[SOLVED] Brother DCP-7065DN in a Network: Scanner works, Printer not.

Hi all,
I am aware of the fact that there is a similar thread, but the issue isn't really solved there.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=109570
I've got a shiny new DCP-7065DN, which works ok in Ubuntu as a network printer and scanner.
I was forced to use Brother's official rpm's, since foomatic doesn't support this model yet.
Now with my Arch 64, I've managed to get the scanner running (after a lot of playing).
But unfortunately, I only manage to print a testpage from CUPS, and that was it.
Other than that, the file is getting sent and Brother's LCD says: "receiving data", but nothing happens.

printer Brother_DCP-7065DN is idle. enabled since Fri 29 Jul 2011 23:12:34 CEST
Data file sent successfully
What I tried to solve the problem
After reading through *many* forums (not only Arch) I tried the following.
Install a2ps
Result: It is printing! It prints all documents as postscript, but in text-mode. Shouldn't the official driver be able to interpret a postscript file as something else than plain text? Am I missing something? This could be the key, since it is printing at least. Uninstalled.
Uninstall cups and reinstall.
According to some threads, starting avahi-deamon resolves the problem. It doesn't so with me.
What I didn't try (yet)
udev rule. However, in my case it seems not likely to be the way to go, since I do not print via USB
Sometimes I am able to print from Firefox, sometimes not.
The same goes for Pdf's printed from Evince....
Has anyone had similar issues? How was it resolved?

Dear Fellows,
Downgrading the package "file" to Version 5.04 did the trick for me immediately.
The printer has been working for a while now consistently, and I am confident to say that this really solved the problem and wasn't just luck.
However, you need to make sure that "file" doesn't get updated when doing your regular system update.
If you are interested in the full story: I posted a Guide how to install the DCP-7065DN (and probably other new brother devices) here.

  • [SOLVED]Can't print to my Brother DCP-7065dn after upgrade to systemd.

    Hi All,
I have a pure systemd installation and I'm having issues printing. I have a Brother DCP-7065dn which works well on my Ubuntu laptop with the drivers availible from Brother. I downloaded and installed the drivers for this printer from the AUR and added the printer to cups (both lpd and usb). When I print a test page cups reports that the job completed succesfully but the printer does not print. Not sure what is wrong. Has anyone else had printing issues after upgrading to systemd? Any thought on how I can get this printer working?
    Thanks
Edit: BTW. Brother offers deb and rpm packages for their Linux drivers. I installed the deb packages on an Ubuntu machine and I can print over the network (lpd) with no problems. I also installed the brother on may arch system using the wrong drivers just to see what would happen. Using the DCP-7045N Foomatic/Postscript driver I can communicate with the printer (progress) but printing a test page results in the printer spitting out a lot of blank pages. I can also print to an HP from my arch laptop with no problems. So the issue seems to be with the drivers for the Brother DCP-7065dn from the AUR. Not sure how I'm going to fix this. I can't install the rpm or deb packages on my machine. and I don't want to switch to a red-hat or debian system if I can avoid it.
Final Edit: SOLVED! I need to learn to go back and read comments. In the AUR there was a comment regurding this exact issue. I needed to enable multilib repository and install lib32-glibc. Now it works. \(^_^)/

Did you add the printer using Bonjour or did you select one of the IP protocols? If the latter, then you cannot use IPP. The Canon MF driver supports LPD or HP Jetdirect.

Updated to Canon driver 10.2.0, printer is still not appearing in the list.
If you mean that after you change the USE menu to "Select printer software" and the Printer Software window is empty, then try restarting your Mac. This can rebuild the printer list.

Both Canon MF background items are running according to Activity Monitor.
The new MF v10.x driver does not install or use the MF Background process. So this process is a leftover from a previous driver. I would therefore recommend you trash the older driver files and run the v10.2.0 driver installer again.
Depending on the version of driver you had installed prior to upgrading to Mavericks, the name of the folder can be different but will reside in /Library/Printers/Canon. Here you will see BJPrinter and IJScanner. Leave them alone and just remove the one or two that have MF in the name.
You then need to navigate to /Library/Launch Agents/ and trash any Canon plist file. Then restart the Mac and run the Canon MF v10.2 installer again and then see if you can add the MF8350.

