[SOLVED] corrupted display after graphical mode

Hello,
I am new to ArchLinux.
After Installing the system, I followed the instructions on wiki.archlinux.org and managed to launch the graphical mode (xterm and even KDE).
However, it seems that after exiting the graphical mode, my screen is corrupted (I suspect that text console becomes corrupted during launching graphical mode but it is not visible until returning to text mode).
The Linux itself works properly (f.ex. alt+ctrl+del works ok).
I added only exec xterm to the ~/.xinitrc file and I am using MSI netbook with intel graphics card.
I attached two pictures describing the problem:
http://kdiablo.hostit.pl/img/DSC_0045.jpg
http://kdiablo.hostit.pl/img/DSC_0048.jpg
And logs from xorg:
http://kdiablo.hostit.pl/img/Xorg.0.log
I would be very helpful for any help!
Cheers,
KK

I checked my graphics card as you advised.
# lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0b)
I also found in the netbook's specification that:
CPU: Intel Atom Processor N2800/N2600 Series
Graphics: Intel GMA 3650
I could assume that indeed, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_GMA3600 would be the proper driver for me.
However, based on information from the website, the kernel version - 3.17.2, and the xorg version - 1.16, I am quite worried if I can try to install these drivers.
Are there any newer versions/similar drivers available?

  • Macbook Pro no longer support Apple Cinema Display after graphic update 1.0

I recently updated my system to ver. 10.5.2 and after that I updated to graphic system 1.0. After that my macbook pro began to have several problems dealing with my 23" Apple Cinema Display.
1- if started in 'closed lid' mode it gives me a kernel panic (shaded screen) error during start up
2- if started in 'open lid' mode it boots fine but whether i decide to close the lid it fails to wake from sleep mode. It starts for one or two seconds and then it gets back to sleep.
So, I made a long time taking test during the weekend and after several "archive and install" I found that this issue is related to the leopard graphic system update 1.0. Somehow this update mess up the way that macbook pro deals with my Apple Cinema Display.
I hope that someone at Apple will address this issue toward a solution in a short time.
I appreciate any other experience in this sense by anybody.
    Thank you for any reply.

  • Corrupted display after good night sleep

Hi all I just bought MacPro few days ago along with ACD 30. twice after waking the computer up from sleep the display have looked like this
    http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=274475339&size=o
The only way I have found to get it normal again is to restart the computer.
My display card is Gforce 7300.
I bought the computer with ATI1900 but accidentely got it with the Gforce so I´m now waiting for the replacement card. I will not do anything about this until the new card arrives and I have checked if the problem will still be with that card.
If anyone else has had this same issue I would be interested in knowing if he has been able to fix it.
    MacPro 266, 4gb ram, DCP 30   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   PowerMac 7100/66, Color Classic

I see in another thread you have your ati1900 card. I have a similar prob:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=654938&tstart=30
I call them "The Blue Fuzzies".
I've had apple replace the power supply for the monitor, and didn't have any further problems for about a week, but they came back.
So that leaves the graphics card or the monitor. I had reseated the GC, but that didn't do anything.
Another issue is that so far, a few times when starting the computer in the morning, the monitor will not come on. Instead, the white power light flickers in sequences of three. The third flicker stays on the longest.
To resolve either issue, I have to shut down the monitor, and unplug and replug-in that odd connector on that small white power box that comes with the monitor, (the "DC" cable).
According to the monitor manual, the white flickers are a code. For two short flashes followed by a longer one, is indicative of a backlight issue on the display.
Do you recall any flickers on the monitor status light when you had the 7300 card in? (It's at the lower right hand corner)
I'd be interested in knowing if the ati card resolves your issue, as I might have to replace the 7300 card as well as the monitor.

  • Not detecting external display after waking up MBP from sleep mode

I am a recent owner of a MBP and enjoying it. However, one problem that I can't seem to find a solution to is the external display problem after sleep mode.
When I first boot up the Mac and plug in my Dell external monitor via the mini adapter, there is no problem with detection or display. However, every time I put the MBP in sleep mode and then wake it up again, the external monitor does not "wake" up and my MBP only displays my normal screen on the Mac.
I tried to 'Detect Displays' to no avail and the only solution is unplugging the mini connection and plugging it back into the MBP for the MBP to re-detect the external monitor.
Although this is a quick fix in itself, I do not want to wear out the mini port by doing this every timeI come out of sleep mode. Any solutions so that the external monitor will detect the MBP waking up from sleep and display properly? Thanks!

    And same problem here.
Using a MBP 2.66 i7 with a Dell 3008WFP that's connected to the MBP through DisplayPort. It works some of the time but once in a while (only been using the new MBP for a couple of days now) the monitor won't come out of sleep mode. Turning it off/on causes OS X to completely ignore the monitor. I was able to get this setup to work again by pressing 'Detect Displays' in the System Preferences pane but most of the times that doesn't help. The only sure way to get the monitor working again is by booting into Windows through Bootcamp, Windows is able to use the monitor, if I reboot after that OS X sees the monitor again.
Also saw a magenta line/stripe on the left side of my monitor and the monitor sometimes makes a buzzing sound when connected to the MBP through DisplayPort. That's what you get by using bleeding edge tech I guess :\ Only alternative is buying the mini-DP to dual-DVI connector but paying $99 just to be able to use an external monitor is rather insane. Besides that lots of users are having problems with this adapter.

