[Solved]Cannot install any package with pacman

Hi,
today i tried a system update via pacman -Syu and i get these error messages
Konnte Datei 'curl-7.19.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz' nicht von ftp.archlinux.org übertragen : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
so it seems that these files are not on the servers
i have already tried different mirrors even the archlinux.org one

It is fixed. You just need to be patient and wait for the mirrors to resync. As many mirrors need to resync all the repo packages, there are not enough bandwidth for all the mirrors. So it will take some time.  ftp.archlinux.org is a mirror just like the other ones. The only difference is that we are the ones in charge of it.

Thank God, everything is fixed now:
First, I deleted all these files, then i follows the following procedure
    1. For libgexiv2 file i upgraded 'xorg-server, xorg-xinit, xorg-utils, xorg-server-utils' from pacman
    # pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-utils xorg-server-utils
    2. For libraw file i upgraded 'libraw' from pacman
    # pacman -S libraw
There will be some conflicting files
After deleting some conflicting files it solves the problem and restore all the 'lib' file.

  • How to install multiple packages with pacman?

    Hi ,
I guess it's a pretty noobish question but I wonder how to install multiple packages
that have the same prefix with Pacman.
To make myself more clear, I like to install all gstreamer packages and for that I would
    like something similar to
    pacman -S gstreamer10*
Is there a command that does something like this available? Found nothing in the man pages.
Maybe some tricky stuff with pipes?

    sH wrote:Hi ibendiben,
thanks for your help, but I'm afraid, it does not work
I'm so sorry, my fault, I couln't test it, and made some big mistakes.
    This time it's working:
    pacman -S $(pacman -Ss gstreamer0.10 | sed -n 's#^\([^/]*/gstreamer0.10[^ ]*\) .*$#\1#p')

It is good to see your system working now, though I tend to frown against reinstalling the entire system. Fixing the issue though sometimes tedious and frustrating can be one of the best ways for you to learn about your system and a fresh install doesn't teach you anything (apart from learning the tools to install Arch better I guess..). Which in your case, some knowledge is much needed seeming that you were executing commands without even knowing what they even do...
Gummiboot is just a bootloader and shouldn't effect any of the libraries listed in your first post so it is still unknown why this issue has happened. You didn't even mention anything you did previous to your error nor posted any logs so no one could help you properly.
Anyhow if you feel your problem Is fixed, It would be great if you marked the thread as solved.
It's alright I wanted to change the partition order anyway.
nevertheless next time I will be sure to look into the problem further.

I have an iPod Touch which I've had for almost 4 years, with 32 GB of memory. I am unable to update it, and consequently cannot install any newer apps. I am very disappointed that I spent a lot of $$; now Apple wants me to spend $$ again to get a new one. As I mentioned, I am pretty upset. Does anyone know if there's a work around?

    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • Searching package with pacman ?

    Hi,
Question : How can I search the repository of pacman with some keyword : exemple : *fire*
    The reason :
I'm trying to get started by installing fluxbox and firefox. While fluxbox can be installed with "pacman -Sy fluxbox", I cannot do the same for firefox. I tried finding the command to search the repositiory for any package with *fire* but failed.
Any good tips on how to find package without having to use a browser to download a file ?

o_O You really want to print out the pacman manual.. i think.
You can print it out like this:
    /bin/gunzip -c '/usr/man/man8/pacman.8.gz'| /usr/bin/gtbl | /usr/bin/nroff -Tlatin1 -mandoc -c|lpr
Should work, I just tried it.
edit: I suppose you could do that with all manpages and if this http://www.patoche.org/LTT/printer/00000141.html works(although you would have to change all */local/* paths): man-page printing becomes even more practical!
Now, remember to read some of it too: not just print it out XD

There are a number of files on your system that a package wants to provide thus causing a conflict.  Aborting with warnings is the expected behavior.  Now the question is: what placed the files on your system?  Did you manually compile and install python2 or other packages by chance?
Let's see if any package that pacman installed owns one of those files (I'm guessing now); post the output of:
    pacman -Qo /usr/include/python2.7/abstract.h
As that was your 1st post, welcome to Arch.  Plz use code tags in your posts --> https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

  • Unable to install any applications with PCSuite

I have the latest PC Suite. Problem:
Cannot install any software onto the phone using either cable or bluetooth.
Cannot browse the phone using the Nokia Phone browser as it comes up with nothing...it wont show whats on the phone.
Only way I can transfer any software is via the obex file transfer method of sending it via a message.
Now, I dont know if this is due to an upgrade from Microsoft to sp2, as all was working about a month or so ago.
Bluetooth and usb connections are find and am using the latest drivers.
Sent an email to Nokia technical and just waiting for a reply..LOL.
Thanks to anyone who can shed any light on this for me.

