[SOLVED] Cannot browse by hostname - only by IP Address (!)

Hi all,
I have successfully got ALARM running on the previously largely useless GoFlex Home. (It took a while, as the original install didn't work on large partitions, but was successful once the amended recommended partition size was used.)
I've set up a SAMBA share on the SATA Boot disk, and additionally mounted my terabyte USB media drive (so largely fulfilling my needs of extending my media library).
What's puzzling me is that I can only browse by IP Address (192.168.10.2) and although I've assigned it a Static IP address that's work, it won't let me access it by Host Name (default = ALARM).
I can ping/resolve by hostname (Netbios or FQDN), have entered into the local DNS server, and it appears on the Network scanner, NET VIEW and Windows Explorer. However, if I try and access it, it says "\\ALARM is not accessible". Same result on two Win 7 PCs. (One HAD credentials for the device, the other didn't)
However, I just tried another Win 7 PC (the wife's Laptop) and IT can access the thing by name OK!! (It's not in the Domain, the others are, maybe that's the issue?)

OK, solved it myself. (After giving myself the "Domain" clue.)
In the earlier (1Gb Flash drive) scenario, I'd tried to do Kerberos Authentication, which entailed changing the Local Security policies.
This, however, on a Standard (no security) SAMBA setup, caused the authentication problem. Following the following Support article, and then waiting for propogation (GPUpdate /force never really does what you need at workstation level) cleared it all up...

[Solved] Cannot browse youtube with firefox?

I noticed this last night, and it is still not working this morning (could very well be something that was changed on youtube's side of things that isn't compatible with Firefox, since it works with Chrome). Anyway, if I'm watching a video on youtube, and I click another video from the suggested videos / sidebar the page will load (within youtube's frame — red progress bar along the top of the page, and the title / comments will change), however, the previous video will still be playing and the new one will not load until I refresh the page.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Is it a new youtube "feature" or is some configuration incorrect on my side of things? Thanks.

hahaha I have no idea, I've tried disabling adobe-flash from within firefox, but not removing it from my system. But then I just get the "you don't have flash installed" error. I've also tried disabling my adblocker, but I really don't have many FF extensions installed. I have to run to class in a few minutes, so I'm hoping someone else has had this issue and will come along.

Cannot browse Netflix, only can see instant queue.

When I open Netflix on Apple TV2 I no longer can see "Suggestions for You", "Browse", "Movies"...etc. I can see instant queue, and logout. I restarted and get same results. Anyone else?

I've had similar issues with the Macs on my network (including the Mini on the TV); I generally cannot browse the streaming catalog with images and lose various levels of connects to Netflix CDNs (I usually lose all images of titles, in most cases cannot access the stream, in some cases can access the streams). This appears in my case to be a Mac specific issue (Windows machines, iPad, iPhone -- even Ubuntu, though it can't stream, can browse the library and get images from the Netflix CDN). Unitl today, a router reboot, clearing all caches and cookies, and some screaming would seem to get it working again ... Netflix (via phone) told me to contact Apple; their support script for Safari isn't even for 5.1 ... ugh ...

They will only be where you put them If you are doing the very basics, then they will be on your computer and they will be in your backup copy of your computer.
The itunes store is not global at all, never has been. You cannot redownload your content from another country. You can only use the countrys itunes store for the country that you are physically located.

ITunes 7 cannot browse album covers on this computer error and crash

Installed iTunes 7 yesterday, and now every time I try to go to certain pages in the iTunes store, such as movies or tv shows, I get an error saying "iTunes cannot browse album covers on this computer". Then iTunes immediately crashes. Has anyone else had this problem? Any fix??

I have the same issue. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I was on the Cover Flow View and it was working fine. I clicked on the full screen icon and the entire screen went random (meaning totally random pixels of color all over). I pressed the escape key and the normal screen returned, but it only showed a black section where the covers had previously been. I restarted iTunes and it started giving me the same message. I also can see them in the lower left and on the Album View. Just the Cover Flow view doesn't work. I downloaded the latest iTunes today and I keep all of the Windows updates on.

Cannot browse through bookstore by title

I cannot browse through the bookstore by book title. I only see an author list, which is not really usefull. Untl now, I haven't found a function how to switch between author and title view.
I own a iPhone 4S with the latest iOS version. On my iPad I can browse by title.

Just to update, don't know for what reason now I'm able to access the internet thru proxy after establish the VPN connection to my office.
I did not change any setting at all and suddenly able to access thru proxy but I just can't ping the proxy server ip, the rest server ip I'm able to ping...strange...

Cannot browse other time machine backups

I cannot browse other time machine backups on my time capsule. I hold down the option key and select "browse other time machine backups in the menu bar icon and I see no backups. Then I mount the time machine backup disk and I only see the the backup for the machine that I am using to do this. However, there are backups for two machines on that disk. One is called "outis" and the other "phaedrus". On the phaedrus machine, outis is not browseable and on the outis machine, phaedrus is not visible.
I set up a test account and the test account could only browse the backup for that machine and not the other.
How can I see all of the backups?

I just checked and it works the same way for me so I guess not. you need to mount the other sparse bundle first before you can browse it.
That is to say, both backups are visible.
Should I now revert to disk password in the AP utility?
you can try and see what happens. the above method should work then too.