    Hi guys,
Just set up my first install of Arch and I'm loving it. Just I have one Problem; I installed the Nvidia drivers as per the wiki for my nvidia 6800gt, but after changing my driver from "nv" to "nvidia" I no longer get any visual feedback from x; "Sync out of range" is shown on my monitor.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro Retina screen display pixilated graphics when using the finder?

While this started just after the latest OS X update, each time I use the finder now to locate a graphic to upload, the graphic appears extremely pixelated. It does not matter which application I use to search and upload a graphic file, the graphic appears smaller and bleeds out. I just purchased the new Video Motion Pro video editing software, and every single graphic I upload to this application is pixelated. Has anyone else had any problems with their retina display after the last update?
Here are some examples of hi resolution graphics that now appear pixelated on my Retina screen:
    http://www.screencast.com/t/dlxwi80x
    http://www.screencast.com/t/WhG1h5dBh
If anyone is aware of an application or Apple software test that allows me to check my graphic card and retina display, please advise. I have performed multiple disk utility checks, restarts, etc., but nothing seems to help.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Frequent issues after Tablet Mode and Suspend in Windows 8.1

    Hi,
I bought a Yoga 2 Pro running windows 8.1 in December 2013. The machine runs fine, but from the beginning I experience frequent system issues whenever I have the Yoga in Tablet mode (display turned to the back).
The issues sometimes arise directly after I resume from tablet mode. More frequent the issues appear once I had the machine in tablet mode and after had it in suspend mode!
Some of the frequent issues that arise after I resume from tablet mode:
Power surge at right USB Port, where I have my mouse connected! The connected device cannot be provided with enough power. (Note, the left port still works), or
WiFi not working any more (No WLAN device detected, WLAN not functional), or
Bluetooth not working (No Bluetooth device detected, BT not functional)
All issues reliably disappear with a system restart!
I have already updated my drivers, scanned the Lenovo and Microsoft forum whether this is known without success and hope this avenue will bring me more luck.
What makes the bug hard to narrow down is that I do not have a recipe to reproduce the error. Not every time I turn the display in tablet mode the symptoms are equal! But what I can is that the tablet mode is the most common denominator I found so far.
    Any helped/suggestions much appreciated.
    Regards
       Florian

Yea, great... it seems like these articles and suggestions come up in the forum, and then there is always someone that says "it didn't work but this solved it for me" which ammounts to setting the screen at full brightness all the time.   LENOVO, HOW ABOUT FIXING THE ISSUE!!!  It definitly has something to do with power, in my case _the only_ thing that fixes it is either plugging in a power cord or closing the screen, reopening it and hitthing the power button to turn it back on (both are REALLY annoying if you're trying to get work done).
I'm a fairly experienced IT guy, and I used to swear by _IBM_ Thinkpads and related laptops, then when they went to Lenovo a few years ago it seems like the support has gone to hell and the hardware appears nice but is sketchy (this thing should have never shipped with this display problem or the wifi card issues that it shipped with).   Honestly if issues like this don't get resolved Im not likely to order any more, ever.  Not for my self or for my organization, we will stop persueing contracts with you and certifying the hardware for our work (though with the lenovo purchase it was deemed that the hardware wasn't certifyable for certine applications anyway).  Yes, that will cost you a few thousand sales a year, which is  a drop in the bucket for you, but I'm sure I won't be the only one.

  • T430 screen flicker in Discrete Graphics Mode (BIOS)

I recently bought a t430 with both igpu and dgpu 5400m and I'm loving it.
When I first received it I tried to connect it to a TV but it had issues which I later found was due to Optimus. So I followed a solution that suggested that I switch the BIOS Graphics mode to 'Discrete Graphics' instead of 'Optimus (default)'.
But when I changed to Discrete, I get an artifacted Flicker on the screen whenever there is a hardware acceleration (not sure if thats the right word for it).
For instance if I move a folder window around the desktop, the moment i start moving it and hardware acc kicks in, i get this flicker. Then when I let it go and hd-acc turns off then I get anoter flicker on the screen. I can reproduce the flicker everytime I maximize and minimize a window/page that has animation/high fps content. If I run a game on it then the flicker occurs only once at the begining, and repeats after i minimize/exit the game.
I tried fraps to capture it and whats funny is that when I play that capture on my laptop I can see the flicker, but when I run the same video on my Desktop, i dont see any flickers in the video at all. Could be my laptop flickering to the Video Playback.

    engr_ali,
Are you connecting via external VGA or displayport?   If you have tried driver and setting changes as suggested by others, and if you are using a VGA connection, see if you can connect your external display via the display port connection to see if the symptoms go away.

