(Solved) Bridge ethernet connection with Samsung TV

Hello, on my laptop I connect to the internet through my built in wireless adapter. I am trying to give my samsung tv a local network connection. I do not care about sharing my wireless internet through the ethernet althought that would be a convenient plus. However, I run to able to use my wireless internet while keeping the ethernet bridge. I run ps3 media server currently using my wireless connection but wired is more stable and so I want use that. I unplugged the wireless adapter from the samsung tv to get rid of the conflict. I am using KDE and networkmanager (the actual tray applet designed for kde is in use). I prefer to set this up graphically using networkmanager if possible.
Output of lspci | grep -i net
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
According to windows my wireless is a AR5 and not an ar9. Not sure which to believe.
I setup the connection arch-laptop, restarting the computer and Wired Connection disappeared.
On my tv I have internet protocol setup as manual.
IP Address like networkmanager is 10.42.43.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 1.1.1.1
Setup IP setup to manual forced dns to that also
DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
My isp (cisco brand) modem ip address is 192.168.0.1 and my router is 192.168.1.1. I am not very educated on the dns gateway subnet thing -- note I am calling it a thing. If you can help me out that would be great. Also, I am not completely sure if what I want is called an ethernet bridge. I am pretty sure my dns ip is wrong. I set gateway 1.1.1.1 because the tv says 0.0.0.0 is invalid. I have read the wiki and some forum posts but they are commandline solutions and I prefer graphical.
Marking as solved since tv does not even support this type of setup.

The EU40EH5300K TV is a model from 2012, and is compatible with the STC-2000 and STC-3000 model cameras. These are a little hard to find as Samsung has discontinued production of them.
Unfortunately the STC-4000 and STC-5000 (2014 and 2015 cameras) are NOT compatible with this TV.

  • Ethernet connection with Keithley 2701: Error in Initialize

    Hi,
I am a beginner with Labview 2009 and am trying to interface my Keithley 2701 with an Ethernet connection. I can access the instruments internal web page and successfully use the interactive control panel so I don't think my computer is having a problem connecting to the instrument. When I run the Example VI's provided by Keithley/NI (obtained from the find instrument drivers) it works with a serial connection but when I connect with the Ethernet I get the Error: "Error -1073807343 occurred at VISA open in Keithley 27xx.lvlib: Initialize.vi". I have configured a TCPIP address through Keithley's configuration panel and the Keithley 2701 IP address shows up in the Example VI's as a port to communicate with yet fails when it tries to run the VI. If anyone has had any experience with this problem or may know how to solve it I would greatly appreciate the help.
    Thanks!

I have tried to list the device in MAX. However the following is given:
"VISA returned this static device when finding resources, and MAX was able to use VISA to parse the resource name.  MAX was not able to successfully open a VISA session to the device."
The following post says the MAX has an issue connecting to TCPIP ports
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/92D475E7246846E786256ED700556D98
I am currently trying to run the VI given in the page above but as of now I keep receiving the same error message.
    Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Share Ethernet Internet with Wifi AdHoc Network

After several hours of searching other similar threads, I cannot find anything which turns out to be useful for what I'm trying to do specifically.
I have a laptop with ethernet card and built-in wifi. With Arch Linux I have configured both before using both the ipconfig/iwconfig methods and using Wicd. I am currently connected to the internet using Wicd and Ethernet (only because Wicd is already installed and configured when I got this internet connection). It would violate the terms of my internet service here (in a dorm room through dorm sponsored internet) to connect a wireless router to the internet connection.
What I want to do then, is set up my laptop so that it accesses the internet through the ethernet connection, and shares it with my iPod Touch through an Adhoc configured on the wifi card. I believe this still may be a small violation of the terms of service with my provider, but I really just want to be able to update/download apps on my iPod.. not let the whole floor have internet for the low price of one room.
Thanks in advance for any help, let me know if I need to provide more specifics for what I'm trying to do.

