Thank you!
Hey man,
Sorry to be a pain but how did you figure out that it was 'python2-pillow' that needed reinstalling?
I cant see anywhere in the log that explicitly  states a problem with python2-pillow?

    Hello again
    I think I've solved my problem :)
    I was using database to hold my images. After generating image from database with PHP I didn't destroy the output. So there was segmentation fault with memory. After correcting my scripts everything from 72 hours works fine :)))
    I hope so....

    Thanks!
    But there wasn't such an entry so I have to add by myself
    If someone is curious how I added it..:
    1. Run `gnome-session-propertiers`
    2. Click on `Add`
    3. Fill in
    `Name` with `PulseAudio Sound System` or something like that and
    `Command` with `start-pulseaudio-x11`
    Thats it!

    Edit: just uninstalled cinnamon git and installed cinnamon. All working now.
    Hello,
    Yesterday I wanted to updated Cinnamon, so I used Yaourt to get Cinnamon.. After restarting Cinnamon, I noticed very large icons in the tray (battery and volume), that actually didn't fit..
    I then though maybe I had cinnamon-git before, so I used Yaourt to get cinnamon-git, which then uninstalled the normal version of Cinnamon and installed the dependencies.. Still had large icons.. So I set default settings. Fixed the icons, but now I can't open settings! :S

    Yes I did, but it didn't help.
    I solved the problem now, but it was rather complicated and is only a workaround. If anyone is having the same problem:
    1) I installed the open source drivers and enabled KMS
    2) I copied the efi shell from the arch boot disk to the rEFInd folder
    3) Now everytime I start my laptop I have to start the EFI-Shell (v1) first. This somehow changes the resolution. I exit the shell and start arch. X works.
    I have no idea why this works, but it is the only thing that does. If anyone knows what this means, I'd appreciate your help.
    By the way: Step 3 also solves this issue

  • [SOLVED]Graphical environment doesn't start on boot

    Hi,
    I've tried to change default boot target to graphical, but it doesn't work. I use grub so I tried to edit
    /etc/default/grub
    GRUB_DEFAULT=2
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="Arch"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet systemd.unit=graphical.target"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
    It didn't change anything, so I tried to use
    systemctl set-default -f graphical.target
    But it's not working either. What am I doing wrong? Or what am I missing?
    I know that simple workaround is starting X after log in to console, but I don't want this.

    If you don't wan't to use a DM: Start X at Login and Automatic login to virtual console. Then set multi-user as default target.

  • [SOLVED] X server doesn't start correctly: Connection to X server lost

    I was trying to configure wine on my x64 system and suddenly X shutted down. There is nothing helpful in xinit output, only line "xinit: connection to X server lost". I've got nVidia GeForce 9800 GT, and i'm using nvidia driver. I tried using nouveau, nv and completely reinstalling system from scratch, but nothing helped, I still get the same error.
    Here is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/297106/
    /var/log/Xorg.0.log : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/297107/
    Please, help.

    After some experimentation I've found that I can start X as root.
    Here is Xorg.log as i run X as root: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/299430/
    And here is Xorg.log as i run X as normal user: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/299431/
    The only difference that i can see is "Power Button: Close" when running as normal user. I think that there could be some relation to recent udev update.

    Hi.  After installing the latest Arch about 4 times, I've run out of ideas.  I'm installing on an old pc that has on-board AGP graphics, Aladdin TNT2.  With a wired network connection, I have installed Xorg, Nouveau, Vesa & NV drivers, along with Fluxbox, but it boots to a login prompt.  Since there is no xorg.conf, I tried running 'X -configure' but am told something like "the 2 screens configured don't match the 1 screen detected', so no xorg.conf is created.  So I copied&pasted one from the net from someone who also had a TNT2 card, and tried running X after altered the xorg.conf "Driver" entry.  With both 'vesa' and 'nv' I am treated to a black screen and on interrupting it, see a line saying "error setting MTRR".  Using 'nouveau' in xorg.conf there is no attempt to start, I am instantly presented with a message saying that there was no device detected.
    I have searched & found a few people here that had identical problems to what I am describing,  but unfortunately these posts were of little help to me.  There is one about 'xinitrc' being a likely culprit but I don't even seem to have this  - is there something additional I need to install for this?  I tried creating a text file with a "fluxbox" entry but it didn't have any effect.  What is bizarre (to me) about all this is that I have never come across ANY Linux that has ever had a problem starting an X-server on this pc, so I'm now convinced that it's not a driver issue at all...
    Before I forget, there seems to be a nasty bug in the installation process - after you select your packages, if any have dependency issues (in my case, it was something to do with 'curl') you are immediately 'failed' when you select to install them, even though on-screen it is giving you the option to skip the offending packages, in actuality the "y/N" choice given defaults to 'NO' and you are not even given the option 'cos it goes straight to 'continue' with no chance of any user-input!  I rate this as 'nasty' 'cos after I had spent almost 40min picking my list of packages from the huge package-list, I then had no option but to go through the entire process again, leaving out the packages that caused the problem!  Surely there must be a way of re-doing this without it having it forget all the already-selected packages?

