[SOLVED] dns is grabbed over dhcp instead of the hardcoded one

Hi, for some reason I'm using my ISP's dns, even though I've specified otherwise in wicd.
From what I can read, it might be that dhcpd is getting the addresses over dhcp and writing them to /etc/resolv.conf.
Any takes on what I can do about this?
Optimally, the settings in wicd should count, but I'll settle for configuring dhcp or resolv.conf if those are the options.

But now that it is set up, I still don't see why the profiles are a bad thing? Again, not really arguing, just trying to understand what I currently do not.
Using the dhcp-supplied dns is not an option because they are usually not the name servers I want to use.
ISP's are required by law to block certain pages on dns level here, but it is handled most unprofessionally.
A few weeks back they accidentally dumped 10.000 sites in the filter, including some of google's services. Unacceptable.
I realise the dns speed is hard to measure. But if I remember correctly, there was a notable difference when testing for some of the sites I frequent
EDIT: Just thought I'd add that circumventing the dns blocks is not illegal. So you're not helping me break the law or anything

So, my bookmarks take me to random sites instead of the correct ones. Sometimes they take me to a 'credit report' page, sometimes facebook and sometimes some site that I was on a few day before but did not bookmark. Some bookmarks work ok as well (about 10-20%). Its really confusing, seems like it could be a virus. As a mac user I have almost no experience of virus protection so I can't really tell.
Many of the bookmarks were imported from safari and still work fine in that program. I've tried emptying my firefox profile and reimporting the bookmarks from safari and from back ups but the same thing happens.
I have also tried clearing the 'places.sqlite' and 'places.sqlite-journal' files as I read that that can help, no dice though.
This has been bugging me for 3 days now and I have spent hours on it. I'm ready to give up on firefox now unless someone can help. Its a shame because I like the software but bookmaks are very important to me.
I've also tried deactivating all my plug-ins.
A fix would really make my day. Thanks in advance for an help you can offer!

I just tried to click a link for UK paper size, it loaded a google search for 'firefox bookmarks' ....what the hell is going on!

How do I change the default program to open Pages docs to the old (4.3) version instead of the new one (5.0)? When I do what Apple said and go to a Pages file in finder and select "get info" then select "Pages 4.3" and "change all" it just defaults to the new one even though I'd selected the old one. Do I need to completely uninstall the new version of Pages or is there another work around because the new version of Pages comes dreadfully short of the features I need that are included in the old one?

Actually there is a workaround.
If you open the file in Pages 5, it can then be exported on Pages 0.9 format to another folder. I had to do this as the document was only in iCloud and couldn't be recoverd by Time Machine.

If you want to change to a new iCloud accout you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account.
Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them. To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.

I use my 7th gen ipod on bluetooth and when the battery dies while on bluetooth it wont turn on or charge and the computer doesnt find it. This is my 2nd nano in just over a month. The first one had the same problem. how can i fix this?

I have the latest ipod nano (7th gen, 16gb) and I use it mostly on bluetooth. When the battery dies during use with the Bluetooth it doesn't take a charge, the battery doesn't turn on and of course the computer doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in. This is my second nano in just over a month, the same thing happen with the first one. I just want to know if their is a way to fix this so I don't have to keep sending it in? Or maybe pay the difference to upgrade to a touch?

If the battery has been completely depleted on the Nano (not really a good idea) then it is going to take 15 to 30 minutes before your computer can see it. Same thing will happen with an iPod Touch.

Why is InDesign is using fake small caps instead of the real ones included in the font?

I was trying to use the small caps in Hoefler Text, which I did by hitting the small caps button. Instead of using real small caps (which should be in proportion to the capitals), InDesign created fake small caps by scaling down the capitals (which is disgustingly ugly). I know Hoefler Text includes real small caps because I can see them in the glyphs palette. How do I get InDesign to use the real small caps instead of creating the fake ones?

Just checked the font file. "Hoefler Text" comes courtesy of Mac OS X, pre-installed with your system. It's an OpenType font with TrueType outlines (actually a collection of four styles into one single file), and its typographic features, including the Small Caps charrington42 noticed in the Glyphs panel, are guided not by OpenType features but by Apple's AAT features.
InDesign cannot use AAT features; only Apple's own software can. TextEdit, for example, can access the real small capitals:
You could submit "Please support AAT" to Adobe using the Feature Request form -- I don't see anything against it. Or perhaps just the fact that it's only applicable to a small amount of fonts, and on Mac OS X only.

At each startup my iMac turns back to the default US English keyboard, while I am using the French one. I have therefore to reselect French in the systems preferences !

Take Control of Hyperactive Gatekeeper Settings
Gatekeeper is Mountain Lion's new privacy system to keep you from installing apps that aren't approved. It also alerts you when apps try to access private information. This is pretty handy for new users, but for anyone who wants to step outside the Mac App Store ecosystem it's a bit of a pain.
To change your Gatekeeper settings open up System Preferences and click Security & Privacy. The big change here is under the General tab where the "Allow applications downloaded from" option exists. If you know what you're doing and want to use software downloaded from outside the Mac App Store you can change this setting to either "Mac App Store and identified developers" or "Anywhere" in order to use your own software.
Gatekeeper also adds a few new customization options on the Privacy tab. Here you can select which apps have access to your location and address book. When you first start launching apps that access your address book you'll get a lot of pop-ups from apps requesting that access. This is valuable information, but gets annoying over time. The Privacy tab is your one-stop shop to enabling and disabling access.

PSE 7 Organizer shows all pictures instead of the selected ones

When i make a selectin in the organizer it will always show all pictures instead of only the selection. This also happens when i create a smart photoalbum, it includes all photo's. It only adds a "not-selected sign" to the photo, but it will still show.

Are the photos with the red circle-slash icon in stacks or version sets? See this FAQ:

Can I use LAME MP3 encoder in Audition CS5.5 instead of the inbuilt one ?

If I edit a sound file in Audition and want to encode it to MP3, instead of using the inbuilt encoder is there a plugin or a way to make audition use LAME for ancoding the mp3 ?

If you want to use Lame, then probably the easiest way of using it is to download something like ExactAudioCD (free) and incorporate it into that.
Or use Audacity (also free) and the LAME codec available for that.
...but I share Charles VW's curiosity...I've never felt the need to venture away from the Fraunhofer version included with Audition.

DIS - calling another service instead of the default one

Hi,
I want to overwrite the "click on a folder" action within DIS so that it won't display the folder information page, but the content of that folder(as if the COLLECTION_DISPLAY was called instead of COLLECTION_INFO when the folder is clicked). Is this possible?

You should be able to overload the standard service via a custom component. Then, call the original code for non-DIS, and yours for DIS (if you find how to distinguish them).
