[Solved] cups was installed, but no cupsd until I reinstalled it

Maybe I am completely missing something, I probably am. But I tried to start cupsd and there was no script for it on my system. pacman -Qis showed that the most recent cups package (1.5.3.5) was installed. I was scratching my head for a good while.
I finally decided to reinstall the cups package. This also installed several other packages: bc, cups-filters, libsystemd, openjpeg, openslp, poppler, and poppler-data. Now I can start cupsd.
What on earth was going on with my prior cups installation? It seems to have been extremely incomplete.

I realize that the boot is failing at the init stage[1].
Observing this behavior, I realize that it's something to do with systemd. Emergency mode is a feature of Systemd.[2]
Systemd was trying to start some processes, but they failed to start because some timed out and some lacked their dependencies. I guess the "A start job is running for..." is an indication that the process is stalling during init and Systemd is trying to jump start it, or something like that.
And I am coming to realize that the error messages are saying something is wrong with /home, ethernet, and wireless.
This thread[3], as well as the one linked in it, has given me a clue. Systemd fails when fstab can't detect a partition it expects.
My research tells me it is common to drop into emergency mode after an issue with fstab.[2] After editing, I should "run systemctl daemon-reload to let systemd refresh its view of it."
Which of course leads me to the Arch fstab wiki entry, as well as the manual.
This is the output of cat /etc/fstab

Edited with nano and removed the second line. Then systemctl daemon-reload. Reboot.

Please navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader and look for Eula.exe. Double click to run it and accept Eula. Try to open pdf document.

Tried to download Pages, said it was installed but it didn't..

It was installing the latest Pages from the App store, I came back sometime later and it said "installed" but when i opened it it was still Pages 08. plus it didnt ask for my credit card info. i am afraid to hit install again in case it bills my credit card twice. my Mac is 3 years old so i cant call Apple to ask. What do I do?please help.

Latest version of fp downloads and indicates it was installed but its not on my imac.

It does work if I download Flash Player either through Firefox or Chrome but not through Safari which is my preferred webbrowser.

You may have some odd possibly even malware software, maybe think about FunWeb Products or similar. I say this as I note in your system info aside:

You may have version 9 installed, but that is not what your browser is apparently reporting.
Try using
#[[safe mode]] <-- clickable link -- <br/> eg by pressing shift as you start firefox <br/> do not make changes, just click on continue
# if that does not help then; whilst still in safe mode, disable all plugins
Finally you may have to look for software installed but not showing up in Firefox as a plug-in. If the problem continues then it is down to doing malware scans.

Have you checked all your homescreens and searched for it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right) ? Also have you set an age rating limit via Settings > General > Restrictions which is hiding it ?
Otherwise try a reset and see if it appears after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

ITunes was installed but it can't be opened

I downloaded and installed iTunes, but when I try to open iTunes, I get this error message: "The iTunes application could not be opened. The file name was invalid or too long". I don't understand this because, at no time, did I create a file name.
Also, I am in the process of moving my iTunes setup from an older Windows XP computer to a more up to date computer. I have copied all of my music and videos to a portable hard drive so that I can add them to iTunes when I am able to open it (see above).
Lastly, I paid for a music video from iTunes and it is listed as being downloaded but I didn't receive it because a message said that I needed a newer version of itunes (version 8.1) in order to download the music video. The catch 22 situation is that the "old" computer was unable to up grade to 8.1. Hopefully, when I get the new setup working, I will be able to download the music video. Why would iTunes charge me for a video that I really didn't receive? Shouldn't it have realized that my "old" computer could not download/play the video and told me this BEFORE I paid for it?????
Please help me with these issues.

[SOLVED] Kipi-plugins installed but Gwenview does not show import/expo

I've installed kipi-plugins and libkipi but I don't see Import/Export services (Picassa,Facebook etc) in Gwenview. Do I need to do some configuration some where ? I am a new comer to Arch. I've installed the new core image and KDE 4.7 minimal on top of it yesterday and this is my first day with Arch.