  • Turn off adaptive display for AC mode

    Hi,
I am in curiosity of how I can turn off adaptive brightness display for external mode.
    http://i.imgur.com/nnDnd9Y.jpg
I have already turned it off from Power Options in Control Panel. At first, this did not work alone to turn adaptive brightness off so I also disabled Display Power Saving Technology for battery mode from Intel Graphics Control Panel.
This works like a charm for battery mode but adaptive display is still active when on external power and I could not find an option to disable it in Intel Graphics Control Panel, there isn't Display Power Saving Technology for external power.
    http://i.imgur.com/WtLe6kB.jpg
So, how can I stop adaptive brightness for AC power before I go blind of the abrupt changes in brightness when I'm plugged in to the wall?
    Any help is appriciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi @yldzanl ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15 Notebook and wanted to turn down the brightness on AC mode. On your first screen shot it shows you under the Edit settings. You will notice adjust brightness one for battery mode and the other for AC adapter, they are not the same.
Change this to be the same for battery and save settings.

  • Picture files only partially display after being published

Recently .jpg and .png pictures I have created only partially display after being published.  I've tested it using Paint, Publisher and Gimp with mixed results. The pictures display correctly when I view them locally on my pc.
Here are the test pictures I made in each program:
    http://www.bgchamber.net/images/GimpTest.jpg
    http://www.bgchamber.net/images/PublisherTest.jpg
    http://www.bgchamber.net/images/PaintTest.jpg
The only pictures that fully display are those that were taken from a camera, but after I resized one in paint, it also didn't display properly. My question really is, is this an issue with Microsoft Expression Web or with the server hosting the files?

Publisher is NOT a photo editing program. Neither is Word. Nor is Paint.
You need a real, and simple, photo editing program. Paint.NET is a good, free one. I find GIMP cumbersome (but it's batch processing is handy). And your graphics aren't being created and saved properly. For example, the events.html page has graphics on it
that total well over 3 MegaBytes! Pity the poor soul with a wireless connection. The graphics on the events.html page are largely illegible, and as such serve no real purpose (and make the site look bad).
Let's take an example...on the home page gallery is a graphic for the 2015 Chamber Scholarship. It's displayed at 525 x 340 pixels, yet the image sitting on the server (and which must be downloaded by the visitor) is 1275 x 825 pixels. So you have an unnecessarily
large graphic taking space on the server, having to download to the visitor's computer at full size, and then be shrunk by the browser to only 17% of the original area. That file should be created and saved in a proper graphics program at the final size you
plan to use (and in this case, use PNG format). The larger file takes at least 5 times the storage space on the server as a properly sized file (and takes 5 times as long to download and upload).
I've superimposed the display size on top of the full size and shrunk them down to display here in the forum. See below.
All the graphics that I have checked on your site have the same problem, and if your site has been up a long time and you haven't cleaned out the old files on the server, you may have run out of server space, which would corrupt the new files.
Smaller files will also upload faster and more reliably. Plus--browsers stink at resizing graphics. Do that in a proper graphics program to get the best quality.
Use JPG for photos, GIF for hard-edge graphics with few colors and no gradations/shading, and PGN for hard-edge graphics with full color and gradations/shading. And make sure you are saving the images in the proper version of the format (RGB for web).

  • Corrupted Display of Ovi Map Guides - N8

When I open any of the Online Services (city guides, Qype, weather, etc.) in Ovi maps on my N8, the information displayed is corrupted with big graphic blocks and the text formatted in odd ways. I'm on version 3.06. This was raised on another thread and solved by installing PR 1.1 but I've done this and it's not made any difference. Has anybody got another solution?

Sorry for any confusion over this, you do have the latest available version of OVI Maps installed and unfortunately don't know best way forward to resolve this issue.
Is N8 running PR1.0 or PR1.1 as might be opportunity to re-install device firmware?

  • Ugly display after an upgrade

    Hello guys,
I have a BIG problem. This is what my display currently looks like :
    Uploaded with ImageShack.us
This happened after an ordinary upgrade with "pacman -Syu" and a restart, because among upgraded packages there were kernel 2.6.37 and nouveau-dri 7.10.
This looked similar before, but only when using nouveau DRI drivers while running 3D applications.
I have absolutely no idea about what happens to my graphics card (it's an nVidia 6150SE) when DRI is being used. It has never been a big deal before, but now I just can't use my computer !! All I can see is the mouse arrow, all other things (menus etc.) get mixed with the mess.
Does somebody have an idea ?

Using kernel26-2.6.36.3-2 with the updated packages listed above doesn't solve the display problem for me.
I have not any line with "ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LK3E]" in dmesg.
If it were due to a kernel cause, the problem would still be present with the downgraded packages and the new kernel.
But it is not the case, so I don't think it is a kernel problem, but an upstream bug in one of the upgraded packages.
I looked at the opened bug reports and the resolved one but I didn't find anything recent about that display bug on apparently NV3X and NV4X Nvidia chipsets with the recent releases of libdrm and nouveau driver.
But I cannot say with certainty if the developers are aware of the problem or not.
It seems curious to me that the developers don't test the new releases on at least most of the chipsets.
As I don't want to pass all my time on that, I hope that others will also search for infos and will try to contact developers on the nouveau project.
Frankly I want to do something else presently.

  • Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help.
