[SOLVED] Can't connect to network after upgrade to systemd

Hello:
I recently performed a full system upgrade and migrated to systemd successfully per these articles:
https://www.archlinux.org/news/end-of-i … s-support/
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … stallation
I am able to boot the system using systemd, however I no longer have network access.
I removed the daemons from rc.conf that I was using previously and added them using systemctl, but I can't seem to add the networkmanager daemon as it is not installed.
I have not removed initscripts - as far as I know, it still parses rc.conf - I left a couple of 'legacy' daemons in there such as open-vm-tools (this is running on ESXI) and the network daemon - however since upgrading it seems the network daemon is either not installed or is not loading. I know the guide says to remove initscripts, but it also says it can be left if you need legacy daemons - I would like to move away from the old network system however open-vm-tools is still not compatible with systemd afaik.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thank you.
EDIT: Here is the output of dmesg | grep vmxnet
[    3.766182] WMware vmxnet virtual NIC driver
[    3.771287] Found vmxnet/PCI at 0x2024, irq18
EDIT 2: It seems open-vm-tools is no longer loading either - it did get upgraded during pacman  -Syu (I saw it in the list) - so maybe initscripts is not functioning / loading rc.conf after all? Can someone please assist me with enabling initscripts to run alongside systemd?

Thanks! I can see that ip link was the obvious thing I was missing here.
I have a new interface 'enp2s0' showing as DOWN. I guess now I know what happened to eth0
UPDATE: I found out that vm tools has been upgraded as well, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … systemd%29
Thanks a lot for your help, I will definitely do some more digging in the Arch Wiki and forums next time!

  • Can't connect to network after Upgrade to 7.4 on Vista

I was prompted to update to Apple Software Update for Windows 2.02
and iTunes + Quicktime (I think 7.4 something).
    Currently use iTunes 7.3.2.6
After upgrade, wireless networking won't work. It sees the wireless access point, but I can't make a connection to it.
Hardwire network port doesn't work either.
I had to remove the Apple software updates from Programs and Features and then run a System Restore in Safe Mode to get functionality of network back (System Restore in normal mode fails).
I tried to go through the process a second time, downloading iTunes from www.itunes.com but the same thing happened.

  • Apple TV can no longer connect to network after upgrade.

I had heard that lots of people were affected with this problem with the software upgrade before this one so I deliberately waiting until this one came out before taking a chance. I was wrong.
After updating to 4.4. (3140) I can no longer connect to my network. It says there was a problem and gave the error messaged number: (5) in brackets.
I've had nothing but problems with both Apple TV's that I have owned, version 1 and this new version 2. I've a good signal from my router and I've used three different ones over the time I've had the two apple tvs.
    Anyone got any ideas.
I can't connect the apple tv directly because they are too far apart in the house. I can only connect by wifi.
There is nothing wrong with my wifi because I'm connected to it fine though my imac, iphone and ipad and laptop, (not all at the same time)

Ok, here's a solution, courtesy of our friends at AppleCare.
Unplug the router for 90 seconds.
I was running ATV2 with a Time Capsule.   The TC thought the ATV was still connected using its former IP address so wouldn't let it reconnect with a new one.
Hope this works for anyone else with same problem.

  • Can't connect to 3g after upgrading to ios 8

I have an ipad and use Verizon for cellular data.  After upgrading to IOS 8 I can't connect to 3g.  The upper left hand corner of my ipad says "searching".  I have reset my network settings, turned off and on the ipad, and have had no success.  Any suggestions?

    Hey Gary1177,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like there is trouble with a cellular data connection. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Safari can't connect to internet after upgrading to yosemite

I just updated my early 2009 iMac to Yosemite from the latest version of Mavericks and now Safari, Mail, and Software Update can't connect to the internet but Chrome can (that's how I'm asking this). My internet connection is working, just not for Apple applications. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I expect to face the same problem at my (late 2013 model) MacBook Pro Retina running WIFI only. Safari doesn't open any web-side and App Store is dead too.
    Trying following tip:
Try entering these commands in terminal.
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
IT fixes it for me, as long as you don't restart.
, it works for the moment, and just as mentioned, after restart it's gone and Safari doesn't work again.
However, I was trying to switch off WIFI and connecting the MBP to a LAN network. After a while, a very long while, Safari and App Store were running. After that I was trying to adjust WIFI and Fire wall seeing via System Preferences, without any success.
Google Chrome is running without such problems on my machine ...

