[SOLVED] ASUS F3JC - no sound in headphones

Hi,
I successfully solved problem with no sound at all (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=31960), but still have no sound in my headphones. When I plug them in, laptop speakers get muted, but headphones play no sound. I'm using KMix to control volume.

Hi,
what you mean by that "sense" word? Or what it means... Theres that yellow led above... It's turned on, I double checked all of that. Plugging headphones in just mutes speakers. Whats going on? I need to use skype and without headphones its bit annoying... Could it be something with snd_hda_intel module's model option?
If only certain aspects of your hardware work, e.g. the headphones but not line out, then you can try passing the model argument:
modprobe snd_hda_intel model=asus
I've got exactly the opposite .

Sounds to me like a hardware issue or maybe something is stuck in the headphone jack. When you plug in headphones, the jack in the iPad is switched to play only through the headphones and not the iPad's speakers. Sounds like either the jack is faulty or there is something stuck in the headphone jack. Get a flashlight & look inside the jack for anything that looks like it doesn't belong in there.
Regardless, I'd take it in to an Apple Store if you have one nearby to have it checked.
EDIT: "Ocean20" had an excellent suggestion above. While doing that, you may also want to rotate/twist the plug in the jack back & forth a few times as well. Dirty contacts can often times be cleared by doing this.

  • Xonar DG sound card headphone amplifier not working

Hi, I have an Asus Xonar DG sound card. The sound is working fine, however it is very quiet. It seems that the headphone amplifier is not working - or, I cannot find a way to set the impedance.
I have alsa running and tried messing with alsamixer settings. Also, I have PulseAudio installed, but pavucontrol offers limited options.
How can I change the impedance level? Or how do I get the headphone amplifier to work? It seems to be supported as of kernel 3.14 - http://sourceforge.net/p/alsa/mailman/message/32973122/
    Thank you!

Remove the old drivers (carefully) in Safe Mode and install the new drivers in Normal Mode.

  • For 1/11/11 expert day: can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers

HP Pavilion dv6135nr Notebook internal speakers have stopped working.  I can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers.  A search on HP customer care for my notebook yielded the download recommendation below, even though I had not stated my problem.  However, executing this download did NOT resolve the problem.  Please advise regarding resolution to inoperable speakers.  I do not know if all of my sound and audio settings are correct, but the mute is not on and the volume controls are properly set.  The default device is Conexant High Definition Audio output, per the sound and audio devices properties hardware  tab the device status states "this device is working properly."  Is it possible that a Skype or Foxfire update is in conflict with this device?  If so, how do I resolve this situation?
    Thank you.

Re: Fixes issue where the notebook speakers do not work after headphones or earphones are used for a while and then unplugged.
HOW DO YOU FIX THIS?? I cannot find the correct Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio that works with my computer...
    My computer:
    VISTA
    HP Compaq 2230s Notebook PC
Everytime I use my headphones for more than an hour or two, the **bleep** audio will not play on my notebook's speakers, just through the headphones. Usually restarting a few times resolves the problem, but not this time. If I knew that HP computers sucked this much I would never have spent so much money on this one!!!
Can you please tell me how to fix this problem once and for all? Thanks!!

laptop speraker are working fine .. but when I connect headphone to audio port .. sounds comes out to be very low and unclear.
I tried headphone with my desktop and mobile but it was working fine.
I called HP custmor support.. they gave a link of sound driver.. i updated sound driver but no solution comes out..

    Hello Deepak-Kumar,
You’re having a problem with the sound not be very loud.
Go to device manager and uninstall the IDT audio.
    Do not restart the computer.
Now install the updated sound driver.
Since it has not been to long since the problem started, you can run a system restore.
This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.
Here is a link on how to do a restore.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • No sound using internal speakers, but I have sound using headphones

I just finished installing archlinux with GNOME3 on a laptop, everything were perfect until I detected a problem: I only have sound using headphones, the internal speakers of the computer doesn't work. I followed the official wiki step by step and I never had this problem using other linux distributions.
    Any idea?

