[SOLVED] Chromium + pepper = Video @ double speed

I am using the latest stable chromium, with the pepper-stable package from the AUR recommended in the Chromium wiki.
I moved to Chromium as Flash is no longer being developed for Firefox....And Firefox 26 crashes a lot, and randomly, including with all plugins removed. So It's a problem right now.
As the subject mentions....I am getting weird video issues. Usually, the video plays back at double speed, with the associated spastic audio output. Here is an example: Ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smCQ2g9L7PU.
This used to play fine in Firefox with the old flashplugin.
In my porting process, here is what I did:
With no browser open:
a)     "sudo pacman -Rs flashplugin"
a1)    Verified that flash was no longer operating in Firefox.
b)    "sudo pacman -S chromium"
c)    "yaourt -S chromium-pepper-flash-stable"
d)   In chromium: "chrome://plugins" to verify that flash wasn't showing up.
Arch x86_64 (current), NVidia GTX-660, using the nvidia drivers from Arch...extra. (rev 331.20) vdpau is installed in both the 64 and lib32 variants.
I have tried disabling hardware acceleration in the pepper-flash plugin, restarted the browser and retried. I have tried enabling hardware acceleration, restarted the browser and retried.
Playback seems unaffected in either scenario, and remains unusable.
Gnash has never performed properly for me in any scenario where I've tried it. So Gnash is not an option. Gnash has a long way to go until it is ready to be a good drop-in replacement for an official "flash plugin".
So for now, I have to use the smtube for smplayer to view YouTube/major news site videos properly.
I am requesting, please, some assistance in fixing my video playback issue in Chromium.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Dave
PS: I'm curious, why does the firefox community appear to be sitting on their hands when Adobe has made it clear for a long time that Adobe Flash for linux is being abandoned as of 01-JAN-2014? I would have expected some really heavy programming resources to be assigned to gnash to make it better, or write some sort of wrapper for the chromium pepper plugin....for official Adobe support.
Is there another reliable flash playback mechanism that I am missing all together?

I agree with ewaller (the new html5 player for youtube is good) but to answer your question I had a similar issue with pepperflash and if I recall correctly it was related to sound issues. I do not remember which package solved the issue but here is the alsa / pulseaudio packages I have installed:
$ yaourt -Ss alsa | grep installed
extra/alsa-lib 1.0.27.2-1 [installed]
extra/alsa-plugins 1.0.27-2 [installed]
extra/alsa-utils 1.0.27.2-1 [installed]
extra/pulseaudio-alsa 2-2 [installed]
multilib/lib32-alsa-lib 1.0.27.2-1 [installed]
multilib/lib32-alsa-plugins 1.0.27-1 [installed]
$ yaourt -Ss pulse | grep installed
extra/libao 1.1.0-3 [installed]
extra/libcanberra-pulse 0.30-4 [installed]
extra/libpulse 4.0-6 [installed]
extra/pavucontrol 2.0-2 [installed]
extra/pulseaudio 4.0-6 [installed]
extra/pulseaudio-alsa 2-2 [installed]
multilib/lib32-libpulse 4.0-6 [installed]

  • Is it possible to play video double speed?

    Hi All.
Is it possible to play video file or video stream double speed?
I've never seen the flash player.  Please show me the way.
Thanks in advanced. and sorry for my poor english.
    Kevin.

Is it possible to play back video at double speed, but keep the pitch normal?  How about playing back at a fraction of double, say, 150% speed?
No, not that I'm aware. Yes; try Shift+L (for forward play) and Shift+J (for reverse play). Start playback with L, and then tap Shift+L; that should increase speed in 25% increments, and you get a number of steps before it tops out. You can do it from a paused state, as well, and get fractional slower-than-realtime playback--that's very helpful, as well.

  • [SOLVED] chromium-pepper-flash fails to install

I use chromium-pepper-flash and today there was an update, but the install script has errors.
Sorry for the locale, but summarized it said cat and sed didn't find a file.
Probably the chromium-pepper-flash.install cannot find the $_default as it says
    [ -f etc/chromium-browser/default ] && _default='etc/chromium-browser/default'
    [ -f etc/chromium-dev/default ] && _default='etc/chromium-dev/default'
    [ -f etc/chromium/default ] && _default='etc/chromium/default'
    Anyways the installation was successful.

