[Solved] Constant Disconnects/Timeout with ASUS USB-N13

I don't have built in lan/wifi in my laptop because the chip was fried during a storm so i'm completely dependent on my ASUS USB-N13 wifi for internet.
From the time i was running the install (2 days ago) i've been unable to keep a consistent connection to the internet as it always gets disconnected. It doesn't show it getting disconnected, it just times out.
I've read about everything I could find and am still just absolutely stumped. I'm no linux guru but i've never had such a frustrating time with anything in linux. So much to my dismay i'm making a post about.
Archlinux has picked up the stick without problems from the get go so I haven't installed the driver because most of what i read says the default should be good enough.
It was timing out when retreiving packages for the install as well, but after about 20 minutes of failing to reach the mirrors it would kick back on and continue downloading. Same happens in the gnome now unless i manually disconnect and reconnect from the network, disable or enable the usb dongle, or unplug and plug in the usb dongle.
Im not sure what else to say other then i'm now using network manager in gnome to handle it now.
Heres what i get with dmesg

  • SOLVED (?): my problem with HotSync (USB, Zire 72 and Win XP)

As noted in many other messages, it is not uncommon for the HotSync to fail with USB connection when the "Local USB" option disappears from the manager menu.
I noticed this earlier today and like many others had information that I needed to transfer via USB to my computer.
After a number of false tries, I saw a message about using Device Manager to check the status of the handheld.  In my case, the device had a yellow blob with a "?" on it and when I right-clicked, it said the driver was not available.
Following another post, I located the drivers and used the Hardware Wizard to update the driver.
This was not straightforward to me and I am posting to mention what worked for me.
The problem is telling the Wizard what file to use or ALTERNATIVELY where to find it OR what type of driver file to look for.
In my case, I told it to look in the palm directory (this is wrong, it is in the USB_Drivers subdirectory and I didn't realize it, or the Wizard didn't let me go to the subdirectory level).  The Wizard did not allow me to click OK (greyed out) and so I tried the alternative of looking by TYPE.  Here it displayed palm handheld as one type and I selected this, but again the OK was greyed out.
I took another look at the choices and selected ports and com (probably kind of an obvious choice for a USB connection <g>) and this one came up with a specific .sys file and I was now able to click OK.
The Wizard went through an install and afterward, I tried hotsyncing and it worked without a problem.
I believe the problem is caused at least in part because the Palm Install program doesn't install the driver in the subdirectory (in Win32?) where Win XP expects it.
Since the file is now in the right place, hopefully it is a real (permanent) solution.
Thanks for the messages others posted that helped me (hopefully) fix this.

    Post relates to: Zire 72

Do you have the latest system driver updates.Think the latest update (version 2.78,updated through Live Update or the verion at nVidia website) does address that issue. I updated, however, I do not have any 2.0 devices so I am not sure that my 2.0 is working. They work fine for me at 1.1.
There is also a USB 2.0 patch version 5.1.2600.1106 available on Live Update as well. I have already updated that as well

  • Constant disconnecting with my WRT120N

    Hi
I have a problem with my wrt120n. I'm having a constant disconnecting problem.
I don't have any problem with the wireless computers connected to the router but the wired one keep geeting disconnected. I'm loosing the internet many times a day on thiis one. Like I said the wireless is ok.
My old router on my computer ( wired) was working well before I installed the wrt120n.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you!

This is a problem of the Linksys/Cisco WRT120N product itself.  The team from Cisco/Linksys is very irresponsible. Why i say so ?
The 802.11n signal is not certified to be supported but yet they have included this support in this router.  By doing so, it causes this related problem that most consumers must be facing now or in the past.  It is a shame that such a big company operates and sell their products this way.
The solution:  It does not have anything to do with MTU, beacon interval etc....  Just use Mixed BG wireless signal instead of
Wireless N only when you goes to Manual Setup.  I am sure that this solves the problem.

Obviously, syncing an iOS device with iTunes over USB is still supported in Mavericks. Calendar and contact syncing with iTunes is no longer supported. That has nothing to do with your problem.

