I've tested Apper and it's nice, you can use it as a update notifier too, but I really suggest to let it go, quit older habits from Ubuntu and use (and learn) pacman from terminal emulator of choice - checking output of pacman during upgrades is really important. Also none of GUI front-ends is treated as an official Arch Linux package manager so in case of incompatibility you can't blame Arch for this. It's Arch, it's about freedom of choice but pacman is foundation and one of the strongest advantages of Arch so go with the flow and don't try to make Ubuntu out of it - it will or will not suit you, it's matter of character I would say. If you are the right kind of user there is a reward - amazing system crafted (by you) to your needs with great tools and community.
You should note that pacman differ from apt-get/aptitude, it doesn't flood your screen, it's simple, logical and nice to use.
I guess you are right , I just need some time to forget Ubuntu's habits
I will let it go.

    Samia,
It would probably be best to rewrite your application to take advantage
of the 8.1 versions of Weblogic authentication and Portal property
    management.
    In 8.1 Portal :
    1. has an Authentication class where we basically use
    weblogic.servlet.security.ServletAuthentication.weak(username, password,
    request).
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/javadoc/com/bea/p13n/security/Authentication.html
    2. has a AtnManagerProxy class where we check user existence and member
of, have methods to add remove users and groups, etc.
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/javadoc/com/bea/p13n/security/management/authentication/AtnManagerProxy.html
    3. has a LdapPropertyManager EJB which is configurable through the
    p13n_ejb.jar deployment descriptors (ejb-jar.xml and
weblogic-ejb-jar.xml) for retrieving user properties from an LDAP
    Directory Server.
In 7.0+ and 8.1 Weblogic Server a new more flexible security provider
framework was added to permit more flexible use of multiple security
stores, perimeter authentication, and role mapping.

  • Package and application

What is difference between package and application.

    http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2013/03/01/sccm-2012-applications-vs-packages/
Packages are all we had in ConfigMgr 2007, You can deploy things as a package or an application.
Applications may take a little more work to add in, but you have many benefits like supersedence.
If an application that is pushed out via the application model is uninstalled by someone then it will eventually be reinstalled automatically, where as a package wouldn't.

  • Deploy software packages and applications (roles) to rolebased assets

    Hi everybody,
I'm new to SCCM and I need some advice about how to deploy software suites (fixed lists of software packages and applications) automatically to our rolebased assets. Rolebased assets are assets that have predefined software suites or 'roles'. Combinations
of several roles on a single machine are possible. We currently use Altiris NS for our software deployments. The system I have there is as follows.
    - regkey on the local machine defining the role(s) for that asset (values are streamed from our CMDB into the local registry)
    - dynamic collection for each role based on the value in the regkey
    - task assigned to the collection to install the role(s) (a fixed list of packages and applications)
    - as stated several roles can be assigned to a single asset
For the deployment of several roles to the same machine we use a in house built solution called Sequence Installer (SQI). SQI keeps track of which role it is installing and will put other roles in a queue. It also has retry and reset functionalities.
In case of failure it will automatically retry from the failed step. We can also manually restart the SQI from the start or from the failed step.
We are planning to migrate towards SCCM 2012 R2 and the purpose is to do as much as possible out-of-the-box. Meaning SQI should become obsolete and replaced by SCCM built-in functionality.
For SCCM, I'm thinking to do it like this: use the regkey to populate a collection for each role and work with a task sequence for the role installation. I'm sure that will work, but perhaps there are far better and simpler ways to do this in SCCM? Furthermore,
I'm afraid SCCM will not be as flexible as SQI when it comes to automatically retrying and/or resuming the installation sequence in case of failure (failures caused by something that doesn't need manual intervention of course, like source corruption,
    non-blocking failures, et cetera).
Another way of doing it could be UDA, create a functional user representing each role and assign software to the user. Then link the assets needing a role as primary devices to the user representing the role and pre-deploy the software (in an OSD scenario).
But again, also in this scenario I need the capability to automatically restart and retry failures.
It would be great if I could get some other opinions on the subject, thanks guys!
    Kind regards,
    Chris

nope, I did not start actual testing of the scenario, and this for several reasons (I'm sure TimDK understands what I'm talking about :-))
    - I work at a financial institution where things tend to go very slow (understatement of the year...)
    - I have a lab environment but no rights to create AD stuff for example, I have to officialy request these things and that takes time...
    - lab environment testing is very high-level (wake-on-lan, 1E nomad testing, et cetera), we'll promote in the near future to our test and development environment where more in-depth testing can be performed
In short, I'm thinking about the concept(s) that can be used, actual testing and playing with it will be for later... I thank everybody for the tips, my goal is to get some thoughts and insights from the experts, one can only learn... I will feedback later
about the what and how and which solution will actually gets implemented.
    Regards,
    Chris

  • [SOLVED] "Downloading package list..." hangs!

