[SOLVED] Dcop QCString error/Konqueror won't start

When I try to open konqueror (browser or file management mode) nothing happens at all, when I try to open konqueror from a console window, the following error appears -- "WARNING: DCOPReply<>: cast to 'QCString' error".
This doesn't always happen though, there are rare occasions when I reboot that konqueror works fine, but the next time I reboot konqueror gives me that error again.
Can anyone help?  This is the last hurdle before I consider using Arch full-time.
UPDATE:  I tracked it down to klaptop.  For some reason, when I disable the battery monitor, konqueror opens correctly.  I went through a cycle of "reboot & open konqueror" 10 times to be sure, and it worked every time.  I re-enabled the battery monitor once again, and sure enough, konqueror wouldn't open.  So I disabled the battery monitor again.

The patch was indeed merged into the upstream, it's the only reason I haven't updated the PKGBUILD.

based on your informations( which is lacking) i'm guessing that you are using testing, mostly because only from there you can get "after updates".
if this indeed is the case, be sure you have community-testing enabled too

  • (SOLVED) Compiz, GLX error even tough i start compiz with LIBGL_AWLAYS

    Hi,
I have tried to read trough the wiki, google and forum. I cant get this to be solved?
    I installed compis with:
    # pacman -S compiz-fusion-gtk (no to emerald, emerald-themes and compiz-fusion-plugins-extra)
made sure metacity compositioning was off with gconf
    then i added these:
    gconftool-2 --set -t string /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager compiz
    gconftool-2 --set -t string /desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/current /usr/bin/compiz
    gconftool-2 --set -t string /desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/default /usr/bin/compiz
    Have added these to xorg.conf
    ServerLayout:
    Option "AIGLX" "true"
    Device:
    Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
    Option "DRI" "true"
    Option "Accelmethod" "EXA"
added a section called "Extension" where i added:
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
    and a section "DRI" :
    group "video"
    mode 0660
If i launch compiz with :
    LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --replace --indirect-rendering
I still get the glx error! And i dont have the window borders. Read from the troubleshooting to activate the window decaritons, rezise and move, still the same.
Running Gnome with slim. And how should i launch the fusion-icon with a parameter? (ie LIBGL..) i get an error?
My specs: Dell d420, intel gma945 express
    sincerely, THANKS!
#update 1: Dont know how, but it kinda works now think the problem was something with compiz-dekorator-gtk.
now my problem is, how to add it to startup?

  • Keycoder.dll error Xcelsius won't start

    Hello everyone
I have an issue trying to get Xcelsius 2008 to run on my PC, initially I loaded Xcelsius 2008 SP3 Fix pack 3.3 I am 99% sure that it worked when I loaded it but I answered "do it later" to the registration question (99% sure this is what happened). I then left the software for about 6 weeks and when I went to open it the following error came up.
A required application library (keydecoder.dll) has been deleted or damaged. Reinstall Xcelsius and try again. If the problem persists, contact SAP BusinessOpjects Customer Support.
I had Xcelsius 4.5 loaded on this machine as well and received Xcelsius 2008 SP3 Fix pack 3.3 with a purchase of Rockwell Vantage point. I have a valid license code so all should be OK.
I have checked in the C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86 folder and the keydecoder.dll file is in there so not sure what is happening.
I have uninstalled both versions now and deleted the C:\Program Files\Business Objects folder which was still in C drive but completely empty.I downloaded 2008 SP4 version and installed I get the same error!
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Darren

    Hello Venk'
My File tree isn't the same as yours I found the keycode.dll file in the C drive and I copied it first onto the desktop then into the C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius folder
Now if I try and start xcelsius it pops up the
License manager, your xcelsius keycode is missing or expired please enter your xcelsius keycode box.
I start to enter my keycode and as soon as I put in the first character it comes up with
xcelsius has stopped working Windows can check online for a solution to the problem
    check online
    close program
We cannot get into the buisness objects suite 12 registry I do still have a suite 11.5 in there perhaps I should remove that as uninstalling the old xcelsius didn't remove it could there be a conflict.
I might do a remove and reinstall again and check to see whats in the registry once I've uninstalled.
    thanks Darren

