This news sounds quite scary to me. The big question is if anything I do can brick my computer.
Does doing this on kernels < 3.17.2 brick my computer?
Will upgrading to 3.17.2 without doing this brick my computer?

Hi,
I have a rather silly question. I can't figure out if I have Intel microcode updates enabled. I have installed the intel-ucode package from [extra] (extra/intel-ucode 20140624-1), and I get this when I check dmesg:

My question is, did the microcode update work? And should I add it to mkinitcpio to trigger it early? (sudo modprobe microcode doesn't change the output above).

  • "Please connect to the internet-"problem solved by the latest Muse-update

    Hi staff,
I'm happy to tell you that the former problem with the error message "Please connect to the internet…" when trying to start Muse is solved now by the latest update. At that time I talked to James Boag, he assumed Muse might not recognize my USB-modem (and I should try a different access point, which I didn't) but this is not an issue any more. When I launched Muse recently, it updated automatically and then started with no problems.
Thanks for the great work you've done in that matter.
    Regards
    Norbert

    Hi arrakis13,
I’m afraid I cannot really help you.
I did not make any changes on my running system except that I’m on 10.8 Mountain Lion (upgraded from 10.6.8., no Lion in between), but this did not change the behavior of Muse at first. Only the update, which started automatically when I launched the app on August, 21, (still the trial version) caused the difference.
My firewall is on and in the firewall-options Muse has allowance for incoming connections, see the attached screenshot (sorry, in german, but you will understand the meaning). Airport is not active and I did not change my way to connect to the internet (as James Boag from Adobe suggested earlier, see also attached mailing). It just worked.
Meanwhile I upgraded to the official version (2.0.945) and still it works.
    Hope you find a solution.
    Regards
    Norbert

This is still happening for me.  I downloaded the beta yesterday and am on 10.7.  I run software update but Muse is not showing up as having an update.  My firewall is not running.  Any suggestions on how I can get this running would be much appreciated.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks!!

    Hi sahgin,
The issue eventually resolved itself, I still don't really know why. I kept up with Windows update, and attempted downloading iTunes again from the Apple website, and it just... worked. It now works fine. I don't know why it took approximately 4 months to work, though.
I'm sorry I don't have any more helpful information. Posting here was my last resort, and clearly Apple never bothered to reply.

How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?
Check out the following & do the necessary:
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
    Try SU again.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

  • Hi wanting to b uy my parents a ipad do they need a normal computer as well or can the ipad be updated etc on its own?

wanting to buy my parents a ipad do they need a normal PC or Laptop as well or can the ipad be used without???

iPads with iOS 5 installed can be used entirely separate from a computer.  It can do updates with out iTunes and no computer is needed for it to be setup/activated.  You will be fine buying them just an iPad.

  • HT201210 Daft question I know but can the IOS 7 update be erased and an older version be restored?

Daft question maybe but can the IOS 7 software be erased and an older version put on an iphone 5??????

Apple offers no supported way to do it.  As such any other non supported ways that may exist cannot be discussed in these forums.
No that if you try any of the non supported ways you may void your warranty and forfeit any support from Apple including these forums.
Yoiu can use Google to find ways of doing this at your own risk.

  • What happened ??? I did the "there are updates for your computer" & now...

I have a macbook pro I bought 5 mos. ago.... yesterday when I went to shut down my computer I get a pop up thing that says there are updates for my computer and that I would need to restart it when I'm done or something like that... so I did it, and now...... my computer is slower, and everytime you got to load a new page, the address in the address bar has this blue highlight that scrolls from left to right as the page is slowly loading.... what happened?????

I disagree with the recommendation to try Chrome.Since the last Chrome update I am experiencing the same issues you are.I have also tried Opera which is fairly fast but extremely buggy in my experience.I have used Firefox but dislike it for the same reason I disliked IE.............toolbars!And I want to see more of the page than it displays. My Dad swears by Safari but I find the interface to be less user friendly than either Chrome or Opera.I must confess that I have all 4 of these browsers on my late-2008 MBP and use each one in different situations based on my needs at the time.Try them all and decide which is right for you.The best choices are made with hands-on experience.

    Why not do it yourself...
The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • Can the specific changes/updates made to a customer be captured with the detail of changes?

One of our 11i Customer placed the below requirement:
We are creating a report that will extract customers that have changed or updated in Oracle. The user requested to include also the specific change made to the customer. Is there a way that we can capture what are the changes/updates made to a customer?
We understand that the last update date and updated by could be tracked. But, is it possible to find what change was done in which field?
    Gurus, kindly respond.

This will only tell you if the user you're interested in was the most recent person to update that table, but not what they did, and if they were not the most recent, then all trace will be gone.
Have you considered enabling auditing? It's not going to provide details of anything which has already happened, but it keeps fairly detailed records, but at the cost of a large performance hit.

  • IPhone, Mac and a PC... Can the share and update a Calendar?

I'm hoping you all can help me with a need that I have...
I just got an iphone and would like to get my appointments in sync. the workflow would be this.
I would update my work calendar from my Mac or iphone... That is the easy part. The hard part would be is that I would like for my office assistant to be able to subscribe to that cal on her PC and be able to add appointments to that work cal as well.
Can this be done? If so how? Thanks in advance for your replies
    Dual G5 2.5Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Subscribed iCal calendars are read-only objects and cannot be modified.
Were it not for the PC platform, you could resolve the cross-user synchronization of read-writable shared calendars and contact records with SyncTogether™ from Mark/Space.
There are other possibilities, including the use of Google calendars and SpanningSync or using GroupCal to share Exchange calendars, but these seem rather clumsy.
You may simply have to wait for the release of Mac OS X 10.5 in September to achieve this. You can take a look at pre-release descriptions of the next release of iCal to get an idea of how CalDAV will make this all possible.

  • Can the index be updated dynamically when library is pointing to a server

I need you to find out if the index can be updated dynamically when the library is pointing to a server folder on a network XRaid?
If so what are the steps to do this.
If not is there a work around?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

It is possible to set up a "hot folder" that works with Aperture... the hot folder is an Automator script that you run. Ordinarily this is used for tethered shooting but you could use it like this... and then move the photos from the project bound to the "hot folder."
    So something like this:

I want to upgrade my iPod touch to iOS 7 cause most of my apps are iOS 7 but the system is iOS 6.1.3

As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • How do I uninstall the firefox 16 update from my computer? it won't allow my antivirus to scan for viruses and spyware!!

when I installed this update it said that it was not compatible with my Norton toolbar, which I didn't think would be a problem. now I've got malware ads popping up on different websites and when I scan my computer for viruses/spyware, it always says there is no risks. I find that hard to believe. I just want to uninstall the last update (Firefox 16).

You posted here with Firefox 17.0.1.
Try running a Norton Live Update so Norton can update their Firefox add-on and get that Toolbar working again.
That said, Norton doesn't do anything about Malware. You need a Malware application to locate and remove Malware.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''