    Dinesh from Nepal

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the current incarnation of Snow Leopard, and fixes various issues in earlier releases.
Current versions of Mac OS X 10.6 include the necessary printer driver for the Brother DCP-7030 printer (HT3669).  (The asterisk footnote on that printer indicates there was a recent update via Software Update, so get to current 10.6.8 and ensure the Brother printer software update has been selected and loaded.)
If you're on the current Mac OS X version and if have the Brother update loaded (from Apple) and if problems with the printer persist, then remove the printer from your current Mac OS X configuraton, and re-add it, and see if that clears the particular issue(s) you're having with this printer.
From experience, the Brother software for Mac OS X is a little odd, and the older software stuff (and particularly around the scanner controls for their multi-function series) were, um, unusual, and a little unstable.  Printing generally worked fine, though.  Recent versions of the Brother software are working better including for the scaller, but the UIs and the set-up are both still odd.  If you're using the box as a printer (I haven't looked at the DCP-7030 features), then you're best using the Brother software that arrives from Apple and not the software from Brother.
Also ensure the printer firmware is current.  That's corrected some odd behavior on some Brother printers.

  • Cannot print with my Brother DCP-7055 (copies and scans are working)

Since I updated my system I am not able to print something with my Mac on the Brother DCP-7055.
When I want to print something it shows on the printer that it is submitting the data but nothing happen. From this moment the printer is like "blocked" and all the new task are in the waiting list.
I tried everything, delete the printer and reinstall it, reinstall the driver and everything.
It is not a problem of the printer I think, because I can do copies and as well I can do a scan (connected with my Mac as well).
    I need help!

  • [solved] Brother DCP-110C and CUPS 1.2.x

    Hi,
my girlfriend's multifunction printer/scanner-combo from Brother doesn't work. There are drivers (cupswrapper) directly from Brother, but they don't work. There are no error messages in the logfile of cups and the Brother-Logfile.
CUPS detect the printer correct and show it in the webinterface, but printing a test page doesn't work. I have installed the driver with the instructions from their page. I have edit the files to need the directory structure of ArchLinux (/etc/rc.d/ instead /etc/init.d/), but nothing happens. CUPS find the driver and all, but the printer won't print. Can it be, that the drivers from Brother don't work anymore with CUPS 1.2.x, because their driver are written for CUPS 1.1.
    Any suggestions??
    Daniel
edit: The suggestion from Brother's FAQ, doesn't work.

After some hard fights the multifunction printer/scanner-combo works...
There was several steps necessary to get this device working. First of all, you will need cups and lpd (lprng-package). Both packages conflicts with each others, I know, but the device won't work with only one of them. So I first installed cups and force lprng to install over the files from cups. Very very ugly, I know.
You will need the cupswrapper and the lpd-driver from Brother.
Also the SANE driver from Brother is necessary to scan with the scanner.
After installation of the three drivers from Brother, you must edit the cupswrapper script because there are /etc/init.d in the files. Change these to /etc/rc.d
Cups will find the printer on his own, if the driver is correctly installed. Sane finds the scanner after executing the br2scan (program from Brother) installation steps.
If there are any questions about these device. Feel free to ask me, I think after several days looking through logfiles etc. I can answer all questions....
    Daniel
PS: I will search further for a solution for the very ugly pacman -Sfd lprng.....

