[Solved] Can't remap special sleep key in Gnome 3.4

Hey,
my keyboard has a key that, by default, suspends the computer.
In gnome 3.2 I could remap that key, through gnome-control-center to hibernate instead.
I can still map it that way, but when I press it it still suspends.
Edit: Solved. If anyone has the same problem: I changed a switch with dconf-editor under org.gnome.settings-daemon.power there are several switches for buttons. Changed several from suspend to hibernate -> profit

Thanks for the replies. I don't have an xorg.conf file. I tried one (generated by Xorg -configure) in my attempts to fix the problem, but I deleted it when I didn't work.
I'm not at home right now, so I can't get the exact output from xrandr, but I know it showed that the resolution was 1024x768.
When I first installed the system I thought that I needed the xf86-video-s3 driver, but that didn't work (X just ignored it and used vesa) so after a bit of research I found that the driver I needed was xf86-video-savage, which, as you can see from the log file, it is using.
karol, I'll try your suggestion of the UseBIOS option when I get home. The problem in your link looks exactly like mine!

  • Can I remap the fn key on a Powerbook?

Extraordinarily, Apple designed the keyboard layout for laptops so that the function key (fn) is on the opposite side of the keyboard to the cursor keys. So if you want to use Home, End, PageUp, or PageDown, as most of us do, then you have to use two hands as the fn key - far left - is too far from the cursor keys - far right.
Is there a way to remap the keyboard to swap the Enter and fn keys around? I rarely use Enter, but use fn a lot as described above.
While on this subject, can I remap to get a forward delete, which I used more than backspace on a full size keyboard?

I've posted this question AFTER finding out the answer, but I'd love for other users with the same problem to know that there is a solution.
This donateware will allow some keyboard remapping - http://doublecommand.sourceforge.net/ - although I couldn't swap the Enter and fn keys, I could convert the Enter key to work as the fn key but only when used with the cursor keys (which is actually a better solution anyway).
It also allowed me to convert the backslash key to work as a forward delete.

  • Remapping special function keys

    Hello,
I have a new Penryn MacBook Pro and I like the new special function keys for Expose, Dashboard, and audio controls. However, I use the Expose "Application Windows" command far more often than the Expose "All Windows" command, which is mapped to the F3 key here. Does anyone know how I can map the F3 special function to "Application Windows" instead?
I have the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" preference disabled because I rarely use the true function keys and would like to continue using the special functions with a single keypress. Also, I know I can map the All Windows command to fn-F3, but I'd rather just press F3 if possible.
I'd prefer to do this without installing a third party extension, but I'm not opposed to editing a config file from the command line if necessary.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Arlo

Well, I haven't figured out a way to do this. I looked into DoubleCommand, but based on the screen shots I don't think it can do it (or change my right-option key back to an Enter key, which I would also like to do). And the release notes mention a lot of kernel panics, so I didn't want to deal with that. I also looked at Ukelele (sic), but its user manual explicitly states that it can't change to special function keys (and also isn't fully supported under Leopard).
What I ended up doing is changing the keyboard shortcut for Expose - Application Windows to fn-F3, and Expose - Desktop to fn-F4. So now I can access the three Expose commands and Dashboard with the F3 and F4 keys, with and without the fn. That lets me access those commands with one hand, and frees up my F8-F12 keys for the occasional Word or Flash keyboard shortcut.

  • Can I remap the EJECT key as say Shift+Eject?

I keep hitting my eject button when I type fast. Is there anyway I can remap the key as something other than just pushing the EJECT key?
I looked in Keyboard etc in Prefs, but nothing.

I can't even get mine to work, even though the process is running. I really don't see the problem in just opening up my computer and right clicking on the dvd drive and selecting eject.
You can kill the eject key process permanently by hitting start > run > type in msconfig > click on the startup tab > find the AppleEjectCD.exe and stop it > reboot and you're good to go.

  • [SOLVED] Can't see special characters in terminal

Hi, sorry for my bad English.
I installed Arch Linux around 4 days ago and I'm having problems with special characters, such as:
    á, ç, é, ã
I can type them and see what I type in bash (except when I do between "", like $echo "á", so they automatically become "??").
When I use ls, my files are also showed as "??", A??, when they should be "Á" and "Aí".
It would be normal, like a font issue, but here is the weird part:
When I use the bash auto-complete (TAB) to see files in my current directory, they are showed correctly according to the font I am using,
for example, the current font still show they wrongly, like "A??" when the file is "Aí", and when I set the font LatArCyrHeb-16, it shows "Aí".
It looks like bash-completion is the only application affected by setfont.
Sorry if my explanation is too confuse.
I can send screenshots if necessary.

