[SOLVED]epiphany 3.12.0 - plugins?
Hello,
As you may know, extensions.gnome.org is offering an "automatic" way to install extensions of gnome-shell, but when trying to use it on Arch/epiphany 3.12.0, I get this:
We cannot detect a running copy of GNOME on this system, so some parts of the interface may be disabled. See our troubleshooting entry for more information.
If you are using GNOME 3.4 or newer and installation still doesn't work, check to make sure that the "GNOME Shell Integration" plugin is installed and enabled in your browser preferences. Some browsers have a feature, click-to-play, which make it so the plugin cannot start without user intervention. Make sure that either http://extensions.gnome.org is whitelisted for the click-to-play feature, or click-to-play is turned off entirely. Check your browser's help for more details.
I asked the gnome developers, and they said epiphany may be missing the plugins
Is there a way to install this plugin from pacman, or it's not supported?
Edit: Nevermind, after installing firefox somehow it all works.

I spoke too soon. When I resume, my Ethernet device mysteriously disappears after several seconds. It will not show in ifconfig, and "ifconfig <device name> up" complains about a nonexistent device. This only happens on kernel 3.12.
@siliconmeadow, will you please confirm whether you experience the same issue?
After poking through "journalctl -b", I found enp3s0f2 started normally (20:53:11), but a few seconds later (20:53:17) the carrier was mysteriously turned off. Then, ntpd deleted the ethernet interface. See <http://sprunge.us/QdeU>.
And when using ifconfig to try to bring the Ethernet device back up: (Note: Wifi works. It's only Ethernet that dies.)

There was no change.
I am out of ideas to attempt, what can I do to fix it?
Last edited by finalfortune (2014-02-12 10:38:48)Okay, my sound now magically works for flash. I initially had not restarted my pc after installing the above mentioned pulseaudio packages. I didn't think it necessary, not even sure if it is the restart that fixed it, but problem solved.
Though i did change my .asound.rc from
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
to
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
ctl.!default {

Not sure if that did anything

[solved]eclipse wont install ecb plugin
Hello,
i'm trying to install ecb plugin from eclipse, but it just wont get installed. I tried to install eclipse-ecb from arch repository, but after installing it. eclipse doesn't have an option to create any c/c++ project. Ok, then i thought install it from eclipse repo. So i added http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/indigo as repo in eclipse checked "C++ development tools" hit install and then eclipse started to download the packages, but suddenly on 33 percent i get this:
An error occurred while collecting items to be installed

Then i deleted .eclipse directory and tried again and again, and i always run in to this issue, even if i try to install ecb from a local repo. Please help me to investigate the problem.
Solution: uninstall eclipse, delete /usr/share/eclipse, reinstall.
Last edited by irrlicht (2012-02-06 22:49:40)Thanks for the hint, inxsible, downgrading to JRE 1.6 solved it.
For the sake of others who might run into the same problem: I downloaded jre-6u26-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz from the Arch Rollback Machine, installed it (
pacman -U jre-6u26-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
) and added
jre
to the
IgnorePkg
line in
/etc/pacman.conf
so it won't get replaced in the next update.
After doing that, Eclipse suffered PermGen Out-of-memory-errors. Adding
-XX:MaxPermSize=128M
to
/usr/share/eclipse/eclipse.ini
fixed that and now m2e installs fine. -
[SOLVED]epiphany, default applications
Hi,
after installing gimp epiphany used it as the default application for opening pdf files...very annoying,
i worked around that with this hack:
cp ~/.mozilla/firefox/3la1zdhr.default/mimeTypes.rdf ~/.gnome2/epiphany/mozilla/epiphany/
looks like gnome is in the process of ripping out the firefox backend....so this will probably be solved in the future.
but for now i would like to tell epiphany to download .nzb files to some specific dir or open it with a shell script - how do i do that?
Last edited by metalfan (2009-02-16 23:01:53)I have the same problem. From what I can see, it's because gimp is listed before evince in /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache:
grep pdf /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
This file is generated with the update-desktop-database command. So I came up with two non-permanent solutions.
1. Put evince before gimp in /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache and repeat each time the update-desktop-database command is run, like when you update an application.
OR
2. Remove the pdf entry from MimeType line in /usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop and run update-desktop-database as root. You've got to repeat this fix whenever you update gimp.
I hope that helps. -
[Solved] Can't find sqlite plugin for QT (quassel)
It's called qt4-sqlite-plugin in other distros. I'm not quite sure what's wrong since I have qt installed.
Selected storage backend is not available: "SQLite"