  • Router Console Connect Problem With Mini Usb (1941 Series - Os Win7 64Bit) (SOLVED)

I can not connect console with mini usb, my router is cisco 1941 series and my os win7 x64 help me please ?
    My problem was solved thanks to this topic;
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11492306/usb-console-driver-install-failing#comment-9697916

    Hi,
Here is how I have managed to enable the communication with the 1941 using the usb A-B cable:
Download the usb console driver 3.1
Install the x64 version on your PC (as administrator)
    After the installation was completed:
Open the Device Manager. There will be a new entry named “CiscoUsbConsoleWindowsDrive”. Expand it and select the “Cisco USB to Serial adaptor”.
From the drop-down select “Update Driver Software…
In the “Update Drive Software” dialog select “Browse my computer for driver software”
In the next window, a driver location should be displayed, if not browse your PC and find the …\Windows_64 folder where you have extracted the 3.1 driver.
After the driver software was updated, there should be a new entry in the “Ports (COM &LPT)” named “Cisco Serial (COMx)”.
You can configure the port here:
    Right click on the “Cisco Serial (COMx)” and select “properties” and set the properties to this;
    Bits per second :9600
    Data bits              :8
    Parity                    :None
    Stop bits              :1
    Flow control       :None
The new COM port should be ready to accept the connection with the router.
I am using Tera Terms VT, and it is working well with the above driver and settings.
Should you wont to use the Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) download the 2.7 version and make shore you have the current Adobe Flush and a current Java installed on you PC.
    Hope this will help.

    Hello, give this a try...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222

(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Constant disconnects with Linksys BEFW11S4/Westell/Bellsouth Ultra DSL

I recently upgraded to the 6mb DSL service from Bellsouth.  Previously I had the 3mb.  Anyways everything was fine for sometime even with the faster service.  The last few weeks I have been having constant disconnects(several a day).  Naturally the wireless lite on my Linksys BEFW11S4 goes out each time.  I then un-power the router then re-power and I'm off and running again.  I am using a westell modem.  Bellsouth tells me that its not them since i do have an internet coneection and referred me to Linksys.  After several live chats(due to disconnects and then having to start tellin my issue all over again) they had me upgrade my firmware. Well did that and problem hasn't changed.  I've played with the different router channels and they don't seem to help as well.  Bellsouth told me that I had a static ip, so I tied setting up router that way, but then i got no connection.  Unil reently everything was fine, this just started!   Any help is greatly appreicated.  My 17 yr old daughter is going through internet withdraws upstairs!

If you are on DSL using a Westell Modem; make sure you ask your ISP to bridge the Modem first and use the PPPoE fucntion on your router. Change the LAN IP of the router to something else like 192.168.2.1 so it won't get a conflict with the IP of the Westell. Then if you are on cable, you can try adjusting the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1300, or 576 then check which value would get your connection stable. You can reset your router right after you upgrade it also, then reconfigure it again. Hopefully yell be fine after that!

  • Constant disconnects with wireless router.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have a WRT54G wireless router with speed booster. I am experiencing constant disconnects when online gaming. I have one PC - running windows vista 64bit ultimate. This computer is running a wireless connection which is secured and is about 10 feet from the router through a wall.
I also have an xbox 360 with a wired connection. It doesnt seem to have the same issues but does become a bit sluggish at times.
I have called linksys and they instructed me on how to upgrade to the latest firmware. I think it is 7.5.0 or something. Still having issues. Cox (my ISP) has been out and says I am getting a constant 2mb download.
Any help would be appreciated. I have talked to linksys again they have me pull up cmd and run a test which shows me at a 4-10% packet loss. They say this is an acceptable rate.
Still the problems continue. If anyone can help I would be very greatful. If you need more info just let me know and I will provide whatever I can. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a vista problem, they are breading like rabbits it seems. The WRT54G is a good router, I had one for years with no problems. What type of wireless card do you have in the pc, and is it PCI or USB

  • Can I enter BIOS with a USB keyboard on a Thinkstation E20 with USB legacy disabled?

    Hi,
My Thinkstation E20 with XP SP3 won't boot up with an external HDD connected to its USB. Tried various things:
    1. Changing boot sequence so that the USB-HDD is behind the internal HDD
    2. Excluding USB-HDD from the boot order
    3. Using a different USB-HDD
But all this won't work, after the motherboard boot, I get a black screen. The system boots normally with the USB-HDD disconnected.
So as a last option I would like to disable USB legacy support, but I am worried that I won't be able to use the USB keyboard anymore to enter BIOS. As the Thinkstation has no ps/2 port this could be a real issue down the road.
Microsoft info is that on most system you should be able to use a USB keyboard during the motherboard phase even with USB legacy disabled, but I can't find if theThinkstation can do this?
    Does anyone know/tried it?
    Thanks for your help,
    Andre

    welcome to the forum!
you'll always be able to use the keyboard to access the BIOS.   after all, if a system could completely lock out the keyboard then you'd have no way of unlocking it.
what port(s) have you tried connecting the USB HDD?   if you've only tried the front, try a port on the back and see if anything improves.
what brand/model USB HDD are you using?