I'm having the very same issue. Each time I boot computer I have to unmute the speaker in order to have sound. Only the headphones are unmuted by default. From what I understand alsa-store and alsa-restore are supposed to run automatically on boot and shutdown only (normally they appear in inactive/dead state).
I have tried to run 'alsactl store', but this won't help.
The whole thing start happening only recently (late December). I have arch on this laptop for over 3 years and it was fine as far as I remember.
    EDIT:
I have just found that this issue is due to pulseaudio 2.1 -> 3.0 upgrade. After downgrading to 2.1 it works as expected.
    EDIT2:
Maybe you will find that useful, a temporary "fix". I have added to startup applications (in my case in gnome-session-properties):
    amixer -c 0 sset Speaker Playback 95%
which just simply sets the speaker volume to 95% each time I log in.

  • My iPhone wont play sound without headphones in

My iPhone wont play any sound without headphones in the volume
Buttons work but won't change sound my speaker won't play any sound at all

i had the same problem and used a very small screwdriver, inserted carefully into the heaphone socket, to very gently push the microswitch at the bottom of the socket. i did this a couple of times and suddenly the sound works again.
i think the button down there can get stuck and cause this problem, or maybe it was just a fluke... try it anyway- it worked for me!

  • X-FI 3D positional sound through headphones with CMSS

    <FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>UPDATE: To Creative employees
<FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>Please respond to this thread and try to sort this issue. Is bad sound from "headphones"+CMSS On due to a limitation of the hardware (is the sound quality degradation compared to "2/2. speakers"+CMSS On due to a much more complex algorithm of 3D positional sound mixing)?
<FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>Is there a way to adjust the speaker angles in Calibration tab of THX Console to more than 60 degrees (I would definitely consider a hexediting hack as a viable solution, whatever works)?
I have this problem with X-FI Fatalty. Maybe someone knows what to do about it... I'm trying to get 3D positional sound to work through regular stereo headphones using CMSS 3D. The way I have it set up is as follows:the win xp Control Panel is set to 5., X-FI audio console is set to "headphones" or "2/2. speakers", and CMSS 3D is enabled at default settings. It does work - the 5. sounds from, say, a game is downmixed to stereo with 3D positional effects mixed in (sounds coming from behind are of a different tone, and actually sound like they come from behind). There are problems however. With "headphones" setting, the sound quality is atrocious - the sound is muddy and boomy. The 3D positional audio effects work great - I can pinpoint every direction from which the sound is coming fairly accurately. Note that without CMSS 3D, the "headphone" setting sounds great. With "2/2. speakers" setting, the sound quality is normal (sounds great on my HD555 headphones), but the 3D positional audio effects are not good - audio control panel in X-FI software allows only a maximum of 20 degrees setting for the angle between the speakers, whereas 80 degrees would be required to simulate 3D effects through headphones (X-FI software has two settings for that actually, (+/-)60 degrees maximum for each speaker, with the reference angle of zero degrees being directly in front of the listener - directly in between the two speakers). So my questions is this. Has anyone figured out how to either improve the quality of the sound with "headphones" setting, or increase the angles of the speakers to (+/-)90 degrees (80 total) with "2/2. speakers" setting?<!-- / message --><!-- sig --><SPAN>