Strangely, it is solved now after I opened ~/.kde4/share/config/gwenviewrc and closed it and restarted my PC. But I did not change/add anything in that file. Of course I've also parallely installed some more kde-graphics packages and updated the system. I don't know what has exactly solved my problem.

[SOLVED] First Arch Install - but with wireless problem

Hi all
I got my first Arch installation working this morning. It was only the third try at installing which I didn't think was too bad really. I made some dumb mistakes the first two times. Arch rocks once you take the plunge. I've initially set it up with KDE but am thinking of switching to OpenBox instead - I like the minimal sort of style.
I've got a bit of an issue with the wireless. My settings in /etc/network.d/talktalk are as follows:

It's a direct copy of the wep wireless example in /etc/network.d/examples.
The issue is that I issue from the command line: sudo netcfg talktalk
It responds initially with: [BUSY] but then responds: WPA Authentication/Association Failed [FAIL]
I know the wireless card works fine - I am dual booting with Ubuntu, and the ESSID and Key are correct. Any ideas anyone?

I just installed the Evernote web clipper on Firefox and it notified me that it was installed, but I see no icon or anything to be able to use it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I recently installed Evernote on my computer, then downloaded the web clipper app to Firefox. I believe there is supposed to be an icon or something to open the app, but I see nothing on my Firefox page. I don't know how I am supposed to access the app from Firefox.

If you never want them deleted then you don't want to use Time Machine to back the photos up to it.
If you do that as soon as you delete the originals then the photos on the Time Capsule would be candidates for deletion.
You might consider using the Vault function of Aperture to copy the data over if you are using Aperture.
You should also consider how you are going to back the photos up. Since you never want only a single copy of them.

A tab bar was installed, but isan't showing up in the browser bar?

I was on www.ButtonBeats.com, and I clicked the page that gave you the proper information on how to record audio from the site. The web site gives you a link to www.FreeCorder.com, and It shows a download link for the software, and the tab bar for Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Fire Fox... So half way between the download it would open up Mozilla Fire Fox, and it would leave a blank page. When the download is finished it would save the tab bar to Mozilla Fire Fox, or Internet Explorer. So after every thing is done it would ask in to top left corner "would u like to restart Fire Fox". So I hit restart. Then when Fire Fox opens the tab bar doesn't show up on the browser bar. So I clicked on the Fire Fox button on the top left of the screen, hit the add on option, and it would show that the tab I installed was indeed installed and is a part of Fire Fox. The problem is you need the tab bar to record music from the site. That action is done by clicking on a record button on the tab bar witch isn't showing up in the browser?

Hit the orange Firefox button and open Options - is there a Freecorder bar in that list under the 2nd Options menu item?

I have software trying to install but not visible until I shut down

When I shut down, just prior to the screen going blank, there is a message which is visible for just a second or so which looks like the install software message. I have tried to hit the "abort" button but I'm not fast enough. Is there somewhere I can locate this and abort it?

It is possible you have adware installed on your Mac. Maybe Genieo, or something else.

I removed MySearchdial which somehow was installed but the references still show up in about:config.

Noticed MySearchdial had hijacked by search box. Checked and found extension had been added. Deleted extenion, deleted from search engines, reset everything I could. But I noticed many references to "mysearchdial" in the about:config section of Firefox.
My browser appears to be working normal, but it seems these references shouldn't be there if I deleted the extention/add on.
Any suggestions? Doesn't seem like you can delete a line in about:config.

You can't delete lines in about:config but you can reset them by right clicking the pref and selecting Reset to the ones you want to reset to the default values.

I installed itunes 11.4 and it said it was installed but my old itunes is still showing, how do I receive the new itunes?

My computer is the Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 and I am unable to install the new iTunes 11.4. After I installed it, it said that once I restarted my computer, the new iTunes would be there. I restarted my computer and it is still the old version of iTunes and I cannot find the new version in the applications folder of my hard drive. How do I get the new iTunes update?

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