  • Can't connect to WIFI after upgrading to IOS 6

After upgrading to IOS6, my 4S stopped connecting any available wifi networks. It keep poping up "Unable to join the network "***" " when I tap any wifi spots I've been used so far. My problem is not like most people says. Instead of taking me the the apple website, mine doesn't even connected! This problem has been around for a week. I have to relay on 3G so far. I've tried resting the wifi setting, resting the iphone and even tried a lot of public wifi spots. It still doesn't work. Is it the problem of hardware? Help me, plz!

The solution lies in the router password encryption. There is the option WPA2 instead of current WPA/WPA2 on my router. I changed the setting to just WPA2 and it worked now. But the former option worked on iOS5.1.1. Thanks!
[Update]Turns out it is still unresolved. After the changing the encryption I restarted the router and it is still the luck I got before. The connection will not last long. Still unable to connect.

  • [solved] Can't connect to network with 64-bit kernel

On 64-bit Arch Linux, I can't get any network access.  On 32-bit Arch Linux, I can connect to my router with an ethernet cable or a wireless card using dhcpcd or networkmanager.
    In 64-bit, I have tried
    - Upgrading my kernel from 3.3.8 to 3.4.2 from the testing repos
    - Getting networkmanager-git from AUR
    - Using the r8168 driver for my ethernet card (which is actually exactly the same one as the one from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … k_messages )
But I haven't been able to get "dhcpcd eth0" to tell me anything but
    dhcpcd[677]: eth0: sending IPv6 Router Solicitation
    dhcpcd[677]: eth0: broadcasting for a lease
    dhcpcd[677]: eth0: sending IPv6 Router Solicitation
    dhcpcd[677]: eth0: sending IPv6 Router Solicitation
    dhcpcd[677]: eth0: sending IPv6 Router Solicitation
    dhcpcd[677]: eth0: no IPv6 Routers available
while "dmesg | tail" fills with
    eth0: no IPv6 routers present
    eth0: no IPv6 routers present
    eth0: no IPv6 routers present
My rc.conf has the correct settings for dhcp:
    interface=eth0
    address=
    netmask=
    broadcast=
    gateway=
I can get whatever 64-bit packages I need to get the internet to work in 64-bit linux by downloading them in 32-bit linux and then upgrading to 64-bit linux.
My goal is to get networking to work on 64-bit linux through either eth0 or wlan0 (eventually I'll need wlan0 but right now neither works, so if one starts working, the other probably will), or for someone to say "It's impossible dude, go download opensuse and see if you get a different damning error over there".
    Happy trails,
    jc

    Yep.
Are you sharing /etc between the 32 and 64 bit kernels?
Yes.  Networking doesn't work on the 64-bit install disk either though, which obviously doesn't share its /etc with anything.
Can you post your 64 bit system's /etc/dhcpcd.conf file?
    hostname
    option domain_name_servers, domain_name, domain_search, host_name
    option classless_static_routes

What is the version of your 32 bit kernel?
    3.3.8
Have you tried dhclient instead of dhcpcd ?
    I have.  No cake.

  • [SOLVED] Can't find root partition after upgrade

After upgrading to Linux 3.6.6, the boot fails with something like "can't find root, UUID=..." and I get a root shell. Choosing to recovery mode in GRUB doesn't make a difference.
I don't have any sda devices in /dev.
    /proc/partitions is empty.
    I have Macbook Pro 7,1.
    Ubuntu on other partition works.
Any idea how to fix this?

I don't use these either ... but this does sound like a very plausible cause of this error.  Are you sure you aren't using either?
In any case, it's easy enough to add them back and see if that solves this.  Boot into live media, chroot, add back the modules to mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild the initramfs.  If nothing else this would verify that these are not the problem.

  • [SOLVED] Can't connect to internet after installation

Hello, I just installed Arch, and during the installation I connected to wifi (obviously, since I had to download the packages) with iwconfig and all the other tools on the installer, but after the installation I wasn't connected any more. I have no idea how to connect to the internet now, all the guides online say to run iwconfig or any of the other connection tools, which I can't do since I don't HAVE them.
I can't connect through ethernet either, I think either the ethernet port on my laptop is broken, or the drivers just aren't working (apparently people on the forums have the same problem with my chipset). My friend told me to try sudo wifi-menu, but apparently I need to install dialog for that, which, of course, requires internet connection.
Should I plug in the USB again, and try something with that? Is there any way to set up a wifi connection without using all the fancy connection tools that I don't have? Sorry if I'm being dumb, I have absolutely no idea how to connect. The wiki doesn't help, and neither does google.

