[SOLVED]Completely disable ati hdmi audio

Since last update of kernel I have problems with my sound.
I have Audigy SE, sound card on motherboard is disabled. But my Ati 4850 (with open source drivers) gives me a headache.
It has a sound card which I cannot disable.
I have tried
this
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … on_Startup
file /etc/asound.conf added this
ctl.dmixer {
type hw
card CA0106
this
http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/856740-post4.html
in file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base I have added
options snd_ca0106 index=0
options snd_hda_intel index=1
this
http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/857294-post8.html
in file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist I have added
blacklist snd_hda_intel
Before update intervention was simple
/boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda6 ro radeon.audio=0
I added "radeon.audio=0" and sound problem was gone, but this tweak does not work any more...
I want to completely disable ati audio driver, does anybody knows how?
Thanks.

Files in /etc/modprobe.d need to end in .conf. That's why your configuration attempts don't take. Your alsa-base example will work, as long as the file is named alsa-base.conf. Hmm, and now that I think of it, even blacklisting snd_hda_intel will work, but again, the file needs to be blacklist.conf

  • [SOLVED] ATI HDMI audio fails when playing videos... fine otherwise.

    On a fresh install of Arch Linux, despite being an amateur at best. I'm using ATI HDMI audio using the open source driver, on GNOME 3. I'm switching to Catalyst after posting this to see if that might help, somehow.
    After adding the radeon.audio=1 to the bootloader, audio on the system began working just fine as long as I restricted myself to audacious (haven't tried another audio player) or the system sound tests. When I try to use VLC, or mplayer2 for that matter, not only does it not play the audio associated with the video but NO audio will pass through the system at all. I have tried changing the audio source in VLC, although default should work... nothing works. Changing the audio in VLC will cause the system's audio to max out. Changing it back to something else doesn't help, but I can change the volume after closing the video programs, and after a few clicks it will go back to the "bloop" sound that confirms volume changes. Everything works fine again.
    I have been at this all day and I am at wit's end. My google searches are getting way too long to be of any help. Any pointers or obvious things that I've missed in my caffeine haze would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • ATI HDMI Audio Not Working

    Hi. I'm trying to get my ATI HDMI audio working. I've followed the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI#HDMI_Audio and running "aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" outputs no errors nor any sound on my TV. Adding radeon.audio=1 to my syslinux.cfg and rebooting results in no changes.
    I have also followed the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … s_Not_Work which also resulted in no changes. One note though. When I select my HDMI sound card in alsamixer, there is only one sound bar shown entitled S/PDIF. I can mute or unmute it but not increase the volume from 0. No idea if this matters.
    Also, I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver.

  • ATI HDMI Audio not working. (Radeon HD 4850)

    Hey, I followed the directions on the wiki here and I still get no sound. I loaded up alsamixer to unmute the sound output (alsamixer -c1) and the only thing I have is "IEC958" (which I unmuted). I added the "Audio" and "HDMI" lines to my xorg.conf file and restarted, etc. I'm not getting any error messages, I'm just not getting any sound. Has anyone run into this before?

  • ATI HDMI Audio 5.0 out

    Hi,
    I have a Intel Atom N270 with ATI Radeon HD 4530-DX9 series with 256MB DDRII video card EEEBox PC.
    It has one HDMI connector for audio/video.
    I'm trying to utilize it as a HTPC but when I plug my EEEBox in to my Denon receiver I can only get audio out of my center speaker in my 5.0 setup.
    (I don't have a subwoofer)
    Where should I be looking to find the recommend configuration settings to get sound out of my other speakers?
    Do you have recommendations for config files?

    I'm not entirely sure how I would go about doing that, or if I would need to considering the command I run to test the HDMI audio...

