[SOLVED] Battery charge percentage reports as 0% in xmobar

I have an ASUS U36JC laptop running Arch. I'm using xmobar to display information about the battery charge.
The estimated remaining lifetime in hours reports correctly, but the charge percentage always reports at 0%.
The charge level is reported correctly by acpi:
$ acpi
Battery 0: Discharging, 69%, 03:24:48 remaining
Listing /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 gives:
$ ls /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0
alarm device energy_full_design manufacturer power present status technology uevent voltage_now
cycle_count energy_full energy_now model_name power_now serial_number subsystem type voltage_min_design
The contents of uevent are:
$ cat uevent
POWER_SUPPLY_NAME=BAT0
POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS=Discharging
POWER_SUPPLY_PRESENT=1
POWER_SUPPLY_TECHNOLOGY=Li-ion
POWER_SUPPLY_CYCLE_COUNT=0
POWER_SUPPLY_VOLTAGE_MIN_DESIGN=14880000

POWER_SUPPLY_ENERGY_NOW=54600000
POWER_SUPPLY_MODEL_NAME=U36--56
POWER_SUPPLY_MANUFACTURER=ASUSTek

And my xmobarrc is:

Try adding -c "energy_full" to the battery plugin args.
You can also add -f "/sys/class/power_supply/AC0/online" if you don't have proper AC status in xmobar.

    What you posted looks like the iTunes Library.xml file  I will let you read about how iTunes works but not only is the .xml not your main library it is just the listing of tracks in your library and where the music files should be located.  Your music is actually in media files (by the way, it is pointless to zip those as they are already compressed).  Anyway, read these and you will see that your true library file (iTunes Library.itl) is only a small, but still important, part of a complete library.

  • My iphone is currently using battery life much more quickly than inthe past, and it also has an icon tht is starying on the screen, to the left of the battery charge percentage, that looks like a lock with a circle around it

    i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.
    an icon is also appearing next to the charge percentage in the top right, and the icon is a circle around a lock
    can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?

    The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
    First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off.  check out   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there

  • Battery charge percentage diminishes when connected to mains?

    Hello,
    I am not sure if I am right or wrong but I think there might be something strange with my Macbook Air.
    (11", core i7, 250ssd, 4gb ram).
    Every time the laptop is connected to the mains, the battery percentage starts dropping.
    For example, last night the laptop was fully charged to 100%. After that, I shut down the system, I waited till it was shut down completely and after that I unplugged the cable as well (It was not in sleep mode).
    Now in the morning when I plugged back the cable to the mains, I turned it on, and voila, it is was on 99%.
    Am I doing something wrong? It is happening all the time, till the point that the battery drops up to 94% and starts charging again up to 100%.

    CranberryJuice wrote:
    But why would it need the power from the battery to start up? If it's connected to the power outlet?
    The % drops even when connected all the time to the power outlet.
    Thanks
    The power adapter can not supply the power required when the processor is under a heavy load.  It gets the difference from the battery.  That is why the the older versions of the MacBook Pro dropped to half speed if they were run with the battery removed.  An MBA battery is not removeable but the same underpowered power supply problem exists.  It is a notebook that is intended to be operated from the battery.  It is not a desktop replacement.
    The power supply was designed to charge the battery.  It would have to be larger (more expensive?) to charge the battery and also run the cpu at full load.

  • New Mac's battery charge percentage drop quick using AC adaptor 24/7, should I be worried?

    I use my mac with AC adaptor 24/7, but the battery capacity drop 4% in 3 days... should I be worried? Is it some kind of hardware problem?

    Hi,
    Well, it's only England, so no extreme temperatures, but I can see my breath in the morning when the heater hasn't been on! I didn't think it would be too cold, but seeing some other posts wondered if that could be a contributing factor, being the unusually cold weather here over the past two/three weeks.
    I'm just panicking in case my battery or charger is about to go, just when I really need them.
    I'll calibrate the battery -- which is something I wasn't aware of until reading this forum today.
    The problem is, I'm traveling to the Caribbean to the opposite temperature problems may arise -- to hot and humid. I think I'll buy an extra battery to be on the safe side.
    At least neither of you has said: 'oh dear, that sounds like a failing battery.' So I'm a little less panicked now. I'll keep an eye on it and post back if anything dire happens over the next few days.
    Thanks for taking the time to respond.
    Cheers,

  • HT1476 Battery Charge Fluctuating

    I noticed last night that my battery was at 1% even though my phone was on charge.
    I attached it to my pc and after about half an hour the phone had picked up charge again and was at 87%.
    It was fully charged when I left home this morning and then at work I've noticed it was on 57% so I've put it on charge.  Checked it about half hour later and it was still on 57%.
    I've done the whole turn off and on again and now it's gone from 57% to 97% in seconds and just now now gone to 100%.
    Is it just the icon, or am I on borrowed time with the battery charging?

