[SOLVED] Disable/remove NetworkManager, and use netctl

Hello!
I just installed arch linux and gnome shell with only few applications. I was using netctl-auto, which I enabled using systemctl during the installation. Everything was worked fine, until I installed the packages tlp and tlp-rdw. They pulled in NetworkManager as a dependency and now I can only use this and not netctl. When I try to uninstall NetworkManager it doesn't allow me, because of some applications that depend on it. One of them is "telepathy-mission-control" and appearantly gnome-shell is depending on that... I have no idea why this complication suddenly occurs, since everything was working fine until I installed tlp, tlp-rdw and its dependencies.
Can anyone tell me how to disable or preferably completely remove NetworkManager in favor of netctl, so we can be re-united and live happily in netctl-auto-harmony once again?

Do you mean that in the pacman.conf file I make it like this?
NoExtract=/etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop
yes. see 'man pacman.conf' for details.
EDIT: actually it looks like that can't have that first /, so this should work better:
NoExtract=etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop

  • Is there any way to disable Quick Find and use the old VS 2010 find?

I really dislike the Quick Find dialog. It's one of the few tools from the VS 2010 Productivity Pack that I always disabled. It looks like they've forced it on us with 2012 though, so I'm wondering if there's a way to disable Quick Find and use the old
    style Find dialog?

I wish the VS2012 devs would realize just how badly the Quick Find tool slows me down. It's poorly labelled, does a full search immediately after every single keystroke, and doesn't default to whatever's highlighted in the code when invoked. It
makes me feel like I'm the only one who uses the product.
    I agree with ElectricNinja and
Disable Quick Find in VS 2012
The quick find is terrible, and was one of the few tools that I'd disable in the 2010 pack.  wish there was a way to return to the good old normal find.

Sorry, no, this is not possible. The "sure press" technology is part of the Storm OS and can't be disabled.

I no longer use Skype, so I cannot test Skype's claims, but http://www.skype.com/go/help should best be able to help you use their product with your system.
I found this page http://www.skype.com/help/guides/skypeformac/skypefeatures/video.html that seems to address your specific question. The picture on that page shows that you should be able to select among connected cameras from the "Camera:" choices bar in Skype > Preferences > Video:
Of course, if you have only one compatible camera connected, only the one choice will show.
Use the latest version of Skype that is compatible with your system. If camera selection works as explained in the Skype Help page, there should be no need to "disable the iSight camera."

  • How do I stop/disable/remove dovecot and postfix?

    Hello,
So the story is somehow I managed to install Lion Server on my personal computer from the App Store. Fine until I realized all the proccesses my computer is spending resources on now. I've looked through what I think is every guide in the book on how to "remove" Lion Server, meaning just disable the additional servers it installs. I think I've gotten almost all of it, following basic things such as shutting everything "off" in Server.app.
Seems that though, no matter what Launch daemons or agents I disable, two are persistent on starting up with my comptuer and I can't seem to rid myself of them. Yes, I need to stop/disable/remove them. The following shows up in Console.app > All Messages:
    Dovecot (or something related):
1/24/12 10:57:58.490 PM dovecot: lda: Error: userdb lookup: connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-userdb) failed: No such file or directory
1/24/12 10:57:58.491 PM dovecot: lda: Fatal: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information.
    Postfix:

    1/24/12 10:57:58.143 PM postfix/master: daemon started -- version 2.8.4, configuration /etc/postfix

I believe both of these are related to mail somehow. I have ticked off "Mail" switch box in Server.app.
These messages keep on looping in the Console since I'm assuming they are crashing and then restarting due to a "stay alive" in some plist file I can't seem to find...
Please, I would be very grateful to anyone who can help me unclutter my Console of these messages. I know I can filter senders, but I will like to see if I might get some advice to resolve this. I'm sure it's minimal, but it can't be good for battery life. I wish I had the time to do a fresh install of the client.
    Cheers!
    Ryan

I have the exact same problem, and I'd appreciate a response. My logs are flooded by nonsense!

  • How do you completely disable the installation and use of add-ons for firefox 4? Is there a config setting/file that can be changed to completely disable add-ons?

I want to completley disable the installation and/or use of add-ons in Firefox 4. I don't want anybody that logs onto either of my computers to be able to use add-ons and I can't find a way to disable it in the configuration files. I've found ways to lock down other options like updates etc. but I cannot find a way to completely disable add-ons.