you can use iwconfig to set up the ad hoc connection (i dont know enough about wicd to see if it'll work with it)
    iwconfig wlan0 up
    iwconfig wlan0 192.168.100.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
    iwconfig mode ad-hoc
    iwconfig wlan0 channel auto
    iwconfig wlan0 essid MYPC
you can then use your ipod to connect to this ad hoc network and assign the ipod an ip address 192.168.100.2, make sure to ping the ipod to see if its connected corrently or not.
you can then use iptables to NAT the connections, iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING  -s 192.168.100.0/24 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
make sure ip forwarding is enabled by using, echo  1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

  • No Ethernet Connection with Road Runner

    Hi Everybody,
I have a bizarre problem. I just moved into a new apartment that is connected via Time Warner's Road Runner. Currently, we only have an ethernet connection via the Time Warner Router.
My MacBook (Model2,1 with 2GHz Intel and 10.5.5) connects easily with the ethernet. Open Safari and go! no problem at all.
However, the MacBook of my wife (Model3,1 with 2GHz Intel and 10.5.5) does NOT connect via the ethernet cable. I tried everything from new starts to entering IPs that my other MacBook got. There is no connection to the internet.
Any ideas why this could happen?
    All the Best, Crobus

Are you using a router? If so what make and model? What cable modem do you have? Have you done the following:
Turn off everything including cable modem, router (if any), and the computers. Wait at least one minute. Then turn on the cable modem. Wait until the status lights show connection to the ISP. Then turn on the router. Wait until its status light shows connection with the cable modem. Last turn on the computers. Be sure you have Network preferences properly configured.
If the other computer still fails to get a connection then try deleting the following files from the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist (if it exists)
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    preferences.plist
Then restart the computer. You will have to re-configure the Network preferences.

  • Password for ethernet, connecting with AirPort Express?!

I live in a student-house, and normally connects with a cable to the wall (ethernet). I´ve got a password from the University where I study, and have to use this to connect with the ethernet.
My question; Can I place the ethernet-cable into the AirPort Extreme, and make it work on my mac, even though there´s a password? (can I type in this password somewhere during the installation?)
I´m no good at this, and I´m really really tired of having to use the cable on my mackbook....

Okey, than I wont try no more...
    Thank you so much!!

  • Ethernet connection with Ubuntu on Infinity and HH...

    Dear BT
We use a wireless connection in our flat using the Home Hub 3 supplied with the Infinity broadband.
I upgraded to Infinity a couple of months ago and I must admit that I wasn't really paying much attention to the internet connection as I only really surf the net.
However my wife was using the BBC Iplayer to watch something and the programme kept halting and having to reload, so she asked me to find out what was happening after "paying this money for fibre optic that doesn't seem to work"!
So I investigated and I played around (technical term) with settings on the Home Hub 3, changing the channel to channel 1 (from auto-detect) and the speed improved by 10 fold! From 2Mbps to 21 Mbps - got it sussed I thought.
(BTW even though the HH3 uses 802.11n standard, my older laptop only uses .11b/g technology so I can probably get even better speeds using the wireless but that is for another investigation and/or purchase of a 802.11n dongle)
Looking at other forums (fora?) I noted that it is recommended (by BT as well as others) that an ethernet connection will make the Infinity downloads even faster.
Hence, this is what I am now trying to do.
As recommended, I have attached the (BT-supplied-with-package) ethernet connection cable to the GiGE ethernet port on the back of the HH3 and plugged in the ethernet cable to the laptop.
I am running UBUNTU Linux 11.10 (the latest version) and the ethernet connection was immediately recognised.
However, when I attempted to browse the net, there was no internet connection - ie my laptop hasn't seem to have connected as every web page says that the internet connection cannot be found.
I have disabled the wireless connection on the laptop (via software options at the top right hand menu) but still nothing from the WWW via the cable option.
So the ethernet has been recognised but are there any 'special' settings that I need to do to enable access to the internet? (eg I see from the ethernet connection properties that it uses IPV6 and a whole raft of internet xx.xx.xx.xx addresses. Do these mean anything specific or do they need to be changed? What about DHCP? What about any login information - is this needed?)
All in all I have absolutely no complaints about BT (never have in all the years I have been with them), nor any of their products. I simply need some connection guidance here please to help me take full advantage of etherenet and Infinity on my Linux laptop.
    Many thanks