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus connected to network but cant print

My OJ Pro 8600 was previously configured and working properly, but has stopped. I was able to print off of 3 computers and a phone. All have the same IP directed toward the printer and the printer has the IP as well. I have reset the network, reset the printers network settings and the set them back up, ensured the computers have the correct ip address for the printer as well. I have tried to print the from the computers with no luck. The printer does pull a proper IP .120 in a .0 network with default gateway matching all the computers which is pingable. Printer doesn't show in the arp table either.
The computers can't find the printer, neither can the phone and the same from printer to computer when attempting to scan to the computer. I have checked the WIA on all computers, restarted the service also.
Also tried manually setting the IP on the printer and still no luck. My wireless range hasn't changed as I'm still within signal distance from the router with a strong signal.
Tried Print and scan Doctor - no luck
I'm at a total loss minus hooking a computer directly up to the printer at this point.
I keep thinking 'PC load letter' and laugh as this must be something small i'm overlooking..
    HELP?
Problem solved - full reset on router and network settings on printer.

  • Windows 8.1 can't use older Brother DCP8040 network scanner drivers

There are a  lot of older multifunction centers and scanners that will not scan across a network to a windows 8.1 pc. Upon migration to 8.1 many of us are losing our ability to scan across our networks.  I have a lot of Brother DCP8040 machines
out there.  Brother refuses to rewrite and support network scanning capabilities under win 8.1 for its older machines.  The drivers we now have support network scanning under XP, Vista and win 7... but not under win 8.1.  Win 8.1 cannot
find the scanner on the network.  I can connect a DCP8040 directly to a win 8.1 pc, load the drivers and both print and scan.  I can print across the network, but cannot scan.  Again, windows 8.1 cannot find the scanner on the network.
Anyone know of any 3rd party solution where the older scanner drivers can be used under win 8.1?  My clients refuse to migrate to win 8.1 as it means they have to trash the older MFC's and make considerable investments in new equipment.
I am reading that the same problems are being experienced with older HP, Epson, and Cannon scanners.  Someone has to come up with a generic solution.

Maybe you've been at it too long.  That is an answer/comment in typical MS big business mentality.  You are dramatizing the whole thing to suit your premise.  You are overestimating the time necessary to write the driver and you are understating
the significance/size of the problem and the potential return. Stocks of the Brother DCP8040 are still being sold new and refurnished.  Literally millions of other brands and models are being affected.  So it is not like these machines wont be around
tomorrow.  Its not like the problem is not significant enough to draw attention.
If you've really been around that long, go back and think about when you started.  If I had a dime for every solution that was sold as freeware "as is"  with no support and the condition "if it works, if works, if not,
sorry".  But so many have worked and have provided a solution.
I am not suggesting that anyone should jeopardize their personal or corporate well being or devote their entire work week to solve the problem. There are many out there who will write the thing and put it out there as freeware, collecting
donations, just to see if they can do it or help the situation.  There are those who even relax buy doing such things, "solving the problem."  I mean, if it takes 5-40 hours work, I would be surprised. I myself can write, but I just don't
understand enough about the workings of a printer driver across a network to do the job.
Again, WHERE ARE YOU?  And the proof in my words would be for someone to take the task and do it. Again, HEY, WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?

  • Brother DCP 7020 Scanner Driver Problem

    Hi,
Hadn't used the scanner on my Brother DCP 7020 in 6 months and couldn't remember how to do scans. Called Brother Tech Support and they reminded me that the icon for scanning is in the Menu Bar at top of screen. For reasons not clear to me at the time they also suggested I delete the Control Center and scanner drivers and download the latest ones from the Brother site. Alas after I did this when I attempted to install the scanner drivers I got the error message "The chosen volumn contains software newer than the software you are attempting to install." The tech said to ignore the message and press continue so I did. When I continued with the installation process I got the message "There is nothing to install."
The tech asked me to reboot but this did not solve the problem so he mumbled something about it being a Operating System problem and told me a higher level person would call me within 4 hours. You guessed it! nobody every called.
Today I tried reloading the drivers that came with the printer but when the process was complete Control Center was nowhere to be found. I tried calling Brother Tech Support again but they never called back.
Having no idea what the problem might be I tried Repairing Disk Permisions but that did not help. Next I booted from the original OS X disk and tried Repair Disk. The utility ran and said that there were "No repairs needed."
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here and what I can do to fix things?
    Thanks,
    Winston
After I did this he talked me through the install process

