[SOLVED]Can't edit .desktop files with Gnome 3. Application disappears

I've been trying to edit the desktop file for gimp so that I can run a custom command when it loads.
Basically I want to run GTK_MODULES= gimp instead of just straight gimp, because the global menu doesn't work well with gimp and running it in this way forces gimp to use the normal menus.
As soon as I edit the file, gimp disappears from my applications menu. If I click on the .desktop file through nautilus, it says there is a problem and it cannot run the application. I'm not sure how to open a .desktop file from the terminal, so I can't look for more specific error messages.
I tried creating a script and pointing the desktop file to that instead, and I tried using GTK_MODULES= && gimp, but both give the same problem. As soon as I click save, it becomes unusable, only fixable by reinstalling gimp.
Do you think it's possible to do what I'm wanting to do?

I just noticed that when i'm in /home/sepuku i'm able to save the files normally.But i created a directory specially for latex!
So when i cd /home/sepuku/latexprojects i can't save anything.I think that this has something to do with the permissions maybe?And how to i make my user able to copy/paste/remove /edit/create files and dirs? :S
ls -al test.tex returns:

Can I edit PDF files with PDF Pack?

can I receive an PDF file and make changes to that file with my Adobe PDF Pack. and then create attachments to this file once i have completed the changes?

Adobe PDF Pack doesn't allow you to edit a PDF file; you need the full version of Acrobat for that.

At least on both my windows 7 and windows xp machines it looks like that might be a font that an adobe program installed.
Maybe adobe reader or acrobat, but my guess is an older version of photoshop like yor photoshop 6 installed it.
I say that because the font is in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\Base\PFM folder (windows xp), although the name is not obvious (it's a postscript font as Mylenium wrote), so it may well be
a commericial font because i know they sell it at the adobe store.

Can't edit remote files with nemo/thunar/...

I've got two kinda-related problems:
1) When I browse a remote server with any file manager (Nemo, but also Thunar and PCmanfm), and when i double-click to edit/view a file, the default program always opens empty, like it was called without any arg. If i try to open it in a terminal ("vim ftp://www.website.com/index.php"), it works without problem.
2) When browsing remote servers, Nemo (and only Nemo, i don't have this bug with Thunar or PCmanfm) will try to open files with the wrong program. On local, php files are opened with Vim and jpg with Gpicview. But on a FTP, php files are opened with spacefm (!) and jpg with Gimp.
Any ideas how i could fix that ?

I suggest you make a symlink from that directory to your ~ and call it 'remote computing done properly'.
I have the suspicion that software needs to be aware they are browsing on a remote computer. They get fed with probably invalid flile path's and thus open an empty window. I think that is not good. It should be transparent like the alternative method I just gave you. Gvfs should handle all the dirty details, that is what it's for.
However it could still be bug (I HOPE!).

Help?! Can I edit MTS files with Mac OX 10.04

I have tried several times do edit MTS files in Final cut pro 6, but it does not recognise the files.
After that I tried do converte the files to AVI or MPEG-4 and still the finla cut stop, just watching the clip... Is it possible that the OX 10.4 does not suport this type of files to work on final cut pro 6??

Thanks for the information. My version does not allowed me to log and transfer the all folder from the camera.
So, if I convert the files with the clipwrap, i will be hable to import it in final cut as a file? But still, my computer gives me a message to: - turning off unlimited RT, increase the speed of the system, lowering the compression data rate and others... So I thought that this OX 10.04 version is not enought to work with this files?

I can't open .rtfd files with images. They disappear and when I send them to a PC the images are gone. How can I solve this problem? No other format works!

When I make a document and add an image and send it to a PC as .rtfd the image and the format changes and disappears. But if I send from PC to PC an .rtfd file it comes out normal. I already downloaded the Quick Word App hoping that would solve the issue but it doesn't! What can I do to share files from PC to Mac and from Mac to PC without having the file change?

So now that's two of us. Hopefully, someone has an answer.

As for AVCHD.mts and AVCHD.mp4 in camera whose specifications offer the choice of AVCHD or .MP4.....both have been reported to use a form of AVCHD video compression with different wrapper formats (.mts and .mp4). I did not discover that AVCHD.mts does not play back the audio portion of an AVCHD.mts file when played back in the Elements Organizer 13 player. That has been the reality of Premiere Elements 13/Elements Organizer 13 users who found this out by themselves later than sooner. And, I confirm their results in those cases. There is no fix for this at the present time, and that is a user to user honest non marketing report. If this Elements Organizer issue is not an important concern for you, then this is a non issue for you.

I have a similar issue with regards to the filename...
When I navigate to my website, it doesnt work unless I actually type the filename at the end of it. Example: type in "www.whitelion.com" (this is my real domain name) and it doesnt work. When I type in "www.whitelion.com/index.html" then it works.
This is obviously inconvenient because my clients will never know to add the filename to the end of the site.
Is there any setting or way to get the page to appear by just typing the original domain name without adding the extension?

unfortunately, the 2.1 developer edition you have installed
has not overwritten the original version integrated into the
symbian OS by the manufacturer. This means that the only way to
open the 2.1 files is to open the 2.1 player from your apps menuu,
and click on the swf file. You will only get direct access if the
updated player is in a firmware update for you handset.

I am happy to help. But, I need a little more information. Have you converted PDF files to Word or another format, and are unable to edit those files? Or, were you hoping to edit PDF files with Adobe PDF Pack (which is something that it can't do)?

Yes, it started with a new file. Support gave me the solution to save it to my desktop which worked. When I put it back in the original folder and opened/save it would not save to that folder. Created a new folder and was able to open & save to the new folder. That seems to be a workable solution. How a folder can become corrupt is a bit scarey.
In experimenting with solutions I received another error "failure in background task alert" and discovered CS5 problems with background task.
However the solutions for CS5 did not work in my incidence.
I sure would like to prevent this from happening again. If you have any insights please share them. Otherwise I will just accept the experience as another computer workaround and be thankful that I have it.
