My first thought was to wonder why on eath you installed so many video drivers.  That likely would not cause this problem, but it is just silly - and it is a separate symptom of the same underlying problem:
We've now learned that you did not install these drivers, nor the system, but two different people (neither you) have installed and configured your system.  One of these people doesn't even use archlinux, and as you say has "limited knowledge" about it.  Talk about the blind leading the blind ... but you are not blind, you've just opted to close your eyes and not learn anything about your system.
There is no way for us to know what is happening on your system when you yourself are clueless.  You should just start from scratch and do it right following the beginner's guide.  But even this should happen only after you ask yourself why on earth you'd want to use archlinux - it's really not what you seem to be looking for.
As for losing your usb drive ... can't you find another anywhere?

  • Stuck at 'Reached target graphical interface'

    Edit:
An important edit on mkinicpcio. Previously I reported it the other way around.
I went through a complicated process of turning my first single-partition arch install into a Windows 7 dual-boot install (windows first) with separate /var and /boot partiotions.
    Notable stuff:
    0. Now MBR instead of GPT
    1. PArtition order changed
    2. fstab now uses by-lebel (custom unique labels) mounting instead of UUID's
    3. I had problems recreating kernel (initramfs) images. During the last, successful attempt I issued:
    mkinitcpio -p linux -k linux
    instead of
    mkinitcpio -p linux
    (I was desperate )
    4. Since restoring clonezilla image of my arch was braking the existing Windows installation I restored my arch install using
    rsync -ax <source> <target>
This should be a complete list of the stupid things I did.
    Now I get just
    [OK] Reached target graphical interface

  • Stuck on "Reached Target Graphical Interface" GNOME

I was a bit hesitant to post this because I know there are tons of topics about this already, but after several hours of troubleshooting I've gotten nowhere and I really could use some help.
I got Arch installed earlier today and decided I was going to use Gnome as my DE.  I installed gnome and gnome-extra using pacman -S and everything seemed to go fine.  It asked me to chose between something called mesa libgl, nvidia and another option.  I assume these are the drivers; I just chose the default "mesa".
I then used systemctl enable gdm.service.  I'm not sure if something should have happened, but based on other threads I've read it sounds like this should have launched Gnome.
Either way I rebooted expecting it to launch Gnome, but it gets hung up on "[OK] Reached Target Graphical Interface".  The only way out is to Alt+F2 then log in with "root" and my password.
Can someone tell me what logs I can post that can help and how I can get those logs to my Windows boot?  I currently have Windows 7 on an SSD and Arch installed on a second hard drive.  I have no idea how to copy or save the logs to bring into Windows (or if that is even possible).
I just installed Arch this morning with the newest ISO file.

Correct me if I am wrong, but to me it looks like you went straight for Gnome without setting up X, or your graphics card.
I had a quick look at the Beginners Guide -after a very long time-, and to my surprise the Post Installation part had changed. Setting up X and graphic card has moved to
a different wiki page. I am wondering, did you look through this page?
    - If you want your graphic card to work properly, you probably would be better of with the nvidia package.
    - After installing Xorg an de video drivers why did you not just re-enable gdm?
That's exactly what happened.  I wasn't aware I had to configure Xorg or my graphics card when I finished the initial setup.  Thanks for the link.
When installing the nvidia package, do I need to uninstall the previous driver packages?

  • [SOLVED] GDM: black screen after "Reached target Graphical Interface"

    Hi all,
Since an upgrade on my work PC a week back or so, it no longer boots properly into GDM / Gnome. It will boot up to this message:
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface
Then the screen will flash to black and back, then again turn black permanently. I can still go to other tty's. It's just GDM that's being frustrating.
There are no useful logs for either GDM or Xorg - the last log for both dates from the last time things worked properly. Nothing useful in dmesg either. I've already reinstalled xorg, xorg-drivers, gdm, etc., but no luck.
Some guidance would be most appreciated!

I finally found an answer here:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=188434
I've been using infinality-bundle, and those packages seem to have been moved (?) I had to add this repository to `/etc/pacman.conf`:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/un … ity-bundle
Then a system update, and presto!

when i run keynote in the play mode, some times the computer get stuck, why?, when i run key note in the play mode, some times the computer get stuck, why?

    hello,
I had the same issue. This is what I was told to do.
iWork has to be removed completely to be effective when re-installing, you must use an application removal tool to do this or it wont remove every Keynote file.
Appcleaner   will do this and its free.
The following procedure has helped solve many issues with Keynote:
1  Close Keynote then use Appcleaner
    2  Empty the Trash
3  Shut down the Mac, then restart and press the shift key immediately after the startup sound, then release shift when the Apple logo appears
allow the Mac to boot up to the desktop, it will take longer then usual as the hard drive is being repaired
    4  restart the Mac
    5  Reinstall iWork
    6  Repair permissions:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First  Aid:   click on your system disc in the drive column
              and select Repair  Disk Permissions
    7  open Keynote and test

  • HT4889 Source computer getting stuck on "looking for other computers", but target computer finds source computer.

I'm hoping someone can help me get my source computer to find my target computer when running Migration Assistant.  The source computer (late '08 macbook pro running OS X 10.7.5) gets stuck on "looking for other computers".  But target computer (late '09 imac running OS X 10.7.5) finds source computer.  Both show they are connected to same wifi network in System Preferences-network.  Note:  I have tried with both internet sharing on and off.  Note:  Source computer also can't find its external hard drive when plugged in.  Related? Any ideas for either issue?