  • MSI E350IA-E45 boot/post problem with some USB devices

    Hi,
My new mainboard E350IA-E45 with BIOS ver. 1.4 has problems "BIOS problems" booting/posting when I connect a USB IR Receiver from CyberLink and also with a USB wireless adapter model USB-N10 from ASUS, using USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports.
It does the problem with one of the two devices or the two at the same time connected.
With the Logo disabled, I only see a number (not always the same) at the bottom right of the screen when I boot/reboot, and I cannot enter BIOS. If I wait a while, about half a minute Windows starts and other times not ( I'm not sure at this moment).
When this happens (not booting/posting) if I remove (while powered) these devices the motherboard posts immediately and normal operation is back !
When none is connected, it works without problems.
Does anyone have a solution or explanation for this behavior ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Quote from: Bas on 13-October-11, 15:28:28
How can you call this explanation "working fine" ??
Your powersupply is just 75W, anything can happen with so little power.
As said before, test the board with a 300W powersupply and see if it solves it.
I bought this Mini-ITX case to have a silent HTPC, its height is 62mm, so where do I put a power supply of 300W using this case if the problem realy "is" the power adapter ! Sorry to say that, but for me it's not the power adapter.
When I BOOT it, my power meter indicates the maximum value and it's between 25-30 watts, and you say that a 75W external adapter is not enough and what about netbooks or nettops with Zacate inside with similar adapters !
Can you explain to me why or how it fails to POST in few seconds (or no POST at all) with one of these devices that has a tiny power consumption. And why it POST with a external USB HDD ! It makes no sense to me.
Anyway if there is no solution to this problem (maybe BIOS update), I don't mind very much to wait about 20 seconds until it POST with the two devices connected, because after that I have no other problems.
    Best regards.

  • Problem with detecting USB devices.. something abt ehci-hcd??

    Hi All,
I have a DELL E6410 laptop. I have a problem with connecting USB devices.
Whenever a power event (such as connecting/disconnecting of AC adaptor) happens, my laptop stops detecting any USB devices and any changes that happen on the USB ports. That is, say an external mouse is connected to the laptop, the mouse stops functioning, and if I connect a mouse/USB_stick or any such thing to the computer, the device is not detected.
dmesg output show that any connecting/disconnecting events are not detected by the computer. lsusb output too shows the same thing.
To solve the problem, I need to rmmod the module ehci-hcd and modprobe it back. That is, I have to run the commands rmmod ehci-hcd followed by modprobe ehci-hcd. Then, this problem goes away until the next power event happens.
This event does not happen all the time, but it happens very regularly.

After this the the mouse goes dead (the light on the mouse also goes off).
If I disconnect the mouse at this stage, there is no change in kernel.log. If I the mouse back too, there is no change in kernel.log.
Now, when I turn the AC adaptor on, this is the output on kernel.log

At this point, the mouse comes back to life (its light begins to glow) and I can move the mouse pointer on the screen.
The output of the grep command that rwd gave is too big (16000 lines) to be pasted here..
    Thanks,

  • Constant disconnect/reconnect and tons of errors.

Ijust got a brand new iphone 4, and just installed newest itunes fresh a couple of days ago.
The computer is running windows xp pro, and was just recently reinstalled about a month ago.
When I plug my iphone into the computer it will start to sync and then stop an give me an error either about "error reading device, iphone not connected," or an error with a hex code, or all of the above and others.
    Heres what happens
I plug the phone in, the battery icon changes to a plug, then the lightning bolt, then back to normal, the phone tells me charging is not supported with this accessory, and sync in progress.
Windows pops up the autorun menu and asks me what I want to do with the connected camera, open it in word, or scanners and cameras.
Itunes also opens and starts the sync process, it shows syncing on the iphone.
then after backing up and copying some apps, the iphone goes back to the home screen as if it was unplugged, the sync stops and gives me errors.
I'm getting extremely frustrated with this too. If I leave it plugged in I constantly keep hearing the whistle noise the phone makes when it's plugged in, and windows wont shut up with the usb device plugged in/unplugged sound.
It will just keep disconnecting, trying to sync, failing and doing it all over again until I unplug it.
I've restarted the phone, restarted the computer and it still does this.
Do I have to unplug all of my other usb devices? it totally gets confused if I have a flash drive or another phone (my ROKR E8 or RAZR) plugged into the computer.

Sorry to tell you this but the iPhone is not a storage or backup device! Occasionally it will have problems, an app may be corrupted and cause problems! Because of this you will need to do one of the three (restart, reset, restore). You really need to backup everything on phone somewhere on your computer or a backup drive! Old phones stored contacts on the Sim... the iPhone doesn't... If you rely completely on your iPhone backup you may be sorry because that can get corrupted also!!
Again sorry to tell you this but having an iPhone when you dislike iTunes and refuse to backup (besides iPhone backup) is a bad decision... Not backing up is a bad decision with any smart phone!!! They're no longer plain old phones!!!
