[Solved] Elan touchpad wrongly recognized as PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse

In my Samsung QX310 I have an Elan multitouch touchpad. It's recognized (by kernel? xorg? udev?) as PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse and it works as one (no scrolling, multitouch, etc.)
options psmouse force_elantech=1
in psmouse.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/ doesn't help
sudo rmmod psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse force_elantech=1
don't change anything
In my case modprobe psmouse doesn't react to any arguments, every time it loads PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse. There aren't any errors in dmesg either.
I have xf86-input-synaptics and even xf86-input-multitouch-git installed.
I have also tried many combinations in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf but I think the main problem is here
$ xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
Is there any option to force psmouse (modprobe?) to load Elantech driver?
This should be solved in kernel 2.6.34 (I have 2.6.37.5) but apparently something is wrong with my configuration. Any guesses?
Edit:
It seems psmouse can't recognize newer elan touchpads. Here are the bug reports
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27442
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/681904
I have forced psmouse to use elantech protocol (by changing psmouse.c) but touchpad didn't work at all, so for now everybody with elan smart-pad (almost every newer samsung notebook) are stuck without scrolling and multitouch.
Edit Solved, the proper patch is at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27442

Take a look at this thread and my last post, I have AUR and binary package: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 25#p973025

  • Touchpad recognized as PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse

    Hi,
    So far I have been unable to get to work the touchpad in my ASUS R510L (or X550LD). The touchpad is recognized as a mouse, the output of xinput list is:
    $ xinput list
    ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
    ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse id=14 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ USB_PS2 Optical Mouse id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]

    ↳ Asus WMI hotkeys id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]
    Following the wiki, first I installed the psmouse-alps-driver from the AUR, it didn't worked. Then I tried the psmouse-elantech and it also didn't work.
    I also tried the module psmouse-alpsv7-driver by he1per (https://github.com/he1per/psmouse-dkms-alpsv7) but didn't help. Of course I tried the modules having the previous one uninstalled and the default psmouse module reloaded. The touchpad is always recognized as a mouse (Either PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse, or Ps/2 Generic Mouse or Elantech mouse).
    I keep getting this error constantly in dmesg, but I think it is a consequence rather than the source of the error:
    psmouse serio4: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio4
    So I keep the module psmouse unloaded. I'm using the kernel 3.14.2-1. Of course the synaptic driver never gets to load, I tried to forced it in the Xorg configuration but it didn't help.
    Running hwinfo ith the psmouse module loaded gives:
    $ hwinfo

    Without psmouse loaded it recognizes it also recognizes it as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse.
    Does anyone know what else can I try?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, I just found this Launchpad bug:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1325881
    Is for Ubuntu 14.04, but seems to be the same bug I've got. It also affects other Asus models. So far I haven't found the problem.

  • [Solved] Touchpad recognized as Logitech Wheel Mouse

    I am trying to get my touchpad working on an Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4830T-6642 but the touchpad is being recognized as a "Logitech Wheel Mouse".
    I am unsure if the laptop is using an Elantech or Synaptics touchpad as it only seems to see the touchpad as a regular pointer. I have attached output that I think could be relevant. Let me know if anything else would be helpful.

    I have found a kernel patch at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27442 that is suppose to fix the problem. Can anyone help guide me on patching the Arch kernel? I have installed ABS and created a build directory. Need some help with the pkgbuild though.

    The touchpad on my Asus U46SV laptop is being detected as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse. Therefore no touchpad driver is loaded and all fancy features (two-finger scrolling, disable while typing, etc) are unavailable. How can I fix this?

    Interestingly enough, the same thing happens in Windows on my U46E - the Synaptics driver recognizes the touchpad only as a PS/2 mouse and two-finger scroll won't work.
    Edit: The elantech module you posted fixes the problem on the U46E, too. Thanks! Now to fix it for Windows...

  • Touchpad detected as ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse

    I have an Asus laptop (not an eee pc), and my touchpad is detected incorrectly.  It thinks it is a "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse."  I have tried to use the synaptics driver by configuring /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>

    </match>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">
    <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string">synaptics</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton1" type="string">1</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton2" type="string">2</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton3" type="string">3</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    but this causes the touchpad to stop working entirely.  Here is the relevant section of my Xorg.0.log

    Is there some way I can let my system know that this is indeed a touchpad so I can configure it properly?

    I can't really gather anything useful from dmesg.  Here's the possibly relevant output:

  • Touchpad not recognized on Asus Zenbook UX303LA

    Hello,
    I recently purchased an Asus Zenbook UX303LA and just installed Arch on it today. So far everything has been working (display, wireless, audio), but I'm having some issues with the trackpad. It doesn't appear to be recognized correctly and is showing up as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse. I'm not sure how to find out what modules I need, or even what the logical next steps are in debugging. Any help would be appreciated!

