[SOLVED] Clonning window in extended desktop configuration

Hello,
Does anyone know whether it is possible to clone a window in a extended desktop configuration running two monitors?
I would like something like cloning the displays, but not for the entire screen, just for the windows that I want.
Something like I did on this poorly made image

I made a little script to automate this process.
So one can just run it, select the window with the mouse and the vnc viewer pops out!

Windows xp extended desktop not showing up on 2nd monitor all of a sudden

I've used a 2nd monitor as my main monitor for my T61. I powered down today to move to another location, when I reconnected to my usual 2nd monitor, the screen just comes up blue, the cursor jumps between my 2 monitors, but there is no Windows coming up on the external monitor 2. Usually everything boots up automatically to both of my monitors.......I've gone into Windows XP display settings, extended the desktop - but still nothing - just blue with the cursor either on my laptop monitor 1 or jumping over to external monitor 2. Help?

Try this:
1. Go to Display Settings and set the Display to setting 1. (Multiple Monitors) and exit settings.
2. Press Fn and F7 until BOTH Monitors are Shown.
3. You shouuld be able to select Either or Both Monitors in Sequence.
I replaced my BIOS Battery and had the same problem.

Spaces and problems with windows on extended desktop (Cinema 20")

I have got a MacBook connected to a Cinema Display 20". When I move a certain window (but this is happening maonly with Mail received messages windows) on a certain space, it should open the next messages always on the same display where the space is located (if you have the extended display the space is double) but on the contrary every message comes on the wrong side of the space. This was not happening till some days ago but now it is always like this. Is there any preference file that I can cancel so that the situation can be fixed as it was in the beginning? I hope I have explaind myself... Thanks

[SOLVED] Booting Windows from a desktop shortcut

I'm looking for a script or method that changes the default menu entry for the bootloader and reboots the system, but when I reboot (or shutdown) from Windows, Arch Linux becomes the default entry.
Maybe what I'm looking for is a way to save the previous selection as the default. Is this possible?

Ah, now I remember. GRUB Legacy. It's been so long since I last used it... About 3 years I think. It was great. It did what it was meant to do, and did it well. I use Syslinux now.

5. EXTLINUX now has "boot-once" support. The boot-once information is stored in an on-disk datastructure, part of extlinux.sys, called the "Auxillary Data Vector". The Auxilliary Data Vector is also available to COMBOOT/COM32 modules that want to store small amounts of information.
To set the boot-once information, do:
extlinux --once 'command' /boot/extlinux
where 'command' is any command you could enter at the SYSLINUX command line. It will be executed on the next boot and then erased.
I should probably reboot, press Tab at the "Windows XP" entry and jot it down on a piece of paper or something (on my phone, most likely).

Screensaver eMac monitor while in extended desktop mode?

Officially, eMacs can mirror to an external display but cannot do extended desktop. Since my 2005 eMac's built-in monitor is only functioning correctly at low resolutions (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013835), I'm using a program called Screen Spanning Doctor to run it in extended desktop mode. My eMac is running Mac OS 10.4.11.
*I'm searching for a way to run a screensaver and/or turn off the eMac's built-in monitor while I continue to use my external monitor.* Is that possible? I've configured my external monitor to function as the primary display while the eMac's built-in monitor is the extended display.

I've found a solution to my problem!
I'd forgotten that Mac OS X allows each monitor in an extended desktop configuration to have its own desktop picture. I copied all desktop pictures to a new folder, used the procedure described at http://www.macworld.com/article/51937/2006/07/savedesk.html to copy all Apple screensaver photos to that new folder, and then configured System Preferences => Desktop & Screen Saver => Desktop to use that new folder and change the picture every five seconds. EDIT: I selected "Random order" too.
This won't be too distracting since I'm using an external monitor as my primary display. Also, this solution should require only a tiny percentage of my computer's resources. Thanks again to all of you for your great ideas!

ITunes visualizer and movie on extended desktop

I run iTunes 9 for my live show. I have a projector on stage set up as an extended desktop. I can play a video or visualizer on the screen and when it ends it displays my logo that I have on the desktop. I need to upgrade iTunes for my IPad and iPod but I can't loose this functionality.
Version 9 procedure:
Double click on movies tab creating a new iTunes window.
Drag iTunes main window to extended desktop
Minimize iTunes main window to dock
Click on movie on main screen. Movie plays on extended desktop.
Movie ends and desktop pic is displayed.
Same procedure woks on visualizer. It plays full screen on extended desktop then displays desktop pic when turned off.
With latest version of iTunes the iTunes main window pops out of the dock and is displayed on extended desktop after movie or visualizer ends.
Any way to stop this from happening? I can't have the audience see the iTunes window!
Is it possible to have 2 versions of iTunes on my Mac?

