[SOLVED] Catalyst 12.6 legacy and Awesome 3.5 (official repo)

Hi,
I have a readeon HD 2600 and I'm swaping from free drivers to ati's one.
I post here because I have an issue with awesome. It's actualy the same glitch as in this thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=147680). It appear when i'm resizing a window and also with tilling.
Do you think it's a bug in awesome? Something else?
Nb : I tryed "yaourt -S awesome34" and with this old version, everything is right (except my rc.lua file, of course ). I can stay some time with this old buid but it won't be a good solution on the long term.

I'm a bit confuse that I just solved this problem by unactivating compositing as explained in this wiki page : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … _extension. I think this can help other archlinux users that also want to play games with a old ati card

awesome: symbol lookup error: awesome: undefined symbol: cairo_xcb_surface_create
on xinit. It gets started with "exec ck-launch-session awesome"
I've narrowed the problem down to awesome itself, even with default rc.lua. Anyone else also getting these?

Smells like packaging issue, right? Testing is enabled, so cairo is on 1.10.0-2 and awesome on 3.4.6-1.

Problems by starting x and awesome

for a few days, I'm now using arch with awesome as wm, but it's only possible and awesome by root, otherwise I get the following error:
W: awesome: a_dbus_init:387: D-Bus system bus connection failed: failed to connect to socket /temp/dbus-lgy9oSvBJa: Connection refused
process 2833: argument to dbus_bus_request_name() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-bus.c line 1061.
But I have no idea how to deal with it. After two days searching for a solution to start awesome as normal user I haven't got the slightest clue.
Is there anybody, who can tell me, what my problem is and how I can solve it?

I solved the problem by adding the following lines to the .xinitrc:

Now I only have to find out, how I can use the firefox account, I used as root, as normal user.

Interface between Legacy and SAP for Equipment Master

I got a requirement where I need to develop a interface between legacy system and R/3 system for Equipment Master Data update in R/3. I am thinking of getting a Idoc file from Legacy and then update the changes or any new creation of Equipments in R/3. I found a standard BAPI for this BAPI_EQUIPMENT_CREATE/CHANGE. This BAPI use a strcture BAPI_ITOB for data record of IDoc. But I got more data from legacy except what we have in BAPI_ITOB. I got Partner Data, Classification data also for Equipments. I am thinking of copying the BAPI to a Z function module and modify the Idoc structure , message type and all to capture all the data and then do a update in same way as standard transaction IE01(Equipment Create) is doing in Batch Input. Do you think if there is any better way of doing this? I am not used to transaction BAPI . just wondering if we Can use that in someway to include our modification?

20,000 is on quite higher side for IDOC.
IBIP help doc says it needs 2 Kbyte for each record, i.e. 40 Mb for 20,000 rec. that should be ok. Since it has structures for Partner & classification data , I don't think u need to modify the BAPI.

Why are my installed extentions on FF 5.01 suddenly not showing up in the add-ons window tab (to change preferences), even though the extentions (like Google toolbar and Awesome Screenshot) are visible on the FF interface?

My Google toolbar was working fine earlier this morning. A few hours later, the search window stopped opening new tabs. I did some snooping and discovered that none of my extension add-ons were showing up in the add-ons tab. However, the appearance and plug-ins are still listed. When I click on the Extensions tab there is just a small box that says "You don't have any add-ons of this type installed." However, my Google toolbar, Add Blocker, and Awesome Screenshot etc. is still visible in the FF interface. When I try to uninstall the Google toolbar using the options button on the toolbar itself, nothing happens. What's up?

Afterwords there were some changes in Add-ons that were enabled/disabled that then had to be straightened out.
I disabled Test Pilot which was in the process of testing thinking that it might have had something to do with the problem. I have not updated to the latest version of 5.0 because one favorite Add-on [Firegestures] is supposed to be incompatible.

Weird javascript issues in google-chrome and awesome-wm

I'm having a specific and annoying problem running google-chrome 12.0.742.100-1 and awesome 3.4.9-1. When I use Gmail, the popup chat and tasks window placement is totally fscked up. The windows appear in random places and are hanging off the side of the page, so that I cannot focus them or use them.
Wondering if this is related to awesome + chrome because I do not experience this in Gnome or chromium. This has afflicted that last couple of google-chrome installations for me. I suppose it could also be a Gmail-specific javascript bug.

Why use the closed source chrome, when the open source chromium works? (and doesn't link against 4 year old libs etc)

How to make address and awesome bar not auto-expand?

