Thanks, firecat53.
I found a thread here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=186640 that has the solution I used to solve this.

The engine failed to start before timeout. Restart the application (HDB 10005)
Hi everyone,
I experienced many times this type of error starting a SAP Lumira Document (version is 1.17, but even trying with the new version 1.19, right after the installation):
"An Error Occured: Data Source creation failed .The engine failed to start before timeout. Restart the application. (HDB 10005)".
I've already found (also in this community) some solutions, but they seems to me like temporary fixing, because sometimes I have to deal with this problem again. Can someone please explain me why this problem happens, and if a definitive fixing is in the works?
Thank You.I am working on Lenovo Helix with Intel i5 processor and 4 GB of fixed memory. And before setting the virtual memory size (paging size) on my laptop it was switched off (no paging). So maybe this was the root cause of the issue for me.

ANI Server fails to start
This problem occurs when you:
Start ANI Server, the server is up for sometime and shuts down with RC as -2 and Info as ANI Server failed to load from the database.
Workaround:
Stop the Daemon Manager. Re-initialize ANI database and start the daemons.
Enter the following command to reinitialize ANI database:
/opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl /opt/CSCOpx/bin/dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
You should not be using this interface to start any CiscoWorks services. Your statup parameters look okay. Either your ANI database is corrupt, or your transaction log is corrupt.
First, set the CiscoWorks Daemon Manager service to Manual, and reboot the server. When the server reboots, delete NMSROOT\databases\ani\ani.log if it exists. Then run:
NMSROOT\objects\db\win32\dbsrv9 -f NMSROOT\databases\ani\ani.db
After that, set the Daemon Manager service back to Automatic, and reboot again. See if the ANI database engine starts. If not, you will need to reinitialize your ANI database with the command:
NMSROOT\bin\perl NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
/* Style Definitions */
table.MsoNormalTable
{mso-style-name:"Table Normal";
mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;
mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;
mso-style-noshow:yes;
mso-style-parent:"";
mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt;
mso-para-margin:0cm;
mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;
mso-pagination:widow-orphan;
font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:"Times New Roman";
mso-ansi-language:#0400;
mso-fareast-language:#0400;
mso-bidi-language:#0400;}
We have done reinitializing:
1. Delete NMSROOT\databases\ani\ani.log
NMSROOT\objects\db\win32\dbsrv10 -f NMSROOT\databases\ani\ani.db
After that done
NMSROOT\bin\perl NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
After reinitializing ANI database took 1 hour to start, output of pdshow command was
INFO: Daemon manager is processing other tasks in the queue. Please try again later.
In RME there is another problem:
JRM Service could be down. Check whether JRM services are running .
Tried to resolve by reinitializingRME
NMSROOT\bin\perl.exe NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=rmeng dmprefix=RME
But did not help.
We are attaching some log files...
Thanks in advance...You are most likely seeing a port conflict between LMS and the Windows RM service. You can either shutdown the Windows Remote Management service, then restart Daemon Manager, or do the following:
* Shutdown Daemon Manager
* Remove ctmregistry* from NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB-INF/lib.
* With Windows Remote Management still running, restart Daemon Manager, and EssentialsDM should skip tcp/47001 because it is already in use. -

Please see the Tcl Console or the Messages for details.
However, if you look at the attached image, you'll see that my installed licenses include the license name "Simulation".
Why is Vivado complaining about "Simulation engine failed to start: A valid license was not found for simulation" ?
Thank you,
Rob
Hi Rob,
The reason for the license error is: Hostid mismatch. i.e., the hostid of the machine is different from the hostid in the license file.
I observe that the license file is generated with hostid: 52540019ee7e. You can cross check your hostid of the machine by running the command: lmutil lmhostid
You can rehost the license file using the steps mentioned in the section "Rehost or change the license server host for a license key file" in the following user guide: http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx14_5/irn.pdf

