[Solved] binutils-multilib and binutils are in conflict
Just enabled [multilib] repository and upgraded my system except for anything that depends on binutils-multilib because pacman thinks that "binutils-multilib and binutils are in conflict." How does one go about resolving the conflict?

binutils-multilib should provide binutils as well, so this is the expected behaviour.

he probably doesn't know the news about the decision to mix KF5 applications and KDE4
if you want to use the KF5 version of these applications ( kate, baloo etc... ) simply answer "Yes" to all questions

How can I investigate what's the source of the problem? Is there a way to get pacman to tell me which package it is that is trying to pull in openntpd? (Or does anybody know right away how to resolve this issue?)
Oh, by the way: "pacman -Sii openntpd" says
Required By : networkmanager-dispatcher-openntpd
but I don't use networkmanager.
Last edited by halun (2012-11-23 07:54:51)Ha, how stupid of me...
I thought openntpd was being pulled in, but it was already installed (by me, apparently) although I've never used it. Removing it by hand before upgrading resolved the problem. Thanks! -
[SOLVED]Cannot upgrade pacman because gnupg and gnupg2 are in conflict
I have tried a system update with "pacman -Syu". Pacman says that pacman needs to be upgraded first. I let this happen. Then I get the conflict. Both paths (remove gnupg2 and not remove gnupg2) fail.
:: gnupg and gnupg2 are in conflict. Remove gnupg2? [y/N] y

:: gnupg and gnupg2 are in conflict. Remove gnupg2? [y/N] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
Has anybody an idea how to proceed. An atempt to upgrade gcc fails as well
pacman -S gcc

pacman

:: and upgrade these packages now? [Y/n] n
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: libtool: requires gcc=4.6.2
Since any incosistency between gcc and its related libraries are usual fatal, I prefer not to experiment.
Thanks in advance for any hint.

:: libbaloo4 and baloo are in conflict (baloo<=4.14.0-1)
So does anyone know how I can fix this problem so that I can update all the packages on my system?
I don't have any baloo packages installed right now. I ran "pacman -Q | grep baloo" and it showed nothing.
I looked into it a little bit:
I'm using KDE, and some of their packages depend on baloo-widgets (which must be a recent change), so that is probably the root cause of my problem.
baloo-widgets is at 4.14.0-1.
baloo is at version 4.14.0-1.
baloo4-widgets is at version 4.14.0-1, provides replaces and conflicts with baloo-widgets,
libbaloo4 is at version 4.14.0-3, and conflicts with baloo<=4.14.0-1
baloo4 is at version 4.14.0-3, conflicts with baloo<=4.14.0-1, and is supposed to provide and replace baloo.
The three baloo4 packages were updated less than 24 hours ago by Andrea Scarpino (2014-09-13 07:35 UTC). I'm not sure when they were created.
This thread from 11 hours ago seems to be related: baloo4 update and not more necessary.
I don't update my Arch system very often. It's possible that the last time I updated was before 2014-08-20, which was the last time the old baloo packages were updated.
I tried to install baloo4-widgets manually but got a weird error:
$ sudo pacman -S baloo4-widgets

Last edited by DavidEGrayson (2014-09-13 21:41:14)Removing a package from a repository doesn't seem like a very nice thing to do, but is that how things are done in the Arch world? Does it need to be removed so that all the packages listing a dependency on "baloo" will use "baloo4" instead? I would prefer if packages never got deleted so I could restore my system to any arbitrary point in the past.

"eclipse and xulrunner are in conflict"?
I was trying to install Eclipse from extra, but I ran into the following problem:
➜ ~ sudo pacman -S eclipse

I have a few programs installed that depend on xulrunner, so removing it doesn't work.
Is pacman's local database corrupted or is there really a conflict here? I can't figure out how to get pacman to tell me why xulrunner and Eclipse are in conflict.wonder wrote:

that's the most stupidest solution ever . the best solution is to report on the tracker and drop xulrunner from monodevelop dependency chain
The best solution, imho, would be to wait for the fix in "testing"... I've not reported in the tracker because someone else had already done and warned about the removal of xulrunner... without effect.
And, sorry, i'm not qualified to drop xulrunner from Monodevelop dependancy chain.
Anyway, i prefer using a old version of Eclipse AND Monodevelop than the brand new shiny version of Eclipse without Monodevelop.