I'm looking to customize firefox's appearance. I want two rows: one with the menu button, tabs, and awesome bar (in that order), and another with the forward/back buttons, address bar, home button, and bookmarks toolbar items (also in that order).
In both cases, the address bar and the awesome bar expand to fill all of the empty space (ei. my awesome bar starts spanning almost the entire row) and shrink as more items are added (ei. as I open more tabs). I would like to make it so they have a set size.

That's exactly what I did.
I created a chrome folder here: (home)/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/(....default)/chrome
Within which I created a userChrome.css file that reads:

[SOLVED] Catalyst 13.4 fails

Hello,
I've tried several times to update to catalyst 13.4 in a variety of ways. catalyst-utils and -dkms as well as replacing those with the catalyst-total AUR package. No matter. The result is consistently that X.org does not start up, and I have yet to figure out why. Since I would like to update my kernel and my X.org install before they're more than a year out of date, I need to get my graphics driver updated to one that will work with the more recent kernel/X versions.
The Xorg.0.a.log is the log from the failed X session after having installed catalyst-total 13.4-18. The other log is from the session I'm writing this from (ie., a working one).

My procedure is as follows:
1) Install/replace packages
2) For catalyst-total, `enable` various systemd .services.

I've tried to ask about it previously in #archlinux, but the only thing they pointed at was the "(EE) fglrx(0): Failed to disable VGA arbiter." message... which also appears in the X session log that's working perfectly fine.

Have you built the kernel modules for this when you updated X (and related packages to the versions in [xorg113])? I run the lqx kernel as well, and everytime I upgrade the lqx kernel, I forget to build the modules, resulting in X not starting.
I probably haven't. What kernel modules need rebuilding for an X update? (I don't recall ever doing this. When updating graphics drivers or kernels, sure, but not with an X.org upgrade.)

You don't say? :) I was having some issues getting my kernel configuration to get used by newer versions of the kernel (the kernel does some silly stuff if there are unknown entries in the file), so I was already a bit behind when the Catalyst "lock" happened. And now I'm just afraid of touching either kernel or X.org for fear of b0rkage.

That's a good suggestion, and it's something that we're already planning on addressing in the next release, probably via a service that you can use to view information about patches and notifications -- not only the ones that were known at the time that you installed, but also ones that might have come into existence since then.

One of the requirements seems to be ACPI. The Win32_BIOS class of WMI has a BIOSCharacteristics property that indicates if ACPI is supported. See this link for properties exposed by Win32_BIOS:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

I am having the exact same problem as described in the following post:

"I'm using a DAQ Card (AI-16E-4), which didn't work properly in MAX. MAX complained that the card didn't respond to an interrupt request.
I've had this issue for a while, but dropped it, since NI support told me nothing could be done about it. Meanwhile, a seemingly unrelated problem with a wireless pcmcia network card arose. Cisco had no clue what was wrong with their card either, but I found Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q327947. It seems that Win2k (they claim SP3 and up) disables ISA to PCI routing, which is what causes this problem.
To fix it, open regedit
and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters"
edit or create the DWORD value "DisableIsaToPciRouting" and set the value data to 0.

The difference is that I am using WinXP and the Regedit fix does not solve the problem. Does anybody know how he was able to continue to use the card before he solved the problem? The card works fine in MAX, but errors out in LabVIEW.

Here some additional suggestions that have corrected some PCMCIA difficulties in the past besides the registry edit you suggested.
1. General Troubleshooting to Verify Correct Hardware and Software Installation
Uninstall the PC Card hardware through Device Manager
Remove the PC Card from the laptop
Uninstall the NI-DAQ software
Follow the normal installation instructions (the most important step to remember for Plug-n-Play Operating Systems is to install the software first)
Try the latest service packs for Win 2000 or Win XP
Try the PC Card in a different laptop
Try a different slot in the laptop. On certain laptops PC Cards have been successfully installed in the top PCMCIA slot instead of the bottom.
2. Additional Troubleshootin
g for PC Cards that Return IRQ Conflicts
For E-Series DAQCards:
Update to NI-DAQ 6.9.3 first and then update NI-PAL to version 1.6.1 (included exe file).
Download the attached NI-PAL (ni-cdu1610.exe), and run the installer. When receiving the error "The device is not responding to the first IRQ Level" in Measurement and Automation Explorer, try this method of upgrading NI-PAL
3. Additional Troubleshooting Steps
Try disabling the 3COM adapter, and any other extraneous (for now) devices like any built in serial and parallel ports. The best way to do this is probably to disable them in the BIOS. If the PCMCIA card works properly then try to reconfigure disabled devices one at a time.
Make sure the latest BIOS is installed.
Check for any unusual PCMCIA drivers or other software that might interfere with the PCMCIA driver.