The only possibility that I can think of is that 2/2. mode is NOT as simple as headphone mode with crosstalk cancelation. Perhaps the HRTF only kicks in for sound sources outside of the arc directly in front of the listener. If that were the case, you wouldn't percei've any distortion for sound sources in front of you.
Also, you are wrong regarding DirectSound3D. Keep in mind that Direct3D and DirectSound3D are not the same. The whole point of OpenAL and DirectSound3D is that they present an API to the programmer through which there is NO specification of the number of speakers. When using OpenAL or DirectSound3D, the only thing a programmer can do is specify the location of a mono sound source in 3D space relati've to the listener. The speaker settings for your DirectSound3D or OpenAL device will then determine how this sound is "rendered" by the soundcard. It is not under control of the game. For example, if you have 5. speakers and the 3D position is behind you, the SOUND CARD will make the decision to use the rear speakers. If you use headphones, the SOUND CARD will decide to apply an HRTF to create the illusion of a rear sound source. The point is that the game does not have control over how many speakers you will get sound from.
However, to further complicate the situation, there are SOME games (HL2 is an example) where DirectSound3D is used, BUT the sound output of the game itself IS a function of the Windows speaker settings. This is not how programmers are SUPPOSED to use DirectSound3D. I've written about this countless times. There is a good post on [H]ard|Forum about this. Do an "advanced" search with my username (thomase) looking for the terms "hl2" and "cmss".

  • No Sound From Headphone Jack, Only Internal Speakers working in Macbook Pro A1278

Hello, the internal speakers of Macbook Pro A1278 OSX 10.7.5 are working perfectly, but no sound from headphones or external speakers when plugged in. Headphones/speakers recognized when plugged in, shown by System Preferences/Sound, and since the sound stops from internal speakers when headphones/speakers are plugged in. No red light seen coming from headphone jack, as I read in other posts. The problem began after a cable was connected between computer and stereo system. Maybe overloaded the sound card and burned out a connection? Wondering if you think that the sound card needs to be replaced or is there another solution possible? Thank you.

    Hello JohnBoarkman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you hear no sound from your accessory when you connect to your headphone jack. My first troubleshooting suggestion for this situation would be resetting the NVRAM on your Mac. Please use the instructions in the attached article to complete this process and let me know if the issue continues.

  • Skype makes speakers make sound while headphones on

hello! this is my first post on the forums
so i installed skype today on my brand new Hp DV7 pavillion-6197CA, (Windows 7 Home Premium) and when i get a call, or any message notification from it for that  matter, all sounds go through the laptop's speakers, even though im using my headphones 24/7, i fiddled with all the skype audio settings as much as i could but nothing the only solution i found was the disable the second speaker in my laptop so that skype couldonly use the main one, is there any other way to fix this? its been ruining all my skype conversations and its very annoying to have my laptop randomly make all sounds from my computer go to the speakers when skype has a notification for me >.<
i havent changed any audio setting in windows at all, i tried doing everything from skype, i even changed the default communications speaker in windows to the main laptop speaker but it skype still founda way to use the other, even though skype was also forced to use the default speaker >.< updating drivers through the hp support assistant did nothing either sadly.

i had these same issues with my Dell Studio XPS 1645 in 2009/2010. haha. pretty much the issue is that the IDT audio drivers are **bleep**ing insane buggy. I don't think there is a way to fix it. the problem comes down to probably disabling the "Communication" Device Output device, or Setting the Default Communication Device to the primary headphone/speaker device. Many HPs have two output devices, one for the headphones/speakers, and a second for the headset.
What is going on in Windows I think, is if nothing is connected via the headset port on your computer, the sound will get channeled through to the speakers. the main Windows sound that you are listening to will continue to channel through to the headphones because that is where the main sound was set up to get channeled through to. If it so so happens that you have a headset and headphones connected, i bet when SKype calls through, it will send it to the headset instead of your speakers.
Here's is how to fix it: try setting Skype's default output device to the headphone/speaker out, instead of the communication device. if this doesn't work. then. you just have to set the Default Communication device to be the speakers/headphones, and/or disable the headset output device. the whole thing is buggy, especially the code that deals with routing sound to headphones or internal speakers. they try to handle it all automatically, without providing any controls to manage it manually. I wish they redesigned the driver so that speakers and headphones and headset were all separate devices, so that you could choose where to send it yourself. like a button that says, "headphones" or "speakers" for each sound device. even if headphones were plugged in, you could still turn them off, or route sound to speakers manually. the automation of this feature is bugged..
