[Solved] Dropped tcp_wrappers | can't connect to httpd

In order to allow others to connect i used
echo "httpd : ALL : ALLOW" >> /etc/hosts.allow
After droppting of tcp_wrappers no one can connect to my machine.
I do not use any firewalls.
How can I make it available?

Seems like no one can connect to my 80 port.
Only http is unreachable.
It's not a firewall problem...
My proider suddenly blocked the port without noticing me.

Alias dropped but can still connect with the same

Hi,
I had 2 instances of sql server on server machine -
XYZ05 (SQLServer 2008R2 which was default instance and port was 1433) and XYZ05\SQL2012 (New named instance and port was 40196)
Due to some requirement we un-installed XYZ05 instance, team wanted to connect XYZ05\SQL2012 instance using default instance i.e. XYZ05. So, we created alias with same name and changed
the port from 40196 to 1433 and it was working fine.
Now, I have dropped the alias but I can still connect the server using same alias. I have checked registry, cliconfg.exe, restarted the service and server. However, I can still connect
using the alias.
Can you please tell what I missed to check or what could be the reason for alias still working?

It's because the default port 1433 is used, that's why you can only use the machine name to connect to.

SKype can't connect 7.2.0.103

I have tried around 4 posts here that happend to work for other people but it never worked for me,
I have tried clearing everything in IE, reinstall skype, change some settings in skype, change my password, reinstall skype again,
But nothing seems to solve my Skype can't connect, (it does have internet connection)
So please help me so I can use skype again !

I Got the same problem this sux

Can't connect FaceTime with iPad 2.

After entering my Apple ID I get a message saying...
FaceTime Activation
Could not sign in. Please check your
network connection and try again.
My network seems to be working fine and am able to access the internet as well as my Apple ID account through the internet.

I also had this problem and tried a number of options. Port forwarding did not do the trick and as it poses a security risk it's not the wisest thing to do anyway. But after a very long search I found another tip which was to set the DNS of every Apple device you want to run FaceTime on, to 8.8.8.8
I tried this, and now FaceTime works on my iPad2 wifi/32 and also on my iMac and my MacBook Pro. On the same wireless network!
So this action seems to solve both the "can't connect" problem and the problem of not being able to run FaceTime at the same time on multiple Macs.
Just to make sure you should write down the original DNS address which is probably 10.0.0.138..
On iPad2, exit FaceTime, then go to settings, find the wireless network you're using, and tap the blue arrow thing next to the network name. There you will be able to access the DNS number. Just change it and save settings, then start FaceTime again.

[SOLVED] Intel 7260 Vaio can't connect to wifi

Hi there,
First off, I should mention that I know my way around Linux but I'm pretty new to Arch, so there might be things that I know that don't apply here.
So, I have this problem with this network, I can't connect to it and frankly I don't know why. I was on Ubuntu until a few days ago and I still had the problem. I posted on the Ubuntu forum >>here<< and I was told to upgrade, but as I've been willing to move to Arch for quite some time, I thought that was maybe the time. BUT, the problem is still there, which worries me.
To sum it up, about one or two weeks ago, I was connecting fine to this network (ZyXEL) and then after a reboot, no way to connect to it, no matter what I try. I have noticed an error message that keeps coming back all the time (see below) and the wifi indicator in i3status sometimes flashes me with an IP while I'm trying to connect then eventually the network disappears (not with wicd, only nm). Those are basically the symptoms.

I have had troubles with the wifi in the past (from what I read on the internet, this card is not yet fully supported everywhere) but nothing like this. Usually, disconnecting and reconnecting did the trick, sometimes I had to restart NetworkManager in extreme cases, but nothing more.
I tried a lot of things (modprobe, rfkill, firmware update, etc), rebooted everything I could but couldn't do anything. I have found bug reports and forums posts of similar problems but the solutions there either didn't work for me or the problem just seem to have disappeared for some people. I read that this card was not really supported before the kernel 3.11 or 3.13 but now I have 3.16 and it's still there. What's really bugging me is that I could successfully connect to this network a couple weeks ago...
On the Ubuntu forum, they have a script that displays useful information when posting about wireless problems. I have taken off the Ubuntu specific bits and I think this will save you some time asking me to run commands. One thing is not mentioned in the script: I use wicd.

I have the exact same problem, appeared completely random. I had several restarts this Christmas on the laptop, even after upgrades. I blamed the ath driver. But I noticed when I restart the router by plugging out it from the wall, then in again, sometimes it's working.
I carefully changed every possible settings in the router, then I found if I disable IPv6 (yes, it's capable of that despite Sky does not provide IPv6 service) it started to work even after multiple reboots. It took mi a while since the new year.
I'm using connman and when it was wrong, connman was completely frozen. If I entered "connmanctl scan wifi", it never quit. Same for "connmanctl state".
I also noticed that the router LED was blinking continuously and on the laptop when I checked the connection status with ifconfig it showed very high usage of TX packets. It also blocked the whole wifi, so my phone was not able to access the internet. Strange problem, I'm unsure what caused it and not quite sure how disabling IPv6 solved it. But I'm also afraid that maybe somewhere else I can't disable IPv6 on the router.

