[Solved] Changed Graphics Driver/Xorg.conf, Font Size Now Different

Hello,
I just got the Catalyst 9.4 drivers working on my laptop (Lenovo T400) since the open source ones just can't keep up (even with DRI).
The problem is now my fonts are all different sizes (or not loading).
I was thinking this might be because of my monitor settings in xorg.conf.  I've spent a really long time trying to get the catalyst drivers working (I'm doing OpenGL work, so I kinda need them), so I definitely understand why the Arch team took them out of the main repository.  I'm just a little hesitant about changing settings after I finally found a working config.

What are you using to login?
if it's startx, you can do startx -- -dpi 96
if it's a login manager, you'll need to edit it's configuration and set it otherwise.
Thanks for the quick reply.  I'm starting slim as a daemon at bootup inside /etc/rc.conf, then using XFCE4.

Can I change the screen colour and font size?

    Yes. Use an iPhone browser, such as iExplorer, to access your iPhone's file system. The screensaver photos are stored here;
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleTV.framework/DefaultAnimalPhotos
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleTV.framework/DefaultFlowerPhotos
Once you locate these files, you can replace the photos with your own or add more to the folders. Do not change the name of the the folder.

  • Howto change DPI, without xorg.conf if possible?

So, once and for all I'd like to have DPI issue solved
I want to have DPI set to 96. At this size fonts and everything seems at normal size, I don't want to argue about that...
    Practically,
    $ xdpyinfo | grep inch
    resolution: 121x121 dots per inch
    I want it to be:
    $ xrandr --dpi 96
    $ xdpyinfo | grep inch
    resolution: 96x96 dots per inch
I have intel 965M chipset, using the intel driver:
    xf86-video-intel 2.6.3-3
    xorg-server 1.6.1-1
So, when I run xrandr manually, it gets fixed to 96x96 but how to do it automatically?
I think I tried all of the common methods that are advised to this problem, like adding
    Xft.dpi: 96
    into ~/.Xdefaults and ~/.Xresources.
    I also changed /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc into
exec /usr/bin/X -dpi 96 -nolisten tcp
    but no result.
I remember that DisplaySize option in section monitor in xorg.conf used to work but now doesn't. (Not sure however whent it stopped working and if it was also intel driver). I even put
    Option "UseEDID" "false"
    into Section Screen...
I would prefer if this could be done without using xorg.conf cause now I only have Option "DontZap" "false" there.
I use kdm, if that matters.. but the dpi is wrong in all DEs.

Okay, both of the recommended settings work.
    First:
caskale13c wrote:Find the ServerArgsLocal value in /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and add -dpi 96 (or 146) to it.  It will be located in the [X-:*-Core] section.
    Second:
    add
    xrandr --dpi 96
    into /usr/share/config/kdm/Xsetup
For making it work also with an external monitor I had to add
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    SubSection "Display"
    Viewport 0 0
    Depth 24
    Virtual 1920 1080
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
into xorg.conf. This wasn't needed before.
Anyway, now it all works fine
    Thank you, guys.

  • [Solved] Seeking solution to increase the font size in a base install

I recently installed Arch onto a machine with the following hardware/software
    i686 AMD Semprom 3600+
    ATI Radeon RS690 [X1200 series]
    NEC Multisync E1100+ monitor
    xf86-video-ati video driver
    Kernel 2.6.37-ARCH
It works nicely.  That is not the problem - I cannot see well enough to read the very tiny console font.
I tried grub VGA setting but as soon as UDEV got hold of the machine the font went small again.
I tried setfont -h## but I probably do not know enough about that from reading the man page to
    correctly set the font.
I would like to have a larger font size - that is make an "m" triple or double it's default size.
I have tried to puzzle through the boot process but can't seem to get a handle on a good way,
or any way to change this.  I am having problems getting the menus to work in xorg and need to
use the command line to fix the problems.
    Any pointers would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KM … e_too_tiny

  • SOLVED: Created /etc/X11/xorg.conf, now system won't boot.

I was trying to solve an issue with display resolution not sticking and it was suggested to me that I create an /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
I created the file and put in the lines that I had in my .xprofile related to xrandr.
Now... my system will not boot. It appears to get hung up trying to detect my ethernet connection. I tried Ctrl-Alt-F1 to avoid X windowing, no dice.
What's more, my system rescue pen drive appears to have died. I still have my Arch install CD.
All I want to do is delete xorg.conf. My arch root is a logical volume so I have no idea how to mount it after I boot from the Arch install CD, or if I can even do this.
Update: So embarrassing, my mount command was wrong. Once I did something that looked like this:
    mount /dev/VolGroup0/root /mnt/
I was able to get into /etc/X11 and delete xorg. conf. Rebooted and all appears well.

For mounting LVM, this page should probably help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LV … al_volumes
Once in, then it should be easy.

  • [Solved]Howto per user xorg.conf

    Hi,
maybe I should read more about X configurations, but sometime we can find a timely answer on the forum
Sorry but my knowledge lacks a bit on this matter
I'm planning to introduce my wife on linux world , but she likes winXP, Then I found the answer in virtualbox
Now she complain that I set the screen resolution too high for her. In fact X starts with the given resolution by xorg.conf found into /etc/X11 made by nvidia-settings.
How to modify resolution as an user logs in?
Is there a way to load either different xorg.conf or to tell HAL to talk to X to change configuration like nvidia-settings can do on-the-fly?

Well, I don't know how to do it through ~/.Xdefaults, but I would assume that editing ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bashrc or even ~/.xinitrc would due by adding in `xrandr -s <preferred resolution here>'. That way each time a user logs in, it would execute that and change the resolution to whatever user. Sounds slightly hackish though so I am gonna look at how to do it through /etc/X11/xorg.conf and ~/.Xdefaults, however, I doubt it can be done through /etc/X11/xorg.conf also. If I find anything, I shall return to you.

I simply use xrandr to use dual heads like this. Here's my xorg.conf which defines the 2 monitors and their resolutions. Then a simple xrandr command to set up the screens. Works great in i3

  • Is it possible to have different font sizes for different apps in ios 8?

I would like to have a large font for text messages, but when I change the font size, it changes pretty much across all of the standard ios apps. There are some of these apps that the large font just doesn't really work well for, and I would prefer a smaller font for those. Is this possible?

No sorry, What about using Zoom instead? Settings > General > Accessibility
Be sure to read how to use it or you'll be back asking how to get out of it :-)

  • I seem to get a variety of font sizes with different websites, usually very small compared to IE. How can I enlarge these?

Facebook's page is oversized and bleeding off the page. Gmail is a small font, shop.com/pamguttman is a very small font. I've looked at screen resolution but that doesn't change anything.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

    Jack,
Extending Martti's post, you can create an XSLT that will add an element around the ASD2.1 part when you import the XML file into FrameMaker. Then FrameMaker's EDD can format this added element with a font different from the one used in the content element.

  • Default font size is different on 1st page of RTF output.

The default font for the blank lines in the body of my rtf output is Arial 12 pt but in the subsequent pages it it Arial 10. I've set the default font in the xdo.cfg file to Arial:10. It's throwing the formatting off. Can someone help?
    xdo.cfg file entry:
    <property name="rtf-output-default-font">Arial:10</property>

    Hello @mgag,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand when you print to your HP Officejet 8610e, the output is much larger then what you initially try to print from your Computer running Windows XP.
I would first like you to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor > www.hp.com/go/tools
-- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
    Does the PSDR find anything?
If you make a copy from the front panel, does this print fine, or is the text enlarged as well?
Which program or Browser are you printing from?
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thank you,
    HevnLgh