I have the latest ArchLinux 2007.08.1 (Don't Panic) ISO.
The first time I tried to install i did get trough "Select Packages" and got a whole system (3 days ago), then I found out, that I had forgot to make my partition bootable in cfdisk, and I rammed my head to the table. I got started reinstalling right away, but this time it wouldn't download the package list, when I selected the menu "Select Packages", it just hangs with the text "Downloading package list..." .. I tried this 3-4 times, before I changed the mirror to ftp.hosteurope.de instead of ftp.archlinux.org .. This didn't help neither.. I let it run like this all night with ftp.hosteurope.de, well I actually fell in sleep in front of the telly axciously waiting for it to finally retrive that god damn list! In the morning I rebooted again, this time I choose another mirror, didn't help!
As I said, I've been trough before, and I'm not behind a proxy or anything! It just stopped working out of the blue..
Are all mirrors just really messed up these days? Or is it the installer which is screwed?
Pinging ftp.archlinux.org just timeouts first time, and then with a ping of 145ms, connecting to the ftp just gives Connected quickly and then right after Connection failed (Connection lost) ..
ftp.hosteurope.de is not more than a ping of 30-40ms and can easily be connected to trough FTP..
    Thanks in advance

I have the onboard Marvell Yukon 8053 (Gigabyte 965P-DQ6) Gigabit-Ethernet NIC .. And as I said, it worked before ..
The bug you linked to is not near my problem, the problem is that it won't let my download the package list when I select "Select Packages" ..
    Why doesn't it matter?
    I also noticed this:
    ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/iso/2007.08.1/Known-Issues.txt
That was actually the kind of problems I had when I thought it was about flagging my boot partition bootable or not.. I've followed these steps now, Now I am just waiting to get a connection trough :S
Now I will be calling my ISP to let them know that my internet is running strangely, I've noticed now that sometimes I can't open connections, and at other times it goes trough. I'll let you know if this is a problem with my ISP/router or internet connection, I've already tried to power on/off my router and modem and I've updated router firmware.

  • Need a SCCM SQL Query Report for Installed Software with Packages and Applications.

I need a report that will show the number of installs of all of the workstations applications and packages over a given period of time.
This will let us know how effective our deployments are and how well the on-demand software is being adopted.
    Any help?

Your Install Source might be an option as most SCCM deployments will install from C:\Windows\ccmcache\xx [where xx is a random folder name]. Most software vendors will put an install source in the registry, but not all do, so it won't be completely accurate.
When software is installed manually, the install source path won't be C:\Windows\ccmcache\xx.
Here is a SQL query I have for Install Source:
SELECT v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Name0 as 'Computer Name', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ProductName0 as 'Software Title', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.InstallSource0 as 'Install Source', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ProductVersion0 as 'Version', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.InstalledLocation0
as 'Installed Location', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.InstallDate0 as 'Install Date'
    FROM v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM INNER JOIN v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE ON v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID = v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceID
    WHERE v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ProductName0 like '%Office 365 Pro%'
    ORDER BY v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Name0

  • [Solved] Downloading package binaries without pacman

I'm trying to install Arch on my little Acer Aspire One D250. Unfortunately, the installation image comes with kernel 2.6.30, which has broken drivers for all the network hardware on that machine. So, I need to download the new 2.6.32 kernel on another computer, then install it off of a USB stick with pacman -U.
So, my question is: how do I download the package binaries for the new kernel without going through pacman? TIA.

    try here http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/core/os/i686/
    or here http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/core/os/x86_64/
You can find all the mirrors in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.

  • Content Distribution for updated Packages and Applications failing on DP's

    Hi all,
Since installing SP1 for SCCM 2012 we have noted that our content distribution success rate has gone down considerably
We have a CAS, 5 Primaries and 78 DP's hanging off the various Primaries
The issue is with existing content by which it is failing on 90% of DP's when we update a package/application. Please note when we push out fresh, brand new content we get a 100% success rate
This is causing us a bit of a headache as we regularly update our OSD driver packages aswell as the security update packages
When we redistribute or update content we are presented with the below 'retying rename of' on random DP's with the content eventually erroring out
Each DP is the same, by which windows 2008 OS, Antivirus which is configured not to scan the D:\ volume and no mirroring enabled or alike configured
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue on content push?
    Regards
    Richard

Did you upgrade your DPs from 2007?  If so, I'm experiencing the same issue.
I've filed a bug on Connect, please feel free to say you can reproduce it.  I'm not sure how much help that would be, but it probably can't hurt:

  • SCCM 2012 Deployment Packages and Applications deployment order

Hello I have an application which deploys Office 2013 through SCCM 2012 I then want to copy some templates to two directories in Office. I have added a script the OFC tool which is suppose to run after the install. But the files don't appear. If I run the
same script manually all the files are copied. I ended up creating a package just for the Office Template files, but I have to run this manually afterwards. Should I Persist with the script or is there a way to run the package automatically after the application
    deployed has run?

