fact that I had changed the file
    name but hadn't changed the name in the html.
    I can't remember which is which, but I think the embed tag is
    for IE and the object tag is for everything else. The file source
    must be exactly the same within both tags for fire fox and IE to
    play the file.
    I hope this helps and good luck.

  • [SOLVED] Amarok not starting up after the latest update

    Hi there,
    as the title says, my Amarok isn't starting anymore since I did the latest update (from today to 2.4.1-3).
    I see my bouncing logo animation on the cursor for a few seconds and after that it just disappears and nothing happens.
    Did this happen to anyone else? Any hints what I can do now to fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Quicktime does not play MP3 in IE8 Embedded

    Here's my code stripped down to the bare essentials.
    <!doctype html   >
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    <title>Simple Javascript Slideshow</title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="CSSA001.css" />
    </head>
    <body>
    <!--
    <object data="03 In Dreams.mp3"  height="100" width="200">
    <param name="src" value="03 In Dreams.mp3"/>
    <param name="autoplay" value="false"/>
    <param name="autoStart" value="0"/>
    Cannot do it
    </object></div>
    -->
    <script type="text/javascript">
    targetBody  = document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0];
    var song = document.createElement("object");
    song.setAttribute('data', "03 In Dreams.mp3");
    song.setAttribute('src', "03 In Dreams.mp3");
    song.setAttribute('height', "60");
    song.setAttribute('width', "200");
    song.setAttribute('autostart', "0");
    song.setAttribute('autoplay', "false");
    song.setAttribute('controls', "ControlPanel");
    targetBody.appendChild(song);
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    I'm running windows xp/sp3 and IE8. When I execute the inline <object> code (commented out above), Quicktime will load and play the MP3. However, when I execute the JS function, Quicktime just presents the Q with the question mark. Either version of the code executes in Chrome, Firefox and IE9. Is there something I need to do in the script, or maybe IE8 + Quicktime just doesn't do MP3's in this way. Thanks for any help.