I think with the last few times I've done an ArchLinux installation, I've literally set-up the whole thing (as in done base, base-devel, networkmanager, X and a DE) in the Arch LiveCD. LightDM isn't happy being set-up in the LiveCD environment though I've noticed.
For this, I use pacstrap for base and base-devel and then pacman for the rest.

  • Can't connect to internet after upgrading to 9.2 in windows7

After upgrading to itunes9.2, internet connectivity is lost. I must do a system restore to recover. I get an ip stack error of some kind. I would stay in itunes9.1 except that I have an Iphone 4 coming. any suggestions?

Fingers crossed, the Apple Engineers are getting closer to working out what the underlying issue is.
Good gracious. After checking my inbox further, I see Roy has posted a query over in the main thread on the issue:
Does anyone affected by this issue have Audials software installed? Some of the software packages are: AudialsOne, Radiotracker, Tunebite, Mediaraptor, and AudialsMobile.
Apologies for the nosy question, mikey, but do you have any of that software install on the PC in question?

  • Can't connect to internet after upgrading to leopard

Can someone please HELP ME! I have a ibook g4 and I recently upgraded from tiger to Leopard. My wireless internet service worked fine until I upgraded. My computer still recognizes the network i’m trying to connect to but when I try to connect, it either says “connection time out” or “connection failed.” I know it’s not a problem with the network because my husband can connect to the same network on his macbook pro and on a psp. I know the problem has something to do with leopard. If anyone has experienced this or has any possible solutions on how to fix this please help.
    Thanks in advance

Kim, I have the same problem since I upgraded to Leopard, on the wireless connection at my office. Everything still works fine at home and on campus, so it seems to have affected some wireless routers and not others.
I am still working to make the connection at work connect without the "connection failed" report, but one thing I've read is to go to your System Preferences, click on Network, select the Airport option, click on Advanced, click on the TCP/IP tab, then Configure IPv6: check to see that it's OFF. Some people have reported that this helps. Hope it does for you.

  • Can't Connect to Server after Upgrading to Lion

I upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6.8. I've ran all the updates etc, but now I cannot connect to my OS X Server (10.6.8) or any other machine for that matter. The server appears in my finder window and will allow me to connect as a guest but if I try to login by clicking connect as or by using COMMAND+K and typing the IP I get a long wait after entering my PW only to receive an error that says "There was a problem connecting to the server "pggfx01". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator. It should be noted that I have other machines that came with Lion that connect without issue and other machines still running 10.6.8 that connect flawlessly. PLEASE HELP, I've searched and searched with no succes.

I've tried that over and over again ( I had found that solution previously ) but it doesn't work. As a note I can connect as a guest to anything, just not a registered user. So when I get to the step that wants me to create an AFP connection it doesn't work. I type in my username & password and the little wheel spins like it's trying to connect and the error I mentioned above pops up after a really long time. Very frustrated with this upgrade, it has killed my productivity.

  • Can't connect to Exchange after upgrading to 3.1.3

I upgraded to 3.1.3 yesterday. I can no longer connect to my work's Exchange Server. Other people at work are still able to connect. No one else is on 3.1.3.
I have deleted my account in Settings and set it up again (lots of times).
    Amyone have any suggestions?

How to prove Exchange Account work on the iPhone.
Step 1. Sign up for a free Gmail account. http://mail.google.com/mail/signup
Step 2. On the iPhone add the Gmail account using Exchange Active Sync. iPhone>settings>Mail Contacts Calendars>add account>Microsoft Exchange>
    Then http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
    Step 3. Enter Account Info
-In the Email field, enter your full Google Account email address. If you use an @googlemail.com address, you may see an "Unable to verify certificate" warning when you proceed to the next step.
    -Leave the Domain field blank.
-Enter your full Google Account email address as the Username.
-Enter your Google Account password as the Password.
-Tap Next at the top of your screen.
-Choose Accept if the Unable to Verify Certificate dialog appears.
-When the new Server field appears, enter m.google.com.
-Press Next at the top of your screen again.
-Select the Google services you want to sync.
-Unless you want to delete all the existing Contacts and Calendars on your phone, select the Keep on my iPhone option when prompted. This will also allow you to keep syncing with your computer via iTunes.
If you want to sync only the My Contacts group, you must choose to Delete Existing Contacts during the Google Sync install when prompted. If you choose to keep existing contacts, it will sync the contents of the "All Contacts" group instead.
Step 4. Now that you have an Exchange Active Sync account does it work? If so then you have just proved that the iPhone can use Exchange Active Sync fine and that it is a setting for your own individual Exchange account that is not setup correctly. This could be you missing a setting or it being setup incorrectly. It could also be a setting on the Exchange server itself that needs looking into.