If it shows as 'downloaded' in the Purchased tabs in the iBooks app then it should show on the bookshelf in the app. If you select the My Books tab in the app (bottom left) and then tap the 'collection' name at the top middle of the bookshelf and select the 'All' collection does it then show on the bookshelf ?

Is it possible to assign an extended desktop to be an external desktop for a window's machine?

I have an iMac with Lion and a Windows Vists Laptop and corresponding external monitor on my desk. I'd ideally like to use my iMac as an external monitor for the Window's machine and essentially remove the physical one from my desk. Make sense?
I already have 4 extended desktops created on my iMac and I'm HOPING that I could assign Desktop 4 (example) as the external monitor to be controlled by the Vista machine. I'd like to be able to flip between my Mac OS and the "extrernal monitor'' via the 2-finger-swipe gesture. Anyone have any ideas?
NOTE: I also have Paralles installed with Windows 7 running on my iMac, but I specifically need the Vista machine to have the external monitor, so please do not suggest this solution.

Thank you! While reading these directions, I realized that I have the wrong connector. I have the old Mac Monitor serial port to VGA instead of the MiniDisplay port to VGA needed (didn't even think about this computer not having that port available). I just bought the correct one from Apple, so I'll attempt these instructions as soon as it arrives.
To confirm: I'll be able to run the iMac as the external display and have Lion open simultaneously, right? (Obviously not both on the screen simultaneously, but the ability to "switch" views) Based on the article, the trick is turning the Target Display on/off with the Command + F2 buttons (as opposed to assigning an extended desktop and using gestures), correct?

FF window too large when using extended desktop. Must reboot to return to correct size when I return it to the main screen.

I watch on-line videos on my HDTV by using "extended desktop" and sliding the FF window to the HDTV. The window becomes too large to access the controls to size it, or the top bar, to move it.
I can move FF window back to my pc by minimizing it on the pc toolbar, but when I "restore" it, it restores to the HDTV. I can not move it back to the pc, I also cannot re-size the screen

Hello. Thank you all for giving my some advise but I do not understand any of it.
I'm a bit of a technophobe when it comes to computers.
It is a Sony Vaio and there is a model number on the base of the laptop PCG-71911M. I have tried to look in the Control Panel to see if I can find its specifications but these days the system is too complicated for me to understand.
I did try seek out the information on the internet but just get a French site. Doh!!!
I use Nikon View NX software when I am viewing my images and again if I go to full screen for viewing the image the taskbar 'occludes' the little arrows I use to view the next image. When this happens I just click the little box in the far right edge of the taskbar and ViewNX 'disappears'. When I go back in and click on 'show desktop' it clears the taskbar. I can then easily access the buttons to move forward. Also when I am using PSE8 I have the same problem with accessing the buttons after I have completed my raw adjustments in the ACR window but it allows me to press the buttons with great difficulty if I can 'catch' the edge of the button and the ACR goes into PSE8 properly. I'm sorry that I have not explained myself well. At the present it looks as if the ACR window is too 'large' for the PSC5 window it 'sits upon'. It seems that it does not want to 'sit over' the taskbar. I have eventually fathomed that I can use Cntl and O to open the image (Open Image button) but this is not the least bit satisfactory. I don't know how I am going to access the other options eg 'done' and 'cancel' and 'save image'.

Lost windows extended desktop

I need to access some files (excel spreedsheets) but when I open them, they aren't visible. I "think" they might have been used while in extended desktop, I don't have my adapter to check. How can I otherwise get those windows back? Excel says they're running and opened.

CAn't do that because I don't have another display hooked up right now, therefore Macbook won't show that set of preferences. I don't have my adapter either as I loaned it to one of my schools, good guys finish last...... good thought though, keep them coming.
Right now I'm downloading Open Office, I thought if I open the file in a different app it might display. I could try google docs too I guess.

HT5019 If my second display is not showing up on the graphics display window, yet the second display is showing a mirror image, how can I get it to recognize the second display and allow me to setup extended desktop?

I'm running 10.9.2 on a Power Mac from 2013. I am using two identical HP monitors. I have a Y adapter to connect the monitors. Which I'm guessing means the computer is only seeing one display since there is only one display output.