I was using LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 in /etc/vconsole.conf, but I was selecting and generating pt_BR.UTF-8 in /etc/locale.gen
Now, I changed all them to "en_GB.UTF-8" and it's working fine!

I am not very familiar with keyboard configuration but '/usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/br-abnt2.map.gz' has at the beginning:
    include "qwerty-layout"
    altgr keycode 19 = registered
    altgr keycode 50 = mu
    include "linux-with-alt-and-altgr"
and '/usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/include/linux-with-alt-and-altgr.inc' has already at the beginning a line with:
    keycode 100 = AltGr
So it seems that what you want to do is already set in the br-abnt2 map file.
In the br-abnt2 map file there is this line:
keycode 89 = slash question degree
    control keycode 89 = Delete
    alt keycode 89 = Meta_slash
So it seems the slash character is already available.
You should find it somewhere on the keyboard, I think.

I presume you meant to then run makepkg, which I did, but it fails:
    [kirk@arch trunk]$ makepkg

A few days ago I started getting a notification about my Google password being expired(inside GNOME online accounts). So I went there to re-enter it but I couldn't, so I deleted the account to recreate it again.
From that point I couldn't get it to show the Google page, instead I get one of those randomly:

    - A Google page then "Error getting a Request Token: Bad Request" after I grant permission.

I tried everything without success, there's a theory though :
Google is now detecting my location and forcing me to use .dz instead of .com and even when I get the .com version(e.g. Google+) I get it in French, I think this change might have broken something.

  • Special procurement key 10 for sales plant

    Hi Expert,
We have one sales plant which normally used for trading activities but besides, sometimes we also have consignment process happen under this plant. Currently we don't maintain any value under sales procument key > MRP 2 view. My question is, can we maintain value 10=consignment as special procurement key? Is there any dependens config or data maintainance that we have to look into if this value maintained?
    Thanks/Regards,

    HI,
You can maintain the special procurement key as10 based on which system will create a consignment PR when you execute a MRP.

  • [SOLVED] Trying to remap keys in X/GDM/Gnome 3

    Hi,
I'm trying to remap my ESC key to the Caps Lock key for more convenience in Vim. I placed the following in ~/.xinitrc and ~/.xprofile:
    xmodmap ~/.keymap
I tried both files because I read in the wiki that ~/.xprofile could also be used for this purpose.
The ~/.keymap file looks like this:
! Swap caps lock and escape
    remove Lock = Caps_Lock
    keysym Caps_Lock = Escape
    add Lock = Caps_Lock
If I execute 'xmodmap ~/.keymap' in bash everything works fine. But when I (re-)start the setting is not read. I'm not quite sure if I place the command in the wrong file or if there is a problem with the commands.
I use GDM for login into Gnome 3 activated via systemctl.
    Many thanks in advance!
Last edited by pizzapill (2013-12-02 18:22:46)

That specific change to the keymap is supported by the XkbOptions.  So there is no need to actually use xmodmap here.
Have a look here.  It tells how to get Gnome to respect the XkbOptions using dconf, and interestingly, the specific example is exactly what you are looking for (caps:swapescape).
For more available options, you can check out /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst.
Edit: BTW, I know nothing about Gnome, so maybe there is a more Gnome-ish way to handle this.  But I also think that if you ever think about using something besides Gnome it would be a good idea to have this as a global setting (ie. /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf).