  • Ati hdmi audio in gnome

    hello all,
    ok i have a problem, depending on what driver i use i can eather have nice graphics and no audio or bad graphics and nice audio,
    if i use the opensource ati driver:
    graphics are nice
    no audio
    if i use amd;s driver the graphics are currupt (depending were its rendering)
    the audio is good
    at the moment im doing a fresh build (again) using the opensource driver and going to play around with some configs.
    if anyone has some ideas for me to try then please share
    thanks
    Phil

    ok still no joy but,
    i jumped onto ssh before i logged into gnome, aplay returned the following:
    aplay -D plughw:2,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
    rather then just device busy,
    so i loged into gnome, then out of ssh, and it done the same on a local terminal
    the only problem is i dont accually hear any sound, but its still a start to nothing i guess

    Hi,
    Try the following.
    Shut down the PC.
    Enter the Bios Menu by tapping away at f10 as soon as you start the PC - ( if the PC just loads into Windows, repeat the procedure but try tapping f1 ).
    Look for the option Onboard Audio and set this to enabled.
    Save the change before exiting the bios menu and when Windows has loaded, check in Device Manager to see if the Realtek audio chip is now listed.

  • HDMI Audio Issue/Radeon Grapics Card [Solved]

    Hello All,
    New user to Arch, been using linux for a little while longer. I'm trying to set my HDMI out as default output, but cannot seem to make it work. I've tried the wiki, forums, and websearches, but none of the methods (and variations thereof) seem to work for me. The hw must work, for I am listening to music as I type via HDMI, but I must go into VLC>Audio Output>HDMI. So if someone could help me out, walk me through it, I would appreciate it very much. I'll post some info below, sorry in advance if it's not everything needed. If you want to assume I am a complete n00b/idiot, I will not be offended. Thanks in advance!

    OK, I think I've got a resolution. I used a combination of several wikis to get it right, mainly:
    ALSA-Gentoo Wiki
    ALSA-Arch Wiki
    ATI#HDMI Audio-Arch Wiki
    Kernel Parameters-Arch Wiki
    I searched a number of other pages I don't remember right now, but these were the most helpful as I recall. I again added "radeon.audio=1" to /etc/default/grub per the "Kernel Parameters" and "ATI#HDMI Audio" Arch Wikis. I then modeled  my ~/.asoundrc to match the Gentoo Wiki example, with a slight tweak to fit my hardware. That file now looks like this:
    GNU nano 2.2.6 File: ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!hdmi {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 3
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "hdmi"
    It's been a few days, with rebooting everyday, and so far so good. Audio programs (eg. VLC) and flash content are working just fine. However, speaker-test & aplay -D give no errors and the scripts run, but no audio is actuallly produced. ??? Is this a problem, or can I continue to ignore it?
    Anyways I consider this pretty much resolved, and hope this helps anyone else with this issue. Cheers!!!

  • Can you select or disable AppleTV's audio output?

    I have my AppleTV connected to the television via HDMI and also connected to an amplifier via optical audio. I would like to disable the HDMI audio output as to not have the sound play through the television, but it does not appear to be configurable in the AppleTV menu. Is this possible?

    Well I'm running update v.4.2.2 I don't have a solid internet connection to update the blasted thing. I have my optical audio plugged in and I'm getting signal lights through the cable but when its plugged into my reciever no sound comes out of my reciever, only the HDMI connection into the TV. I would like to fix it without haveing to jailbreak it and put xbmc on it.

  • 15-n211dx hdmi audio drivers

    I can not get audio to play form my computer to myu tv through the HDMI. The video is coming over fine, but no audio. I believe I need to donwload new drivers for the audio, but can not find them.

    Hi, Eric:
    The AMD graphics driver should have installed the HDMI audio driver.
    You may be able to get the HDMI audio to work by downloading the AMD HDMI audio driver directly from Realtek.
    Accept the agreement, download and install the ATI HDMI Audio Device driver about halfway down the page.

  • 7850 2GB Twin Frozr III HDMI Audio?

