[SOLVED]Can't add files larger than 4GB in K3b

Hi. I wanted to burn a file over 4 GB on a DVD5 today in K3b. No luck. When adding a file which is greater than 4.0GB, I am being told I should use mkisofs >=2.01.01a33 / genisoimage >=1.1.4.
K3b says my mkisofs is 2.1, and my genisoimage is 1.1.9. (checked via genisoimage --version)
I am sure it is going to fit on a DVD5, I split my file in WinRAR so that it would fit DVD5 size perfectly. I did some googling, tried changing parameters, and still no luck. I can workaround this by doing
genisoimage -allow-limited-size filename > isoname.iso
But obviously that's not what I want. Any ideas?
PS.: k3b 1.66.0alpha2-3, cdrkit 1.1.9-2
PPS.: Looks like nobody cares:

So, if I understand that correctly, cdrkit doesn't support >4GB files, and cdrtools does?
How do I switch to cdrtools, then? I suppose cdrkit and cdrtools are conflicting with each other.
And I can't remove cdrkit because dvd+rw-tools depends on it. Will dvd+rw-tools works with cdrtools as well?
There is also something called "dvdrtools" in /extra, described as:
"A fork of cdrtools, with the primary goal of supporting writable DVD drives"
Of course, I've got a DVD drive, so if it would support my drive better than cdrtools, I'll give it a shot. But will it support >4GB files as cdrtools does?
sudo pacman -Rd cdrkit
yaourt -S cdrtools
I am 99% sure dvd+rw-tools should work with cdrtools... I would try out cdrtools first... then if it doesn't work for you perhaps then try out dvdrtools... it is IIRC just a fork of cdrtools... cdrtools is able to burn DVD just fine here.
Followed the steps here, didnt work.
When I yaourt -S cdrtools, it just installs cdrkit-1.1.9-2 , and k3b is still unable to burn >4Gb dvds. These are the kind of things that kill the user experience in our OS.
Its real sad, im using a windows app through wine to burn dvd's.

  • Easiest way to transfer files larger than 4gb between mac and windows?

I just borrowed a windows laptop and formatted an external USB drive FAT32 and am able to transfer files from my Tiger OS Mac and the Windows 7 computer..but now I discover the maximum file size is 4GB. How could I transfer files (usually video) larger than that? Thanks for any help.

Set up a network and file sharing, or format the drive to Mac OS Extended and install the MacDrive trial on the PC, or format the drive to NTFS and install the NTFS-3G drivers on the Mac.

    Hello Chriowen
    Welcome to the Community
Please make sure you have a strong and consistent coverage for you to be able to download large files completely. I would suggest connecting to a WiFi network because 2G mobile data coverage is not really adviseable for downloading. Or probably use a PC instead.

Mike I have a similar problem with down loading PDF files larger that 3MB. I have three computers with Win XP, IE7 and 56K connection. I have tried to down load three different PDF files from the same source - 1.3MB 2.3MB and 5.3MB. The Computer with Reader 7.0 downloads and opens all files. The computers with Reader 8.1.2 and 9.0 downloads and opens the smaller files but stop at 3.2 MB on the larger file with an error message "The file is damaged and could not be repaired".
As fixes to the problem I have tried turning off any accelerators, installing and using Monzilla foxfire (then removed it since I had the same problem), increasing the cash size from 250MB to 1GB, Saving the file to the desktop rather than opening the file. I have not found useful help in Adobe Reader knowledge base.

  • Getting files bigger than 4GB onto external drive for itunes

Im woundering if anyone can help me ?
I have recently purchased a 2012 mini mac and wanted to transfer my itunes from my pc to the new mac.
After several attempts at doing this i found it easier to start afresh due to my external hdd that i was using on the pc not being large enough.
I have now reached one small problem ,after puchasing a 2Tb hdd then being told to re-formatt it to fat32 i cannot download any hd movies
as they are larger than 4GB.
I am now lead to believe it needs to be formatted to Mac OS Extended(journaled).
So i have now copied my itunes complete folder to the mac temporary so i can wipe the hdd
Only problem now is when i try to re-formatt the hdd it gives me an error message saying it carnt do this .
Can anyone please help me or do i noe hae to buy a new hdd
its a seagate expansion if that helps.
    thanks for any help

If this drive is only ever going to be used with a Mac,
you should actually repartition the drive to be a GUID
partition table with Mac OSX extended journaled format.
It probably will not let you format OSX because because its
partitioning table is MBR (Master Boot Record) which is
    used with PCs.
If you want to use with both Macs and PCs, recreate the
partition table as MBR with the file format as ExFAT instead
    of FAT32.

My key tip is to EXPECT corruption. Keep every save separately so you can go back before damage (which might not be visible). Don't just keep a single old file or rely on daily backups.

You can format the drive using ExFAT or you can format the drive NTFS then use third-party software on the Mac to enable writing to it: NTFS 11.2.443.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated 12 to 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update?
    If not, please do so.
Please clarify  "Can't add files filmed in 1080/60i to Premiere Elements 12."
Are you importing the 1080 60i into the project using (Expert workspace) Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets?
If so, are you getting an error message inside of the video appearing in Project Assets?
Are you setting the project preset manually or letting the program do that task automatically?
    What is the project preset?
    (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General).
The project preset should be, for your 1080i...
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD1080i30
What is the project preset for the 1080p footage?
    (Also see Edit Menu/Project Settings/General.)
The project preset should be, for your 1080p
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
DLSR 1080p30 or DLSR [email protected]
Since your camera appears to be producing AVCHD.mov files, do you have the latest version
of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12/12.1?
The answers will be in the details. Please review and then let us know the details and results
    based on the above.

  • Formatting external drive for read/write PC/Mac & files greater than 4GB

I'm on Snow Leopard and deliver an external drive off-site to a video editor who needs to read/write to the drive and return the edited files and then I need to read/write all over again. All video files are greater than 4GB. How would I go about this? Third party applications like MacDrive create too much overhead when processing video files. FAT32 limits file sizes to 4GB.

    Hi WillDuffy;
Your requirement of files greater than 4GB eliminates FAT.
In your case since you don't have access to the PC, I am afraid you are forced to use the NTFS. This will require you to use the reverse engineered effort called NTFS-3G to be able to write to the disk from your Mac. Sorry.

Hi Wagnerian, Welcome to Apple Discusswions.
When adding files or folders to the Dock, they must go to the right side of the hairline (the same side that Trash is on).
If this what you are doing and it still doesn't work navigate to /Users/YourHome/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and delete that file. then log out and back in or restart. (You'll have to reset your Dock the way you like it)
