[SOLVED] disabling synaptics scroll inertia

How can I disable scrolling inertia (scrolling continues after releasing your finger from the side of the touchpad)? I have a T400 with a synaptics touchpad, and I haven't found any xorg option that would do the job. It's pretty annoying when deciding to close a tab in a web browser with ctrl-w while the touchpad is still sending scroll events. It zooms / unzooms the page like crazy just before closing it.

You should open a new thread and link back to this one.

When you do, post the content of your synaptics configuration file (if you use one) and the output of:

I have the latest driver for the touch-pad, from synaptics, for my toshiba laptop L505D-S5986. Operating system is Windows 7 (32-Bit). Have tried it on other browsers, and works as it should. The last add-on i installed for Firefox was "Fox Filter" so my kids couldn't accidentally stumble onto sites of immoral tastes. I can't see why that would have any effect, but it was the last update/add-on i installed to the browser, but even then,.......it was working fine for a week and a half afterwards until now. Hello Steve.
    You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    If you detect a faulty add-on, you should contact its author for support. You can also search for alternatives. Site filters are relatively common in the add-ons gallery: [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

  • Disabling Horizontal Scroll in Mountain Lion (Magic Mouse)?

    So I've tried pretty much everything and can't seem to this.
    The following things used to work under Lion and before, it seems but having tried all of them, I'm at a loss for what to do. I like the magic mouse, but
    when doing any development like coding or doing something in illustrator or Photoshop. The horizontal scroll makes my content jump all over the place.
    Very frustrated hope someone can help. Here are all the things I've tried.
    Open a terminal shell:
    defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse MouseHorizontalScroll -bool NO
    This no longer does anything.
    I tried installing MagicPrefs to try and 'overwrite' the scroll functionality for horizontal movement... it doesn't work
    I tried installing BetterTouchTool (BTT) to also overwrite the scroll functionality for horizontal movement... again it doesn't work.
    What does work:
    It seems I can go into System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Mouse Options >  uncheck scrolling.
    But this gets rid of all scrolling even vertical.
    Now if MagicPrefs or BTT had a vertical scroll action you could bind to up/down swipes this would be fine, but they don't.
    So, at a loss for what to do.

    If you have windows 7 this might work for you. Found from another forum post here.

    Re: how to disable horizontal scrolling with magic mouse in win7?
    Mar 19, 2013 8:30 AM (in response to lexa_xxx)
    I use MagicMouse on iMac with Windows 7 running (installed through BootCamp). Got sick of annoying horizontal scrolling. The solution described above has helped me to disable it. Here is what I've done in steps:
    1) go to http://www.autohotkey.com/ and download an app (a script editor).
    2) Install and run the program - please note that it will not open as it runs in the background
    3) Rightclick on the desktop -> choose "New" -> "AutoHotkey Script" (a new script file will be created on the desktop) -> name it as you wish (e.g. "Mouse_HScroll")
    4) Rightclick on the file you've just created and choose "Edit Script" from the menu.
    5) Add these three lines below existing text in the file:
    WheelLeft::return
    WheelRight::return
    #MaxHotkeysPerInterval 5000
    6) Save file
    7) Run "Convert .ahk to .exe" program from the package installed earlier and browse the file you've just created, hit ">Convert<" -> .exe file should be created. Run this file -> the scrolling should be disabled now.
    7) You may wish to move this file to Start/"Autorun" folder, so it would be launched automatically each time you reboot your Mac/PC.
    Hope this helps! Good Luck

  • How to disable spacebar scrolling

    The question of how to disable spacebar scrolling is discussed on these pages:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/935601
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=722865&start=0
    The solution given is to use the Keyconfig extension to reassign the use of the spacebar. However, the instructions are somewhat incomplete.
    After finally getting it to work, I wanted to elaborate on the instructions. (Since those topics are closed, I'm starting a new one.)
    <pre>1. Install the Keyconfig extension from this page:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_extension
    2. Make sure the Firefox Menu Bar is visible.
    3. From the Tools Menu, select Keyconfig.
    4. Click the Add a new key button.
    5. In the Name fleld, type a name for the keyboard shortcut, such as "Spacebar."
    6. To make this apply to all pages, click the Global checkbox.
    7. Click OK.
    8. In the Keyconfig main window, select the new shortcut, such as "Spacebar."
    9. Click where it says <Disabled>, and type a space. The term <VK_SPACE> appears.
    10. Click Apply.
    11. Click Close.</pre>

    Thank you shmuel67!
    I will document this when I have time: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/disable-spacebar-scrolling-keyconfig/history

  • I can't disable the scroll bar in Mavericks

    I can't disable the scroll bar in Mavericks. I go to System Preferences>General and I select the option "Automatically" or "When scrolling". I close de System Preferences and re-open and the option selected is "Always", ever. I don't want scroll bar in my page every time, but just when I need.

