[solved] cant get x to start

Hi, my x server wont start.
I have just had a massive period with no internet access, and finally got round to running pacman -Syu on my machine after nearly 12 months with no updates.
Needless to say, it didnt like it. I am now stuck with a broken x, and having read through lots of different issues with similiar'ish problems I am very confused.
my machine is a 32bit processor (pentium4) with a nvidia geforce 6200 card and is fully up to date as of 18/12/2011.
System boots up to cli terminal with no errors, then startx command fails, errors being
sh: /usr/bin/xkbcomp: No such file or directory
(EE) Error compiling keymap (server-0)
(EE) XKB: Couldn't compile keymap
XKB: Failed to compile keymap
Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config.

Failed to activate core devices.
thinking it might be my 32bit machine?? as this seems to be a common issue? but the error complains about a missing file which I thought was handled by xorg.conf?????

For anyone who's recent updates may have caused similar issues, updating last night somehow removed my /usr/bin/xkbcomp file, reinstalling xorg-xkbcomp fixed this issue.

I just managed to fix mine without restoring. I thought I was going to have to, after several attempts to sync to itunes told me that it was in recovery mode and needed to be restored. But I didnt want to lose my recent data. As a last resort, I plugged it in and opened iPhone Explorer to see if it would recognize it and maybe let me back up my files manually. It ended up fixing it just by being open! Everything is working fine now, the Facebook app is gone (won't touch it until a new update comes out and others have tested it first) and I'm backing everything up. So download iPhone Explorer and try this before restoring Hope this helps.

Cant get past the starting mac os x screen

hey im posting for my brother.. he has a macbook and now when he turns it on he cant get past the blue "starting the mac os x" screen its just stuck there.. HELP ?!?

Start up from the disk that came with the computer (or an upgrade disk). (Insert the disk, hold down the “C” key-it takes awhile so be patient. If it starts up to the install screen, click continue in the window that first appears. Then select “utilities” in the finder menu and select "disk utility”. Your HD should show up in the sidebar window. Highlight it and click the "repair disk” button. Come back with your results.

HELP cant get past the start up screen

Hi all!
Today my computer was running super slow so I was forced to restart it by holding down the power button, however, when it began to start back up it never made it past the start up screen. Ive tried multiple things to try and get it to start up again, resetting it, keeping it plugged in in case maybe the battery was dead, and it wont even let me start it in safe mode. The light on the bottom right corner that I think normally lights up isn't lighting up now either, I dont know if I need a new battery or if the computer needs to be sent in to be repaired, or whats going on. Does any one have any suggestion about what I should do?? I'm sure there are multiple things im not trying because I'm unaware of them, so if any one has ANY suggestions that would help! thanks!

If it is not seeing the WiFi network and will not connect you can try restarting that one iPad and then try again. If it still will not cooperate, activate it using iTunes on a computer and then troubleshoot the network connection after the device is up and running.

[SOLVED] cant get Xcompmgr to work how i want

I have just followed the wiki on here to install and use Xcompmgr, I then went to the fluxbox wiki for Xcompmgr to see if i could get it to work properly. no luck!
Xcompmgr works fine, but i cant control how it works! when I run xcompmgr -c in terminal, it all kicks in fine, but everything goes to 50% transparency!! ideally, I want it to start with no transparency, then use transset to set individual apps transparency!

If flux works similarly to openbox, if you put "xcompmgr &" into you autostart file (~/.fluxbox/startup I believe), this should start xcompmgr without affecting anything initially. Once your logged in, now with xcompmgr running, you can launch apps with transset.
I've only had a brief mess around with transset and only use transparency for terminal, so apologies if this doesn't work / isn't what you're looking for.

Pinterest was taking up 13 GB on my phone. I deleted it, it ran out of battery and when i plugged it back in- i cant get it to start off of the apple logo screen. Help!!

My phone had been telling me i did not have enough storage- and i finally found out that pintrest was taking up 13 GB! When i found out, i deleted it. Soon my phone ran out of battery, and it was a while before i could plug it back in. Once i could plug it in it stayed on the Apple logo- and will not start. I can hold the power and start button and it will go black, but thats it. I have plugged it in but itunes wants me to restore it- we just got back from vacation and all our photos are on my phone!! I dont want to lose them!! GRRR PLEASE HELP!!!

If you can actually get to restore, maybe (I estimate a 0.01% chance) you'll be able to do a backup before the restore. Actually, from the symptoms you describe, I suspect a restore won't work either and you'll need to do a recovery.

I CANT GET THIS THING STARTED

Are you using iTunes 7.02?
Did you go through the setup procedures?
You do have a 2G Shuffle?
Are you saying it took 4 hours to load your iPod before you disconnected it? Do you have USB 2.0?
After you took it off, if you turned it on it should show the green light for 2 seconds, then the light will go off. Press play after the light goes off to play your music. If it doesn't play, do any lights show on the Shuffle?
What format are the songs in? Select a song in iTunes, right click, and then select Get Info.

[SOLVED]Cant get video drivers sorted out on openbox install

I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver with a ATI radeon 7850 and would like to avoid using the catalyst driver unless it's my last resort. I'm doing an install with lightdm and openbox. I followed that wiki which basically says to install the driver and it should autodetect my resolution with no problems. Well I've been stuck at 1024x768 for a day now.
I went through the xorg log file and was unable to figure out what exactly is wrong myself, but here it is: http://pastebin.com/E46sv47N
As far as I can tell the correct drivers loaded but the resolution was set wrong. although if I plug in an hdmi cable in place of the DVI nothing happens and I get a black screen.
I'm trying to get a 1920x1080 resolution but the closest I've gotten is what looks like 1920x1080 squished over to the right side of the screen with a large black bar to the left side. I "accomplished" that by executing the following:

[Solved] Cant get fglrx to load after an overdue pacman -Syu

I tried to launch steam tonight after doing a long overdue pacman -Syu yesterday, and it gave an error about GL. Upon closer inspection, no GL apps will run, giving similar errors:
$ glxgears

Here's what I've been able to track down:
The fglrx module isnt loading. When I try to load it manually:
$ sudo modprobe fglrx

I'm using the unofficial pacman repo from Vi0l0, so I also tried his catalyst-hook package, and the catalyst and catalyst-hook packages from AUR, running catalyst_build_module all and rebooting a couple times, but with no success. (his repos seem to have newer versions of the packages anyways)
Any idea what the root of the problem might be, or what I should try next?

Ok, so I'm gonna go ahead and answer my own question! (This is why I dont usually post in forums!)
I installed catalyst-test from AUR. Everything is fine now.
Guess I didnt see that the first time looking through the older forum posts.

I just restarted my Iphone and now I cant get it to start again

Just downloaded the new update iOS7. It woulden't use the program so I restarted/deleted the Iphone completely and now it wont come back on.. Told me to contact Apple support customer service, but that's closed at this hour.. Really need the phone now, it's my work phone as well. Any ideas to what I can do?

I just bought an ipad cant get it to do anything

I just bought an ipad and cant get it to start up. It is connected to my laptop.

Is it fully charged? What version of iTunes do you have on your laptop? At this stage, it would be best to update your iTunes, even if you have it, to version 10.5.
Open iTunes and the iPad should appear on the left sidebar under Devices.
