[SOLVED] ATI Catalyst / Xorg issue with Multihead (3monitor)

i'm having problems for a long time, with different versions of the ATI Catalyst driver and Xorg,
right now i'm using this versions,
catalyst-hook 11.2-2
catalyst-utils 11.2-1
lib32-catalyst-utils 11.2-1
xorg-server 1.9.4.901-1
xorg-server-common 1.9.4.901-1
xorg-server-utils 7.6-2
the catalyst package are from the catalyst server recommended by the Arch Wiki
http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/x86_64
the problem that i have is that when i try to pass from one monitor to another, when
i pass to the 3rd one the X crashes, this happen always with the same monitor no matter what.
here is the backtrace from the startx logs,

i wanted to know if there is any official forum / bug tracker  of amd/ati where report this bug,
or if one of you had this kind of problem before and can give me a hand to resolve this, i would be grateful.
here is the ati report about the system info,

thanks in advance.

solved!
since the cursor used through the proprietary catalyst driver have issues, use instead the SW cursor,
Section "Device"
Option "SWCursor" "true"
EndSection

  • [SOLVED] ATI Catalyst Driver Issues

I'm sure issues with these drivers get posted often, but I'm honestly not entirely sure how to search for this.  I installed the base system with no issues, but when it came to adding a DE, I had some issues.  I tried several times to install the catalyst drivers for my radeon hd 6800.  I installed from the official repository using:
    #pacman -S catalyst-dkms catalyst-utils
I had no luck starting X server after that so I tried installing from Vi0l0's unnoficial repository.  This caused X Server to seg fault every time I attempted to start it.
I'm a little confused on how I am even using gnome at this point considering I have not successfully installed a graphics driver.
I blacklisted radeon and uninstalled catalyst and somehow was able to start X Server.  I'm obviously using a lame driver considering every time I move a console window around it moves at around 2 FPS.
How can I successfully install the proprietary fglrx/catalyst drivers?

  • [SOLVED] Fresh Install Error - Issue with PGP Key 4096R/753E0F1F

    Hello Guys,
This is my first topic. I have done all the research in this forum and in Google for the issue, with no luck in finding a solution. I have done several Arch linux installs before on Virtual Machines and PC's all of them working properly, except for this one that I can not get to pass the install phase.
    Description of Hardware:
HP Laptop Pavilion Entertainment PC dv2-1030us
    Athlon AMD Processor
    4 GB RAM
    300GB HD
    ATI Video Card
Broadcom wireless Card (Default drivers Not Working)
    Wired Network Card (Working)
I'm trying to install Arch from USB drive created from another arch machine via:
    sudo dd if=/name_of_file.iso of=/dev/sdX
    Using Arch Version:
    Current Release: 2014.08.01
    Included Kernel: 3.15.7
    ISO Size: 559.0 MB
The above bootleable USB drive have been used to install Arch in another machine currently running it.
After creating the partitions on the drive, namely:
    BOOT
    SWAP
    ROOT
    HOME
And formatting them accordingly to the install guide, and having the system ready to download all the base and base-devel packages via:
    pacstrap -i /mnt base base-devel
Right after it finishes downloading I get the following error:
    downloading required keys in keyring...
    :: Import PGP key 4096R/753E0F1F, "Anatol Pomozov <[email protected]>", created: 2014-02-04? [Y/n] y

error: required key missing from keyring
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occurred, no packages were installed.
==> ERROR: Failed to install packages to new root
I first ignored the error and then tried to proceed with the installation process and executed the following sequences of commands:
    genfstab -U -p /mnt >> /mnt/etc/fstab
and then tried to chroot with:
    arch-chroot /mnt
Then i got the following error:
mount: mount point /mnt/etc/resolv.conf does not exist
chroot: failed to run command "/bin/sh": No such file or directory
Here is list of the Topics i Found in this forum that throw some light into the issue, some of the solutions I have tried with no luck at all:

    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=181057

I hope you can help find a direction where to start fixing this issue, since i feel pretty lost right now. By the way I'm a Newbie in the Arch Linux world, so there are a lot of thing that are not that obvious to me...
    Thank you in advance.

