[SOLVED] Can't suspend... (P9X79 Deluxe & i7-3820)

I have a p9x79 deluxe M/B with an i7 3820.
When i suspend either as root or from gnome 3, and then wake up i just get a blank screen...
I have no SWAP partition (I already have 4 partitions on my disk)
I turned of Intel speedstep and tried some solutions from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils, but nothing worked...
any ideas?
Thank you!!

  • How many times can I suspend (without billing) my service?

I know I can suspend it twice for at most 90 days each time. I'm wondering though whether it is possible to suspend it more than twice in a year as long as it's not for more than 180 days overall.
Since I have a smartphone and I'm on the more everything family plan, suspending without billing means that the bill will be 40 dollars less/month, right?
    Thanks!

hybridhoneylp we'll make sure that everything is crystal clear! You're right on track, the maximum amount the line can be suspended without billing is 180 days within a 12 month rolling period. So you can suspend the line multiple time as long as the time frame does not extend beyond the 180 days. Suspending without billing will stop the monthly charges and the time the line is suspended will be added to the end of the contract. For all the details, please visit http://vz.to/1kuSN3C

  • How can I suspend an App instalation

How can I suspend an App's instalation  in my Ipad 2 that doesn't respond, I was installing an App, in the Ipad appeared a grey Icon named Waiting (esperando) and the App screen said Installing, but the process never ends.
I have rebooted the Ipad several times but the instalation continues freezed
    What can I do???
    Thanks
    Pedro

Apps stuck in waiting or won't download
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • [Solved]Unable to suspend

    Hi i have this situation:
i can suspend in ubuntu 8.10 with fglrx and in fedora 11 with vesa driver
i can't suspend in anythyng that uses free ati driver, i tried arch with xorg 1.5 and 1.6 and free drivers, ubuntu 9.04, mandriva 2008.1
My conclusion is that the free xf86-vide-ati is the main problem.
The laptop suspends but when it resumes it stays black and i can't get in tty1 or use ctrl+alt+del, i had to force a reboot.
Is it posible to fix this?
I downgraded to xorg 1.5 but catalyst-old from AUR requiers kernel 2.6.29 so i have to downgrade the kernel too but this mean to build my own modules for virtualbox and other programs that use kernel modules.
It would be nice to find a better way.
    Thx
    my video card
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RC410 [Radeon Xpress 200M]
and i have a suspend log but not a resume log, in the suspend log i get a Suspend succesfull or something, no errors
I downgraded to kernel 2.6.29  and i installed catalys-old from AUR, i can suspend but i gel  under 300 FPS

I tried the s2ram and it didn't know my machine, same result as normal resume it hangs. I read there that are more trikc to try but i do not have the time now(exams) to try those combination. I hoped that other Archers with ATI cards have had this problem and can point me in the right direction.

  • [solved] can't turn computer off

    hello!
yesterday I wanted to turn compiz on so i typed:
    # compiz --replace
then the display gone a bit bad: I didn't have windows titles and all windows was in a bunch so I couldnt get to them.
    then I typed:
    # metacity --replace
and then the desktop retuned to look normally. (then I did some things with metacity and I got some error messages, but I dont remember what they was).
now when I type "metacity --replace" I got another error message:
    # metacity --replace
    No protocol specified
Window manager error: Unable to open X display :0.0
what it means and what should i do with it? (the desktop environment looks normally)
however, and that is the real problem, I can't suspend/hibernate/restart/shut down the computer. when I try to, it shows me weird black screen so I have to force the computer to turn off by pressing on the power button, and when I go to the computer after some time I see that it completely turned on... (all that functions worked until yesterday)
    what can I do?
I use arch with gnome on toshiba laptop.
    10x anyway.
    ariel.

well it seems that's not a hardware problem (feww.. )
because when I turn the computer off as narada wrote:
Shutdown without X: sudo init 0
    it does not turn on
then it something in the definitions.
I want to find the problem by doing boot log. so I tried to do what T-Dawg wrote in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 88#p113288:
    T-Dawg wrote:
if your talking about the messages that appear after the Arch Wombat message but before the daemons load try renaming /etc/rc.sysinit to /etc/rc.sysinit2 and create a new /etc/rc.sysinit file with the same permissions as the original. In this file put:
    #!/bin/bash
    /etc/rc.sysinit2 2>somefile
that will echo standard error into somefile. If that doesn't give you the errors replace the 2 with & and both standard out and standard error will be logged into that file.
Make sure that new file is executable.
but I cant because it tells me that the filesystem is read-only.
how can I do a boot log?
is it ok to create /etc/rc.sysinit that will be look like:
    #!/bin/bash
    mount /dev/sda5 / -o rw
    /etc/rc.sysinit2 2>somefile
    or it might cause problems?

  • [SOLVED] HAL doesn't work, so I can't suspend/hibernate?