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
You can use a mozilla.cfg file to lock prefs or specify default values.<br />
You can place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder to specify using mozilla.cfg.
You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes
To prevent users from installing software use:
    <pre><nowiki> //
    lockPref("xpinstall.enabled" ,false);
    </nowiki></pre>

  • Cannot disable internet connection and use wlan co...

hi i have download skype and i cant use it with my wlan connection because its already connected with internet and i might get charge for using this service could you please tell me how to disable internet and use wlan connection when i am in home
    my handset details are
its made in hungary  software version is v 11.0.0.029 software date 11-08-10 rm612
and there is no update availabe for my handset at the moment

It sounds like you are using an unsupported App like "Jailbreak" which technically voids the warranty on your iPhone. Your call on that.
If so, the app creates an "ad hoc" wireless network which the Airport Express cannot join or participate in. So, you cannot use both the AirPort Express and the "modem" function of your iPhone at the same time.
You should be able to turn the app off and log off the internet, and then setup another separate wireless network to run AirTunes, or AirPlay. But, you'll have to "switch" wireless networks to be able to do this and the network will of course not have access to the Internet.

  • Any known compatibility issues with disabling onboard sound and using

I have the K7 N2 board and disabled on board sound in the bios to use my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Sound seems to work fine in Windows Xp and the few games I have installed so far. My problem is with UT2003. When I try to launch the game I get the splash screen then it simply goes away. When I checked the system folder and looked at the debug log it shows the following.
    Exception code: c0000005

I am able to run UT in safe mode without sound. I yanked my Santa Cruz card and uninstalled the drivers and tried with on board but still had the same problem. Since disabling the sound allows me to play, it has to do something with either the on board or my card or some sort of incompatibility between the two. Anyone know of any issues? On a side note. If I was to wipe my drive and use the on board is the quality of the sound as good as using a separate card? Any help would be appreciated.

Just a follow up...I figured I could spend countless hours trying to figure out why UT wouldn'l load or spend 3 hours wiping the disk and reinstalling software. The latter proved to be worth it. My preference would have been not to install any of the audio drivers at all, but since they are bundled with the system drivers there is really no choice.  The one thing I did differently was not to install the live drivers from the disk that came with my board  but rather update to the newer Nforce 2 system driver dated 2/25/2003.
So the install went Xp Pro, Sp1, Video drivers,  newest system drivers, disable on board sound in bios, Santa Cruz drivers then UT2003 and the game loads fine. I still get the message about the game port not having enough resources but that can be ironed out.
Hopefully this information can help someone else out who might experience conflicts going forward.
A side note..I find that with two network cards (3Com and on board) that Xp will spend about  three mintues after it loads non responsive as it looks for the other network connection. Running the network wizard on box 1 connected to the internet and creating the network disk and running it on the other machine allowing the on board card to see the network and eliminates the painful lull after Xp load to the time I can do anything.
Thanks for the timely responses. I'm really enjoying this board. So many options, so little time.

  • [Solved] Disable sound events, not using a desktop

I use plain Icewm (simple window manager, no desktop). Some software such as firefox or chromium do sometimes (but not often) make a sound relating to an event. If it possible to completely disable that. The only solution I have found is to uninstall libcanberra but for some reason, this solution is not satisfactory for me. I believe tjhis is some kind of freedesktop configuration but I have no idea how the freedesktop standard relate to sound.

I have tried a few things, but I am still out of luck. To have an example of what I mean, go to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ , select "Search for your Video Card" , then put an inexistants card and click "Find video card". You have a small windows saying "String <what you have typed not found>" and a "ding". i found no ways to disable these annoying ding. I thought having found the solution in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Libcanberra but the suggested settings (with false instead of true, of course) does not seem to have any effect. Still completely uninstalling libcanberra solve the problem. But I would like to have a per user settings...

  • How to disable FMR capture and use Screenshots only?