  • BEX64 Error : Fonts Won't Start DW

    Greetings All
The Problem: App Crash On Start Up
I'm having a problem with my Dreamweaver 2014.1 , it stopped working completely awhile ago
When I launch the software, it will crash with starting up giving a BEX64 Error
There seems no specific reason for BEX64 Errors, Each forum i looked into seems to cite something different as the cause
Then It Occurred to me that the same exact thing happened to me InDesign v19, it would crash on startup, because of installed fonts on the system, it wasn't a specific font, just some of them, and it had nothing to do with the number of fonts installed. the problem was fixed with ID v19.1, "ID support was aware of that and they recommended the update"
I deleted all the installed fonts (around 2500 Fonts) , and the App Started fine, a bit laggy, but worked
When  i try to reinstall the fonts after that, the app would crash again
PS: I reinstalled windows 7 again, still fresh with nothing installed, DW works fine, my question is how to fix the problem, and if there is something i should do in advance prior to installing the fonts
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] gnome-terminal 3.12 won't start

After I upgraded to gnome 3.12, I my terminal refused to start with the error "Message did not receive a reply". It turns out that the issue was that I had previously installed vte3-mosh-fix from the AUR, and the new version of gnome-terminal was incompatible with that old version of vte3. Running "pacman -S vte3" fixed the problem for me. (And I think that mosh fix has been incorporated into the latest version too.) Posting in case anyone else runs into this.

The patch was indeed merged into the upstream, it's the only reason I haven't updated the PKGBUILD.

    Lisa,
Have you ever moved iCal from the default Application folder?
    How did you install Leopard?
The version of iCal which you are trying to open may be an older version.
What information is displayed in iCal Info? Just click on the iCal icon in your Applications folder and select (⌘I), let us know what is listed in General Information.
Your Dock may be pointing to the wrong version of iCal. If so, drag the iCal icon off of the Dock and replace it from the current iCal in your Applications folder.

  • [ Solved (?) ] CUPS error - service doesn't start

I've posted this here, because it is a print server problem.
I've installed cups as usual on a machine (Yes, as in the wiki).
The packages installed were: cups gsfonts ghostscript and hplip (for a HP printer ).
If I do /etc/rc.d/cupsd start ( or anything else ) to launch the cupsd service,
it tells me that cupsd has failed to start ( child exited with status 4 ).
    Nothing in the logs.
Somebody has an idea, what could this mean?

Well, I've checked a working cups install, and when I set LogLevel in cupsd.conf to debug, I get this ( normal ) messages:

( this far I get them on the "failing" machine too)
but the below lines appear only on a working install, not on the machine that fails to start:

  • [solved] Wrong /etc/fstab, services won't start

I re-installed my laptop last week, and being slightly sleep deprived due to a very young baby, I made a mistake with /etc/fstab
    Specifically, I allocated a 20G partition for /var, but it's in the /etc/fstab as /home
Here is the output of lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
    sda 8:0 0 119,2G 0 disk
    ├─sda1 8:1 0 15G 0 part /
    ├─sda2 8:2 0 20G 0 part
    ├─sda3 8:3 0 1G 0 part /boot
    └─sda4 8:4 0 83,2G 0 part /home
    My /etc/fstab is
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    # /dev/sda1
    UUID=d408dcf3-657b-4216-a5d6-b5d2edbb60fe / ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 1
    # /dev/sda4
    UUID=ad0011ff-bbf8-4275-9ace-43e8c02dcec7 /home ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 2
    # /dev/sda2
    UUID=a3a88964-c53a-498e-b079-a9d7752142cc /home ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 2
    # /dev/sda3
    UUID=EF36-0E07 /boot vfat rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro 0 2
Now, obviously, /sda2 should be mounted at /var. If I edit the /etc/fstab, the laptop boots fine, but I can't run any services (so no login manager, no network manager, or anything). Short of a complete reinstall, is there something I can do to fix it?
Last edited by tpoisot (2014-03-26 23:55:58)

I don't know what happens when you mount two devices in the same place. I guess the last one mounted would take precedence, in which case sda4 may be empty. My guess is you will need to move the contents of sda2 to sda4, then move the contents of /var (on sda1) to sda2. Be sure to preserve ownership etc. Then fix the fstab. You may be able to do all this from the recovery console.

