[ SOLVED ] Cant stop monitor going to sleep

Hi .... How can i stop the monitor going to sleep after about 5 or 10 minutes of being idle ?  I have tried xfce4-power-manager and that has no effect no matter what settings i try ..
Any suggestions please ?

All i have is Option "DPMS" "False" in my xorg.conf, but i suppose setting the timers to zero would, as a side-effect, turn dpms off as well.
Blank Time is the default timer for the screensaver.
man xorg.conf
Option "StandbyTime" "time":
It is only enabled for screens that have the
"DPMS" option set (see the MONITOR section below).
In any case you must restart xorg, and then check with
xset q | grep -i standby
xset q | grep -i dpms
to make sure.

  • Since update download monitor shows "No Signal" and "Monitor Going to Sleep" over and over

I have an HP w2072a Monitor and a Pavillion p7-1436s computer.  I run Windows 8.  Since downloading an update yesterday, I cannot get my monitor to work.  I have unplugged it, plugged it in, tried another monitor, tried another cable, turned the computer off and on several times, played with the sleep button, tried all the buttons on the monitor--nothing works.  If I hit the "On" button, the light turns to blue briefly, I get the screen showing "No signal" then "Monitor Going to Sleep" comes up and the light turns amber---over and over again.  Could this be related to the update I received?  I think the update said it was setting a restore point, but with no monitor, I am stuck!

    Hi dianthus,
Sorry to hear about the issue after doing the update. Do you recall what the update was for? I have included a document regarding your issue.

  • Late 2012 mac mini display signal drops while booting and monitor goes to sleep

I have a new Late 2012 Mac Mini.  I have had it for a week, what just started happening is that during restart, the video signal drops and my monitor goes to sleep.  I then have to toggle through the input options on the monitor and the video signal is detected again and the monitor wakes up.
Here is what I see - If i shut down and then power back up, I get the grey screen, then the apple logo, then the little status circle spins for a few cycles then stops and then the screen goes black and the monitor says signal lost and then 5 seconds later goes to sleep.
It is possible it is my monitor but, I haven't had any issues with it and i only drops the signal like that during a reboot.

Welcome to the family. Search this forum for the main thread for this problem titled: "mac mini 2012 video blinking out".

  • HP Monitor going to sleep on start up

Ok, I've dealt with this problem long enough. I have an HP pavilion Elite, hpe 400f. Monitor worked great on it, then one night while I was checking my email, the picture went scrabled, and ever since I am faced with a "Monitor Going to sleep" error on start up. I can not get into my settings or do anything.
It does not work on other working monitors, I tried a whole new set of cables and when that did not help, I went and bought a new graphics card. That did no good either. But I can not install the drivers until I can actually see how to do it.
So what now? Nothing HP told me works. I am about to go crazy with this.  I've begged HP to help me for a year off and on to no prevail.
    Can you PLEASE help me?

  • Prevent monitor going to sleep during slideshow

Prevent monitor going to sleep during long slideshows. It's very annoyng having to 'shake' your mouse every few minutes to prevent screen blackout.
Some programs do that (e.g. BSPlayer when playing movies).

    Hello DeniWilco,
Since you can isolate when the issue happened the first thing to consider is doing a system restore to a time before the issue happened.
Can you reproduce this same issue while in safe mode?

I have read your post on how your monitor goes into sleep mode and will not wake up, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To rule out any sleep mode issues with the monitor, I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • HP Pavilion, Monitor going to sleep error

When i start up my HP Pavilion, It shows a screen with no vga signal, and then it says "Monitor going to sleep" I do not know what to do? Please help.

I am having the same problem where my Desktop turns on, nothing comes up on the monitor and it goes to sleep fairly quickly, and the fan just keeps running in the tower and is louder than normal.  The keyboard does not seem to be responsive and I checked to make sure my monitor is working.  How would a bad graphics card make the fans keep running like that?

