Solved: Can't send mail using non AT&T server when have ATT DSL service

We recently started using a third party for our web hosting and set up a domain with our new web host. Let's call it www.XXXX.com. We have email set up as [email protected] When we set up our Mail on our Mac using XXXX.com we could receive mail but not send it. After a ton of investigations and hours with ATT support we were told we were going to have to subscribe to ATT email hosting.
I did more research and found that ATT (and other ISPs) block outgoing email ports to not allow you to use other outgoing servers. This is to stop spam bots.
To fix this I logged into ATT/Yahoo email using our base DSL account (i.e. [email protected]). From there I went into the email options and added [email protected] as an account. When I did this, ATT/Yahoo sent to us a verification email and we verified the code that was in the email. This verified that our XXXX.com was legitimate and that we did want to use this as an outgoing email account. That fixed it and our Mac mail is now being sent via our [email protected] email address.
Hope this may solve problems others may have when they set up their Mail and can send but not receive email.

I have heard that 587 must be SSL but I have 3 accounts using that port and SSL is not selected.
Do you know what would cause the sending to be slow or intermittent? Yesterday one time it actually sent one of my tests that has been in cue. Since then It will not send. It just spins for a minute then gives me a message that I need to check settings or use another SMPT.

  • [Solved] Can't send mails using mutt's native smtp support

I read the wiki and interested in mutt's native smtp support, so I installed extra/cyrus-sasl and decided to give it a try.
After search the online manual of muttrc, I add a few lines to my ~/.muttrc as follows:
    set my_pass='mysecretpass'
    set my_user=[email protected]
    set smtp_authenticators="digest-md5:cram-md5"
    set smtp_url=smtps://$my_user:$[email protected]
Everything looks fine, until I sent a test mail. The mutt's status bar is always showing "sending message ..." for a long time, but nothing is sent. I felt frustrated.
Can anyone give me a suggestion?  So much thanks.
    =======
Edit: The problem resulted from improper options in muttrc, which I've commented. Because I'm using the native IMAP support of mutt, some original options have to be commented, such as:
    #set postponed=+drafts
    #set record=+sent
    P.S.
The SMTP port of Google is 587, while the SMTPS port is 465. It's not necessary  to set this port manually.

try adding a :587 on the end of the url.  i'm also not sure you even need /cyrus-sasl or the _authenticators bit.  i didn't, back before i moved to an msmtp mutt setup.

    Hi there tamarafromdarien,
You may find the troubleshooting steps for iCloud Mail in the article below helpful.
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Mail
If you can't send mail in OS X Mail
If you receive this alert or a similar alert when sending a message from your iCloud email address in OS X Mail:
“This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The reason for the failure is: An error occurred while delivering this message via the smtp server: server name.”
In OS X Mail, choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
Click Accounts in the Preferences window.
Select your iCloud account from the list of accounts.
    Click the Account Information tab.
Choose your iCloud account from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) pop-up menu. Example: “Derrick Parker (iCloud)”.
Note: The Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) menu also includes an Edit SMTP Server List command. If you choose this command, be aware that the iCloud SMTP server won't be among the servers that can be edited. This is normal.
If you're attaching a large file
Message attachments can't exceed the maximum size allowed by your email service provider or the recipient's email service provider. The maximum size varies by service provider. Try compressing the filebefore sending it, or send your message without the attachment to verify that there are no issues with sending.

There are three Exchange portlets available for use with Portal 3.0.8.9.8 (inbox, calendar, contacts). They will be downloadable from the new Oracle9iAS Portal Partner Catalog which will be up at the end of March. If you wish to use these portlets before then, send me an email request and I will give them to you.

    Hi
You need to check with your ISP whether or not the send mail server (SMTP) requires a password.  Some do, but many do not.  When you know the correct password to send mail, then you need to tell Mail as follows:
Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) combo box, and select Edit SMTP Server List...
In the Account Information tab put the server name
In the Advanced Tab, set up the authentication information from your ISP.
    Good luck

  • Can't send mail using webmail on Mac OS X Server 10.4

Could someone help me figure out why I can't send email via webmail on Mac Mac OS X Server 10.4. I tried in and out of my LAN but it will not work. I am pretty sure that it's no firewall issue because it won't even work inside the LAN. Another thing I have considered is DNS issues. But my SMTP and POP3 works fine. Don't they use same DNS mail exchange record. Or should I ask my ISP to create a new record for webmail?

Hi, it seems like I can receive mail but I get the following error message when I try to send mail:
Cannot send message using the server (null)
The server response was: 5.7.0 From address is not one of your address
I did set up the account information for outgoing mail server (smtp): smtp.gmail.com: username
    CAn anyone help me?

Hi, did you set up according to these Standard instructions:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13287
    Especially the...
Please note that if your client does not support SMTP authentication, you won't be able to send mail through your client using your Gmail address.
Also, if you're having trouble sending mail but you've confirmed that encyrption is active for SMTP in your mail client, try to configure your SMTP server on a different port: 465 or 587.

  • Can't send mail using - all send mail servers offline

I am not able to send any mail.  I've got many SMTP servers and have tried them all.  none send and I don't get an error.  Have rebooted and read in discussions and find no solution.   OS X 10.9.2   Finding myself concerned that Apple's QA/QC is lacking.. not what it once one.  Seeing increasing instability in general in core OS X apps.

Mail is a bit weird sometimes...
Does your network/ISP allow SMTP traffic?
Have you linked each SMTP server to the correct mail account?
Have you selected "Use only this server" ?
Have you checked the port number being used?
What are the mail providers are you using?

  • After updating to OS5, my iphone 4 can not send mail using wi fi and 3G.. only 1 or the other. It will not switch servers from using ATT 3G server to then using WiFi

I have called my internet provider, my email server company and AT&T. All my settings are fine and everything was fine before the OS5 upgrade. I can send email using WiFi when I have my email host as the outgoing server and can send email 3G using ATT server only when on 3G. The phone is not switching back and forth servers from wi fi connection to 3G.

    Hey there Jachin W.,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to your home Wi-Fi suddenly on 2 different iOS devices. I would be interested to know if the affected phones are able to connect to a different Wi-Fi connection, but barring that I would use the following article to help troubleshoot the devices and the Wi-Fi connection:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
And this section from toward the bottom if needed:
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling
