[solved] Dependency hell with redland and redland-compat

It seems that redland and redland-compat are in conflict, but both are required.
I notice that the installed version of redland-compat provides redland, but the new version does not.
$ pacman -Qu

  • [Solved] Slow graphics with RS780M and open source ati driver

    EDIT: Well this is embarrasing. Guess this is why there's a new comers forum. I assumed since I installed a couple days ago my system was up to date. However, running pacman -Syu updated my kernal and it works fine now. SOLVED (I'm an idiot)
    Hello Arch community. I've been using Ubuntu for a couple years so know that my hardware can work well enough with linux. Almost everything works great with arch with little setup, but I'm stumped as to how to setup the graphics card.
    I'm attempting to use the open source drivers, either xf86-video-ati or xf86-video-radeonhd (I don't care which I use in the end). I have both installed so I can try out both, assuming that doesn't cause problems. I've never tried using the catalyst driver in arch, so I know I don't have remenents of that causing problems. Right I have gnome working, but when dragging a window, resizing a window, scrolling, or watching a video I can see the screen slowly refresh. It is definetly not right.
    Here's the information that might help:
    [jake@myhost ~]$ lspci | grep Radeon
    01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics]
    I've tried various configurations. Right now I'm running without an xorg.conf. This is /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the setup without an xorg.conf

  • [SOLVED] firefox problems with Twitter and google+

    I've been having some issues with firefox. I don't know if they are related, but they've been getting on my nerves.
    First off, Twitter just shows a blank page with the background picture. I can't view any twitter posts at all.
    Secondly, pages which check for browser compatibility all seem to report that my browser isn't supported (it is). For example, Google+ gives me a "Your Browser is no longer supported." page while the list of supported browsers states: "Linux : Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and up".
    I'm using the latest version of firefox from extra (7.0.1-1). Also, these problems are not new to this version, as they have been occurring for as long as I've had this computer (~10 months). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Disabling the plugins did nothing, but creating a new profile seems to have fixed it.
    I still don't know what caused the problems, but I've migrated all my stuff over to the new profile and everything is working well. I'm marking this thread as solved, thanks for the help!

  • [SOLVED] Graphic Corruption with 3D and Wine 1.3.8 + Catalyst 10.11

    Hello!
    I'm getting graphic corruption with 3D games on my Arch Linux configuration using Wine and Catalyst. Tried World of Warcraft (also with opengl rendering) and Guild Wars - graphics look stretched and teared.
    Using ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    I get same problem with guildwars in fullscreen when entering character select. I have to ctrl-alt-F1 to tty then back to get rid of the garbled graphics. Then my characters vanishes except for their armor/effects. Going into windowed mode stops the garbling of the graphics but the bodyless avatars remain. There is one error stands out in wine output but can't find anything specific to this error that helps.

  • How to solve the exception with socket and PrintWriter constructor

    I am working on a socket communication program and everything works fine on my computer until my boss moved my code to his computer. The following is the client code.
    The client program terminate with exception "Couldn't get I/O for the connection to local host." I have no idea how to solve the problem because there is no way out if the two statements (socket constructor and PrintWriter) fail.
    /*the program shall close connections and exit if the user clicks 'e'.*/
    public class LocalClient extends JPanel implements KeyListener {
    Socket localSocket = null;
    PrintWriter out = null;
    BufferedReader in = null;
    char fromServer = ' ';
    public LocalClient() {
    try {
    localSocket = new Socket("a029243.cs.uregina.ca", 4444);
    out = new PrintWriter(localSocket.getOutputStream(), true);
    } catch (UnknownHostException e) {
    System.err.println("Don't know about local host.");
    System.exit(1);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    System.err.println("Couldn't get I/O for the connection to
    local host.");
    System.exit(1);
    addKeyListener(this);
    }//end of constructor
    /*the component needs to be focused in order to respond to user input */
    public boolean isFocusTraversable() {return true;}
    public void keyPressed(KeyEvent evt) {
    public void keyReleased (KeyEvent evt) {
    public void keyTyped(KeyEvent evt) {
    System.out.println("key typed is called ");
    char fromClient=evt.getKeyChar();
    if (fromClient!= ' ') {
    if (fromClient=='e')
    try {
    out.close();
    localSocket.close();
    System.exit(1);
    } catch (IOException e)
    {System.out.println("connection closed");}
    else {
    System.out.println("Client: " +
    fromClient);
    out.println(fromClient);
    out.flush();}
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
    JFrame frame1=new JFrame();
    Container contentPane=frame1.getContentPane();
    LocalClient lc = new LocalClient();
    contentPane.add(lc);
    frame1.pack();
    frame1.setSize(50,50);
    frame1.setVisible(true);
    }//end of main
    } //end of class

    Add e.printStackTrace() or System.out.println(e) to the catch block of the IOException. The IOException has a message about what went wrong.

    I don't have any experience with the beyond-kernel, but on two of my machines which already use encrypted root with LUKS I have added the following modules into /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    (I use AES for swap & Serpent for the rest, sha256 as essiv-hash)
    MODULES="dm-crypt aes-i586 serpent sha256"
    Did you switch the Kernel on an already installed/running System or did you make a fresh installation with the beyond-kernel? In case your System is already installed, you could try the mkinitcpio procedure with a life-cd (may be worth a try).
    There's also an excellent article in the wiki:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mkinitcpio
    In the troubleshooting-section of the article there's also a solution to a problem concerning the beyond-kernel and ide/sata/scsi, which could be just what you are looking for.
    Hope it'll be helpfull!

    I just recently installed Arch on my computer but have used *buntu for a couple of years so I'm not completely lost in the Linux-world.
    Anyway, my college have a wireless setup that requires you to log in with your username and password. I used wicd in *buntu but the reason I installed Arch is because I want to know how to do stuff manually, and not only automagically.
    So, the problem I have is that I don't know how to connect to it using wpa_supplicant and netcfg. I've googled about it but haven't seen any good examples, or how-to's.

    This works for me here at UW:
    Manually in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf:
    network={

    password="<password>"
    Using netcfg (which I recommend strongly): do the above and set WPA_CONF to /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf (or whatever you want).
    Using netcfg from testing (which you'll have to upgrade to eventually):
    CONFIGSECTION='ssid="<network>"
    key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
    identity="<username>"
    password="<password>"'
    That did it
    I added an own profile in /etc/network.d that I just connect to now. Excited too see if it works back home as well, got some strange error yesterday when I use WEP.

  • Issues with macbook and wireless compatibility with netgear router

    my macbook wireless is extremely spotty with my netgear router at home.
    the connection is sometimes very good, but other times, extremely unreliable.
    the wireless connection to the router is perfect, 4 bars. and it is actually within 10ft of the router itself.
    i use my macbook constantly at my college student center, and the connection to the network and internet is perfect...
    is there any way to fix my internet connection in regards to the netgear router?? (all other PC + PC labtops are perfect with it. its just my macbook that has issues)

    I have to agree with you.
    I have a Netgear Cable Router, my iPhone & my wifes iPhone, my Vista PC & my older Vista Laptop connect with out a problem and are rock solid to boot.
    My new MacBook Aluminium seems to be very tempremental at best. Dont get me wrong, i love my new macbook but i am a little unhappy that this is happening. Looking at others on this forum, it seems to be across the board so will happily await a firmware/driver update from apple.
    With any luck, this should be resolved shortly.

  • [SOLVED] XPCOMGlueLoad Error with Firefox and Thunderbird

    When I update xcb-util from 0.3.6-2 to 0.3.8-1 I get the following error when starting firefox or (in this case) thunderbird:
    XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/thunderbird/libxpcom.so:
    libxcb-aux.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Couldn't load XPCOM.
    There is no libxcb-aux-so.0 in my system but if I downgrade back to 0.3.6-2 then it installs in /usr/lib/libxcb-aux.so.0. If I copy this file and then update and paste it back in then thunderbird and firefox start fine with no errors but that doesn't feel like the proper way of doing things and it might lead to conflicts.
    I wouldn't mind that much but I can't upgrade things like xf86-video-intel without the newer version of xcb-util.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Last edited by JJ.Eastwood (2012-01-02 18:05:08)

    do not skip xcb-util or any other package. just fully update everything and no, is not about libxcb is all about xcb-util
    thunderbird links to startup-notification, which links to new xcb-util.
    if you use a xf86-video-intel from aur, you must recompile after fully updating your system

  • [SOLVED] Network trouble with openvpn and hplip

    Hi everyone,
    I use openvpn to protect my network traffic. But when my PC is connected to the remote openvpn server, my local printer (HP Officejet 4500) is unreachable (for printing and scanning). If I disconnect my openvpn client, all is ok : I can print and scan. Is there a way to have openvpn activated and be able to use hplip devices ?
    I use an up-to-date arch x64 install under gnome 3, and printing with cups/hplip. Openvpn is managed thru NetworkManager.

    I have ndiswrapper in /etc/rc.conf  MODULES list, also in /etc/rc.conf:

    I have networkmanager, but it is not detecting any wireless networks.
    I have 2WIRE at home. I don't know what to do next.

    did you run 'ndiswrapper -m' after installing the inf file?
    I'm pretty sure ndiswrapper should create an alias to wlan0 and not eth1.
    I think you also need to blacklist bcm43xx module in rc.conf.

    Yep, and this shows something interesting: Apperently both libnjb and glibc wants ownership over /lib.
    What to do?

  • Encrypted forlders with Mac and PC compatibility?

    I'm looking for a way to encrypt folders such that I can access the data from both my Mac and PC machines.
    There are ways to do this from the command line (e.g., tar the folder and use OpenSSL to encrypt), but they are clunky. And the most common encryption tools (e.g., encrypted DMG on the Mac, WinZip/AES on the PC) are simply not compatible across platforms.
    Any suggestions?

    That seems like a pretty good solution. PGP Desktop Home does what I want — creates virtual encrypted drives that are easy to access on both OS X and XP. The only downside is that I have to buy a $99 license for each platform. But if nothing better crops up it may very well be worth it.