[SOLVED]sensord.service fails to start
Hi there!
I made a clean Arch install a couple of days ago and I've had problems trying to get sensord to work apropriately. I've went through the troubleshooting of this particular service and googled a lot the last couple of days about this topic but I found nothing really useful (or nothing that I could really understand. Maybe my search terms are not so effective ).
# systemctl status sensord -l
[sudo] password for daniel:
● sensord.service - Log hardware monitoring data
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/sensord.service; enabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since mié 2014-09-03 09:14:04 CLT; 7min ago
Process: 4231 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/sensord -i $INTERVAL -l $LOG_INTERVAL -f daemon (code=exited, status=127)
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel sensord[4231]: /usr/sbin/sensord: error while loading shared libraries: librrd.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel systemd[1]: sensord.service: control process exited, code=exited status=127
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel systemd[1]: Failed to start Log hardware monitoring data.
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel systemd[1]: Unit sensord.service entered failed state.
This is just a minor annoyance. My system performs great and I have no issues with it. It just annoys the heck out of me to see a service failing in my start up screen.
I don't know if hardware specs or other logs are useful. But if you need more info, just let me know
Thanks in advance.

Really ? Maybe there are services working but unrequested, have a look here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=186244
I thought, that you explicitly installed sensord. Do you need a round robin database to visualize graphically your measured values in Nagios e.g. ?

I installed apache from the official repos and followed the instructions in the wiki for configuring it. I checked to make sure the http user exists, and I /etc/hosts looks good (to me). Upon boot, the daemon fails to start and I can't load local web pages, but running "rc.d restart httpd" works just fine. Since I'd rather not start it manually every time I boot, is there a way to fix this? Also, httpd is the last daemon in my DAEMONS array.
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 127.0.0.1:80

Per the wiki, I also tried commenting out the line that reads
LoadModule unique_id_module modules/mod_unique_id.so
Either way, it still fails on boot.
Last edited by pythonscript (2012-06-10 21:14:44)The SIGTERM are from reboots, yes. I'm not absolutely sure that the process isn't running; I just know that I can't access http://localhost immediately upon reboot. I have to restart the httpd daemon, which works fine. How would I be able to tell if it's just hung?
I checked everything.log, and I don't see anything that leaps off the page to me.

All I notice is that my system's time is having a few problems, since you'll notice that events occur at 22:00 and change, then 17:00 and change, then back to 22:00 and change afterwards. Could this be the problem? I've had the CMOS batteries peg out on me suddenly in the last few weeks. I would hope this sytem is not also suffering a similar fate. Nothing else was happening on my system except for the standard processes from /etc/rc.conf and other standard ones, since I've just been rebooting, checking the logs, then posting here. -
[SOLVED] systemd : services failing to start on boot
I have removed sysvinit completely as per the systemd wiki pages.
I don't usually re-boot very often so I'm not sure exactly when the problem started.
I only noticed this problem about 4 or 5 days ago.
But now whenever I reboot my machine 2 services fail consistently.
adsl.service
colord.service
They both start flawlessly once I can log in at a console.
I'm using kde and in the last couple of days, while trying to fix my problem, the kdm service has failed to start a couple of times too - saying there is no X server.
Before switching to systemd I never had any of these problems using the old rc.conf method. My DAEMONS array had the adsl service start after the network service.
I need some help and advice to find out what is causing the problem and how to fix it.

That seems to confirm your theory.
eth0 link is not up when attempting to start colord and adsl
So the $64,000 question:
How do I defer them until eth0 is ready?
Or how can I force the eth0 link to be up before colord or adsl try to use it?

[SOLVED] Network bridge fails to start after systemd update
Hello,
After rebooting with the upgraded systemd (208-11 -> 210-2) by bridge could not start.
journal
Mar 06 00:08:45 myhost systemd[1]: Job sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp2s0.device/start timed out.
Mar 06 00:08:45 myhost systemd[1]: Timed out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp2s0.device.
Mar 06 00:08:45 myhost systemd[1]: Dependency failed for My network bridge with DHCP.
Mar 06 00:08:45 myhost systemd[1]: Starting Network.
Mar 06 00:08:45 myhost systemd[1]: Reached target Network.
# cat /etc/systemd/system/[email protected]
.include /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]
[Unit]
Description=My network bridge with DHCP
BindsTo=sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp2s0.device
After=sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp2s0.device
# cat /etc/netctl/br0
Description="My network bridge with DHCP"
Interface=br0
Connection=bridge
BindsToInterfaces=(enp2s0)
IP=dhcp
Commenting out BindsTo and After in the unit file allows to start the service, but it would still throw an error
Mar 06 00:14:05 myhost systemd[1]: Starting My network bridge with DHCP...
Mar 06 00:14:05 myhost network[732]: Starting network profile 'br0'...
Mar 06 00:14:05 myhost kernel: Bridge firewalling registered
Mar 06 00:14:05 myhost systemd-udevd[739]: Could not apply link config to br0
I never renamed interfaces, it was always the system-assigned enp2s0.
What could have become wrong?