    Hi,
Not sure I follow you. I downloaded the new drivers from the Brother site and when I went to install them I got the error message "nothing to install" or some such thing. Given that the dmg was on my desktop why would the computer not be able to "find" something to install?
I found a thread on this site that said that many folks had printer problems soon after installing the 10.4.11 update and on checking back I found that I haven't used the scanner since I installed 10.4.11. Since the tech guys at Brother mumbled something about it being an operating system problem I am wondering if Apple screwed something up in the 10.4.11 update and is ignoring the problem because of the recent release of 10.5?
Some folks on the other thread said that when they reverted back to 10.4.10 their printer problems went away so I'm wondering if that's what I should do to be able to reinstall the scanner drivers? Or are there worthwhile improvements on the 10.4.11 update that I should not throw away?
Must say that as some one with a technical background (ex race care mechanic) I never cease to be amazed at how Apple, Brother, and other computer companies simply walk away from their problems rather than deal with them. If the folks at Ferrari tried that back when I was in racing old Enzo wouldn't have been too happy. Wonder why ole Bill and Steve don't seem to mind?
    All best,
    Winston

  • SOLVED! HP Officejet 6500A E710 will not stay connected to the network. scanner not connected

After 5 hours of live remote HP tech support, and 10 more hours of web searching, I am happy to say I have solved the wireless network connection issue with scanning and printing using the HP Officejet 6500A E710n-z.  I notice that there are a lot of people with similar issues with no common, successful fix.  Here is what worked for me.
    Background Info:
Upgraded internet service from 9Mbps to 27Mbps...Provider brought out new Arris DG860 modem/router.  Configured network and connected all clients (smart phones, PCs, Tablets, etc) successfully accept the printer.  With this new router/modem the printer/scanner/fax would not connect to my PC at all (Windows 7 64-bit).  The Officejet was always connected to the network, however, anytime I tried to print I would get an error "Unable to connect to the printer...", and when I made an attempt to scan.."Scanner not connected, make sure it is connected to the network..." blah blah blah.
    Process:
After searching the web for solutions with no success, I finally made my first call to HP tech support.  Tech tried numerous fixes: many network changes (channel, static IP, etc.), made changes to Windows system settings and registry, installed new software and drivers, ran the scan doctor, partial, semi, and full reset on the printer.  He changed my wifi channel to 6 (or 11) from AUTO and whola.  That seemed to fix the problem.  After hanging up the phone 10 minutes later "No connection" errors again.  Made a second call to HP Tech Support, and this new tech basically tried all the same fixes as the first tech.  Worked again for 10-15 minutes then disconnected.  Made third call to tech and this individual tried the same fixes as the previous two, but to no avail.  He said he would have to direct me to a more Advanced Technician and would call back tomorrow.  They called back the next day, and this new tech fixed the issue within 20 minutes.
    Problem/Solution:
The fourth "more advanced" tech made one change in my network configuration settings.  He changed my network mode from B/G/N to B/G and now the printer/scanner/fax stays connected and works like brand new.  The only problem is that all my devices (including the Officejet) are 802.11N capable.  Setting my network to the old B/G mixed mode slows my speed down just a bit.  Using B/G/N mode or N, my download speed is 27 Mbps.  On B/G mixed my speed is 25Mbps.  Not too big of a deal, though.  All the HP Support Techs were very nice and helpfull.  They refunded my $25 Tech fee [fee charged when product is out of warranty] because the problem is not "technically" solved, even though it does work.  Conclusio:  This seems to be an issue with my the modem/router provided by my ISP.  Could also be that it is an older Officejet and need to upgrade.    To Fix Follow the Steps Below:
Step 1:  Find your default gateway IP...usuall 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or similar.  Type this IP into your web address bar and hit enter.
Step 2:  Enter the username and password.  This is normally set at factory default --> username: admin ....passowrd: password .... or .... admin
Step 3: Go to the "Wireless Setup" tab and under the "Advanced Options" and "Wireless Network Settings" change the "Wireless Mode" to "B/G mixed".
Step 4:  Click "Apply" then close the browser.
You may, or may not, lose your wifi connection for a short period while the new settings are applied and you may, or may not, have to power cycle your modem/router.  That's it.  Worked for me and I hope it works for you too.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post.