    I'm not sure what else would be of use for debugging, but I'm happy to try anything.

    Hi,
    By now, the drivers have been merged into mainline linux. I got my zenbook ux303ln yesterday and decided to try it out. I've got some problems with it. The mouse cursor just stays in the middle of the screen and cannot be moved. I can click though. I got the kernel from the mainline AUR repo, version 4.0-rc3. Tested it both under gnome and cinnamon.
    Has someone else got it working with the mainline kernel? Does anyone have some suggestions on what I should try next?
    dmesg output with 3.18 kernel:
    [ 1.636871] input: PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad in mouse emulation mode as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input17
    With mainline kernel:
    [ 1.236838] input: FocalTechPS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input15
    EDIT: Appending xorg output. Seems ok to me though.

    EDIT2:
    The error was that I had not installed xf86-input-synaptics. I didn't think this would be needed since it isn't a synaptic touchpad. A bit confusing. Now everything works great, I really recommend trying the mainline kernel if you got a zenbook UX303.

  • [solved] Synaptics Touchpad works in GDM but not in Gnome Session

    Hey,
    i just installed arch x86_64 to a Amilo Pa 3553 Notebook with synaptics touchpad driver.
    It's working in gdm perfectly but after login i cannot click, wether tabbing nor klicking.
    But i can move the coursor.
    Touchpad is recognized in Xorg.log without any errors or warnings.
    Any Idea what went wrong?
    SOLVED
    It was just a check in the gnome touchpad settings at "Mausklick per Touchpad freischalten".
    Sorry, i don't know in english, but it means something like "activate Click per touchpad"

    I too am having the same problem. This only seems to happen after I connect to a projector by the VGA port on my Lenovo T500. I use the display port to connect to a 30" apple cinema display and have no issues. Have not had much luck in finding what changes in the gnome config when this problem arises.
    I am looking forward to anyone being able to explain what is actually changing and why. WIll continue to dig into this and post a workaround if I find one.

  • I can't configure elan touchpad after service

    Hi!
    My laptop is G580, i7. OS: Windows 8.1.
    After service (touchpad change), I can't configure the new one. I tried with different drivers - installing and uninstalling - nothing has change. "Options" in "ELAN" tab doesn't work.... When I start programs in Elantech folder, I change the settings, but it doesn't affect touchpad. Please, help!

  • G700 and Elan touchpad sensitivity

    Hi,
    I own a Lenovo G700 Windows 8 laptop.. which I truly like, except for the ELAN touchpad. I've tried several settings with palmtrack and sensitivity and still de trackpad register tab events at random times or when hardly touched. After a while it gets a little better, but still... very annoining.
    It seems very very buggy, the driver (in windows 8)? I checked the driver of the ELAN trackpad and that is the latest one available through the support centre?
    Anyone any suggestion how I can better the trackpad behavior on my G700 with (buggy) windows 8??
    Thanks in advance,
    hgr

    hi hgr,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    Can you try uninstalling the driver under Device Manager. on the pop up asking to delete Driver Software place a check on it.
        - Check Control Panel for other related ELAN/Egis Software and Uninstall it.
    Try using the touchpad after restart and check if the response is more ok with you.
    As an alternative try downloading and installing this one
    http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v16_3_15_1_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed...
    Some users were able to install synaptics and reported to work fine
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers!

  • Satellite M50-A - changing settings on Elan Touchpad

    My new Satellite M50-A has a Elan Touchpad P2/2m Bus touchpad.the driver is 11.8.13.3
    I'm using Windows 8.1 64bit.
    I want to disable the "hover to select" and the "tap to click" feature, I have searched everywhere so I just hope someone here can help as it is driving me mad.

    After hours of searching I found a couple of suggestions.
    *1.* They uninstalled theElan drivers, rebooted, and it said it had successfully installed the Elan software. It had installed earlier drivers and I now have version 7.0.5.11 which works as it should. I have disabled tap to click and it works!
    I tried that but without sucess so I had no option but to go for the second one I found that involved editing the registry, someting I wasn't keen on but I backed to be safe I backed it up (use System Restore or follow
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756)
    *2.* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad and change Tap_Enable to 0 and then log out and back in. For me this was partially sucessful and I decided to edit again and this time alter Tap_Activate_Enable to 0 and Tap_One_Finger_Enable to 0
    *Sucess!!*
    From what I have learned it is the settings in the Elan options not being reflected in the registry, just a guess
    I would hope that Toshiba and Elan sort it out otherwise there will be a lot of frustrated people out there who like me will think twice before buying another Toshiba Laptop. After spending hundreds of pounds I would at least expect to be able to adjust the main interface to work how I want it and not to have to spend hour upon hour trying to fix it.