There are no PowerMacs from 2013. The desktop tower from 2006 on got named Mac Pro. The problem is probably the Y adapter. You need a videocard with two display ports, or two videocards to be able to make an extended desktop from one to the other. If you gave us the Y adapter make and model, we could tell if it supports screen spanning or not.

It appears with different wallpapers, and I can't seem to disable it. Right-clicking brings up the same context menu as outside the ghost window. Nothing in Desktop settings appear to control the appearance of this window. Restarting does not help.
I am not sure when it appeared...

Portege m700 Tablet Extended Desktop Problem

I've looked all over and can't find a good answer to this, so I figured I'd better check with the source! I have a Toshiba Portege m700 tablet PC, which has an LCD monitor connected using the digital cable.
I have the external monitor set as my primary, with the notebook monitor set as the secondary, providing extra desktop real estate to the right of the first monitor.
The problem is that when I use the touchscreen, the mouse controls are only active on the primary monitor (the external one). What I'd like to do is have the external monitor be primary, the notebook monitor be secondary, and be able to drag items to the notebook and use ink, or onenote, or other touchscreen apps on there. I want the touchscreen to control ONLY the secondary (notebook) monitor. Is this possible?
It seems like there should be some way to just instruct the computer to map the touchscreen to the secondary monitor instead of always just mapping to the primary.
However, if there is not, what I did experiment with is having the notebook as primary and the external as secondary, and then using some sort of multimonitor software to manage the taskbar and such to create the illusion of the external monitor being primary. The problem here is that while the notebook is 1280 x 800 resolution, the external monitor is capable of 1280 x 1024, but when set as secondary will go no higher than 1280 x 800. Is there a way to force the external monitor to run in 1280 x 1024 if I'm using it as the secondary?
Is this something for which I need an updated graphics driver? I tried to get a newer version of the Intel GMA, but it actually removed all extended desktop options for me, so I rolled it back. The version it's running is 6.14.10.4837.
Thank you in advance for anyone pointing me to any driver updates, configuration directions, or external software that can effectively manage all these options of extended desktop, screen resolution, and what monitor is assigned to touchscreen control!

I've just tested the "Extended Desktop for Tablet PC" powertoy, and that doesn't solve this problem. With the tablet set as the secondary monitor, when I move the window onto that screen, it just recurses the image over itself, which isn't really useful.
No one has any other ideas about this?

Extended Accounting - Configuration info

Hi all,
My understanding is that the file '/etc/acctadm.conf' is created / changed, whenever extended accounting is enabled / changed. I noticed that this file is not getting created when extended accounting is enabled.
Also is there a function which would return the extended accounting configuration information like providing information that /usr/sbin/acctadm prints out.

Using extended desktop mode with ThinkPad x220

I have an Acer AL2216W external monitor. It has a resolution of 1680 x 1050

When I use extended desktop mode with the external monitor set as the primary display, everything scales properly on both the external and internal monitor.
However, if I set the internal monitor as the primary display, the external display does not fill the screen (there is a big black border around the desktop).
In both cases, the resolution setting for the external monitor is 1680 x 1050.
Is this normal behaviour?

That's how Windows behaves. Supposedly Realtime Soft Ltd.'s UltraMon gives you more precise control over wallpaper under Windows, but I have not used it myself.

Extended desktop lows resolution

Hi all.
First of all i would like to thank you for helping people like me to solve their problems all around the world.
Did someone experiencied this?
I couldn`t set an 85HZ when my resolution was at 1024 * 768 and 32bits color quality. So I tried doing everything I find in this forum and in the nforcershq forum... nothing seemed to work... and finally........ in one try of uninstalling and installing de nvdia drivers, I uninstall the second monitor listed in the device manager, so when I went to the display properties I didn`t have the second display active(Extend Desktop in this device) and 1024*768*32bit*85hz AVAILABLE. There was the simple answer, when activating the second device(TV in my case)the first device(monitor SyncMaster753DFX)refresh rate lowed from 85HZ to 60HZ with no other choices.. the only thing I could do was to turn to 16 bits color Quality to get back the 85Hz rate.
Does someone understand what is happening?
Does anyone know if its possible to correct this situation?

if i understand correctly, yes this did happen to me. i believe this happened when i installed the gpu drivers from the msi site. my refresh was stuck at 60hz. i was able to solve it by changing from -clone- to -standard- in display props. now use nvidia unified drivers with no above problem.