    Hello gsd4me,
You are not alone with this problem. A long thread here wih all the gorey details (and top notch screenshots):

  • Sharing ethernet connection with airport card from ( iMac 17" intel)

I have recently upgraded from a 800 15" iMac to a new 17" intel iMac - before the upgrade it would share the ethernet connection to the internet with sharing and broadcast the signal to my FW800 powerbook ( or any other mac in the house ( no problems)
Now with the new Imac set up I enable sharing ethernet connection to computers using airport ( same as before) I can see the computer ( sharing the connection) in the airport menu of my FW 800 PB - when I try and connect I get an error message ?
Looking for any tips or direction? I searched this forum ans apple support pages and did not find an answer... PB = OS 10.3.9 - Imac = OS 10.4.5

    Hey thanks for the welcome!
The error message said " there is an error in connecting to ..."
OK ( after just checking it again) go figure - I turned off sharing ethernet connection to computers using airport on the iMac - and turned it back on and voila! I am now connected using the PB - ??? Must have been a reset issue?
lets see if this is a solid connection...
    Thanks for the fast reply!

  • Time Capsule With Non-Bridging Ethernet connection?

    Hi all,
I wonder if it is possible to connect the Time Capsule to an existing Ethernet such that it doesn't do bridging between the three Gigabit ethernet ports and the WAN port, but simply acts as if it was a device plugged into one of the "switch" ports, thus being a member of the network with an independent built-in three port switch. However, it still should do bridging between ethernet and AirPort...
    Is this possible?
The reason why I'm asking this is that I experience difficulties in seeing Bonjour-enabled devices connected to the LAN ports of the time capsule, because bridging puts a border for broadcast and multicast packages, which are used by protocols like Bonjour (aka ZeroConf, mDNS...). I can access them if I know their IP addresses and the TCP ports the services are on I wisch to use, but certainly it would be nicer to just have them appear in the Finder...

I saw that, in fact, the broadcast / bonjour issues were most likely because of a firmware bug, because after I upraged to a new firmware version, everything worked fine, and the built-in switch showed the expected behavior...

  • [SOLVED] No wireless connection with linux-3.2.2-1

After upgrading to linux-3.2.2-1, my wireless connection stopped working. It "connects", but I can't get an IP address through dhcp. Assigning an IP manually doesn't do the trick, I can't even reach the router through ping.
Downgrading to 3.2.1-2 fixes the issue.
I suspect this may be a regression but I couldn't find any information or reports of other people having the same problem anywhere.
I should note that I can establish a working connection when running the new kernel by using an external USB wireless device, so this probably has to do with the modules/drivers of my network card (?).
This is the ouput of some commands when running the new kernel (wlan1 is the device mentioned avobe):

  • Having trouble bridging wired connection with Airport Express

I've had an Airport Express Base Station for a little while, really only using it to wirelessly print and stream my music.
I'm at my college now, and there's a campus wide wired network. I've been trying to bridge this network so I can wirelessly connect to the internet with my laptop, Nintendo DS and eventually Nintendo Wii. The problem is that I can only get the orange blinking light on the AEBS, I don't have the software that came with it (though I have the Airport Admin and Setup stuff under Utilities), and the computer doesn't seem to recognize the base station at all.
I'm an idiot, I'm pretty certain, but is there something easy I am overlooking here? Will an AEBS not bridge a wired network unless it's cable or DSL? I'm unclear on exactly what kind of network my college uses.
    thanks!

Most likely your college's network is providing NAT/DHCP services. I suggest that you set up your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a "wireless bridge."
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.