  • ELAN touchpad

    I've just bought a G400S  notebook and I hated the ELAN touchpad. It has a very bad usability. Is it possible to replace it by another one ? Anyone could explain me how to do it ? Thanks !

    Hi Jeferson,
     Thank you for replying, I apologize for the delay in reply.
     As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with the ELAN touchpad for your Lenovo G400s laptop.
    As you have mentioned that ELAN touchpad is unable to use properly, try to update the drivers of the touchpad.
    As you have mentioned to replace the touchpad, I would suggest you to visit the nearest service centre for further details.
    Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
    Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.
    Best regards,

  • [solved] Digital Camera not recognized in device-manager

    My digital camera "Canon Powershot SX120 is" is not recognized by the devicemanager. I have read Digital Cameras.
    $ groups
    wheel storage users printadmin
    The "camera"-Group isn't needed anymore and this group doesn't exist on my system.
    The Powershot SX 120 has a  MTP/PTP connection mode (as the manual says). But:
    # mtp-detect
    Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6
    Listing raw device(s)
    No raw devices found.
    gphoto succeed:
    $ gphoto2 --auto-detect
    Modell Port
    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS usb:002,019
    A gphoto --summary could be found here
    There is no udev-rule for this camera. If i create one while copying a rule from a similar camera from /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules, and store it into /etc/udev/rules.d/69-canon.rules, the device-manager shows up. My udev-rule:
    # Canon PowerShot SX120AX (PTP/MTP mode)
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="31e0", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"
    The device-manager shows me only the option to open with a file-manager. Doing so will result in an error:
    The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/ do not exist.
    With my udev-rule:
    solid-hardware listen
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QDBusObjectPath)
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QDBusObjectPath)
    Listening to add/remove events:
    Device Added:
    udi = '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
    Without the active udev-rule, "solid-hardware listen" produces nothing, but
    udevadm monitor
    monitor will print the received events for:
    UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
    KERNEL - the kernel uevent
    KERNEL[5077.662572] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8 (usb)
    KERNEL[5077.662655] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/2-8:1.0 (usb)
    UDEV [5077.681178] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8 (usb)
    UDEV [5077.693035] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/2-8:1.0 (usb)
    Don't know what to do ... is a udev-rule necessary to bring up the message from device-manger? Or is the Camera not recognized as a mtp-device (the Camera has no such settings)? How could i figure it out?
    With Digikam i could import Fotos, but i would do so with gwenview. I've tried to check it out with gwenview_importer:
    $ gwenview_importer --udi '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
    QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
    gwenview_importer: Missing required source folder argument.
      (don't care about the different udi, i took this example from a former try) but i don't know, how to find out where the "source folder" is ...

    I have solved this by making an extra udev-rule for my camera. See my adventure on forum.kde.org for details

  • [Solved]Synaptics Touchpad not working at all on Fujitsu Siemens UH552

    Hi,
    I have just installed Arch on my Fujitsu Siemens UH552 laptop. Everything works except for the touchpad which seems to get loaded by Xorg, but when in X it doesn't work. I have tried both using /dev/input/event* and /dev/input/mouse0 as device paths, neither works.
    xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics are installed.
    I have tried running both with the default 10-evdev.conf, with 10-synaptics.conf, with both, and without both.
    TLDR SOLUTION: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1189603
    My current 10-synaptics.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Touchpad Catchall"
    MatchIsTouchpad "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    Option "TapButton2" "2"
    Option "TapButton3" "3"

    psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout

    I have tried doing that with both linux mint, and now fedora live usb. Neither one loads the touchpad correctly.  So yeah, our problems weren't really related
    Anyway, I tried looking into the
    psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
    messages, and tried running psmouse proto (defined in /etc/modprobe.conf/psmouse.conf) as both raw and imps as per https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s … ion/206950 Unfortunately, that didn't solve anything. Using the raw setting meant that the touchpad wasn't loaded at all (as in not appearing in the Xorg.log at all).
    The laptop is quite new, but at the same time what i figured from the touchpad vendor & product ID, the touchpad itself isn't. So it should technically work. Before installing arch i booted into windows to see if everything worked, and found no issues with the touchpad. So I have ruled out any hardware errors. Maybe its just the Fn-key that doesn't work yet in Linux? But that doesn't explain the "psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout" Any pointers to where I should look/ what commands I should run to delve deeper into this issue?
