[SOLVED] Building VCS packages from AUR fails

Hello,
Whenever I try to build a git or svn package from AUR, build fails with the error in a clean chroot enviroment:
==> ERROR: Unknown download protocol: svn
Aborting...
When the build starts, makepkg actually downloads source files properly. Any clues?

Trilby wrote:How many packages has this happened with?  Can you give an example of one that produces this error?  If the download proceeds when the build starts, it sounds like the PKGBUILD is outdated and is manually grabbing the source in the build function (in pacman<4.0 style).
I was building https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/uefi-shell-svn: a popular and up-to-date PKGBUILD.
Indeed I didn't merge the conf files of  clean chroot. There was a makepkg.conf.pacnew, the lacking part in my old makepkg.conf was:
VCSCLIENTS=('bzr::bzr'
'git::git'
'hg::mercurial'
'svn::subversion')
and some small changes. Everything works fine now. Was my bad. Sorry for incovenience and thanks for your help.

  • Package from AUR failed to install after doing many steps, how to rm?

    How can I see what files have been left on my hard drive after a package failed to install. I can't pacman -Rsu the package because it didnt install, but now i got some other packages that i don't need then. and probably some other stuff while the package was being extracted..
    How can i prevent from leaving a messy trail?

    Yeah gen2ly, i was using yaourt to get a package from AUR.
    I was able to uninstall the extra packages that were uninstalled, but is it possible that when the PKGBUILD failed that it left some random files somewhere? That's what I trully want to know. The other dependancies i have already removed.
    Hey thanks for the info on unzip, Runiq! unzip works miracles!!!! I installed it, and now the front end "File Roller" AKA "Archive Manager" in Gnome can suddenly handle .zip files! It's awesome! no need for p7zip or xarchiver.
    Every newbie or windows transferee should know about it!
    But anyways, is it possible the failed PKGBUILD left files somewhere?

  • [SOLVED] How to install from AUR?

    Ok, I know I'm posting too many questions too fast but I'm at the last step in configuring my videocard driver to install X and I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere, sorry for too much posting.
    I need to install a package from AUR but even I read the guide (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR_User_Guidelines) I can't make it clear enough on how to do it so please correct me if there's anything wrong.
    a. first of all, I need to download and install wget because I'm at CLI ready to configure X but I need the latest test drivers that fully support my videocard.
    b. mkdir ~/myuser/build && cd ~/myuser/build
    c. I need to download from here (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34773) the Tarball, PKGBUILD and all the files listed in "Files", right?
    d. Once I have files downloaded all I need to do is follow the instructions in the wiki,
       1.  Acquire a PKGBUILD  and any other required files (e.g. patches)
       2. Run makepkg in the directory where the files are saved
       3. Install the resulting package with pacman
    Thanks for any advice!

    guys,
    did you ever saw that Heineken TV Ad where a woman shows her dresser-room to her fellow friends and they start screaming like (women does) crazy, and while they still screaming a lot they start to hear a somewhat identical scream from other part of the house that in fact shows up as the boyfriend/husband of the first lady showing his buddys his special fridge-room filled with green bottles?
    Well, that was my *exact* impression yesterday after having KDE4 up and running with composite turned on faster than any Fluxbox system on a iCore 7, and that's the top part of the iceberg.
    I think the best thing I like about Arch it's it's simplicity - besides it's speed. Okay, it may seem somewhat obscure to profane because editing configuration files is something strange to profanes, but if you have a little knowledge of GNU/Linux like myself once completed the Beginner's Guide, looking at /var/log/pacman.log and start tweaking you found yourself with a very powerfull yet easy to use, easy and fast to learn system. Arch is incredible, that's why it's gaining so much popularity, and it's community is superb.
    I'm doing my first steps around it and find Yaourt a very cool tool, I love all the info it shows about installed and AUR packages and the way it colorize, very pragmatic-oriented (as Arch is).
    On the other hand Packer is a swift tool to replace pacman.
    Thank you guys for your kindness and time spent on this n00b, best!

