Solved error 1602

I was surprised to get error 1602 when upgrading an iPhone from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4.
This did not happen on my or my wife's phone, but it did happen on both of my kids phones.
After reading bizarre solutions used by other users, I decided to solve it.
The solutions seams to be - making an user account on your Mac for each iPhone user, logging in to that user and doing an update.

I recently had the oportunity to update 4 iPhones here in our office. Two updated fine but two failed. The two that updated fine were plugged directly into the pc (desktops)and used the orginal dock that came with the iPhone. The two that failed were laptops that were on docking units and the usb connection was on the docking unit. After connectiong the cable direcly to the usb port on the labtop (bypassed the Docking unit), I was able to restore and to update without any problems. Also, one of the laptops had a third party iPhone dock, that would accomodate a case on the iPhone. That third party dock was also bypassed and the cable connected directly to the laptop from the iPhone. All worked fine by doing this.
I would suggest that to update, that you connect directly to the usb port that is on the pc/laptop and directly to the iphone (either the cable or supplied dock). The third party stuff worked great on syncing, etc., but could have been the problem with updates.

  • SOLVED - iPhone Bricked by Update Device Driver Not Installed Error 1602

    iPhone 4 / Windows 7 x64 / iTunes 9.2.1.5
My iPhone normally interfaces with iTunes on my PC via USB cable without issues.
iTunes prompts to update the iPhone when a new version of iOS is released. Each time, the update has failed as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275.
The update process stops, the "Connect to iTunes" screen is all that displays on the phone, and an utterly informative alert message comes up in iTunes along the lines of "Error 1602 (or 1604), The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred." Along with this, the iPhone ceases to be recognized as a USB device by Windows 7, with a little notification tray pop-up informing me that "Device Driver Software was not successfully installed". The iPhone no longer shows up as a device in iTunes.
The generic troubleshooting steps listed at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275 (changing USB ports, changing USB cables, restarting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple software, etc., etc.) were a useless waste of time, but following the links for USB troubleshooting led to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
As instructed there, I located the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver in Device Manager. It appeared listed as "Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB driver" with a yellow exclamation point; thus I attempted to reinstall the Apple Mobile Device driver. First I uninstalled the existing driver, then scanned for hardware changes, then tried to update the driver as described. However, the path where the driver files were supposed to be (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Driver) did not exist; the Driver folder was missing.
After Googling a little I came across http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1949672 and http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10806341. Following the instructions there, I was able to pull the device drivers (usbaapl64.sys, usbaapl64.cat, usbaapl64.inf and usbaplrc.dll) out of the iTunes installation program (from AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi, using WinRAR / Universal Extractor), put them in the previously nonexistent Driver folder and make Windows use the drivers.
Happily, this manual driver reinstall allowed Windows / iTunes to recognize the iPhone and proceed with the update / restore process. I had to repeat the driver reinstall process a couple of times during the iPhone restore - as it progressed, it kept switching the driver back to something nonfunctional - but the restore eventually went through, allowing me to keep my apps, data, history, etc. At least, until the next iOS update.

  • Error:1602 , Adobe Acrobat Updater - Update Failed

My operating system is Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit
After installing Creative Suites 4 and downloading updates, I received an Acrobat Updater notification that Updates were available.
I clicked on the Adobe Acrobat Updater icon and ultimately got the following Error.
Adobe Acrobat Updater, Update Failed, Error:1602
This was solved by going to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Acrobat\9.2\ARM
I deleted the contents of the ARM folder and then ran "Check for Updates" from Adobe Acrobat. This re-populated the ARM folder with the correct folder and files. Updater ran and I followed the instructions to restart my computer and now it works well.

Ronald Segerstrom for questions regarding an Acrobat specific update please repost your inquiry to the Acrobat Windows forum.

  • Errors 1602 and 1604 trying to update from 1.1.4 to 2.0!!!

    Hi all.
So I have two iPod Touch devices in my home. I purchased and downloaded the 2.0 update this morning. It got halfway through the update and then died, leaving the iPod in recovery mode where the display shows the sync cable and the iTunes icon. At first it gave me the 1602 error, and every time I tried to Restore it, iTunes would think about it for several minutes and eventually give me a 1604 error.
After two hours on the phone with Apple support, I got it to work by plugging the iPod into a different USB port on my computer.
Updating the second iPod had similar difficulties, except I couldn't fix it by switching USB ports. Another call to Apple, and again no real solution. They had me go to another PC and try restoring and iTunes then downloaded the 1.1.4 firmware and installed it, although my iPod was now wiped.
I tried the 2.0 update on the new computer and now I'm right back to the 1604 error.
What the heck is going on?!? Two different computers and I can't update this thing.
It is NOT jailbroken or in any way modded - it was purchased brand new from Best Buy and has been treated like a baby its entire life.
I am desperate, frustrated, and exasperated.
Anyone, please, pretty please, oh please . . . can you help me?
    Paul

Hello all, I have the same problem. It is very frustrating. I have a single iPod Touch and two USB ports. The following steps have been taken, starting with my OOTB 1.1.4 iPod Touch running Windows XP:
    1. Upgrade iTunes to 7.7, purchase version 2.0 of software for $10 and attempt to install via iTunes - failed with Error 1602
    2. Exited recovery mode (this process has to be completed after each failed attempt as otherwise I am stuck with the USB cable / connect to iTunes image on the Touch's screen), attempted to perform restore via iTunes, selecting 2.0 software as source - failed
    3. Kicked out of recovery mode, attempted restore, selecting 1.1.4 software as source - failed
    4. Uninstalled iTunes / Quicktime / Apple Mobile Device Support / Apple Software Updater as per WinXP instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US. Repeated attempts above - failed
    5. DID NOT kick out of recovery mode, closed iTunes, started iTunes again. Prompted with "Detected an iPod in recovery mode, must be restored before use" - clicked restore, selected 2.0 as source - failed
    6. DID NOT kick out of recovery mode, closed iTunes, started iTunes again. Prompted with "Detected an iPod in recovery mode, must be restored before use" - clicked restore, selected 1.1.4 as source - failed
    7. Did several of the above steps with nothing else connected to USB ports, and switching up the USB ports - failed
I seem to have exhausted all tips I have found online through Google and various forums, including the ridiculous instructions from Apple to just remove all Apple software and reinstall. What a waste of time. Anyway, the ONLY tip I have not attempted is to perform a restore / upgrade on a second computer - I don't have access to one at the moment and would like to solve this another way.
I am definitely open to more suggestions as I would really like to get 2.0 up and running. I mean - I paid for it and this Touch is only about 3 weeks old!

  • I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, got error 1602

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on?  Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

  • IOS 4.3.5 update failed (persistent error 1602) - Apple's Support steps don't work

    Hi guys,
So I seem to be having very bad luck with my iPod Touch, 4th Gen. What happened this time is pretty much what happened when I tried to update to 4.3.4, as described in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3179905
So I got an error 1602 this time, I followed all the steps you find in the apple support page (ie, unninstalling and reinstalling everything in a particular order), only to have my iPod bricked once again. The computer doesn't recognize it at all, iTunes doesn't either. Entering DFU mode does nothing.
Last time, the solution was to connect my iPod to a friend's computer, and it restored it, then it worked again on my computer. But I'm not willing to keep asking that friend to use her computer just to restore my iPod after every iOS update, that's just unreasonable.
I'm hoping someone can help me find the better solution this time, so here are my logs:

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