I've had the same issue with an (outdated) Arch Linux iso. As far as I am aware, it is caused by pacman's keys becoming out of date.
I've managed to get around this before, but the exact method eludes me.
You could try just updating the archlinux-keyring package, by refreshing pacman (pacman -Sy), then reinstalling only that package (try pacman -S archlinux-keyring).
Then you should be able to continue as normal.
Note that this only affects the CD filesystem in RAM - it will not persists across reboots using the CD.
The reason why this might work is that the package archlinux-keyring might not be signed by the key you were having issues with. If it still fails, you could temporarily set the SigLevel for the core repo to 'Never', however this does disable package signing, at least until you reset the SigLevel.
Unfortunately, I could not replicate the problem in a Qemu VM, so I'm not sure how good my method is. Hopefully, it fixes the problem.
Here are some links that might help shed some light:

    Hopefully this is helpful!

  • [SOLVED] Steam windows flashing, issues with overlay

I made a short video to demonstrate the problem here.
I am using the catalyst drivers (from Vi0L0's AUR), xorg 1.13
A similar issue occurs with smplayer and the video showing through other windows.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!
    **EDIT**
So I re-read the catalyst install guide and it looks like xorg 1.14 is now supported.  Deleted the reference to the 1.13 repository, installed, and it seems to be working.  RTFM works!

Once you install xcompmgr you'll need to do two things:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-nvidia-composite-hotfix.conf
    Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
    EndSection
    ~/.xinitrc
    ...snip...
    # Workaround For Hardware Accelerated Video Glitching On NVidia
hsetroot -solid "#000000" # Stops The Gray Background
    xcompmgr -n &
    # Start My Window Manager Of Choice
    exec my_window_manager
    Notes:
xcompmgr's -a flag is not entirely reliable and prone to kill rendering on a direct draw movement event (Eg the Steam info slide box or dragging an image in a browser.)
The hsetroot utility and line is only needed if you get a gray background/boarder when you start xcompmgr.
nvidia-settings by default disables composite features in it's XOrg config save. If you've used nvidia-settings and saved it's output (Eg. 20-nvidia.conf) you either need to change the extensions section to re-enable this, or just add this section in it's own high numbered config to override it. The latter is documented so that this fix is a module, reminding of its removal when/if this problem is fixed upstream.
Edit: I had it crash again while I was using no flags. I think I've now fixed it with the -n to enable transparency. Just know your millage may vary.
I'd go ahead and mark as solved if it works for you too Speedy Consoles.
If you're using lxdm, you should append this to
    ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
    @hsetroot -solid "#000000"
    @xcompmgr -n

  • [SOLVED] ATI catalyst problems

I just did a pacman -Syu and ran into problems with my ATI radeon hd 7870 card.
After reboot, I noticed that my GPU fan speed was too loud because this command does not work anymore:
    aticonfig --pplib-cmd "set fanspeed 0 25"
    PPLIB command execution has failed!
    ati_pplib_cmd: execute "set" failed!
    Other commands fail too:
    aticonfig --od-gettemperature
ERROR - Get temperature failed for the Default Adapter - AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
Also, when I move windows around in Gnome (fallback mode), or when I scroll in gedit, the movement is not smooth, you can see how they redraw at their new position slowly.
I am not experienced with catalyst troubleshooting. Is there any guidance on how to find out what's wrong?