    Updating yaourt fixed it. What happened was that before i knew what the AUR was - i had installed a lot of community supported repos. After installing youart i removed the community supported repos because i thought i didn't need them.
    I didn't realise that yaourt was not in the official repositories, so the package was never able to upgrade.
    yaourt should be in the official repos.
    Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Virtual memory exhausted when compiling packages from AUR

    Recently I've seen this error more and more often. When I tried compiling some packages from AUR, I ended up getting "virtual memory exhausted" error. The first time it happened with clementine-git, then android-studio. Can I do something about it?

    I am also facing the same problem.  I am trying to install a package, and the installations aborts saying 'virtual memory exhausted'. The RAM is 2 GB and i have alloted 2 GB as swap.  Things i have tried so far
    -install  using yaourt
    -install using  makepkg.
    -change  TMPDIR to HDD.
    Even when i tried it without any window manager to start, limiting the RAM usage, the problem still persists. The only way is to allot an extra swap space, but that would mean that i will have to delete a partition, which is not a feasible solution. Is there anything else one could do. ?

    That just tries to reinstall (and rebuild as we are talking about AUR) all the AUR packages that are installed. Even the ones that doesn't need any updates.

    Obviously it doesn't. You're welcome to try bauerbill, which should do what you want using the code above.

  • [SOLVED] Unable to build packages from AUR (build: command not found)

    I recently hosed the filesystem on my arch install of ~8 months. I reinstalled arch today and didn't have many problems since I had backups of many important config files. Anyways, I still need to get a few programs installed from AUR, but nothing I get from AUR will build.
    I download the tarball, extract into a folder in /home/myuser/builds and then go into that folder and run makepkg -s (as always)
    It checks the files and extracts/downloads them. Then I get the following error message:
    ==> Starting build()...
    /usr/bin/makepkg: line 741: build: command not found
    ==> ERROR: Build Failed.
    Aborting...
    I've run abs and I checked out the abs wiki page, I've also installed base-devel. I am not sure what else I need to do, the error message is not specific enough.
    The packages I have been trying to install are      ttf-ms-fonts 2.0-7,      keepass 2.14-2, and I also tried ttf-vista-fonts 1-3. I am fairly certain that it is not a problem with the PKGBUILD files.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Nope, haven't tried that, I think mainly because I wanted to learn how to use pacman and how to build using ABS. At this point I think I know how to use pacman/abs, as much as this thread might make it appear that I dont
    I'll give it a try, as I frequently install software from AUR. In the past I think I let software from the AUR get outdated, Yaourt (clumsy name) sounds like it would help that a bit. Thanks!
    Edit: BTW, I really love Arch. I tried it out on a flash drive about 8 months ago (maybe more), and after about 12 hours I was sold and installed it on the drive that Windows XP previously held. Even considering that I had many problems during the initial install, but they were all problems that caused me to learn and were easy to resolve. Seriously, I have lots of Windows tech experience, but only Arch forced me to learn Linux. I had tried Ubuntu previously but it was such a bore, and the problems tended to be hard to find solutions for. I try to convince my other Linux using friends to try arch, but they see it as too hands-on. I don't see it that way, it is very hands off after initial configuration, and the initial config only takes a week or less on the first try and a day and a half (or so) if you re-install. Having backups of your config files is of course a huge deal, and I am glad I had most of those.
    Really, I love Arch Linux, it has taught me so much.

  • Ruby-audio from AUR fails to build [SOLVED]

    I'm attempting to install ruby-audio from AUR.  Got the PKGBUILD file.  Running makepkg results in a complaint about options for an install directory.   I'm not expert enough at the ruby ecosystem and gem to see any obvious problem.  What is the fix?

    package() {
      cd "$srcdir"
      # _gemdir is defined inside package() because if ruby[gems] is not installed on
      # the system, makepkg will exit with an error when sourcing the PKGBUILD.

      gem install --ignore-dependencies -i "$pkgdir$_gemdir" -n "$pkgdir/usr/bin" \

    A search here in the Arch forums turned up nothing.