    I'm starting to realise just how little I know about Linux despite having used other distros for about 5 years now - my problem was caused by not having had a desktop-manager installed   It also highlights the difference between using something, and understanding how it operates!
    For anyone stumbling across this with a similar problem, I just installed xorg-xdm - pacman -S xorg-xdm
    That said, with a skeleton-Fluxbox finally running, it's pretty much non-functional - lots of more stuff to install/figure out!  I must say though, the Arch documentation is excellent, once you can find what you're looking for.

  • [SOLVED] syslog-ng doesn`t start,Permission denied (13)

    Hello,
    I have a new HDD. I have copied the system to the new disk.
    Everything seems OK. Syslog does not start.
    Starting Syslog-NG [BUSY] Error opening configuration file; filename='/etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf', error='Permission denied (13)'
    I have tried chmod 666,777 .
    Reinstalling syslog-ng.
    Formating and copying the system again
    I`m confused.
    Any idea what should be the problem.

  • [SOLVED] UEFI-System doesn't start anymore after rEFInd update

    Hi there,
    got some problem with my UEFI system after todays update of refind-efi: Arch doesn't boot anymore
    What have I done:
    At first I did a
    $ sudo pacman -Syu
    During the update I was presented with the usual information concerning copying some files from /usr/lib/refind/*. So I did this:
    $ sudo cp /usr/lib/refind/refind_x64.efi /boot/efi/EFI/refind/refind_x64.efi
    Than I did:
    $ sudo cp /usr/lib/refind/config/refind.conf /boot/efi/EFI/refind/refind.conf
    $ sudo cp -r /usr/share/refind/icons /boot/efi/EFI/refind/icons
    After that I rebooted my computer and was presented with an "Asrock" writing that doesn't change to the rEFInd-screen as it should.
    Question: What can I do now? (And what did I wrong?)

    Hi Rod,
    thanks for your quick answer !
    Ok, you write:

    The 0.6.3 package changes the name of the rEFInd binary from refindx64.efi to refind_x64.efi. This is done because the official rEFInd release uses the latter name, and it includes support scripts that work correctly only if that name is used. Thus, if you deleted your old binary and copied the new one in place without renaming it to the old name, it would stop working, since the NVRAM entry would still point to the old name. There are two solutions:
    Rename the new binary to the old name (refindx64.efi). If you do this, you'll need to keep doing it in the future or eventually do the next thing. Also, this might not work if your firmware has "helpfully" removed the existing entry. Thus, the next option is probably better...
    Use efibootmgr to add a new entry for the new name. The Arch wiki has details on this here and probably elsewhere, too.
    Jepp, I've seen the new name "refind_x64.efi". During my attempt to perform a proper install I did what you assume in your first solution - renaming the new binary to the old name (refindx64.efi).
    After that my system didn't reboot ...
    After that I booted from my USB stick with which I've installed my Arch system. I mounted my system partitions to /mnt, loaded the efivars module and arch-chrooted into the system. From there I copied the new binary from /usr/lib/refind/refind_x64.efi to /boot/efi/EFI/refind/refind_x64.efi and did this:
    # efibootmgr -c -g -d /dev/sda -p 1 -w -L "rEFInd" -l '\EFI\refind\refind_x64.efi'
    /boot/efi is mounted to /dev/sda1
    But even after I did this a reboot only led to the well known green "Asrock" writing - no rEFInd appeared
    Using the efi shell I can see that the boot entries seem to be okay.
    srs5694 wrote:rEFInd 0.6.3 has a known bug that causes it to crash on some systems. Upgrading to 0.6.4 may be necessary if you're affected by this bug. The usual symptom is a system hang, though, not a return to the firmware menu, so I suspect this isn't the problem. If it is, you can grab the official non-Arch rEFInd package and copy the refind_x64.efi file from it over the one on your ESP.
    Hm, seems as if I have to try this ...

  • [SOLVED] libreoffice-calc doesn't start up at all

    I run `libreoffice --calc` from the terminal, and it immediately opens and exits.  Nothing is output to the console at all.
    Running it with `sudo` makes no difference.

  • Nvidia-settings segmentation fault

    I have nvidia 270.41.06-1 installed. And when I try to run nvidia-settings it gives me segmentation fault.
    Anyone else experience this problem? I think it started happening to me only on very recent update.
    PS. I am using KDE 64-bit

    I am on x86_64 also, XFCE4, and it segfaults on me too, here is the log (found in the kernel.log):
    It segfaults only when trying to SAVE TO X CONFIGURATION FILE (xorg.conf) (and does not update xorg.conf)
    nvidia-settings[1617]: segfault at 7f32b3a09ae0 ip 00007f32b3a09ae0 sp 00007fffca33e0b8 error 15
    UPDATE: when I delete the ~/.nvidia-settings.rc  file (in all my user's directories, including the root directory)
    I can then SAVE the CONFIGURATION (as root).  I just made sure aftewards, to save the new ~/.nvidia-settings.rc
    too. (to all my user's directories).
    I didn't have to change themes, or anything else.  Just delete the old ~/.nvidia-settings.rc file from each user,
    including root, then issue # sudo nvidia-setttings and save the X configurations to file.  It worked.. then
    saved the settings to each user's directory (~/.nvidia-settings-rc)