    Ok, try this:
    Go to Finder
    - in the top left to the right of the black apple, go to "GO"
    - then hold down the option key on your keyboard
    - and go to library which is between the home and computer
    - in there, go to a folder called "preferences"
    - in preferences, find com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    - take that file and put it on the desktop
    - after that, restart and try to disable the scroll feature again

  • Disable mouse scroll in plugins?

    I use the Apple Magic Mouse, and while it is a great mouse, I've found AU plugin windows are very sensitive to scrolling commands. My hand will be resting on the mouse and whichever control in a plugin GUI I happen to be hovering over will jump.
    Is it possible to disable mouse scrolling to control parameters? I'd turn the scrolling off altogether but using it for zooming and navigating in the arrange and other windows is essential.

    Thanks Niall,
    That's a work around I've been trying to do this morning as seems to be easiest solution, but when I change next page to visible in my button, then  add next action on button to either "next page" or the next page number, livecycle goes to the page after the one I have just made visible.

  • Scroll Inertia

    I cannot get my scroll inertia to work. 10.8.1, 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5.  I have gone to Preferences, Accesibility, Trackpad Options, and set to "scroll with inertia".  Ran "Repair Permissions" from Disk Utility, restarted and still no inertia.

    The inertia option is set separately for the mouse and trackpad.  It sounds like you set it for the Trackpad.  Go back to System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Mouse Options.. button > check scrolling with inertia.

  • Disable Automatic Scrolling in Multisim

    Hi Mike,
    I couldn't find way to disable the scroll.  I like to use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out so when you near the border zoom in page really tight and this may help.

  • Restoring previous UltraNav driver to disable smooth scrolling

    The latest system update installed UltraNav driver 16.1.1.0 of 4/6/2012.  This apparently implements smooth scrolling which is very nice to use BUT it significantly reduces my battery life.  I'd like to optimise battery life and return to my previous scrolling functionality.
    I'd appreciate advice on how to determine which version of the driver I was running before this update, and how can I restore that version of the driver.  (I tried using the roll-back function in Windows Device Manager but that installed version 7.5.27.24 of 7/6/2007 which disbaled scrolling altogether.)

    Windows XP SP3

    I stumbled onto the Fn-F8 facility for managing UltraNav and realise that I was confusing the smooth-scrolling function introduced in recent versions of FireFox with the EdgeMotion function in UltraNav which was presumable introduced on my system when I upgraded UltraNav from 7.5.17.24 to 16.1.1.0.  I have disabled smooth-scrolling in FireFox but enabled EdgeMotion in UltraNav which seems like a nice compromise between convenience and power consumption.
    I still have minor quibbles with UltraNav, specifically, when I try to scroll within drop-down boxes in my usual Web applications (like Redmine, for example) the drop-down pane immediately disappears.  I have to drag the pane control on the right (sorry, don't know the correct name for this) to find the option to select.  Before the upgrade I could scroll within dropdowns on the trackpad.  I also have a little block with up and down marks appearing to the left of the pointer arrow when I scroll which wasn't there before.  I'd appreciate any advice about addressing these issues.

  • Disable mouse scroll incrementing on numeric controls?

    Is there a way to disable the mouse scroll incrementing on numeric controls?  (When the numeric control has KeyFocus and you scroll your mouse it will increment/decrement).
    Most of the time it isn't a problem, but if you have a subpanel and you scroll your mouse it will scroll both the subpanel vertical AND increment/decrement a numeric control that has focus.

  • Disable Mouse scroll

    Hi,
    I used a snazzy bit of kit to disable pdf scroll bar called pdf layout - that's great because i want to force users of the form to navigate via buttons i have on my pages designed in livecycle.
    Trouble is, you can still navigate down using the mouse wheel!
    I have searched for some javascript and found this, but this does not seem to work.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function stop()
    return false;
    document.onmousewheel=stop;
    </script>
    Anyone with an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
