uzbl is great, you should try it out (yaourt -S uzbl-git).  Lightweight, renders flawlessly, and keyboard controlled (although you can use the mouse too if you want).  No flash player required, and I imagine if a text browser is an option (it isn't for me) then you must be willing to put up with broken support for opening new windows via Javascript.

  • Anyone know of a Voice Translator that can work without WIFI?  for travel

would like to find a Voice Translator APP  (don't care about cost) that works without WIFI  - for Travel use in some areas with little or no wifi service.

Hey Calchick, I didn't read much of the details, only looked for key words, like offline, translation, etc. Illaass is correct, voice recognition and translation programs tend to be very large. If you have web access, you can talk in your native language and be heard in the foreign language. With out the web, your a text and read operation.
Personal experience, may help you, take of it what you will-- in BC time, (Before Computers) and traveling around, I found if you learn a few basic phrases in the language of the people you are visiting, i.e., things like, "Can you help me?", "Where am I" (have a map in hand when you ask this), "Where is the bathroom", "How much?", "Where do you go eat", "Where's the market?", "Take me to the pharmacy / hospital", and the most important phrase: "Thank You" I know, dumb examples but you get the point, about 20 phrases that cover the basics, who, what, where, when, and how, (think about the questions or things you would ask if you were in a city, in the country you now live, that you have never been in) and a working knowledge of some basic answers, (also, learn a few cruse words, that way you will know if your getting help or the butt of a joke), along with a translation guide book, you can get through almost any situation. Being able to speak even just a little of the other persons language, without using a device, will make most people want to help you, (unless you get a real A-hole), most people will help you if you make an attempt to learn and speak there language, even if it's just a little, (shows you cared enough to try). The translator app just replaces the book, and it will make it easier to learn the phrases. Remember; The app is just a tool, not your mouth. It can get a little rough at times, but generally works, got me through a few countries and made a few friends along the way. Having a soccer ball helps too! Hope this helps, have good travels. Cheers.

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Is a fix for "not compatible HP Smart Web Printing 4.60, coming? Do you have a browser that will work with it?

Brand new wireless network printer from hp uses HP web printing 4.60. So I can't use my new printer. If you have a different browser that will work great, I hate to switch to a non mozilla browser.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

HP is a third-party developer of that toolbar. <u>'''HP has chosen'''</u> to only support IE versions 6, 7, and 8 for using the HP SWP product. See: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00793678
The HP SWP product gives you options to ''"select, clip, edit, and print content from Web pages without printing the entire Web page."''; see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846025&tmp_track_link=ot_recdoc/c00793678/en_us/c01846025/loc:2&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us . You can perform those same functions with some add-ons for Firefox and/or free utilities on the market.
I use an HP printer and can do all of the above without the HP SWP Toolbar.

what version of ipad 4g shoud i buy here in the US that can work in the philippines local data provider? at&amp;t or verizon? any idea anyone?

Ah, I see, ask your provider what type of cell service they use the following outlines what the two iPads offer.
    Model for AT&T: 4G LTE (700, 2100 MHz)3; UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    Model for Verizon: 4G LTE (700 MHz)3; CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz); UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
Also ensure you don't buy a carrier locked/subsidized iPad.  Buy it free and clear without a contract so you can use it on your terms.
I know a lot of internal providers have pay as you go data SIMs and you can basically swap these out as you travel between different countries.

Appreciate your support and if possible , how to do this?

If you want to work with Mac OS X, you need one computer per simultaneous user.
What you are describing, " Multiple simultaneous logins to a single computer" is not avialable on a regular Mac of any description, unless you decide to use Unix tools instead of Mac OS X.
Server will happily store files for many, many users and provide them to multiple (up to hundreds) of computers at "near hard Drive" speeds over Gigabit Ethernet. It can make the File Sharing part easy.

I want to place an image in my InDesign document that can work with an address like this (\Resources\Thumb) rather than this (C:\Users\JSmith\Desktop\InDesign thumbnail Test\001\Resources\Thumb) is this possible? In a nutshell I want to point the link to an image in a directory that uses just part of the address.

I know this is something you can do in Maya with linked files. I guess InDesign just isn't there yet.
MW Design -  Yeah I think "Relative paths" is the right term! I want to create a Layout with an image in the center of the page - and then duplicate my folder structure with that file. With that, I want to replace the Linked image file with a diferent image file of the same name. In effect having multiple files of the same layout with different images.  I hope that made sense.

Apple proved their own JDK. You will need to wait until Apple update it. I'm a also a Mac user and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it to come with Snow Leopard (1.6).
Apple being Apple haven't given out any news (as far as I know), the latest they have released is Java 1.5 (with some updates I expect).

I hate browser-specific web sites. They're usually nothing but lazy programming.
Anyway, there are third-party web browers in the iTunes Store that have a setting that will report the browser as being a different one. iCab Mobile comes to mind and there are probably others. You can try one of those, setting it to report as IE, and see if that site will then work.
If, however, the site is using Microsoft-specific technologies, then you won't be able to use that site from your iPad. The only workaround would be to use one of the remote-control solutions to take control of a computer running Internet Explorer.