Currently, Quassel only supports SQLite3. You need to build your Qt library with the sqlite plugin enabled in order for quasselcore to work.
2.6.30-ARCH, x86_64.
Last edited by canuckkat (2009-10-06 19:10:15)The Arch "qt" package already includes the SQLite backend. You only need to install "sqlite3" and it should work.
[marti@newn]% pacman -Ql qt |grep sqlite
qt /usr/lib/qt/plugins/sqldrivers/libqsqlite.so
[marti@newn]% ldd /usr/lib/qt/plugins/sqldrivers/libqsqlite.so |grep sqlite
libsqlite3.so.0 => /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0 (0x00007fe00aa04000)
[marti@newn]% pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0
/usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0 is owned by sqlite3 3.6.18-1
[marti@newn]% python
>>> from PyQt4 import QtSql
>>> db=QtSql.QSqlDatabase('QSQLITE')
>>> db.setDatabaseName('/tmp/mydb.sqlite')
>>> db.open()
True

[SOLVED] Can't get Flash plugin to work.
Hi, all.
I have done a fresh install of Arch, but am still using my previous /home partition.
I've installed mozplugger, Flash and Firefox, but the Flash plugin doesn't function.
Can anyone tell me how I can get around this?
Many thanks,
Chris.
Last edited by chris_debian (2009-03-12 12:11:53)I do not have any value in $MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH. Manually exporting from an xterm, and spawing firefox from the same xterm makes firefox realise I have plugins.
1) I have logged in/out, and rebooted multiple times after firefox's installation, and after flash installation
2) I do have, and am using bash(even to startx), /etc/profile _is_ being called. However /etc/profile does not have a $MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH variable set in it anywhere.
Is firefox package supposed to edit the /etc/profile to add this variable? Obviously setting the variable here is the solution, just curious now as to why it was a problem to begin with.
Thanks for pointing me the right direction there wonder. -
[Solved] How does Clementine Jamendo plugin work?
I fear this might be a silly question, but anyway, how should I use the Clementine Jamendo plugin?
When I click on the plugin in the "Internet" tab a pop up shows up asking to download a database of approx 150MB.
After clicking "Yes" the download takes place and when it finishes 5 "smart plyalists" are added under the plugin icon.
If I click on a playlist a a pop up shows up for some seconds (it says something about a dynamic mode) and then nothing else happens.
What am I doing wrong/should I do to use the plugin?
I'm using Clementine on top of a KDE desktop (4.13), everything is updated.
Last edited by Box0 (2014-05-17 15:52:52)Nevermind, found out it's a bug in Clementine caused by an API change in Jamendo. I just filed an upstream bug to let the devs know: https://github.com/clementine-player/Cl … ssues/4351

[SOLVED] Openjdk installed, but no plugin for Firefox
Hello,
I installed openjdk using:
pacman -S openjdk6
but I don't see any plugin installed in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugin.
[root@univers ~]# ls -l /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
total 10360
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10606256 21 fév 22:00 libflashplayer.so
Also, the about:plugins shows only flashplayer, which works fine.
Any idea?
Thank you.

[SOLVED] Error building cairo-dock-plugin package
I have awn right now, but I hear cairo-dock is more customizable, yet that much harder to set up and it shows. when I yaourt-S cairo-dock it gets all the dependants such as cairo-wglitz, then I yaourt -S cairo-dock-plugins and it gets to building then I get this:
==> cairo-dock-plugins dependencies:
- cairo-dock (package that provides cairo-dock already installed)
- libxxf86vm (already installed)
- vte (already installed)
- alsa-lib (already installed)
- autoconf (already installed)
- automake (already installed)
- intltool (already installed)
- pkgconfig (already installed)
- libtool (already installed)
- perlxml (already installed)
just to prove I have everything. Yaourt goes into building and I end up with:
applet-mixer.c: In function 'mixer_show_hide_dialog':
applet-mixer.c:286: warning: passing argument 1 of 'cairo_dock_build_dialog' from incompatible pointer type
applet-mixer.c:286: error: too many arguments to function 'cairo_dock_build_dialog'

Something to do with 'too many arguments' for the 'cairo_dock_build_dialog' ?

So I can't figure out if I do or don't have cairo-dock haha, maybe that could be the problem?
[siegemachine@localhost /]$ yaourt -Ql cairo-dock

When I yaourt -S cairo-dock itself it seems to install that all just fine, but for some reason I apparently don't have it right after, any ideas? -
[SOLVED] No audio from Flash plugin
Hello,
I am having problems with the flash plugin as I get no audio when watching youtube videos. I configured the .asound profile to default to my HDMI output and the sound is working with VLC, steam and all other apps but not just flash. It does not crash so I hope it is just a configuration issue. I can watch HTML5 videos so firefox is not the issue.
How can I get the flash plugin to work so I can hear it through my HDMI audio device?
Last edited by pez (2013-07-08 00:01:01)Eh, just for reference, alsa is a built-in kernel-module in default Arch Linux. There's no need to install any packages, although an audio mixer is generally nice. Even using something like OSS4, you still have ALSA, it's just disabled.
Also, if you're using systemd, you don't need to add yourself to certain groups. (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … nformation)
Also, pulseaudio will not work without something like ALSA or OSS4 to rely on. You can't have pulseaudio without a backend.

[SOLVED] Rhythmbox: Unable to activate plugin Audio CD Recorder
Hi,
I'm trying to use Rhythmbox on my EeePC. The laptop not surprisingly does not have an optical drive. When I'm starting Rythmbox, I always get an error:
Plugin Error: Unable to activate plugin Audio CD Recorder
I tried the obvious: check the Edit/Plugins tab, but couldn't see any Audio CD Recorder plugin at all... Does anyone have a hint how to get rid of this message? It's pretty annoying every time when I start the program.
Cheers!
Last edited by imrehg (2009-05-11 03:25:58)Asked the gnome guys about it in this bug report, but they tell me that even if the Audio CD Recorder is a plugin is a plugin, it is not, so it's not listed in the plugin list because no sane person would want to turn it off, but if I want to turn it off I should use gconf.....
Is it just me, or does it really not make sense not to be able to turn off a plugin?
Okay, that might be a philosophical question (and I almost started to like gnome, but not very sure anymore), from the practical side there are other issues...
I poked around a little bit, and the problem is that the cd-burner plugin is compiled with brasero dependency, but i don't have brasero. It is listed as an optional dependency, but if I don't install it (on the Eee every MB counts...) then there's this error every single time. In the bug-report they say that i can turn it off somehow with gconf, but being an XFCE user, I'm not sure about that, and it seems I have to install some extra software for that as well...
So what would be possible solution:
1) recompile package every time for myself from ABS
2) install brasero and live with it
3) try to figure out gconf under xfce
4) figure out how to package rhythmbox differently, seprating core and plugins so that there are no broken dependencies...
Personally: 2 and 3 are very much "do not want". The 1 - if have to then it will happen. The best would be 4, though at the moment I don't have a good idea how should that one work, not to break other people's system... But it seems I'm not the only one with this problem either, so fixing this would make sense.... -
[SOLVED] Epiphany web pages as applications
One of the new features of Epiphany in Gnome 3.2 is that you can save web pages as native applications, so that they can be accessed by the general search. But I coudn't find anywhere how can I "unsave" or delete these applications. Does someone know how to do that?
