[Solved]Catalyst 8.6 HDTV resolution incorrect HELP!!

After upgrade from Catalyst 8.02 (I know upgrade has long been in the queue for me), I cannot get my desktop resolution up to the 1360 (?) x 760 (?)  (I forget the exact numbers but it was 13xx x xxx)  My xorg.conf hasn't changed.  I took a look at /etc/ati/ but I can't make sense of how it detects my TV.
If anybody has any suggestions please help!
*edit*
Just in case anybody else runs into this problem. I solved it by added Option "IgnoreEDID" "true" in the Screen section (xorg.conf).

From your Xorg.0.log:
(II) fglrx(0): DRIScreenInit done
(II) fglrx(0): Kernel Module Version Information:
(II) fglrx(0): Name: fglrx
(II) fglrx(0): Version: 8.49.7
(II) fglrx(0): Date: May 12 2008
(II) fglrx(0): Desc: ATI FireGL DRM kernel module
(WW) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version does *not* match driver.
(EE) fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated OpenGL will not work
You have to quit X, then rmmod and modprobe the kernel module - you're still using the old one.  (a reboot would technically fix it too)
# rmmod fglrx
# modprobe fglrx
# dmesg | tail
The dmesg output should say you've successfully loaded the 8.501 driver.

Sorry to say it, but I think you can see from Bob's response that there's no way to solve this rapidly.
Did you take an image of your Mountain Lion install before upgrading to Yosemite? Roll back to that. If you're not in the habit of taking a snapshot of your system before performing operating system upgrades - get in that habit. If you are dependent on anything at all on hour computer, having a reliable backup method in place is essential. If you don't have a Time Capsule, or some other way to run Time Machine onto a disk that's not in your computer, go set that up yesterday.
If you can't just remove Yosemite and roll back to Mountain Lion for whatever reason, you can partition your drive so that you can install both Yosemite and Mountain Lion on the same drive, and then boot into Mountain Lion when you need to work in CS5. Or you can take your Mountain Lion disc (I assume you have one, no?) and then use it to create a virtual machine in something like VirtualBox to run Mountain Lion from inside Yosemite.

InDesign CS6 is not optimized for retina displays. You’ll need to move to Creative Cloud for retina compatibility.

Hello I forgot my Security question of my Apple ID ? I don't kow what should I do and how to solve this problem ? could you please help  ?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Random external monitor (HDTV) resolutions

Prior to the 10.5.6 update, I had no problems with connecting (VGA) my MacBook to my 27" HDTV at a resolution of 1366x768. No black bars, no distortion, no problems. To assist in my case, let's just say, I had wallpaper "A" for my MB screen and wallpaper "B" for the HDTV.
But ever since getting the update, I sometimes get another wallpaper background which we can call as "C". Another problem. The resolution changed from 1366v768 to 800x600. I couldn't find my default tv resolution anymore other than 1024x768 and a host of others. The closest one was 1280x768 which would leave black bars on the sides. The display prefs window calls it "Display" instead of the TV name.
However sometimes it works like how it used to and you can tell because:
    1. The wallpaper is switched to "B" which was how I had originally set it up.
    2. The resolution is 1360x768 and covers the full screen.
    3. The display window in Sys Prefs shows it with the TV name instead of a generic "Display" tag.
Anyone out there who can help? Seems like Mac OS X uses some kind of a monitor profile but it's driving me nuts.
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Forgot to add this but I also did a PRAM/NVRAM reset holding the CmdOpt+PR. Sound settings defaulted but no change in the TV resolution.
I tried a safemode login but still no luck with the HDTV.

  • MBP/HDTV Resolution Mismatch

Hi all, long time lurker here.
I'm having a problem (obviously) getting my mbp (purchased june 2011) to connect to my shiny new insignia hdtv.  i've got a thunderbolt to hdmi that's working swimmingly, i've been able to get the sound out of the external speakers.  so far so good.
but.  my mbp runs at 1680x1050, and my tv apparently doesnt, so when i mirror my displays i lose some off the top and bottom (the menu bar and an oomph off the top, about the same off the bottom) and i've got black bands on the left and right side of the tv display.  how do i match my resolutions? i can't figure this out...

The manual may say that only lower resolutions are supported - but I am having great success with a different model.
My LC-37D90U (via DVI) connects at 1080p. (1920x1080p)
I have the 'View Mode' set to 'Dot by Dot.' At first I didn't - and I thought I was going to have to mess with one of the display config utilities. Have you tried configuring the digital input option for the DVI port? I had another Sharp which gave you the option to select the input signal. This helped out too. My old model was the LC-37D7U.
    Hope this helps...

  • AMD Radeon HD 7770 GHZ Edition Resolution incorrect and computer hangup

Hello all. I have been chasing down a problem with my computer hanging up when playing CS:GO. The computer will freeze/lag and repeat the previous 1second of audio/video until I hard boot the system or pull power. I updated my BIOS version as well as installed all of the most recent drivers for both MoBo and Catalyst Control Center.
    My build specs exactly:
    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
    Motherboard: ASRock Z87M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($99.99 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($52.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($90.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB Video Card ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Microcenter)
Case Fan: Arctic Cooling Arctic F9 43.0 CFM 92mm Fan ($4.98 @ Amazon)
    Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($45.99 @ NCIX US)
    Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($15.99 @ Microcenter)
OS: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
When I initially installed the video card and set it up, I had set the resolution to MAX which is 1920x1080 (my natural ASUS LED monitor's resolution) but got a black border around the desktop screen. I didn't think much of it and just reduced the resolution to something that fit better (dont exactly remember the size) but in an effort to troubleshoot the problem, I removed the video card and ran the monitor off of the MoBo HDMI output. When I set the resolution to 1920x1080, the desktop fit perfectly.
What would cause the same resolution settings from the HDMI out on the MoBo and HDMI out from the video card to display differently?
I completely uninstalled CCC and reinstalled the driver and there is no change in the difference in resolution display.
Some things I tried to diagnose the hang-up problems:
MemTest86+ on both sticks of ram for 10+hours without an error
Prime95 for 4+ hours without an error
FurMark ran at 17FPS at the reduced resolution for 20+ minutes sitting at ~60-62C steady state without a hiccup
CPU and GPU temps are always in check, never reaching past 65C under full load. I have not overclocked anything or adjusted the performance of the system. It is really frustrating and I am wondering if the 2 problems are connected somehow.
Any help on the resolution issue would be fantastic!