    Hi,
I actually prefer the functionality of manually installing phone apps as you describe instead of using the PC Suite.
I don't use PC Suite to install .sis or .jar phone applications as it's too buggy to use. Instead, I use BlueTooth to transfer the file manually to the phone...
    - Locate the .sis or .jar file on your PC in Windows Explorer.
    - Right Click the application file.
    - Select, 'Send To', 'BlueTooth Device'.
    - Transfer file to your phone.
In the phone go to your inbox and select the newly received message. The .sis or .jar application should then install. For me, PC Suite is just too hit and miss to rely on. I used to have a 7650 before getting my current N70 and PC Suite was a bit of a double whammy in that it was not only buggy but when it did work it used to suck resources from the Windows OS quite badly.
Again, I don't use the phone's built in file browser as it is too limited and hides too many folders, I guess mainly to protect newbies from crippling their smart phone. Instead I use FExplorer V1.15 which is an excellent piece of S60 freeware. The application is available from
    http://www.gosymbian.com/
and imho is an essential app for any Series 60 smart phone. Be warned though!! If you don't know your way around the system directories and accidently delete the wrong system file you can end up seriously damaging your phone, just like Windows etc.
    Hope that helps!

  • Unable to Install any packages in Fink

I am unable to install any packages either via Fink commander or via the terminal. I was able to install some just the other day, so I don't know what went wrong.
I have not been able to get Fink commander to see any package lists, despite following every bit of advice I could find in these forumns and on the net. Also, I updated the repositories rsync as instructed on the net. I can see the list of Fink packages by running "Fink List". However, when I try to install "sudo apt-get install xyz package" I connstantly receive the error "xyz package not found".
I'm sure this is a case of operator error, only I don't know what that error might be. I would be most grateful for anyone's help in this regard as I really enjoyed the Fink programs like kdegames that I was able to install before I started having this problem.
My thanks to everyone for any assistance they can provide.

I appreciate your previous response, instructing me to enter "source /sw/bin/init.sh as a user in order to run Evolution.
My problem is that this solution only lasts until I logout. When I log back and and try to run evolution via terminal, I receive the error "Command not found". Once I enter your instruction again, all is well-for that session.
Is there a way I can do this globally and make it "stick"? By making it stick I mean so that I don't have to do it each time I want to run evolution.
These issues of course don't happen when evolution is run as admin user. Also, it's worth noting that evolution is the only fink program that causes these problems. Other KDE programs like kgeography and kmahjongg don't have such issues.
I appreciate any feedback you can give with this issue.

: I have recently purchased a iBook G4 Mac OS X VERSION 10.5.6 and I  cannot install any apps such as firefox, adobe reader, it reads you cannot install this file on this disk

Are you saying the iBook G4 you have is running OS X 10.5.6?
The next file to get for it would be the Combo update 10.5.8 for Leopard.
And any old archived Flash player for 10.5.8 from Adobe flash site.
A browser such as TenFourFox, iCab, SeaMonkey-PPC, these are OK
but you won't be able to go past Leopard 10.5(.8) in a PowerPC Mac.
All these are free bits, however anything past 10.5.8 Mac OS X
would require a newer Mac with Intel-based architecture. Macs
made in 2006+ can see later OS X versions.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Installing "dummy" packages in pacman

I have an issue, and I've searched around, but found nothing. So here goes
Say a situation where I'd like to (or have to) install a piece of software without going though pacman, but still like it to be implemented in the database of pacman, so other PKGBUILDs will be aware that my dependency actually is there. I've heard about wocka in AUR, but it didn't work/compile on my Arch64 setup. I've made some "emtpy" packages by hand to counter this problem, but that is tedious. What I could use is something like:
pacman -D (dummy package ) mplayer, that simply installs an "empty" mplayer package. If this exists already, in a script or a hidden function in pacman, I'd be happy If it doesn't I could start freshing up my bash-skills >_<

Well... I created a script now that covers it pretty much
    usage:
dummypkg -S foo version    installs a dummy pkg with pkgver=version, a file that resembles the package name and version in /etc/dummy (uses sudo for pacman)
dummypkg -R foo       checks if foo has been installed by dummypkg and removes it with pacman
dummypkg -l              lists all packages and package versions of all packages installed by dummypkg
temporary building is done in ~/.dummypkg-tmp/
    #!/bin/bash

  • My iPad 1 cannot install any apps from apple store even though it has been updated to ios 5.1.1 which is better than 4.3 that is required by most of the apps in apple store. I reset factory settings but still to no avail I cannot install any apps.

MY iPad 1 cannot install any apps

A lot of apps have current versions that require higher iOS versions than 5.1.1
But some developers allow you to download older compatible versions of their apps. If the app is free then try downloading the current version on your computer's iTunes so that it's in your account's 'purchase' history, and then in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPad see if you can download an older compatible version of the app. If the app is paid-for then try contacting the developer first and see if that will work with their app (and if they have a version compatible with iOS 5.1.1 available) - don't buy the app until you know that it will work.
There is also this page for finding current apps that require iOS 5.1.1 or lower : https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/support/advice-and-articles/finding-a pps-for-older-devices#5.1.1

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Don't worry, no special etiquette, we're all friends here
What was the software that you installed that claims to "enhance the speed of your system"? The logical thing to do would be to uninstall the application and hope that it hasn't caused wider ranging problems. The SW, if only halfway reputable, should have come with uninstall instructions. Follow the instructions, reboot and see if your download problem is fixed.
WRT to the slowing down that prompted your (misguided) installation of this SW there are many things that may be the culprit but the most common and easiest to fix is the remaining space on your HD. What size is your HD and how much free space is there? This info can be obtained by selecting your HD and keying Command (Apple) + I (the letter 'eye').
Post back with the SW concerned and the remaining space and we can take it from there.
    Good luck,
    Adrian