It seems to display that error every time I click the "Show on disk" button on the screenshot manager.
    Something is very broken.

Well changing back to my normal theme after starting audacious works. So that's a plus. I still don't get how it affected steam.
Or reinstalling it worked, because now Audacious is starting fine with my normal theme. This is really strange.
Okay I figured out why the errors were showing up in steam. For some reason, steam tries to open audacious as my file manager instead of nemo.

  • Itunes won't start on vista home premium

I installed Vista Home Premium and did a fresh install of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
iTunes won't start and gives an error (iTunes won't start):
    Eventname: APPCRASH
    Name: iTunes.exe
    Version: 7.1.1.5
    Timestamp:45f8a616
    Name of the errormodule: StackHash_03ef
I can't seem to find the solution in the Forums and internet.
I deinstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times but it still gives the same error.
    Quicktime also won't start.
    Any help is appreciated.

I deinstalled all codecs (including Nero), because windows vista solutions also pointed me in that direction, but no luck yet..
okay. we'd better try swapping out your QuickTime now that the codecs are out of the way.
sometimes with that sort of "error message free" launch failure with QuickTime, Add/Remove doesn't want to get rid of the QuickTime. so we'll try the following technique if that happens:
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Help! 10.3.9 won't start up or install 10.5.6

Ok I did a really stupid thing. I bought OS X 10.5.6 thinking it could install when I scrapped the computer of it's system software to see what happened but I tried to start up to install it and it did not unfort. It gets a Mach Kernal error and won't start up from any other oold software disks either. I don't know why that is. The OS on there is 10.3.9 but I don't have the disks for it anymore, they are long gone lost. So do I have to buy a whole new copy of 10.3.9 in order to fix this? Will buying 10.3 or 10.3.4 for a cheaper price reinstall the system software?

    Hi IcyCool7227!
With additional RAM, the 17" eMac G4/1.25 GHZ will meet the Leopard System Requirements.
The posted RAM System Requirement, is the bare minimum.
For optimum performance, more is recommended.
The original pre-installed version of OS X was Panther 10.3.3.
Therefore, as Limnos posted, you cannot install Puma 10.1.3.
You must uses a version of OSX, that is Panther 10.3.3 or higher.
    Additional info HERE.
Again as Limnos posted, you need the Full Retail Version, of the Leopard Install DVD.
The disc should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on it.
    Is that what you have?

  • [Solved] Project64 (which runs via wine) won't start w/ an error

I'm on 64 bit arch laptop trying to run project64, but the app won't start.  I installed project64 from the repo and it pulled wine as a dependancy.  Upon firsst-run I was prompted to install wine gecko and hit the install button.  This froze and I force-closed the window which then prompted me to select a language.  I got a "Program Error" message saying that pj64 encountered a serious problem and needs to close.  I then found and installed the wine_gecko package, but this didn't solve the problem.
    The console outputs the following:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0x7cdb9eda (thread 0009), starting debugger...
    Someone please help me.

Make sure you have the correct lib32 drivers for your graphics card, since wine is a 32 bit app. For example,m for nvidia you need the lib32-nvidia-utils package. This seems to be more of a general Wine issue rather than an issue with project64 though, but hopefully installing the correct package should help. I maintain the project64 AUR package though, so I feel like I should do my best to help, and possuibly imporve my package too if something's wrong with it Also, if that doesn't work, try running this, it will give more terminal output that could be useful (by default it uses WINEDEBUG=-all to get rid of the extra debug info and stuff wine outputs by default, but it might be helpful here):
    wine "$HOME"/.project64/Project64.exe
Also, IMO, all the Mupen64plus frontends seem to be kinda crappy right now (cutemupen crashesd so I can't even try that one out...), but the one I'va had the best luck with is wxmupen64plus-hg, so give that a shot, though it does still have some issues sometimes, but it lets you configure the controllers and stuff, so that's good And if you felt like using it, you could install version 1.5 (it's in AUR too, but I haven't tested it), since version 1.5 has a GUI and it always worked great when I used to use that