  • HP Pavilion Laptop; Only Special Function Keys are Working

I got my first HP laptop, a HP Pavilion 17-e049wm Notebook, refurbished a few months ago when my original quit out. Until recently, I've been more than happy with its performance. However, a few weeks ago the keyboard started acting both weird and also not working. I'll try to provide as much information as I can, and thank you in advance for your assistance!
    Circumstances before the event:
-The night before, my keyboard worked one hundred percent fine. I played some games and went to sleep with it closed and hibernating like I always have. The next morning, I took it up with me to play music as I showered. Before I'm accused of water-damaging it, my laptop was very far from shower, so no direct water contact occured, and also we shower with the door open, so there was no build up of steam or humidity that could've done it that couldn't be present in any other situation. I knew that it worked that morning, as I must have logged in to play my music. After closing it and bringing it to my car (without drops or any other jarring), I learned a few hours later that my keyboard had stopped working.
-My house doesn't have internet and I havn't recently installed anything, so it's doubtful that some kind of software did it to me.
    What the keyboard does(n't do):
-Almost every key doesn't work. The letters, esc, enter, shifts, fn, numberpad, caps lock, etc. I've tried them each, and none work.
-There are two exclusions to the above statement:
-The 'special' function keys; All of the keys that share space with my function keys work fine. So my mute, pause, change display, brightness controls, help shortcut, airplane mode, etc. work. So everything from F1 to F12 work.
-Before anyone assumes that my fn key is stuck or something, the special part is the default. On my keyboard, you hold down the fn key to do the normal fn key functions (f11 skips to the next song, fn+f11 does fullsrceen).
-Also, I'm not sure if my 'normal' functions work. I tried holding fn on this USB keyboard and then the f# keys, but the 'special' function still is the one that works. However, as I have no control, I don't know if that would have happened anyways.
-The second exception, which makes me doubt that it is a hardware problem, is that if I hold 'X' and 'C' at the same time, the brightness lowers, as if I tapped my f2 key. Each of those do nothing on their own, but when pushed together, they act identical to the f2.
-Another thing is that my ported keyboard's caps lock indicator light still shines when either the USB or on-screen's caps lock keys are used.
    What I've tried:
-Turn it off and back on
-Turn it off, take out battery, hold the power button, wait, turn on with/without battery
    -Uninstall keyboard driver, restart
    -Summoning a demon
-Tried to update driver (can't, up-to-date)
-Check status through device manager (claims that it's running fine)
I've basically tried everything I could find that seemed relatively useful from browsing the forums, but it's on my third week keyboardless, nothing works, and I'm so tired of using my girlfriends pretty, sparkling and bedazzled, purple USB keyboard from her days in middle school. If nothing works, I'll have to resort to the system resets and lose applications and my files, which would be a mad bummer yo.
Thank you again for your help, internet.

    @cbowman08 ,
Hello and thank you so much for posting on the HP support forums. Now please I am not stating you have done anything wrong in any way.  This kind of thing happens all the time.
You do not need a bunch of steam to cause an issue with water for one thing.
Inside your notebook is a huge differential in temperature zones.  If you take a notebook into a shower room even if your water is slightly above room temp there is ample moisture in the air.
Air has to travel and if your notebook was on the counter and it is between your shower and the door, any moisture in the air gets to get heated way up and then gets to cool way down and gather on the little metal bits in your notebook.
It only takes one drop of water the size of a pin head to bridge a connection and cause a short.
I hope this is not the case.  I am hoping that the connection cable for your keyboard has come loose.
So to see if this is just a loose connection instead of a bit of moisture causing the issue here is a link to your maintenance guide,
    Maintenance and Service Guide
This will show you have to get your system apart to check they keyboard connection.
As well here is a link to how to gain access to the keyboard and its connection.
HP Pavilion 17 Replace Keyboard HDD SSD Ram New Model Laptop.
Check to make sure the keyboard cable didnt just come loose.  Very easy fix.  If it is connected and nothing is loose then you are looking at a replacement keyboard or if the board did get some moisture on it from condensation then you will need to have it sent in for repair.
If that is the case you will want to contact phone support for repair options.