Cannot browse dimension members of a cube in Dashboard Designer

I have a very frustrating problem. I'm trying to make some very basic BI Dashboards on SharePoint 2013 using Dashboard Designer.
I have a cube that I've created in on SQL Server 2012 using BIDS. It builds/deploys/processes just fine and I can browse it in BIDS. When I add a new Data Connection in Dashboard Designer, I can connect to the cube using Secure Store and everything looks
hunky-dory.
However, when I go to set the Time dimension, I run into an issue. I can pick my Time Dimension, but cannot browse the members to select a date. I get a pop error that says "Invalid parameters when querying for the child members of a member or dimension
dashboard designer data connection time." If I ignore the Time dimension and just try to make a basic Analytic Grid, I can't even see my dimensions or measures.
I'm working with SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012. I've already install the SQL Server 2008 R2 AMO dll on the SharePoint server.
Any advice, or even where to look for what the problem might be, would be great, thanks.

I receive this error message:
DPM cannot browse the contents of the virtual machine on the protected computer [computername]. Item level recovery is not supported in the following scenarios.
1. The VHD contains a dynamic disk inside the guest OS.2. The VHD has no volume.
3. HyperV role is not installed on DPM server.
4. Automatic mounting of volumes is disabled on the DPM server.
1) Try enabling automatic mounting of volumes using mountvol on the DPM server to perform item level recovery
2) Otherwise perform a full restore of the virtual machine.

One of our protected Hyper-V guest systems backup suddenly refuses to browse the content of the VHD file. The system has 2 VHDs. One for the operating system and one for the data. The OS VHD has no problem with content browsing only the data VHDX started
this error after the installation of september update. I already checked the status that was suggested (1. the vhd contains a dynamic disk... etc. ) and everything is well configured. I have no free space to make a full recovery cause it's 6TB of data.

Cannot Browse - iPhone Personal Hotspot via BT

I've already posted this question in the MBA community as I wasn't sure if this is a hardware or software issue but some additional testing has me thinking it's the latter.
You can see the original post and all the gory details here but essentially I am having problems browsing the web when I connect to my iPhone 3GS' personal hotspot via Bluetooth.
Somewhat coincidentally, the issues only started happening since I updated the respective OSs to 10.7.2 (from 10.7.1) and 5 respectively - before then I had no problems using my MBA with my iPhone.
Using my 1st gen iPad to make the same connection works perfectly and oddly enough if I connect the MBA to the iPhone's network having first connected the iPad (whilst the iPad is still connectied), I can browse fine on the MBA.
Disconnecting the iPad from the network I can still browse OK but when I disconnect and reconnect just the MBA, I am back to the original problem and cannot browse.
FYI, browsing on the MBA via wi-fi works OK.

It is connected - see screen shot below. Just to be clear, the problem is that I am unable browse the web whilst my MBA is connected to my iPhone's network via BT.

You're right. It wasn't QuickTime itself. I solved all the problems myself.
The main reason why QuickTime files weren't working was because the newest audio driver from Creative released July 2007 (using their autoupdate) is apparently for Windows Vista (it has the name Vista in the update title). Why that update showed up on my Windows XP Pro system, I have no idea. So, I went to Creative's site and got the driver before the latest release, and all works well.
The Microsoft update (from June 2007, I noticed today, not July) is another issue. It's based around the file P17RunE.dll, which is something from Microsoft for the SoundBlaster. Not sure what it does, but I don't need it.
Sorry for wasting all your time on a non QuickTime issue, but thanks for the help.

How to browse without 3G, only E?

After recent update on iPhone5, can't browse internet with only E. Once cellular data is on, 3G is automatically on.
How to overcome that cos 3G uses more battery and the iPhone5 heats up alot faster??

Not sure why they would tell you that. Didn't notice that you were referring to an iPhone 5. An iPhone 5's highest GSM/UTMS Network level is LTE. With an iPhone 4 or earlier, the highest GSM Network level was 3G. So, the Settings allows you to turn off that highest level, so the phone will default to whatever is available below that.
The 3G or LTE level does not in an of itself drain the battery, but enabling it will cause the phone to proactively search for that higher network level constantly. If it finds it, great, but if it is searching eternally, that will drain your battery. For example, where I live (I have an iPhone 4, so 3G is my highest option), 3G isn't provided by AT&T, let alone LTE. So, I have my 3G turned off, because there is no point in having my phone looking for it. It can barely find a normal signal most of the time....
But, if we are going on the highway, I turn it back on, and within 20 miles or so of my house, it picks up the 3G connection.
In the iPhone 5, the LTE network is the option. 3G or EDGE are the defaults if an LTE network cannot be found. So, maybe you are remembering "Turn Off 3G" on an iPhone 4 that you had?

I have to open firefox twice otherwise it will freeze. I can see my home page but I cannot browse. If I close it and then reopen it works fine. I have just noticed this after installing the latest version

Firefox freezes when I open it. I can see my homepage (incomplete) but I cannot browse. The cursor moves but cannot open anything. If I close and reopen firefox it works fine.

If you use Windows program to partition the Hard Drive, the Apple partition gets destroyed.
Windows does not understand it is a guest on your Mac, and throws garabge wherever it pleases.