[Solved] Latest glibc and binutils and skype
I have noticed that since the last update to glibc and binutils it is not possible to input non-english characters in skype, they will be converted to a question mark inside a black square.
Downgrading to the previous packages solves the problem, however it doesn't seem to be a good idea to ignore the upgrade of these packages for too long.
Any ideas on how to work around this?
I guess I should probably submit a bug report but it's a bit late here already and I'd like to read some comments on this first.
Edit:
Marking as solved.

Why do gcc-go and go are in conflict?
Hi.
I just found that gcc-go and go are now in conflict. I just removed go when upgrading, but was curious about the reason.
I'm new to Go and I really don't know the benefits of one compiler over the other, so I had this whim of having both installed togheter.
Thanks.Go user and active Go development list follower here. The thing is that gcc-go now has it's own version of the "go" command that should be a closely following fork of the one in the "go" package and is primarily there to make gcc-go work more easily on architectures where the standard go distribution is not available.
The "go" command in the standard distribution (the go package) has support for gcc-go too though so that gcc-go and go can work together. So I think the best solution would be to install the gcc-go binaries that conflict with "gcc-" prefixed or disable them during configure.
On x86 and x86_64 the go package is the more advanced Go implementation and should be preferred (gcc-go lacks escape analysis currently and has less advanced garbage collection especially once go 1.5 is released) -
Cannot update: bluez4 and bluez are in conflict
I've had this problem before and someone on freenode helped me, but I don't really recall how to fix this. It happens everytime I upgrade.
Here's the paste.
http://pastebin.com/irXLaQY3
A lot of these seem to have to do with desktop environment packages like gnome and mate. I have a bunch of them installed, because I wanted to try them, so I won't really mind if I need to remove them or anything. I'm just not really sure where to proceed. Thanks. Please search the forum. This topic has been discussed a couple times already.
If you're getting an error message, you may want to search for any [recent] threads that mention it.

Multilib conflicts with native 64bit packages (gcc-libs and binutils)
hi all :>
i tried to build arduino from the AUR on my 64bit system (32bit version runs nice on my netbook! thanks! ). However i can't build it because it depends on gcc-libs-multilib and binutils-multilib from the multilib repo, which are conflicting with gcc-libs and binutils.
is it safe to remove the 64bit equivalents of gcc-libs and binutils and replace them with gcc-libs-multilib and binutils-multilib?

[Solved] util-linux and eject in conflict
I have installed all updates smoothly for the past few weeks, but this morning I got this:
:: util-linux and eject are in conflict. Remove eject? [y/N]
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: util-linux and eject are in conflict
I accepted the default action, N. I had checked the News before installing. And, so far, I have been unable to find anything related in these forums.
How should I go about fixing this?
Tim

You're right, i have indeed a dependency problem because of this aur package, acml-gfortran, wich have in it's dependencies gcc-fortran instead of gcc-fortran-multilib
The thing i don't understand is how have i been able to install gcc-fortran with acml-gfortran, without trying to install gcc-libs and discovering the conflict at that time,
and also why the fact that there is a gcc-fortran and gcc-libs update without the corresponding update in the multilib version discover the conflict.
I've commented the aur package, so the maintainer will soon fix the problem, yet i don't understand fully why this conflict have appeared now. -

The post I linked to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1330764 says
You're doing an update and something is trying to install mesa-libgl which conflicts with the already installed nvidia-libgl.
Find out which package is it.
In your case it conflicts with catalyst-utils, not with nvidia-libgl.
You cant deny that they are really similiar, I didnt note, my bad.
How can I find that package?
I cannot remove catalyst-utils, as I need to use that..
Yes, I knew it conflicted with catalyst-utils that why I made a new thread. In that thread it got solved by waiting. For me, Im having this problem since some days, and now I got some time to post here and try to fix it.
thanks