  • Remapping the Fn key in Windows   * a solution *

    Howdy,
If you own a Mac and you're running Windows via Boot Camp, it's likely that you've noticed that there are problems with the operation of the Fn key. Because the keyboard doesn't have a Delete key, it's extremely annoying that you can't use Fn+Backspace in order to get the Delete function.
As discussed in this thread it's possible to remap normal keys on your keyboard with a remapping tool like AutoHotKey. Unfortunately this application doesn't recognize the Fn key by default, so you're still stuck with other key combinations like Command+Backspace = Delete.
I don't use Boot Camp on my MacBook, but I do have a PC with Windows XP. I recently purchased an Apple Wireless Keyboard, which is basically identical to my MacBook keyboard. Using it in Windows is no problem, but the Fn and Eject key both don't work. So I suppose the problem is the same for users of Windows through Boot Camp.
First I used AutoHotKey to remap Command+Backspace to Delete. But I couldn't get over the fact that there were two keys that I couldn't use. So I kept looking for a solution, and finally found one. Using a DLL file for adding support for Human Interface Devices, written by one of the AHK forum members, I was able to get a response back from my Fn and Eject key. I wrote a script that let's you alter the behavior of the Fn key, so it will act as a modifier.
At this point my Fn key is fully functional, and I mapped all the basic OS X functions so they can be used in Windows. So whether I'm using Leopard on my MacBook or Windows on my PC, everything is the same. This means:
    Fn+Backspace = Delete
    Fn+F10 = Mute/Unmute
    Fn+F11 = Volume Down
    Fn+F12 = Volume Up
Eject key ejects my drive (without or with a delay just as in OS X)
    And so forth.
Because the Fn key question is a common problem for a lot of people, I decided to write a full guide explaining every step of the way in full detail. The guide can be found right here:
Mystery of the Fn key - A guide to remapping the Fn key in Windows
The DLL used to retrieve information from the Fn and Eject key has already been used for many other purposes, and made it possible to map a lot of different keys on many different keyboards and other devices like mice and remote controls. By doing so it has proven its worth, and I'm sure that you'll be able to get your Fn key and other special keys working just fine. Whether it's on your Mac using Boot Camp, on a PC with using a keyboard with special hotkeys or on a PC notebook. The guide is based on remapping my Apple Wireless Keyboard, so at least I'm sure that it'll work for Apple keyboards.
Feedback on my guide and script and whether you succeeded remapping your Fn and Eject key is much appreciated.
    Good luck!

Well I tried but none of the settings recognized Fn nor Eject on my MBP (penryn w/ OSX and Vista). I even ran through dozens of possible Usage/Page combinations. My other keys were recognized and so what my mouse/trackpad. But not Fn and Eject.
As you state in the write-up "If your key isn't recognized by one of the devices and their settings as listed in the application, it's unfortunately not likely that you'll get your key to work."
Thanks anyway. I really thought I found the answer in this thread...
    oh well.

  • How to 'fix' an special procument key according to sales order type ?

    Hi Gurus,
I need some help to solve an issue: how to "force" MRP to use a special procurement key (SOBLS) when the demand was originated by sales order type = "XYZ".
    Limits:
    - this is a MTO scenario, so MRP area is not an option (as far as I know)
    - due to the huge quantity of materials we cannot consider create new materials.
    Scenario:
    1. 'Plant A' and 'Plant B' can produce material 'AAAA'
    2. Only 'Plant A' is allowed to invoice.
    3. Material 'AAAA' produced in 'Plant A' cannot be sold, they will be used as components to other materials.
    4. Any external demand (sales) of material 'AAAA' must be handle by 'Plant B'.
In other words: If a sales document (order type 'XYZ') ordering 10 units of material 'AAAA' is posted, my MRP (on plant 'A') must undestand that a purchase requisition (stock transfer, special procurement key 'Z1') needs to be created. All other demands will create Planned Orders (to be converted to Production Orders).
    I already tried to evaluate BADIS: MD_CHANGE_MRP_DATA, MD_ADD_ELEMENTS, MD_MODIFY_SOURCE, MD_PLDORD_CHANGE and MD_MRP_PARAMETERS ... with little success.
    Any clue will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jone.

    - "material AAAA" is a spare part and, also, an item BOM of "FG 1010"
    Lets imagine that:
    - "material AAAA" has MARC-BESKZ = 'E', MARC-SOBSL = '' and MARC-SBDKZ = '1' in both Plants,
    - no stock is avaliable,
    - there is a MTO Production Order of 'FG 1010' is demmanding 3 units of "material AAAA",
    - there is a sales order (spare parts) is requesting 7 units of "material AAAA".
After a full MRP running (with RM61X-BANER=3), we would like to have:
    Plant A:
Sales order segment 1 (MTO from 'FG 1010'):
    - Planned order of 3 units
Sales order segment 2 (Spare parts sales Order):
    - Purchase Requisition of 7 units.
    Plant B:
Sales order segment 2 (Spare parts sales Order):
    - Purchase Requisition of -7 units.
    - Planned order of 7 units.
Sales org does the invoicing not the plant and you can set the delivering plant as plant B directly in the material master. But that's not feasible. Right now I would suggest you try creating (if they don't already exist) two special procurement keys first 40 and assign it in material master for plant A. Then other 52 assign it in item detail for the component in the BOM for the FG since it is MTO. For plant B not SPK is required from what you mentioned.