Sounds like best solution is to create an MSI that can copy the template files and deploy as an application after Office Install. Is this something I can do in Install Shield?
Seems weird that they would have an option in the MSP to run a script but it doesn't work.
I wouldn't go to that trouble myself, but that's because I don't author MSIs as part of my role (we have a packaging team who do that task, and they seem to regard authoring an MSI as the solution for everything ;)
the ConfigMgr AppModel happily caters for all kinds of payloads, despite referring to them as "applications" there is no requirement for the payload to be an MSI.
MS have long documented that the "run scripts" and "chaining" features of the Office setup engine are "not robust" (i.e. not very tolerant, are a one-shot kind of thing). Some seem to work just fine, others have no joy with it. I don't use it myself, there
are plenty of other methods, but I find it comes down to what you are comfortable/confident/familiar with. Everything has pros and cons, and above all else, I've found that it's my/our assumptions/understandings that tend to be why things go off-course.

  • [Solved] Boot process hangs for installed Arch and installation usb

Hi. I've been using Arch Linux for around 6 months now and I'm in love with it. It is now my primary OS. However, I might have done something or performed some update, and I can no longer boot into Arch. The boot process hangs right before it should show the login screen (I'm using Gnome 3.6 with GDM). I see the following messages on the screen:
Loading Linux core repo kernel ...
    Loading initial ramdisk ...
    /dev/sda3: recovering journal
    /dev/sda3: clean, 330610/1749664 files, 5585671/6996827 blocks
And then it hangs right there. I have to hard-reboot after this.
I then tried to boot using the Arch Linux Installation USB (archlinux-2012.12.01-dual.img), which also hangs at a particular point, before it should show me the prompt. I took a picture of the screen where it hangs: Screen Capture. This is an issue with just my laptop, because the USB boots just fine on another laptop I tried.
I also have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10 installed on my system, and I'm able to boot into both of them.
I have 2 hard drives: /dev/sda is a 120GB SSD, and /dev/sdb is a 500GB hard disk. My partitions are as follows:

Ok.. So my Arch Linux randomly decided to work. I'm sure I didn't do anything between my last "not working" state and my current "working" state. Below are a few things I tried:
I thought of trying an earlier build of ArchLinux, and downloaded archlinux-2012.11.01-dual.iso and made a bootable USB out of it. It still hung.
I was getting error messages during Arch boot that the last access time for the disks was at a future date. I found out that Ubuntu was using localtime instead of UTC and screwing up my hardware clock. I fixed it, and thought maybe the time issues were causing the boot problem. But fixing time didn't solve my problem.
I chrooted into Arch from my Ubuntu install, ran 'sudo pacman -Syyu' and updated my Arch install.
I thought maybe GDM isn't starting up. I re-enabled the service using 'systemctl enable gdm.service'.
I removed OpenNTPd and installed NTPd. Enabled the daemon using 'systemctl enable ntpd'
None of the above solved the problem, and rebooting to Arch still hung the system. So I stopped fiddling with it yesterday. Today, as usual, I just tried logging into Arch.. And it just worked out of the blue. The solution to me is as mysterious as the problem.
I told this to my friend who introduced me to Arch, and this is what he said:
Damn it computers, you were supposed to be deterministic!

  • Java-JSP working with packages and classes

    Hi everybody,
I'm bearly new on Java-JSP developping and I wanted to know how Tomcat (for example) manage the imported packages and classes.
The fact is I'm working on a project ('/bob') which use some packages that I don't see in the '/bob' directory. So, is that possible that '/bob' is downloading packages and classes from Internet to '/bob/download' virtual repertory and use it? If it is true, is it possible to override this download by making '/bob' project using local packages or classes (example : com.boblibrary.classes.util in '/bob/WEB-INF/classes/com/boblibrary/classes/util') instead of downloading it?
Therefore, the '/bob' project is using bugged classes (that I think it downloads from Internet) which I can't correct.
    Thanks for your help.
    - Renaud

Thank you for your answer, but I can't imagine where is physicaly the class that my project use and show me as http://localhost:8080/atlassian-jira-3.13.2/download/ressources/br.com.ecore.jira.plugin.projectViewPlugin:ProjectViewTabPanel/js/projectviewtabpanel.js. Where is that Javascript file suppose to be on my hard drive? Or where is that class 'br.com.ecore.jira.plugin.projectViewPlugin' suppose to be on my hard drive? If it is not dowloaded from the Internet.
I have no trace of that class on 'atlassian-jira-3.13.2/', neither on 'jdk1.6.0_18/', 'jre6/' or 'apache-tomcat-5.5.28/common/classes/'.
    Thanks.

you can surely put those packages onto a removable media & to install those packs with pacman you need to copy those to /var/cache/pacman/pkg directory.
    then just do
    pacman -S package
BTW i burned this package to a dvd (wvdial) and went to my dvddrive and it wasent there:)
can't understand this. might be u r saying that u burned wvdial to a dvd & it wasn't there, so there are chances that that dvd is corrupt or burning didn't happen properly

  • Installation CD for Creative Zen Touch 40GB, or proper drivers and applications ther

I just bought a Creative Zen Touch 40GB, but it didn't come with the CD. Anyone know where I can get a CD, or find all of the correct drivers and applications for it's Thanks

You can download drivers and applications for the player on this site, just click on Support -> Downloads.
You need to download a driver (install this first), the full MediaSource Player/Organizer application and then the MediaSource plug-in.