Solved, must edit the path which is missing the first / like this
    [ -f etc/chromium-browser/default ] && _default='/etc/chromium-browser/default'
    ^
    [ -f etc/chromium-dev/default ] && _default='/etc/chromium-dev/default'

  • CS4 Timeline Video Running Double Speed

    Hi everyone!
Maybe someone knows where the problem lies...
I add a video clip (.m2v /mpeg) to encore cs4 and a ac3. I create a timeline with these streams. If i press play to preview the timeline to add chapters, the video is running double speed and is over after half of the time. Audio plays normal.
If i open the same project with the same settings in CS3 it works properly.
Does anyone know where the problem lies?
    Info:
    WinXP SP3 pro
    thanks in advance!

    Could you check with
    Bitrate Viewer
    and/or
    MediaInfo
    what is reported as
frame rate (fps) for your .m2v and mpeg files?

  • Hit Play video plays about double speed

When I play the video I am working on in the timeline, the video starts normal (for about a second) but then starts racing at about double speed. If I turn the external video to off under the "view" pulldown menu, the playback is normal.

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.

  • Nokia 3300 video playing double-speed?!! help!!

    Hello
A couple of days ago i recorded a few videos at a concert on my nokia 3300. When i open them to watch them they play in double-time (really fast) but the audio is normal. It's never happened before and i really want to fix it so it plays in normal speed.
    Can anyone help?!!!

Does it play at double speed with no sound when you watch it on the phone or on a computer ?
If it is on the phone, try switching the phone off and on again to see if that helps.
If it is on a computer you might need to get newer codecs for your media player.

  • [SOLVED] Both stable and unstable chromium-pepper-flash won't install

    Hi all,
I just installed Chromium, but am unable to install Flash. It was recommended that I install pepper-flash rather than flashplugin, since the latter is deprecated. But there is a problem:
chromium-pepper-flash-stable won't install because the link to the package is invalid:
    ERROR: Failure while downloading google-chrome-stable-31.0.1650.57-1.x86_64.rpm
chromium-pepper-flash won't install because the md5 checksum is invalid:
==> Validating source files with md5sums...
    google-chrome-unstable_current_amd64.deb ... FAILED
    LICENSE.txt ... Passed
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!
This leaves me with three questions:
Does this happen often, or is it a freak coincidence that both recommended Flash packages are broken on the first day I start using Arch?
I can probably find the proper package file for chromium-pepper-flash-stable, but what is recommended practice for installing it (if I am in a hurry, or just impatient)? Should I hack the PKGBUILD file myself?
Should I flag these packages as out-of-date in AUR?
    Thanks!

Yes, edit the PKGBUILD yourself. Both the link and the checksum.
Have a look at the comments: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/chro … mments=all Being broken is not an uncommon occurrence for this package.

  • 1st movie uploaded to youtube plays @ double speed

Using a 4-year-old 13" MacBook with iMovie HD 6.0.3 I created a 36-second video which, when uploaded to youtube, has the video playing at double speed but the audio playing normally until the audio gets cut off since the video now has been reduced to 19 seconds in length.
On the youtube help forum I see others who have had a similar problem are being asked for info obtained from a freeware app called MediaInfo which gives all the particulars on codecs, I guess, but that software is not available for Mac.
Afraid I have not kept up to date on movies—am doing this for a friend and have no idea what to do. So far no one has responded to my query on the forum. Any direction would be appreciated.

There aren't any settings in iDVD that would increase or decrease the speed of a video, so you may want to take a look at the Quicktime movie properties to see if it was compressed by cutting the frames per second in half (eg, 15 frames/sec rather than the standard 30 fps).
If the original is 15 fps, you might try running a sample through MPEG Streamclip, iMovie, Quicktime Pro, Roxio Toast... to see if one of those can add frames back into the video so it's the standard 30 fps. I've not encountered this before, so don't fool around with your original and search the archives here and over in the forums associated with the software mentioned.

  • Why doesn't Quicktime play audio in double speed any longer?

Until recently, a person could click on the FF button to play a video/audio file in double speed and hear the audio. This was especially helpful when watching/listening to lectures. Now when you play in double speed there is no audio. What happened? Is there a glitch in the software? I hope the feature is returned to its former design.

Finally figured it out the solution! (This only applies to Mac users.)
Firefox 3.x ran in 32-bit mode and Quicktime 7.x runs in 32-bit mode, so the two programs worked just fine together. The new Firefox 4.x, however, runs in 64-bit mode, so the 32-bt Quicktime 7.x plug-in no longer works correctly.
Luckily the fix is simple: just switch Firefox 4.x from 64-bit mode down to 32-bit mode. Here's how:
    [] Close Firefox 4.0
[] Highlight the Firefox icon in the Applications folder
[] Click COMMAND-i to open the Get Info window
[] Click on the box marked: OPEN IN 32-BIT MODE and close the window
    [] Launch Firefox
You can now save Quicktime files as before, assuming you have Quicktime Pro.
[] After closing Firefox, you can un-check the OPEN IN 32-BIT MODE box so Firefox will once again run in 64-bit mode.

