[SOLVED] Chromium opens PDFs in some crappy version of evince

Maybe a link to something useful?
I'm sorry to repost, but I'm not the type not to search for a solution before posting.  I'll admit that I'm not the best googler (my wife, who has trouble copying and pasting files is much better than I am).  But I did a search in arch forums for "Evince" as suggested, and out of the 23 pages of results I couldn't find a single thread title containing the words "Chromium" and "Evince".
Google gives me nothing but people wondering how to get chromium to open with evince (e.g. http://askubuntu.com/questions/163176/h … ing-evince, but this doesn't work for me).
I now realize that Chromium is opening pdfs in evince-previewe rather than evince.  Can't find anything useful in .confic/chromium.

Yeah I tried just about all of them and none of them had the features I was used to in evince. I found qpdfview by reading a post on these forums too. I really can't give it enough praise.
@WonderWoofy
I liked zathura because it was also very fast but it didn't have the side bars and remember what page I was on etc..etc.. All the bells and whistles that spoiled me with evince. It may have it and I just couldn't find it. Also, it seemed very keyboard friendly vs mouse friendly and when it comes to reading pdf files I am more of a mouse person still (I think the vim user comment is very relevant in this comparison).

To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html

  • I have been able to open pdfs created in older versions of adobe, but not the newest version. Is anyone having issues opening PDFs sent via email created in version 9?

I have been able to open pdfs created in older versions of adobe, but not the newest version. Is anyone having issues opening PDFs sent via email created in version 9? If so, what was your solution? I have PDF reader app as well.

Can you open the files in Preview?

  • Unable to open pdf from some particular shared folder which is not in domain

    Encountered a strange issue here.
We have copuple of users who login with Citrix session.
They are able to open pdf from all the shared folders but not one which is not in domain.
User are able to open all other files viz. doc, excel, notepad and so from that particular folder.
Issue with all the pdf files and not only one particular file.
Double clicking the pdf file starts the process AcroRd32.exe but the file does not open.
If an already running AcroRd32.exe process is there (means if Adobe Reader is already open), then it's possible to open the pdf files from that folder.
Moreover, came across one strange thing.
I created a shortcut to one of the pdf file from that folder within the same folder.
And it was possible to open pdf file from that shortcut but not directly :S
Gives error: "Acrobat failed to connect DDE server" after about 20 mins if we try to open file directly.
Googled a bit and found that issue can be resolved by navigating to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application and changing the Key "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10
But when I navigated to the mentioned registry there was no AcroviewA10 but instead it was just Acroview.
    Adobe Reader version: 9.5.5
I will be really grateful if somebody can provide solution for this.

What happens when you open the Adobe app, then tell it to open the file?
How big are the attachments?  There are limitations to the size allowed to be sent:
    Email Provider
    Size Limit
    Gmail
    25Mb
    Outlook
    20Mb
    Yahoo
    25Mb
Are you sending the files to yourself?  Not sure how you are emailing files from a website...
Are the PDF's password-protected, or some kind of copyrighted eBook perhaps?  Can you email other files successfully, or are PDF's the only files that don't work?
Perhaps using a free Cloud service as an intermediary might work better.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Standard does not open PDFs made by previous versions

Adobe Acrobat X Standard keeps giving an error while opening PDFs saying that "this document requires v7 (or v8) or higher to be opened" making it impossible to open any document that was created with earlier versions. After the message the files open blank. I am using Adobe Acrobat X Standard. Any solutions?
    Thank you in advance!

This alert was created by a JavaScript code (as you can see from the title of it), which someone obviously did not write very well.
You should be able to open it if you disable JS (Edit - Preferences - JavaScript), and then you can remove this code completely (if the file is not secured).

  • Adobe reader XI cannot open PDF created with distiller version 9.4.2

    Hello everybody
I need your help with the following problem:
I created a pdf document once with Adobe disitller Version 10.1.0 and once with Version 9.4.2. With Adobe reader Version XI I can only open the pdf document which was created with distiller Version 10.1.0 but with Adobe reader 9 I can open both documents without any problems.Do you have any idea why?
Thank you very much and best regards,
    Iskierka

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

  • Error opening PDF in 9.1.0 ("Insufficient Data for image") and 7.0.9

I generate PDF documents in code (basically converts TIFF images to PDF, using FOP).
Few of the PDFs can not be viewed on Adobe Reader 9.1.0, and 7.0.9. But, these open fine on 8.0 version.
With 9.1.0 version I get error as "Insufficient Data for image"
With 7.0.9  the error is "A drawing error occured"
8.0 works fine and opens the PDF.
Is there any issue with 9.1.0 for opening PDFs, I got this version installed recently on my system.
Appreciate an early help/views on this issue.
    Thanks,
    Umakant

Try this - from adobe support!
It worked for me and (as it seems) solved a one year long anoying issue.
    1. Exit Acrobat.
    2. Choose Start > Run, and type: %APPDATA%\Adobe\Acrobat\ into the Open text box. Click OK.
    3. Right-click either the 6.0 or 7.0 folder, and choose Delete.
    I deleted both folders.
Dont worry these two preferences folders will automatically be renewed by acrobat!

You should be able to open PDF documents from older versions but from the information given, it'd be tough to figure out what's going wrong. More info = better.

I have had a trial version of Acrobat X1 Pro - I have decided not to buy at this stage - for some time it has been conflicting with opening PDF docs after "saving as" from word 2007 - I uninstalled Pro X1 and now when I "save as" PDF from word 2007 to PDF it will save the document as a PDF but will not open the document to display after publishing - I have to got to where the file has been saved to view the new PDF document - this is really annoying - do I have to delete adobe reader and reinstall it - adobe needs to look at this conflict with acrobat pro as I have even gone it to properties and tried to have adobe reader as the default PDF program - the main issue is that I cannot view the PDF after publishing it from word 2007

Hi.  I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 64 bit.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader,  It worked yesterday.  Today I have job training to do that is due tomorrow morning and I can't open PDF files.  I have to open a guide and read it and take a test tomorrow.  I have deleted and reinstalled the application.  I have rebooted.  I have made sure my PDF's are associated with the program.  Every PDF on my computer won't open and I get the same error message.  It simply says Attempt to access invalid address.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,
    Rave