OK, that all sounds right.  Here are a few more router config ideas:
    1. Make sure that 802.11g mode is available, along with others is OK, but 'g' must be present.
    2. Change the channel to 11.
    3. Use WPA or WPA/WPA2 encryption, not WPA2 only.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • [solved] printer - brother DCP-J315W - "sending data to printer"

    Hi All,
My sister have a printer brother DCP-J315W, connected with  usb.
I installed the brother-dcpj315w package from AUR, and it used to work without issue.
But I was informed "recently" that this printer is not working correctly since perhaps two months. (perhaps it's related to the AUR package update, but I think it's was already not working before the update.)
When I try to print, there is no activity on the printer, and, using the cups web-interface, I can see, for the printer status: "idle - sending data to printer"
I'm not sure about what I see in the logs, there are some failure about systemd and avahi service, when I try to print, perhaps it's the issue, but I really don't know.
journaltct -f - when I try to print a test page.
/var/logs/cups/error.log - for this day, with a debug log level, and when I added this printer and print a test page.
It tried to not use the usblp kernel module without success, the printer is not recognized by cups without this module loaded.
So, I'm quite lost with this issue.

    Hi again,
Issue solved, I had to execute this commande after the package installation:
    /opt/brother/Printers/dcpj315w/cupswrapper/cupswrapperdcpj315w
I contacted the package owner so he can update his package.
    Thanks

  • Brother DCP-150C - Scanner not working

    Hi!
I am trying to make my scanner scan but it just doesnt work...It isn't found.
    This is what i did:
    - Downloaded these files:
    brscan-skey-0.2.1-1.i386.rpm
    brscan2-0.2.4-0.i386.rpm
    dcp150ccupswrapper-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm
    dcp150clpr-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm
    (Which is scanner and printer-drivers)
    - Extracted them with rpmextract so i got a subfolder "usr" which i copied to /
Now: Printer is working flawlessly, only the scanner makes problems.
    Here's the output of sane-find-scanner:
    sane-find-scanner
    found USB scanner (vendor=0x04f9, product=0x01cf) at libusb:002:002
    but:
    scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
    (as root)
I have tried to use the brother-program "brsaneconfig2" by adding my Scanner to it, but it didnt have any use.
What am i doing wrong? I can't think of anything more to do, it's frustrating. Damn binary drivers
    Thanks in advance,

Hi, I am trying to use my scanner, a Brother DCP-115C, with arch. I installed "brscan2-network" from AUR, ran the "/usr/local/Brother/sane/setupSaneScan1 -i" command (as the wiki page suggests) which successfully added the line "brother2" to "/etc/sane.d/dll.conf". "/usr/lib/libsane-brother2.so" is present.
I tried plugging the scanner in repeatedly, but "scanimage -L" always says
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
    Some output:
    lsusb:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04f9:018c Brother Industries, Ltd DCP-115C
    log:

What can I do to make the scanner work?

    Hi Zydo58,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact network configuration you are currently using with your iMac and your two printers. For more general printer troubleshooting, you may find the steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Need help to get my Brother DCP-J125 printer working again

I'm totally stuck here. I had this printer working and now after a few months it doesn't work anymore.
I tried it with/without usblp. Tried it by installing the drivers myself and by installing the drivers with brother-dcpj125 from AUR (and I did run the script that comes with the drivers). Readded printer several times, reinstalled cups several times. The printer doesn't print. I think cups doesn't find the printer... (The scanner works btw)

This is everything I installed or upgraded since March. Do you need the whole log?

You probably need to change the URI in CUPS.  See the following for some tips.

I can select the driver for my printer when I modify the printer, but the "Connection" stays "usb:/dev/usb/lp0".