  • Chromium pepper flash jagged image/controls/text when fullscreen

Hi. I'm testing the chromium pepper flash and it seems to be more responsive and more faster than regular flash player. I'm no longer affected by this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=155503 issue too.
But there is an issue. When I go fullscreen, for example, in youtube, I get jagged text and picture. Just like this:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16222427/ARCH/ … 9%3A21.png
Maybe not the best example, because the artifacts are hard to see in this screenshot, but in motion it's pretty annoying especially in 720p+ videos. You can see that the font is jagged and the controls at the bottom look just like that. Anyone getting this too?
I've tried both packages that are in AUR. This occurs only when fullscreen.
I'm using XFCE, latest kernel from core repos, x86_64 and chromium from core repos. I tried chromium binary version from AUR and it didn't help.
Oh, and with regular flashplayer, it's fine, just a bit slower.
EDIT: this is a screen when watching 360p, looks even worse, looks like the picture is not stretched corectly.

Nobody? If it makes this more clear, that one could say that the image gets pixelated.

  • Saving m4a or m4v as new file at double speed

Hi - I know I can listen to or watch an m4a or m4v file at double speed in QT7 using the A/V controls, but is there a way that I can save as or export the file at double speed? I want to be able to replay it at double speed on my ipod.
    Thanks

A/V control settings are not saved with the file except for playback in QuickTime Player (and only that machine).
In order to "trick" the QuickTime Player app to play the fie at double (or any other speed) you need to make a new file. You do this by adding (scaled) your source file with a "dummy" file.
The dummy file represents the "time" you wish for the source file to display at your desired playback speed. I use audio only files to keep things simple.
Once you add (Scaled) to a shorter duration the video and audio tracks will playback at a different speed.
You "extract" via the Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro.

  • Double Speed Rendering in Final Cut

I am having an odd problem with Final Cut 6 that used to just happen when I would export to "current settings" but has now migrated into my preview renderings.
When I render, the video plays back at double speed, and audio renders fine. The result is half the video render is double speed and the rest is black. Very annoying and I cannot properly edit this way.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, when I import my footage, the line is grey and not red and plays just fine.  However, if I export and use "Current Settings" the rendered file will come out double speed.  If I add an effect and it requires a rendering, the preview will render and double speed.  If I can figure out and fix what is doing this, my life will be a whole lot less stressful.
BTW, the funny thing is, if I do NOT export using "current settings" but rather choose HDV 1080i60, it creates the new file just fine. :-/

  • Why do my quicktime movies playback at double speed? Please help

Hello all, this is my first post.
For some reason all of the sudden my quicktime movies that are 2 months old or older playback at double speed although the sound plays back as normal. Any movies that are less than 2 months old are ok. All these videos have been taken with my digital cam which records files in mov. Also any of these files which i convert to flash also play back 2 time faster when i select the converted swf file. Please help as i have hundreds of files which are affeceted. Any new clips i record playback fine.
Also I copied and pasted a problematic video on my wifes newer pc and the clip still has the same problem.
    Thanks in adavance

I think I figured it out.. didn't see that you could choose what type when importing.

  • Imported Clip is Double Speed

Normal clips are normal speed but clips I get from using this video game recorder: http://www.avermedia.com/avertv/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=556 imported as double speed. It plays the clip twice so it goes for the usual length of time. I've tried simply halfing the speed but it doesn't look as smooth and it doesn't keep the nice 59.94 framerate I need. Any help on how to import it properly would be helpful, thanks.

Dave has a point - people here come from different time zones across the planet and expecting an answer within 15 minutes or even an hour is just not a realistic assumption. People do tend to have otehr things to do, including getting some sleep every now and then. Even more so on weekends. As for the matter at hand - are you even sure whatever game you recorded actually achieved the 60fps you claim you need? Yes, the tool may have recorded at 59.94, but if the game's effective framerate is just 30fps on your system, naturally you'll only have recorded the same frames twice and it will look stuttery when slowed down. Perfectly logical. So unless you can make sure your graphics card can actualyl deloiver these refresh rates, you whole workflow is pointless and wrong.