  • ATI driver installation issue with Windows Vista on Boot Camp (new iMac)

    I've just purchased a new 20" iMac with Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz.
Then I installed Windows Vista Ultimate on a Boot Camp partition.
Vista installation was eventless and worked nicely.
    Now the problem has begun...
I downloaded the latest ATI graphic card driver (Catalyst 7.7 for Vista 32) from the ATI website. The Catalyst software did not recognize the graphic card and installed nothing. I still have generic Microsoft standard VGA video adapter, which keeps me from playing any recent 3D games...
Someone please help me on this so that I can start playing Oblivion...
    Message was edited by: Giraku

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
I still have to find a verification for this, but:
Aplle has up to now always used the Mobility versions of the ATI and NVIDIA graphics chips in the iMacs and MacBooks, MacBooks Pro.
I assume that the in the new imacs, they are also using the Mobility version of the Radeon 2400/2600.
The ATI drivers you can download from the ATI/AMD website are only suitable for the Desktop Radeons, NOT for the Mobility Radeons.
ATI/AMD does not provide drivers for the Mobility Radeons, but are refering to the Manufacturer of the Computer for Drivers, which is Apple.
Sorry to say, but it seems you have to wait for a new BootCamp version which you include Driver support of the new iMacs.
    Sorry
    Stefan

  • [ATI Catalyst] PowerXpress error with aticonfig

I recently just re-installed Arch and have been trying to get catalyst-hook installed from the [catalyst] repo.  When the gdm window comes up after a reboot, I can login, but I immediately get an "Oh no!" error.  So, I figured I need to run aticonfig to generate a working xorg.conf for this setup.  I switched over to tty1 and ran:
    sudo aticonfig --initial --heads=2 --adapter=0
(I am trying to get a setup with three monitors on two cards.)
    That gives me this error:
    Found fglrx primary device section
    Found fglrx secondary device section
PowerXpress error: Cannot stat '/usr/lib64/fglrx': No such file or directory
Failed to initialize libglx for discrete GPU
PowerXpress error: Cannot stat '/usr/lib64/fglrx': No such file or directory
Failed to initialize libglx for discrete GPU
    Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Saving back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.conf-0
Well I checked and I didn't even have a lib64 directory, so I made one and symlinked fglrx in there.
    Now I get:
    Found fglrx primary device section
    Found fglrx secondary device section
PowerXpress error: '/usr/lib64/fglrx' must not be writable by group or others
Failed to initialize libglx for discrete GPU
PowerXpress error: '/usr/lib64/fglrx' must not be writable by group or others
Failed to initialize libglx for discrete GPU
    Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Saving back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.conf-0
I used sudo chmod 600 fglrx, but that didn't help.  What should I do?
EDIT: I just went ahead and symlinked lib64 to lib.  Now it can't find /usr/lib/fglrx/swithclibGL.  Where can I find that?

Somehow, I managed to reboot and get amdccle to create the correct display setup.  But now Gnome won't work.  I mean, the display manager is there and all, but I don't get the bar or any of that.
Plus, I still get that ugly cursor corruption when it moves to the screen on the other card.
EDIT: Nevermind, it does that to whatever screen it thinks is the rightmost one.
EDIT 2: Just kidding, now that occurs on the left one.  I am confused.
    EDIT  3: New Developments!
Alright, I enabled Xinerama in the xorg.conf file and that almost works.  I say almost because whenever I move my cursor from the middle screen to the right screnn (accross cards), it crashes X.  Still though, it is somewhere.
Some form of Gnome seems to be working, although it looks a lot more like Gnome 2 than the version I was using before installing these drivers.  And the title bar is huge.  Like this:
EDIT 4: This is actually GNOME3's fallback mode since it doesn't like fglrx.  It even reverted to using VESA drivers.
I'll keep working on it.  Any ideas?