    Hey there LizzyBee,
    It sounds like the battery indicator is inconsistently reporting the battery charged percentage. In researching troubleshooting for you I found this Featured Discussion that may help your situation out as well:
    My IPad doesn't charge 100%

    This solved my question by Philly_Phan  on Jun 21, 2012 4:43 PM
    It's probably the battery indicator, not the battery itself.  Run it down until it shuts down automatically.  Ignore any low battery alerts that appear.  Then, charge it overnight with the 10W charger.  That should clear things for you.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Downgrading isn't supported.
    You can poke around in the settings. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need, such as notifications.
    You can also look into background app refresh and background app updates. They can be running in the background and drain your battery.

    I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.
    After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:
    Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
    Battery intermittently charging
    Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.
    For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.
    When does it charge, when does it not?
    Are there any patterns to this?
    Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
    Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
    Does the cable show any signs of damage?
    Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
    When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
    Are there any battery error messages?

  • My iPod displays black & white battery charge icon and sad iPod face. help!

    I plugged my iPod into an older iMac; it froze and had to be restarted.
    I restarted it and started listening on shuffle.
    It would skip through all of my songs without me pressing any buttons.
    I restarted again and it worked fine.
    I came home and plugged it into my 10.3.9 iMac and the tracks started skiping and barely playing on iTunes.
    I tried to eject it, but it wouldn't...so I unplugged it.
    I then restarted it, but after the silver-on-black iMac icon came up, the sad iPod face showed.
    So I pluged it back into the computer. It spontaniously restarted when I tried all of the steps of restarting and reinstalling.
    Then it just displays a black& white old battery charge icon with a thunder bolt that flickers on the screen now and then.
    And continues to restart itself with first the apple icon turning into the sad ipod face and then into the battery charge icon.
    I really do not want to restore my iPod. I am hoping to keep my files but at this point, my future is bleak.
    This happened last night. They said it might just be my battery so I kept it plugged in for about 10 hours. Nothing.
    What can I do?
    Please, please help.

    Hello,
    If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
    If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
    Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
    Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
    Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
    Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
    If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
    You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
    Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
    iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
    The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
    iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
    iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
    You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
    Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
    I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
    If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
    Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
    Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
    In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
    You don’t want to pay any service charges
    You are prepared to buy a new one
    You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
    Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
    You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
    Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
    In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
    2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
    Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

    nareshjaswani, try this, while charging your Z10 with the OEM wall charger, leave it to charge an hour or so, and while still connected to the charger and the Z10 is powered on, remove the battery for a minute and replace to reboot. This will often reset the on-device battery meter on Z10 to correctly reflect the battery charge.

    I've recently updated my BB10 OS from 10.2.1.2141 to 10.2.1.3247 which is the latest official update for Vodafone in Italy. I don't what happend for my device that it's been shut down with 40% of battery with new update.
    I removed the battery and insert it wrong, it means I touched the + pole if the battery to the - pole of the device and vice versa. After that, my battery percentage never goes up, just going down until the 0%, even when I'm charging it. And I have to remove the battery for 5 minutes in order to device be able to recognize the real percentage.
    what hapend for my device? Is it battery issues and should I change it? or it is device problem because of my mistake to displacement of the positive and negative poles? anyone else has the same problem?
    Please HELP me!

    Vignesh_Manoharan, What is happening is that your on-device battery meter is off-sync with the actual battery charge.
    Connect to your OEM wall outlet battery charger and while still connected and powered on,
    remove the battery a minute to reboot. After reboot leave to fully charge to 100%.
    Thus will reset the false charge reading. You may need to do perform this procedure 2-3 times.

  • New x140e battery charge error

    Hello everyone,
    Bought a Thinkpad x140e a few days ago, new and sealed. Just powered it on today, and Windows is reporting a battery charge error and should be replaced. It's stuck at 7% since I plugged it in.
    What shall I do?
    I updated the Lenovo power manager and tried to run the battery meter calibrate thing, but no change!
    Booted into Linux just to check battery status, and it's the same problem.
    Solved!

    Hello,
    It sounds like you may have obtained a unit either with a defective battery, or defective charging circuitry.
    Given that you just received the system, I would suggest calling Lenovo support directly and opening a ticket with them to investigate the issue.  If it turns out to be the hardware, you can get it repaired, or perhaps return the unit for exchange to whatever store you purchased it from as DOA.

  • C3 Battery Charge Cycling

    Just recently my one month old C3 has been having charging issues.
    When plugged into the wall charger, the phone will report that the battery is full and that it can be unplugged to save energy. It shows a full charge on the battery indicator, but after being unplugged for a minute, the low battery indicator alarm sounds.
    I've been monitoring the phone at work this morning and found the following:
    When it is plugged into the wall, the phone will report that it is fully charged, but will beep that it is charging every 3 minutes. And then, it will only charge for 20 seconds.
    The battery charge indicator animation seems to be very fast as well.
    It's been doing this for the last 45 minutes.

    hello c3 users,
    i ve got a solution, lets c if it works... Ur mobiles r have no problem, so dont worry!!
    Just pull out the battery of ur mob, and tight all the jaws of the BATTERY from both sides through which battery holds the mobile plugs... But becarefull these r very sensitive!!!!!!
    Tight these jaws through needle coz these r very small,
    the problem u guys r telling happens when one of them becomes lose it causes the breakage of the circuit between the battery and mobile and when it happens the mobile sends the low battery signal, mob doesnt turnoff because not all of the circuts r broken, the problem might be in one of them,
    so try it and lemme know if it solves ur problem!!