Oh, and one reminder that kinda got lost when we announced 209: you have
to enable CONFIG_FHANDLE in your kernel to use systemd >= 209
successfully, otherwise udev won't find any devices.

[Solved] mpd.service fails to start
hello, i've switched to arch recently,
love it so far.
I've been trying to start mpd, with no success :
systemctl status mpd.service
mpd.service - Music Player Daemon
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/mpd.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sat 2015-02-21 12:52:02 CET; 3s ago
Process: 1924 ExecStart=/usr/bin/mpd --no-daemon (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
Main PID: 1924 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
I cant really see what goes wrong, I get no error message on "systemctl start mpd.service", and I dont see anything in "journalctl" :

In this case the system service is indeed the one that failed, but mpd also provides a user service file and all the paths in demo's /etc/mpd.conf (even though that is the default config for the system service) seem to indicate a user service might be more appropriate.
Indeed, I've made the appropriate change to run it as user service
(put my mdp.conf in ~/.mpd, and add "mpd ~/.mpd/mpd.conf" to my home ".profile")

[SOLVED] Net install fails at starting mkinitcpio
trying to do net install today and during the install after you do the configurations i get the following message:
STARTING MKINITCPIO , Executing chroot /mnt /sbin/mkinitcpio -p linux >>/var/log/aif/mkinitcpio.log 2>&1\n
chroot: failed to run command '/sbin/mkinicpio' : No such file or directory.
This happens every time since 4/12, i've tried on 2 machines, one intell, one amd, and i've tried using different mirrors for net install.
going to try local core install and see what that gets me.

Alternatively, after installing the base packages (between step 6 and step 7), you can switch to another console, login as root and do:
cd /mnt/sbin
ln -s ../usr/bin/mkinitcpio .
ok just to be clear, i tend to take cli instruction verbatim, so when i did it, that last dot, made it not work, it just turned up what i said in original post, so i had to do it again.
# cd /mnt/sbin
# ln -s ../usr/bin/mkinitcpio
no errors ^_^
so now i'll move on to my gui but i think every is nice now. -

[Solved] kdm.service fails to start X with systemd 185-4
Hello
After updating systemd yesterday to 185-4 and booting my pc in the morning I found out that either the boot stops in the middle giving me just black screen or it would throw me to console prompt after some time.
systemctl status kdm.service shows two errors
Jul 1 11:20:57 pc kdm[285]: X server startup timeout, terminating
Jul 1 11:21:08 pc kdm[285]: X server for display :0 cannot be started, session disabled
The same can be observed in logs. However, there are no errors in Xorg.0.log.
Moreover when I do
systemctl stop kdm.service
systemctl start kdm.service
kdm loads fine and I can login to kde.
I have temporarily reverted to 185-3 and the problem seems to be gone.
Does anybody experience a similar issue?
thanks

[SOLVED]nm-applet fails to start. Cannot get network GUI on i3
Hello,
I'd like to be able to find available wireless access points and connect to them via a gui, but since I'm using i3 wm, there's no clickable icon on the bottom for such a purpose. Networkmanager and nm-applet are both started, and I do connect successfully to the internet. However, when I try to run nm-applet to get a GUI, I get the following error:
Could not initialize nm-client /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: Rejected SendMessage....
Thanks for your help

Possibly because you don't have a "tray." Check this Wiki entry . You can also consider tint2. I think that's what you're asking. -
The database engine failed to start with an error message of “Error 1053: The service did not respond to start or control request in a timely fashion.”.
It appears that the database was originally installed (therefore service automatically started) with the local administrator account.
However as the result of making this server a Windows 2008 DC, the service is failing to start now due to the absence of the local administrator account that was originally used for this installation.
Would downgrade this server back to a standalone server will rectify this problem? Or if there is a work around (eg. relink a different account instead) to avoid rebuild the database again?I don't know for sure, I have also no experience with Oracle on Windows, but can't you assign another user to the service in the Services part of the "Administrative Tools"

One of the line says "SNC required for this connection". What does this mean? What else need to be done for JAVA to communicate with ABAP?
Thanks,