    Quote from: badboy2k on 14-October-13, 20:37:53
for the black border via HDMI that's normal as it will have scaling on 10% by default!
1: go into the AMD software
    2: expand My Digital Flat-Panels
3: go to Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel)
4: change the scaling from 10% to 0% and apply
now it should fill the whole screen at 1920x1080 resolution!
Ill try that when I get home! Thanks!
Just out of curiosity, why would the scaling be down 10%?? That seems kinda silly!

  • Conflicting information about external display resolution - please help!

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) with the non-reflective screen, Mini Display Port and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Graphics processor.
According to these technical specifications (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP544), the built-in NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Graphics processor supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display.
Armed with this information, I just purchased a shiny, new DELL U2711 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&sku= 224-8284&redirect=1) external display which has a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Unfortunately, all I can get out of it is 1920 x 1080 (This is the maximum resolution I can select in the monitors system preferences panel.)
So Apple tells me this graphics card supports 2560 x 1600, but I also contacted NVIDIA directly who told me that this particular card's maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080.
Somebody has to be wrong. Is this monitor supported? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to send this monitor back and buy a smaller display?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    O

Well - seeing as nobody could provide any help on this, I'll post the answer in case anybody else has the same problem.
It turns out that the monitor's resolution IS supported by the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, so the information NVIDIA gave me was wrong.
    The issue was the adaptor.
A regular Mini Display > DVI adaptor can only handle a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Turns out I needed a Mini Display > DUAL LINK DVI Adapter, which is a combination of USB and DVI which provides the required resolution of 2560 x 1600.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A
Hope this is helpful to somebody.

  • I think I solved my time changing issues- hope this helps

Hey everyone, I think I've had some success with my time changing issues. I originally posted this to another user as a follow up to her question, but I'm reposting it here. Hope it helps:
    "msteinny,
So i went to the apple store to meet with an apple genius to ask him why my phone's time kept moving up 1 hour everytime I synced my phone. Well he said that he's never seen this problem before, and after a trying a reset and restore he let me exchange my phone. The problem is that when I went to sync my new phone the problem still persisted. They told me it was probably something to do with my computer and its time zone settings.
So I get home and click on my computers clock in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the date and time properties and sure enought my time is correct, the date is correct and the time zone is correct (Eastern Daylight Time). So I look through the different tabs (Date & Time, Time Zone, Internet Time). The first thing I tried to do was to change where my computer syncs its internet time. It was originaly set on NIST time. I then switched it to Windows time, but this didn't do anything. My clock would still change when I synced to itunes. The next thing I tried was fideling around in the Time Zone tabs. I noticed that the box that says "Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings" was unchecked, so I checked it and my computer's time jumped an hour ahead. So I left the box checked but moved my clock one hour back (to the correct time), clicked on apply and left it at that. I synced my iPhone and voila! The time didn't change! It stayed on the correct time! To to make a long story short, make sure that you computer's clock is set on "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes, make sure your time zone is correct, and that the time is right when that box is checked. I hope this helps you. I'm glad I got a new phone out of the deal;)
    Chris P. "

As I mentioned in my post, whenever I checked that box the time would be incorrect. It would move up an hour. I've messed with this along time ago, way before I got my iphone. I think this had something to do with the daylight savings change that was implemented this year or last year. I dont remember if I never tried correcting it before, or if I couldn't, but this time I didn't have any problems correcting it. Anyway, since I couldn't correct it back then, I just left the box uncheck and decided that I would change the time manually when the next time change occurs. But it seems to work fine now so all is well.

  • [solved]Catalyst + xorg 1.6 = Has anyone gotten it to work?

After going over the wiki for ATI and installing the catalyst+catalyst utils (9.4) from AUR using yaourt, the device refused to load. Now, I don't have the error on file as I'm not at home. But the question remains: Has anyone gotten this to work?
    (*) 4870 HD Radeon card
(*) 9.4 driver + utils from yaurt/AUR (I didn't.. see official 9.4 drivers anyone on the ATI website, how did we get them?)
(*) no xorg.conf used, just startx to automatically detect hardware. And it worked, attempting to use the catalyst-based driver, but only with red bars and blocks on top of the screen
(*) xf86-video-ati and radeonhd both work fine, but obviously the 3d support isn't so hot, and I'm a huge gamer
(*) latest xorg release from pacman -Syu
(*) Yes, I know official support has ceased
Thoughts? Shared ideas? What are we waiting for, ATI's new drivers or a patched fix? Got this working, anyone?
edit: Yes, I've searched the forums. But there's too much scattered information and not enough to really focus on what seems to be the problem and how to resolve it

  • Laptop to HDTV / resolution problem

When I hook my laptop up to my hdtv and startx, X starts at a wrong resolution, how would I go about fixing this?

You could try out xrandr or lxrandr (a really nice frontend) to set the proper resolution.
    A simple
xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output HDMI-0 --auto
worked for me. Get the right outputs by running xrandr without any parameters.