    Compiles installs OK using yaourt, however does not work on my up-to-date system with the issue discussed here: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1497399.html

    Can you check if:
    sudo mkdir /etc/hal/fdi
    sudo touch /etc/hal/fdi/policy
    solves the problem?

  • DarkRadiant from AUR fails to build

    Hello,
    I am trying to install DarkRadiant (Doom 3 and Dark Mod level editor) from AUR using yaourt, but all I get is this:

    I have tried to delete sources folder but it did not help. Any ideas?

    Seems MD5Sums outdated, i don't know the yaourt way but here's the manual fix to bypass stepbystep:
    $ wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/darkr … ant.tar.gz
    $ tar xvzf darkradiant.tar.gz
    $ cd darkradiant
    $ nano PKBUILD <- edit this file and remove theese two lines:
        echo "a79fe9432899ccdd883fd1c56cef4f2b  -" >"$srcdir"/md5sources
        find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 cat | md5sum --status -c "$srcdir"/md5sources || return 1
    $ makepkg -c -i -s
    Hope that helps...

  • Sage-mathematics from AUR fails to build

    Anyone have any ideas why eclib shared libraries failed to build. I'd like to get the program running quickly, as I'm using it for college. On an unrelated note, why hasn't it remained in the repos? Its takes quite a long time to build. Let me know if anything else will help.

    I'm getting something slightly different when I try to build this package. They all seem to be the same as this, except with different function names.
    error: ‘mulColDense’ was not declared in this scope, and no declarations were found by argument-dependent lookup at the point of instantiation [-fpermissive]
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this?

  • Installing older package from aur

    how do I revert to an older package from the aur? I installed the new build of utorrent and it won't run so I was wondering how to revert back to the old build? thanks

    Well, my first thought was "of course it fscking is", but in the spirit of the forum I gave a more diplomatic answer.

  • [SOLVED] Installing Catalyst drivers from AUR

    Hi everyone!
    Got me an new laptop and have an Radeon HD 3200 in it and hoped to get it working but
    I dont managed to get it to work so I hoped someone here could help me
    Ive tested the xf86-video-ati
                         xf86-video-radeonhd
                         xf86-video-radeonhd-git
    But those does get it to work but the performance is really shit and I really want 3d acceleration
    so I decided to give the catalyst 9.4-1 from AUR a go.
    Installs with yaourt and everything seems to go fine but when I startx it goes back to command line.
    My xorg:
    Section "ServerFlags"
          Option "DontZap" "false"
    EndSection
    #Section "Module"
    #      Load "glx"
    #      Load "dri"
    #      Load "drm"
    #EndSection
    Section "Device"
          Identifier "Card0"
          Driver "fglrx"
    #      Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
    #      Option "DRI" "on"
    #      Option "ColorTiling" "on"
    EndSection
    #Section "DRI"
    #      Group "video"
    #      Mode 0666
    #EndSection
    The commented lines were used for the radeonhd driver.
    Here is the Xorg.0.log when using fglrx driver:

    Thanks greenfish for your help I changed my xorg.conf to this:
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "aticonfig Layout"
    Screen "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" RightOf "Screen0"
    EndSection
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "DontZap" "false"
    Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
    Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
    Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
    Option "DPMS" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
    Driver "fglrx"
    BusID "PCI:1:5:0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
    Device "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
    Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Viewport 0 0
    Depth 24
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    And now I get into X with the catalyst driver and it seems much smoother than with
    the radeonhd driver.
    But now comes the next problem, when I try to launch a 3d application such as tuxkart
    I get this outout:
    [johan@acer ~]$ tuxkart
    Data files will be fetched from: '/usr/share/games/tuxkart'
    X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
    Major opcode of failed request: 137 (GLX)
    Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
    Serial number of failed request: 21
    Current serial number in output stream: 21
    Anyone knows anything about this? glxgears gives me the same results.