  • [SOLVED][ati catalyst]amdcccle won't start anymore

    Hey all,
I spent all the day working on my MSI GX60 equiped with
    [jledun@io0 ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Richland [Radeon HD 8650G]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Neptune [Radeon HD 8970M] (rev ff)
Everything was running fine until today.
To show something to my son, I tried to run a VirtualBox machine but it couldn't because :
'Your machine tries to run 3D acceleration but 3D is not defined on your host' or something like that.
So I tried to run 'sudo amdcccle' or 'kdesu amdcccle', no way, it doesn't start.
I don't have any error displaying in my cli.
I just can kill it after a few minutes.
I've read somewhere on an ubuntu forum that it was necessary to install qt, so I did but it changed nothing.
I really need my virtual machines, that's windows 7 and XP clients, if I deactivate 3D acceleration in configuration, I guess windows won't like it...
    Help !

I followed wiki for uninstall catalyst, reboot, then clean install of catalyst, reboot, it's the same.
But I've found a way to make it work : disable lxdm and reboot.
Then I remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb at each boot, before running startx. Then I'm able to open amdcccle, check configuration, fglrxinfo gives :
    [jledun@io0 ~]$ fglrxinfo
    display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 8650G
OpenGL version string: 4.3.12614 Compatibility Profile Context 13.25.18
If I reboot again, the problem appears again, then I kill X, remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb again and it works.
I'm going to see if the problem is the same with razor-qt.

  • Xorg issues with eeePC 1000HE

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Arch Linux and everything is going well until the part where I have to test Xorg. The first test (X -config <path>) always results in the same thing, black screen, nothing else. But the note in the beginner's guide says that it might be normal, so I proceed to the seconds test.
When logged in as root, startx works (a few term windows and a small analog clock), yet xinit just displays a small white term in the corner of the screen but keyboard and mouse don't work. When logged in as a non-root user (like it says I should be), both startx and xinit result in the same thing as xinit on root.
I've tried about 5 different xorg.conf configurations, and reinstalled Xorg twice.
    System:
EeePC 1000HE with latest Arch Netinstall i686
    Requested files:
    ~/.xinitrc > http://dpaste.com/85721
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf > http://dpaste.com/85722
    /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old > http://dpaste.com/85723
If you need any more information please do ask me, I'm not very experienced with UNIX but I'm not an absolute newbie either.
    Thanks very much for helping

  • [Solved] Several installs and issues with DHCP issue every time.

    Edited: more concise information!
    Hi folks,
I was using Arch fine for months but decided to reinstall it fresh at the new year, but since then I have been plagued by connection issues. I install Arch and follow many of the tips found in these Wikis to set it up how I like then install preload and readahead.
    Post-Installation Tips
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pos … ation_Tips
    - LCD filtered fonts
    - Disable IPv6 (I use Chorus/NTL and they have a tip for improving Firefox that disables IPv6, so I think that this is not to blame)

    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop
    - Battery state monitoring utilities (acpi)
    - Laptop-mode-toold
    - Powernowd
    Maximising Performance
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Max … erformance
    - Swapiness
    - Mount /tmp to RAM
My internet connection works fine, even when rebooting, but later I turn on my computer and WICD or networkmanager fails on "obtaining IP address. I really think that there is something in one of these tips that is causing this problem, but I am at a loss as to what. Like I say, I was using it happily for many months before these current issues. The only thing I did differently was systematically set up my computer with all the tips detailed above, where as before, I collected these tips over a period of time and did not do them all straight after installation. I have tried rolling back the changes and this has not fixed the issue.
I have had this issue over many reinstalls, using networkmanager or WICD and each time I was hoping that I was doing something wrong.  I have an Ubuntu and work Windows laptop that both work fine, so I don.t think it is anything to do with the connection itself.
I am not sure what information you would need so I thought I would post both of these files. If you would like anything else, give me a shout and i can post it.

    Hey Scott!
I don't know if it is helpful in any way but I have a similar problem with my desktop PC.
I have two ethernet controllers installed and somtimes I had a Ip address assigned and sometimes I didn't.
One which is connected to the router and a 2nd one I use sporadically to connect additional computers.
The dhcpcd would fail to load even if I followed steps suggested from other forum members.
My temporary fix was to run:
    # dhcpcd
    manually.
If this helps you might consider adding "dhcpcd" at the end of
    /etc/rc.d/network
I know it's not really a fix but it helps me to get a working connection whoch otherwise would fail - or work if lucky but i don't like lucky with network/internet ^^

  • Nvidea GeForce 7300 GT and ati hd 5870 issues with mac pro and dual monitors etc

    I have a mac pro 1,1 running 10.5.8
      Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro1,1
      Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          2
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per processor):          4 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.33 GHz
I installed an ati 5870 and fcp 7 wont run, it says no vram. so I reinstalled the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT. This card however doesnt support my 46" sony bravia client monitor via vdi to hdmi (with adapter) is there anyway to make it do that (patch, driver, tweek to card)? also what other card should I get that will support the 30" apple display and the sony.  I have another system luckily thats newer that I work on with clients, but I dont want to foresake the other mac pro yet. is the 5770 going to work? Please let me know what you think, I greatly appreciate it.  Also my system profile doesnt say I have pci express 2.0 on either my old or new mac pros.
why are there no patches for this card, updates, drivers? nada. let me know. thank you.

*Is it possible to run the factory NVIDIA 7300 GT side-by-side with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 to achieve a three monitor setup?*
Yes with OSX. There may be problems with Boot Camp.

  • How do I solve my FONT conflict issue with the system Helvetica Neue

Everytime I start up in Leopard I get the error message "There is a conflict with the "HelveticaNeue" font file". How do I resolve this issue? I require the Postscript versions of Helvetica Neue for my design programs. I use Linotype FontExplorer to manage the fonts. Is there a way to rename these postscript versions so they don't conflict?

Currently, the only way is to remove Apple's supplied versions of Helvetica. They have exactly the same internal names as the PostScript versions. Follow the instructions in section 4 of my article, Font Management in OS X, to see how to do that.

  • [SOLVED] Crackling/distortion sound issues with Skype

Recently pulseaudio was updated version 5.0 this finally fixed my KDE issues where KDE would switch inputs after every login. But now I have a crackling sound issue in Skype but only on my end off the connection. The one I'm talking to sounds fine but he hears me all the distorted and crackling. I tried the Skype Test Call system and there I sound fine no crackling issues or distortions. Anyone else have issues like that currently or know that could be?

I tried the one already that didn't do anything. I will try your first suggestion and see if it helps.

  • How to solve this Data Configuration issue with error message ORA: 01017

Bad public user name or password. ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
    How to solve this?

    I'm using JCreator jdk1.5.0_7.But i don't know how
to use command prompt. When i execute my program, the
    command prompt showed
    Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: StringManipulation
Press any key to continue...So you managed to compile your code since now you are running it. This error means that the class StringManipulation was not found. Usually an indicator that your classpath is incorrect.
What did you do to generate this error? That is, how did you execute your program?
[edit] if you did not compile your code then there is no class file StringManipulation.class and this error will appear.

  • With Flash Catalyst - sizing issue with artboard

i have created an artboard along with all my images etc. 900 x 300 all my images sit outside these boarders, when i check to see how my project is working part of the images to the right of the artboard come up in plain view.  I have checked my artboard size and moved my images further to the right and they keep coming up.
    Can anyone help me.
    Confused.

    Hi Bear,
Thanks for the email i have tried to do the whole clipping thing i can see how it would work in certain scenarios but when i did it, it took away all my interactions etc.
I did the toggle thing which did work for the images but not the writing.
My artboard is 900 wide so i moved my wrting all the way over to 1200 on the right to get it off the screen.  my main problem is now when i put into dreamweaver html and play looks fine, but when i upload to internet i have all that extra room on the right and a little on the bottom.
One thing that confuses me is that i have images on the left and they dont show up at all the artboard only extends to the right and a little on the bottom out of the artboard specified size.