    Ok, more updates.
In my old Mac (Pro) I have several hard drives installed. I was able to create a Time Machine back-up to a non-system HD. I plan on removing this volume and putting it in an external enclosure as soon as I can find the right cables for that enclosure. Meanwhile....
I saw on one support doc an instruction to open Sharing on the source Mac (my old one, in this case) and make sure the machine had a name specified. I already had done that, but noticed that a specific name based on that was mentioned for other computers to contact it. For example, if my source machine is named "myOldMac", other computers could address is at "myOldMac.local".
I connected the two computers directly via an Ethernet cable and I ran Migration Assistant again. When I got to the "Looking for source" screen, I clicked the button for "Other Server" and entered "afp://myOldMac.local". This actually found my old Mac. I was prompted to enter the password for the account "root". I changed the name to my account's short name -- "raboyle" not "Robert Boyle" -- and entered the correct password and I actually got a list of volumes to access. In the list were: the hard drives (by volume name), the home folders of the user accounts, and the Public Folders for each user account.
I tried accessing both my boot volume and the home folder for my primary account, and proceeded to a screen with the following text: "Choose which backup to transfer information from:". The list provided, however, was empty. On the chance that it was looking specifically for a Time Machine backup, I then specifically chose the HD volume with the backup I had just created. Again, the list to choose where to grab my data from was empty.
So, at least I'm advancing a little bit beyond the "Looking for source" screen ... but then again, since I hit yet another roadblock I can't say whether I've taken one step forward or two steps back.

Does anyone have some experience with this? It's a fairly good sized backup (well, for me at least) so I'd really hate to have to start over every time one fails!

Ok, solved-ish. There were actually 3 issues:
    1. There's a problem in the 0.6.18 new python paraminko ssh internals that was preventing it from uploading more than about 1GB at a time, possibly because it's reusing the same ssh connection which some webhosts will kick off after a certain time or amount.
    2. The --num-retries parameter wasn't being read by the ssh backend
    3. There's a bug in some encryption validation code that had to be removed before a 'resume backup' operation would work correctly (it won't read the GPG encryption key correctly).
So I reverted to 0.6.17 and removed a previously applied patch from the code found here.
So far it seems to be working. The dev who answered me on Launchpad said that there's a memory leak with 0.6.17 so watch out when doing any backups over ~100GB or so.

  • Stuck at Reached Target login Prompts

Hey all, first time using Arch! Just read through and followed the Beginner's Guide. Everything went smoothly, I rebooted but I get a series of messages, each with a green OK, ending with "OK ] Reached target Login Prompts" and then nothing - no login prompt, no more messages, nothing.
    What's going on?
    Thanks.

Just a hunch.  Press return and see what happens.
You may also try using Ctrl-Alt-F2 to switch to the second console and see if you see a login prompt there.
Oh, and Welcome to Arch Linux

Did you enter the new numbers for DNS into the Router?
Did your Mac pick them up and use them, or does it still have the old numbers?

  • [SOLVED] stuck at Target Reached Graphical Interface @ Nvidia/Nouveau

i'm kind of new to linux and specifically to arch, so pls be gentle. i just did a fresh install, all went fine, but here's one thing i'm unable to sort out. i've been having a hard time for a couple of hours now getting the right driver and the necessary configurations for my nvidia card. i went through a number of threads, none provided too much help, so here it is. whenever i try to use the proprietary nvidia drivers, the boot process gets stuck at the
    Target Reached Graphical User Interface
message. i decided to try nouveau then, so i remove the nvidia packages, delete xorg.conf, install the nouveau packages, create 20-nouveau.conf with the content of
    Section "Device"
            Identifier "Default nvidia Device"
            Driver "nouveau"
    EndSection
reboot, but it results in the same phenomenon. from this point on i have to delete 20-nouveau.conf to even get to the login screen. there's no nomodeset in the kernel options by the way.
only the open source vesa drivers seem to work so far. i'm clueless about this one.
(i'm using external monitor @ DVI for my notebook.)
    pacman -Qs nouveau
    local/lib32-nouveau-dri 9.2.2-1
        Mesa drivers for Nouveau (32-bit)

ok, if someone reads this, here's what i figured: realised that i didn't need neither xorg.conf, nor 20-nouveau.conf in the first place in order either driver to be utilized by bumbleebee. if you did nvidia-xconfig or manually created xorg.conf and/or 20-nouveau.conf and encountered the same issue described above as a result, just remove it/them. one trivia about bumblebee - maximum gpu performance gained by the primus render bridge.

  • My pc gets stuck and frozen when i try to disconnect

its already a few days now that i try to log out from my itunes account, and when i press the log out button my computer gets stuck and freeze.is there someone out there that can help me to solve the prob..thanx

i am sorry to say but there is no way to undo a software update to go back you have to go threw your phone provider and have then do a replacement on the phone and just not do the update. when they receive the phone they will send it off for testing and to have the bugs fixed

  • Why does my ITunes now get stuck when it can't find the album art?

I've noticed since yesterday when I bought my new IPod Touch my ITunes on my computer gets stuck when it can't find the album art for some music I have. It gets to that album and won't do anything, won't let me skip it or anything ... Anyone else having similar issues and if so any workaround?

    Hi joanhello,
I understand that you are seeing an issue with iTunes fetching information about CDs you are importing. Here is an article for you that explains how to troubleshoot this issue:

    Is your data backed up?
If not, and you can't boot your machine, a data recovery may be needed:
My data has become inaccessible, and I don't have a backup!
If your data is backed up, and the hard disk isn't too full, look at these reasons for slowing down, which may also affect installation of new software:
