[SOLVED] enable apache ssl to use httpS at will for any vhost

Hi,
I have enabled ssl on my apache install without a problem by including the file httpd-ssl.conf in my http.conf.
I have tested access by trying to access my phpmyadmin install by going to my site: https://example.com/phpmyadmin
However, when trying to use a vhost with https, it doesn't work, I get redirected to a default page (first configured vhost) as https.
If I modify the vhost like this, adding 443:
<VirtualHost *:80 *:443>
</VirtualHost>
I get an error "(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)".
If I just add to the vhost config file instead like this:
NameVirtualHost *:80
NameVirtualHost *:443
SSLStrictSNIVHostCheck off
then I still only get the default site, but not my vhost site under ssl.
Any pointers on getting this to work? I want to be able to universally add an "s" to "http" for any vhost whenever I feel like it to encrypt traffic...
Thanks!
EDIT: Here's the solution I found. I disabled ssl on apache by commentingout the httpd-ssl.conf-Include directive in httpd.conf.
Then I installed stunnel and pointed it to my server key and certificate and enabling https connections to forward to port 80 on localhost.
One gotcha to look out for was to put "https: ALL" into the /etc/hosts.allow file as stunnel apparently uses this to decide whether a client can connect.

Apache is already listening on 443, otherwise it wouldn't work at all when I access https://example.com/phpmyadmin. My problem is that instead of responding by serving the requested vhost, apache serves only the default vhost page. For example, https://x.example.com, https://y.example.com, https://z.example.com all serve my default page at https://example.com instead of the corresponding vhost. Any idea as to what to configure so that apache serves the requested vhost under https?
EDIT: clarification

  • SSL Cert used to sign Jars for distribution via WebStart

    Hi,
I have an SSL cert (Comodo InstallSSL) for my website and wondered if I can use it to sign jars so, when distributed via webstart, the old "untrusted source" message doesn't get displayed. I've been doing a lot of reading but, to be honest, I can't really find my bearings! I have imported the cert into my keystore but get the message when I try to sign a jar:
Certificate chain not found for: myalias  myalias must reference a valid KeyStore key entry containing a private key and corresponding public key certificate chain.I have the following files in relation to my cert:
xxx.cabundle (this can be imported into keytool easily)
cert/xxx.crt (looks like a PGP file, cannot be imported (-import) into keytool)
    private/xxx.key
    My questions I suppose are:
    1. Can I use a cert issued for SSL to sign jars for webstart distribution?
    2. If yes to 1; what steps other than importing the cert alone (which generates the message above) do I need to do to achieve this?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Rich

    Hi,
yes, the pkcs12 certificate includes the private key, as opposed to pb7 which does not.

  • Using iPhone as Storage for any docs

Does anyone know how can I user iphone as storage device? I had motorola phone with 8 gigs mem card, where I could drag any docs (word, excell or any pics and music) I know it's pain here already with all the podcasts that I downloaded to transfer to a different PC, how can I transfer Word docs?

You mean you want to be able to take work files from one computer, upload them to the iPhone, then download them another, different computer? Just making sure I understand what you want to do.
I do not know of any universal file transfer app like that, other than using some cloud-type storage perhaps as a go between computer(s) and iPhone.
For MSOffice docs specifically, there is QuickOffice, which allows editing of MSOffice documents on the iPhone. QO transfers files between computer and the iPhone via an embedded (in the app on the iPhone) wifi web server. You enable the file transfer web server on the iPhone, and then connect via a URL in a web browser on any computer you wish that is on the same wifi subnet. Once the web page loads on the computer, you can upload or download files to/from the iPhone.
Because of the app compartmentalization of the iOS, the office files on the iPhone would only be accessible from within QuickOffice.

  • I created a book at the Ibooks author. But there are pages where the number of the page does not appear. How I can solve this problem? I thank you very much for any tip.

I created a book at the Ibooks author. But there are some pages which the number of page is not visible. What can I do to see the number of the page?

    Have you changed the template?
Some pages may not have numbers in place as default.  If you have changed the page or the template page, you may have added a object which as pushed the number out of view, or an image may be in a layer on top of the text.
If you select one object on the page...then go to Edit, select all, you should see the outlines of any content no matter that content may not be seen. Look at the bottom for a page width rectangle outline.. IF its there, you need to shuffle the content until you find that box, and use Arrange > bring to front.

  • I use Premiere CS 3 for any AVCHD work i do

I won't use media encoder unless it's like really easy and short, like under a minute
one time i used it to convert several 1 to 10 minute long avchd clips to f4v or flv don't remember and it actually worked without causing serious sanity questioning.
however, i can say without getting into specifics or wanting to barf when people say its great is this,
it sucks.  it's unreliable for fast work of meaningful scope and length (talking heads, no corporate 90s videos and no TED talk slideshows) and i'd use final cut any day and wait on it cause the image quality is almost always better, i've had better luck using bridge to import full timelines into after effects from premiere cs4 and outputting there, i did do that once, i don't remember how because it was out disbelief that i had to.
premiere cs4 with avchd is also awful.
premiere cs3 for exporting and using avchd, is absolutely superb, the abomination that is ame cs4 makes me sick to the point of getting another camcorder so i never have to use it or premiere again, unless it's premiere cs3 or cs2 if cs2 could handle avchd.
i mean this in the best of ways, MEncoder CS4, is awful
NOW YOU THINK YOU GUYS CAN PUT TRUE vanishing point features in Ae so i can keyframe it?  or is that still too hard or not of interest
and in the Ae timeline, EVER HEARD OF FOLDERS?

Reinstall CS5 and see if that re-writes the common files for you. If it does not, you'll have to uninstall both versions, run the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 ) and then reinstall first CS4, then CS5.

  • [CS3 JS SDK] Possible to Use HTTP URLs for Links?

I am attempting to use JavaScript to implement a connector from CS3 (InDesign/InCopy in my case) to our content management system. Our CMS provides an HTTP-based API. By using the HttpConnection object (from the Bridge code, see posts on "httpwebaccess library") I can access our repository using HTTP URLs and, for example, get an InDesign document or INX file (and the UI support in CS3 scripting makes it possible for me to build all the UI components I need without having to write a true plugin).
However, what I *can't* seem to do is create Link objects that use a URL, rather than a File, to access resources.
My goal is to be able to store in our repository InDesign documents that use URLs to other resources in the repository for links (e.g., to graphics and InCopy articles).
However, as far as I can tell from the scripting documentation and my own experiments, the URL property on Link is read-only in JavaScript (even though the scripting API HTML indicates it's a read/write property) and Link instances can only be constructed using File objects.
My question: have I missed some trick in the scripting API (or elsewhere) that would allow me to create links that use URLs instead of files (and having done so would InDesign resolve those URLs?)? Our repository does support WebDAV, so that might be an option, but it would depend on mounting WebDAV services in consistent places on client machines, which is dicey at best, given the weak nature of the WebDAV clients on both Windows and OS X).
Or are my only options to either copy linked resources to the client's local file system (or a shared network drive) or implement a plugin that implements my desired behavior for links?
And if the answer is a plugin, will that even work?
This is in the context of CS3. Has the Link mechanism changed at all in CS4 such that I could do what I want in CS4 where I cannot in CS3?
    Thanks,
    Eliot

    Hi,
It is not possible to use HTTP URLS in CS3. You will have to create a plug-in to use Custom Data Links.
I think it is possible to use HTTP URLs in CS4 as per the User Guide.

    Anderson

  • Can't use http in ios 8 simulator

I have installed xcode 6, on a mac book pro (Maverick 10.9.5) When I try to use the ios simulator running ios 8 on virtual iPhone 5s, and try to connect to any site that is not using https, I get a blank page stating that "Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost" in the simulator. Any page that uses https works fine.
    Any clue ?

I have Xcode 6.1.1 and I'm still having problems.  http and https both.  It's not just safari either.  Other applications can't access the network either.
Could these errors give any additional information?

  • Using http live streaming

Hello.  For a project I am working on, I need to design a secure streaming system for audio files such that they can be streamed but not downloaded (due to copy right issues).  I was looking into http live streaming as a possible solution.  However, I am new to developing web applications and the like and was hoping for some help, maybe links to sample code, how to use http live streaming for my server/in my code, etc.  In particular, I was hopping to make the streaming available to firefox, safari, and apple mobile devices.  I am hoping to develop this using html 5.
    Thanks.

I have same issue with 64bit Safari 5.1 and 10.6.8.
Video plays if not protected. If Protected says "Loading" and never plays.
With 32bit Safari looks the same but...
There is a login window behind the Safari window. If I find it and login, mp4 plays.
    Is quite annoying. Any fixes?

  • How to search in Pages for any number or any character, using wildcards

Is it possible in Pages to use wildcards to search for any instance of any number? For example, I want to find all occurrences of any one or two digits followed by a colon, such as 8: or 37:

    Hello
    Here is an enhanced version.
    --[SCRIPT highlight_ digitspluscolon]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : highlight_ digitspluscolon.scpt
déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    --=====
Save the script as a Script: highlight_ digitspluscolon.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Open a Pages word processor document.
go to the Scripts Menu, choose Pages, then choose "highlight_ digitspluscolon"
In the text objects, the background of groups of digits
with a trailing colon will be set to red.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.

    OK, solved.
    What I made wrong:
https://localhost leads to the apache page
https://localhost/owncloud leads to the owncloud page.
(Just as an information if there are other apache noobs like me...)