Airport Extreme dropping out and can't connect PC anymore

Suddenly, a couple of weeks ago, my internet connection dropped in the middle of surfing. I couldn't reconnect, Airport was only seeing the base station spasmodically and when I did try to connect I was being asked for a password which wasn't recognised. Hours later I called the support line and was advised to do a hard reset which I did, new name, same password. Now I'm reconnected most of the time, but it has dropped out a few times and the signal seems generally weaker. Something's not right.
I had not at that point done the July 1st update so it's not to do with that. I haven't a clue why it suddenly started playing up so strangely. (Though I have noticed a new unsecured wireless network in range and wondered if someone was 'hacking')
My main problem is that my business partner, who connects through a pc here (who remained connected incidentally when I first lost the connection) and continued to be able to connect until I did the hard reset. Now I can't connect that pc to the airport extreme. It sees it but gives an error message saying it's out of range and refresh the list when I try to connect. I fiddled about for hours. I've forgotten how the pc was set up in the first place and I'm going nuts. Can anyone help.

Disappointed not to see any help on this one.
If it helps anyone out there to help me, I just uploaded the Airport Utility Software to the pc, typed in base station ID and password. Error message, check network connections. No help.
Try to connect the pc again the usual way from the list of available networks, it asks for password, I use it, then it says it needs to be 5 or 10 ASCII characters or 20 hexadecimal.
What I don't understand is that everything was working fine on both machines until two weeks ago when my base station went into spasm, dropped me but happy with pc, when I did the hard reset, keeps me, won't allow pc to connect.
I just don't know what to do now. Of course I suppose I could always make a call and pay £35 to have an apple technician tell me why their hardware suddenly screwed up for no apparent reason.

Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. [solved] Can't connect to samba shares

This is probably my fault, but for the life of me I can't figure this out. I started out trying to get usershares to work by following the wiki at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/samba, and I am unable to connect to the resulting shares either from the local host or from my netbook. It tells me permission denied. I then tried creating a public share with guest access, because I couldn't get the usershares to work. I am unable to get that working either. I have
chmod 777 -R
the folder I am sharing, as well as the
/var/lib/samba/usershare
folder. Please help. Here is my smb.conf:

uninstalled samba, reinstalled it. deleted old config file. created new config with just the contents that the wiki states is necessary for usershares to work. the current smb.conf looks like

added my user to samba using
pdbedit -a -u mdshann
started smbd and nmbd and enabled both. tried to share a folder, caja says samba is not installed. use yaourt to search for caja and find package mate-file-manager-share. installed said package, killed and restarted caja. shared folder and told it to add permissions automatically. checked the boxes to allow guest and to allow users to change files. still I cannot connect. just for reference, I have used the wiki article sections from the beginning of the article through adding a user. I did not use the creating a share section as I want usershares to work through MATE and CAJA. It creates the share and it is visible on the network, I just can't connect to it.
Pretty much the same as what I tired before, with the same result. Only difference is I haven't tried manually creating the share through smb.conf, but that didn't work before either. No reason to think it will work now, the problem was the same whether I used the gui usershares option or adding the share to smb.conf.
I was able to get samba working with a very similar config file as in my first post, on arch based manjaro on my server at work. I did not enable or use usershares at work, but creating the shares in smb.conf worked just fine. Why will the same procedure not work on arch? Same packages for the most part, manjaro just adds a few. In fact, when I set up samba on manjaro, I used the arch wiki article, as Manjaro's wiki is sparse. Main reason we used manjaro at work was the speed of installation was much quicker, and we needed the machine back up quickly so we could start backing up our customers data. (I own a PC repair shop.)
On a side note, this community has served me well in the past the few times I have have issues since I started using arch 5 years ago. Why my post has gone so long without a reply other than being chastised for trying to call attention to a 3 day old unanswered thread is beyond me, but I am not thrilled by it. It has now been a full 2 weeks since my original post. I have never had this issue before, and if I can't bump or somehow call attention to my thread I am unsure of how to get help. Am I supposed to keep posting new threads on the same issue? I would think those would get closed rather quickly if I had. Should I post nonsense on this thread, I mean anything other than the word bump. A discussion of cat videos maybe?

[SOLVED] Can't connect to internet after installation

Hello, I just installed Arch, and during the installation I connected to wifi (obviously, since I had to download the packages) with iwconfig and all the other tools on the installer, but after the installation I wasn't connected any more. I have no idea how to connect to the internet now, all the guides online say to run iwconfig or any of the other connection tools, which I can't do since I don't HAVE them.
I can't connect through ethernet either, I think either the ethernet port on my laptop is broken, or the drivers just aren't working (apparently people on the forums have the same problem with my chipset). My friend told me to try sudo wifi-menu, but apparently I need to install dialog for that, which, of course, requires internet connection.
Should I plug in the USB again, and try something with that? Is there any way to set up a wifi connection without using all the fancy connection tools that I don't have? Sorry if I'm being dumb, I have absolutely no idea how to connect. The wiki doesn't help, and neither does google.

I think with the last few times I've done an ArchLinux installation, I've literally set-up the whole thing (as in done base, base-devel, networkmanager, X and a DE) in the Arch LiveCD. LightDM isn't happy being set-up in the LiveCD environment though I've noticed.
For this, I use pacstrap for base and base-devel and then pacman for the rest.