  • HPw2207 Monitor Goes To Sleep & Won't Wake Up

My HPw2207 Wide LCD Monitor goes to sleep and won't come out of the sleep mode.  The screen is blank and won't respond.  I have to unplug power and reboot the HP Desktop to get the monitor to work again.  Once the monitor is timed to sleep the same thing happens and I have to reboot the system again.  The computer is an HP-Pavillion d4999t (KC836AV-ABA).  I also have an  NVIDIA graphics card on the system.  This started about a week ago.  I checked the cable connection and it appears to be fine.  I tried downloading an updated driver for the monitor for Windows 7 from this site but it encounters an error when trying to install.  I have set the sleep mode to "Never" for now hoping that this will at least keep the monitor awake in screen saver mode.  I need some help.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi:
Thanks for your nterest in the problem.  Yes, I have tried pressing both the power button and the spacebar to bring the monitor out of sleep mode.  Neither works.  The power button is non responsive at this point.  Shutting off the monitor and restarting does nothing as well.  The only way to get the monitor out of sleep is to disconnect all power and cold start the entire system.  However when the monitror goes back into sleep mode the system freezes up again.

  • Monitor Going to Sleep at Startup; Can't Even Run Diagnostics or Repairs

Months and months ago, my system stopped waking up from sleep mode.  Unable to find a solution, I abandoned using sleep mode and rebooted on each use.  The other week, it began going into sleep mode while just randomly browsing the web.  It would then take multiple hard reboots (holding in the power key) until it would come back up.  Multiple because it would fall asleep again during reboot, so I'd have to do it a few times to finally get it to stay awake.
Last night, as lucks x-mas gift to me, it did this again.  Only this time it will not come back after a half-dozen hard boots.  It keeps falling asleep while booting up or running diagnostics or repairs or any of the other options I can briefly try.
I have tried another monitor; it still gives me the "no input signal" error.  So now I know it isn't the monitor.  Which leaves the video card, the motherboard, the power supply, and the operating system as the culprits.
I can't test any of them though because as I said, it falls asleep while running boot-up diagnostics, repairs, or just anything else.
The inside of my machine is clean; did that when it began doing this.  I also smelled the very faint aroma of ozone last night when it crashed and refused to wake this latest time, which could mean it's a card issue and the card is fried.
I'm at my wits end and about to give up on it.  All I know is that I won't be buying anymore HP products.  The number of threads about similar issues to mine is staggering, and no one seems to be able to offer an actual solution from HP.
If anyone has any last minute ideas... I'll give them a whirl.

It could be the graphics driver needs to be install for the onboard.  If you can run the diagnostics or whatever you wanted to run and then install a new video card, it will probably need a driver anyways.  If you want to try inatalling the onboard graphics driver, try this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-63977-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
That may say it is for a different PC but it uses the same motherboard as yours.

I understand that you are having issues with your computer display not working. Given your statement that you have tried plugging it into two TV's I am assuming it does not work on them either. This would indicate the problem resides on the computer itself. I am recommending that you review and follow the HP Support document: Windows 8 Safe Mode, which should enable you to boot. If you are able to boot into Safe Mode and see the computer again follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which will walk you through restoring your computer back to before this became an issue.
***NOTE: Do not worry about the documents being Windows 8 and not Windows 8.1 the steps are the same.
If you cannot boot into Safe Mode the issue appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.

  • HP p6040d monitor going to sleep when starting

Hi our desktop does not start anymore. Everytime I turn it on, monitor says "no signal", and goes to sleep.
My sister suggested me to check the cables. I reconnect all the cables, and it turned on successfully. The next day, when we turn the pc on, it does the "no signal" again and goes to sleep. I checked the cables again, but this time it does not work.
I don't have another monitor to check if this is a monitor/cpu issue.
By the way, the last 2-3 times I turn it on the cpu beeps(long beeps, for about 2 seconds each) multiple times.
What are your suggestions? Buy a new vga cord?
This pc is not that old, it's just 4-5 years old.

    Any suggestions?

Your monitor is not getting a video signal so that is why it's going to sleep.  Uncable the monitor and recable and see if that helps.  Be sure the connectors are on straight and tight.