I've placed (atleast what I think) to be the necessary daemons in rc.conf:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus md fam hal alsa network netfs crond)
    FAM for XFCE..
When I run the suspend command, it states
"Failed to suspend: Suspend and hibernate are only supported by HAL and is not available."
    #sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start:
:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer               [FAIL]
This happens in root, and when I attempt to start and stop it....
It took endless configurations to get ndiswrapper to work, I've changed only but files required for network, why could hal not work? I can't find much online about how to fix it, and what steps there are if it fails to restart..

Try putting the network and netfs daemons before fam and hal.
    Something like this:

    Hope it helps!
I tried this and it..sorta works, restarting HAL:
    [me@myhost ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/hal restart
:: Stopping Hardware Abstraction Layer [DONE]
:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer [DONE]
    (DONE instead of FAIL)
But going to suspend/hibernate it says HAL is not available still! I seem to not be able to set it up so well..
It says I already have pm-utils, but I ahead and installed that anyway (assuming mine wasn't dev release).
    I can suspend with
    $ sudo pm-suspend
But when I resume video doesn't start, my screen is black (not displaying black, more like off).. I'm on a laptop with an intel X3000 graphics chip, not a PC in case that helps.
    Help

I don't think it was getting logged like you think.

The 'group/' is not in the snippet you provided.  It must have been generated by some other part of your script.

  • [Solved] Can't remap special sleep key in Gnome 3.4

    Hey,
my keyboard has a key that, by default, suspends the computer.
In gnome 3.2 I could remap that key, through gnome-control-center to hibernate instead.
I can still map it that way, but when I press it it still suspends.
Edit: Solved. If anyone has the same problem: I changed a switch with dconf-editor under org.gnome.settings-daemon.power there are several switches for buttons. Changed several from suspend to hibernate -> profit

Thanks for the replies. I don't have an xorg.conf file. I tried one (generated by Xorg -configure) in my attempts to fix the problem, but I deleted it when I didn't work.
I'm not at home right now, so I can't get the exact output from xrandr, but I know it showed that the resolution was 1024x768.
When I first installed the system I thought that I needed the xf86-video-s3 driver, but that didn't work (X just ignored it and used vesa) so after a bit of research I found that the driver I needed was xf86-video-savage, which, as you can see from the log file, it is using.
karol, I'll try your suggestion of the UseBIOS option when I get home. The problem in your link looks exactly like mine!

  • [SOLVED] can't access to /dev/ devices without superuser, using udev

    Hello archers
Ive recently changed my distro from lubuntu to Arch64. In the way i've read many articles about trying to solve your problems in the wiki and such, the thing is, i made it this far without human help (exept some small talk with a friend) and i have encountered a mayor problem wich i can't solve by my own, i've been walking arround in circles and can't manage to get it working properly
    $ uname -a

    what i want to do:
    - start PC
    - insert pendrive/CD/DVD
    - system will automatically mount the storage device
    - be able to access it from PCmanFM (wich i've installed) without being r00t or superuser
    - be able to unmount the storage device with a right click and "remove device" or such...
    what i can do:
    - insert a CD/DVD/USB-PENDRIVE and look at right column of PCmanFM to see it mounted (system will automatically mount the storage device)
    - access the CD/DVD/USB-PENDRIVE files only if i use "sudo pcmanfm" and enter password first
    - unmount only being a superuser or r00t
i hope i made myself clear. I've tryed to follow the wiki about udev and PCmanFM automount as regular user but if i add
    exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch openbox-session
to my .xinitrc or to my slim.conf i get an error from SLiM that doesn't let me log in "slim failed to execute login command".
The only way that i can start openbox is by removing ck-launch-session of .xinitrc and/or slim.conf
i will post my confs in order to help others to understand what's happening what i don't for lack of experience and knowledge

any ideas, what the means, why this is?

    Hello,
    You can use kdmconfig.
Let me know if it solved your issue. I have the same problem with solaris 10 b72... JDS cannot be loaded, and I come back to the login screen. But no problem with CDE.

  • [Solved] - Can't Log In After Upgrade

Just upgraded and now can't log in. System hangs at 'Reached target Graphical Interace.'
When I go to tty2 and try to log in, I get 'Log incorrect' error message when trying to log in as normal user or root.
Re-booted to runlevel 3 and tried to su to normal user. Get 'su: module is unknown' error.
Checked slim logs and see 'pam_setcred(): module is unknown' error.
    Have re-installed pam and pambase.
Still can't log in. Appears to be a pam problem, but after many searches, can't find solution. Any ideas?
Update: I re-installed libgssglue package and that solved the problem. Not certain why that wasn't updated during the pacman -Su command, but I can now log into my system and everything is normal.

    Hello,
If you are using SSH, I suspect you are hitting bug ID CSCuc03438:
The first SSH login password will always fail
    Symptom:
The first SSH login password will  fail.
    Conditions:
This issue only applies to SSH logins  on MDS 9100 and 9200 platforms. This includes CLI and SNMP  logins.
    Further Information:
Upgrading to defective code will  break working applications such as TACACS or  scripts.
    Workaround:
    Use Telnet
The fix will be in 5.2.6b expected to be available within the next two weeks.
    Best regards,
    Jim