I'm using Captivate 7.0.0.118 to record a video demonstration.  I currently use recording type "Automatic" and mode "Demo".  The resulting project has some slides containing screenshots and some slides containing full motion recordings (FMR) for instance when I drag the mouse across the screen.
I need to reduce the project size, and I have already done what I can from the SWF Size settings as well as the Audio quality settings. I would like to eliminate all FMR captures and instead rely only on screenshots. I envision narrating the demonstration and pressing the Print Screen key whenever I want a screenshot. I would expect the resulting SWF to be much smaller.
Problem is that I have been unable to find out which settings will disable FMR capture. I tried setting recording type to "Manual" but that did not work.  Is it possible to turn off FMR and rely on screenshots only?
    Please help,
    -Patrick

    Lilybiri
I'm not familiar with the HD Video Demo slides.  Do you know whether that option is available in CP7? Is it different from a video demonstration recording? By that I mean that when I select "record" from the project film strip, the dialog box that opens up gives me a choice of 3 recording types: "Automatic", "Video Demo" and "Manual".  Is this "Video Demo" recording type what you're referring to when you mensiton "HD Video Demo" slides?
    Captiv8r,
I will look into TechSmith Camtasia Studio.  You didn't specify why you thought it was a better option.  You mentioned that the recording is about the same.  I currently don't need to do much post-recording editing because each project is a 2 to 4 minute recording of a solution to a math problem.  The way it usually works is that I talk and solve as I record.  If I make a mistake, I start the recording over in a new take.  Does Camtasia Studio produce SWF files?

  • Remove @me and use @icloud as primary address?

I have an @ me account that is Apple ID and Primary email address. I have recieved the @icloud email but cannot find a way to get rid of the @me. In my apple ID management I see no option of removing the @me. Is this possible? I don't want to use the @me anymore.

I was wondering why all of a sudden I could choose to send emails from @icloud.com as well as @me.com. That appeared out of nowhere in my iPhone's mail app. I read people are mentioning a mail they woudl have received about this thing happening..? I didn't see any.
Anyways, as Google is your friend... I found this popping up in my search wizzardry:
If you go to to the iCloud Mail prefs on the web interface:
    https://www.icloud.com/#mail/prefs-addresses
in the composing tab, you will see a setting called "Send From".
There you can choose which default address to use.
@icloud.com was the setting, (which I never visited before). I left it at that, as I assume it is the whole point.
below it is a setting "choose which address you would like to be able to send from"
There you can choose be able to send from both @me.com and @icloud.com (set as default), and you can choose to not send from the non-default address above it...
    Bottom line:
you can always get email on both @me.com and @icloud.com
    +
you can choose from which one to send as default, and if you want to be able to send from both...
It would be cool to have Apple send a auto reply to people using the one you don't use, so you have only in- and outgoing traffic trough one of them...
    Does this solve the issue..?

    IF EMPST 111 Then Revceive1
    IF EMPST 222 Then Revceive2

But sometimes values also Come as 000111 or 00111 or 0111 same for Others.
I have used follwong condition in Receiver Determination.
    IDOC/E1EDK01/EMPST u2248 *111
But it working fime for leading zero.
But if values come as 8111 or 78111 it is also routing message to Revceive1.

  • How To Remove Tone and Use As Filter

My Canon HV20 HDV camcorder makes a high-pitched tone that apparently is right at the 8kHz mark throughout my videos when I record live directly into Premiere Pro CS6 through FireWire.
Is there a way to use Audition CS6 or Premiere Pro CS6 to remove that tone and then somehow save that as a filter to use on all my videos?  It'd be great if I could do it without leaving Premiere Pro and having to open Audition.
I already use the DeNoiser effect in Premiere Pro and it takes care of white noise, but not this tone.
I tried the High Pass Filter (or the Low Pass Filter - I can't remember), but it just ruins the quality.
I was able to use the Healing Brush Tool and the Lasso Tool in Audition to remove pieces of the tone, just to experiment.  I've include a screen shot of it below.  I can't tell any difference in quality in the cut out areas, but I can't see doing this to every clip.
Do ya'll know of a better, easier way to do this and be able to use it as a filter for all my videos?
Also, when I use the DeNoiser effect in Premiere Pro, it removes white noise beautifully, but when I export, the first 2 seconds of the exported video has the white noise on it, but after the first 2 seconds, the white noise disappears.  But in the sequence, the first 2 seconds as well as the rest of the clip, has had the white noise removed.
Any idea as to why this happens?
Thanks for any help ya'll might offer.

If the tone really is a single (or at least narrow band) frequency like the picture shows, I'd try the Notch Filter on the Audition/Effects/Filter and EQ menu.  It might take some playing around to get the exact frequency and tweak the amount of cut you apply vs. the effect it will have on surrounding frequencies--but if you can get the right balance, you can then easily apply this to the whole of every file.
Sorry, can't help on the Premiere Pro question since I only use Audition.