    Hi,
    I recently replaced my ATI 5450 512MB passive graphics card with the MSI 7850 2gb. I had hdmi audio working perfectly with the old card. However, with the new card, when I open "Playback Devices" in Sound, the ATI HDMI Audio says "not plugged in". I am using the video through HDMI and should be able to use the audio too.
    I uninstalled the drivers I had on my system for the old card, and downloaded the latest drivers from the AMD website for the 7850. Has anyone else here had similar issues?
    Edit: Adding system specs

    have you tried msi vga drivers for your card?
    Yes, I originally installed the drivers straight from the AMD site. I then uninstalled them using Driver Fusion, and installed drivers from the MSI site. With both sets of drivers I get "ATI HDMI Output" set to "not plugged in".
    I had this same problem with a previous ATI 5450 512mb, but managed to fix the issue with driver updates, but driver updates won't fix it this time

  • [Solved] Issue setting HDMI audio to default

    Hoping I'm not overlooking something very simple here.
    I have a Radeon HD4650 in my HTPC which I'm trying to run the audio through the HDMI output. I've set the kernel parameter "radeon.audio=1" and am able to hear sound through HDMI when I specify it manually within each application (for example XBMC or VLC going to Audio->Audio Device->HD-Audio Generic, HDMI 0 HDMI Audio Output).
    From there I tried to set the HDMI audio as default by following the wiki here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … sound_card
    And here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … s_not_work
    I've tried several combinations within my .asoundrc and asound.conf including:

    slave.pcm {
    @func getenv
    vars [ ALSAPCM ]
    default "hw:0,3"
    defaults.pcm.card 0

    defaults.ctl.card 0
    pcm.!default "plughw:0,3"
    ctl.!default "plughw:0,3"
    pcm.dmixer {
    type dmix
    ipc_key 2048
    slave {
    pcm "hw:0,3"

    Most of these I just copied from the wiki or various forum posts I found and edited the proper device in. These appear to work, as the HDMI card shows up as default in alsamixer (I've made sure everything is unmuted here), but selecting the default channel in VLC still results in no sound, not even from the built in audio (I can change the output to the HDMI option and it works fine).
    I've also tried this which results in no sound:
    aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    Is there something I'm missing here?
    Here's my aplay -l:
    **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 1: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1

    card 1: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC1200 Digital [ALC1200 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    A quick note here: I set this option in /etc/modprobe.d/:
    options snd_hda_intel index=-2
    This moved the HDMI card up to device 0 instead of 1. I've tried everything above as well with plughw:1,3 when that was the HDMI device.

    I seemed to have solved this by following the advice in the Gentoo wiki:
    https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Radeon#Audio_over_HDMI
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "hdmi"
    Those four lines in my /etc/asound.conf work. I'm not sure what the difference is between specifying "hdmi" vs the hardware device "hw:0,3".
    I still get no sound with `aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav` however, `aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav` works now. `aplay -D hdmi /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav` results in an error/warning:

  • [SOLVED]Problem with Realtek HDA and ATI HDMI Default card under ALSA

    I have the usual problem about no audio on flash or VLC. I use Realtek HDA as primary sound card but is not detected as the default one. I checked the wikia, and forum post but no fix. After reading some info on a gentoo page, and some in the ALSA wiki I see both of them uses snd_hda_intel, so I cannot blacklist or use "option snd_hda_intel index=0" I've tried also searching on Google, but not luck. Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks!

    I just added a section to the ALSA wiki page that should work perfectly for you: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Alsa#In_User_Space

  • EDID - Disable HDMI Audio

    Hello,
         I have an early 2009 MacBook Pro that is connected to an external display using Mini-Display Port to HDMI. (HDMI audio is not supported on this model).To enable audio I must use an analog audio cable. The external display will only accept analog if there is no HDMI audio present.  I found a solution for Windows that disables  audio capability on the external display by using a registry EDID override. However, I'm not certain how to go about this process on Mac. I would be incredibly grateful for any suggestions.
    Thanks.

    Solved.
    I'll post the necessary steps upon request.
