[SOLVED] Evince and thunar starting really slow
Thunar takes more than 30 secs to start regardless of folder that I am in. I've tried changing nsswitch.conf hosts:files dns myhostname to hosts: files wins dns myhostname and changing automount to false. I've also tried starting thunar --daemon, then first time is slow and second is as fast as it was before. Interesting to note is that when I do sudo thunar it starts like before, instantly.
Evince uses over 30 secs to start... seemingly regardless of the size and content of the file.
Any hints of what I should do next?
EDIT: And.... the problem is gone. The Heisenberg bug!!!

I have iPhone 4 and phone lately unresponsive, you press application and takes a vile to open and typing is really slow and logy. Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi my name is Timothy and I have had my iPod Touch 4th Generation 32 GB for about 8 months and when I got it, it was fast but now i updated it to 6.1.6 and it goes really slow i have only used 6.8 GB of space on it and there is 21.7 GB left on it.
Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.

Hi There, I have just started using ps and lr today after downloading it. It is going really slow and taking a long to do one thing.
I us a Mac and I keep getting the spinning rainbow ball. I also had an error come up saying 3D features require a minimum of 512mb of vRAM. PS has detected less than that on your system. Updating the diver of your graphics card may resolve the issue. ...
Then it sends me a link to adobe..
What does this mean? Is this causing the slowness? I don't think I am using anything to do with 3D..

Lost audio and startup is really slow.
Hi! I installed the latest upgrades and the restart was really slow. I shut down for a few hours and the start up time is a bit better, however I no longer have audio. Everything else seems to be working fine. I'm using a 2008 Black MacBook. Any ideas on what's wrong and how I can fix it?

JenHmm it seems my internal speakers are no longer in the sound pane. Just something called "soundflower" which has no output controls. Am I going to need to do a reinstall? I hope not

As soon as I click on Google taskbar (without even typing in anything) the CPU usage jumps to 100% and STAYS at 100 %, and computer extremely slow.

MacBook Pro can't recognize battery, fan is at high speed and computer functions really slow
My MacBook Pro suddenly won't recognize it's battery so I tried rmoving it's battery and put it back again. I can use it but there is still an (X) sign instead of the battery percentage on the upper right corner of my desktop. After this I turned on my laptop and all of a sudden the fan turned on on high speed and it became slow (by slow I mean really slow) even if I don't open/use anything on my computer because of this I went to an Apple Service Center and they tried to check if its because of the hard drive, RAM and all that stuff. They told me it's not because of those things but they also told me that maybe the wiring or the cable of the battery that connects to the computer is not working so I have to replace it. But for the fan and the slowing of my computer they don't know what's happening.

S10e and GRUB starting so slow
Hi there,
im using an ideapad S10e (NS846GE) with 4GB onboard-SSD and 64GB S-ATA 2 SSD. After installing openSuSE 11.1 i recognized, that there's an annoying delay after bios-splash-screen disappears until GRUB-boot-menu appears (around 45 second, longer than openSuSE needs to boot).
Same OS used with a X200s shows normal behaviour - nearly no noticable delay.
I installed GRUB to MBR of the internal SSD as well as to the MBR of the 2,5" - SSD - no difference.
It's the second strange behaviour with linux - maybe it has something to do with this topic (> AHCI-Mode ?). Is someone out there, using GRUB with an ideapad S10e (with or without internal SSD) recognizing the delay ?
How to prevent this ?

X200tsame thing here. insanely slow at start.sometimes it shows last song played on desktop, but when i hit play it plays the last song i was listening on mobile version, showing the name of the desktop's last song. edit: Macbook Pro '13 early 2011Intel Core i7 2.7 GHZ8 gb ddr3

I assume you are trying to download from the Mac App Store? In the Applications folder open Launchpad - is it showing there with any indication of activity? You can stop the download from there and start over if you wish. Some users have found that logging out of the App Store and then back in has helped. It is a 5gb+ download so depending on the speed of your internet connection it could take a long time. A friend of mine updated and the download took FIFTEEN HOURS - yikes!

[SOLVED] Evince and printing certain PDFs
Hi,
I'm trying to print PDF files from Evince to my new PostScript printer (OKI C531dn with OKI PPD file). Basically, it works until a national character like an Umlaut is encountered. Then the printer stops and just says "invalidfont".
It seems to be a similar problem as described in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=148446 and some of the workarounds seem to do the trick.
If i convert to ps first and print the same file in Evince, it's correct
pdftops file.pdf file.ps
I tried setting the CUPS option
pdftops-default-renderer=pdftops
but then my printer just prints nothing while CUPS says it prints correctly.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I just noticed the following error message in the CUPS error_log when using Ghostscript as filter:
The font 'CairoFont-0-0' misses the glyph 'dieresis'
What can I do?
EDIT2: I just tried with zathura: Using the poppler pdf plugin, the same results as above occur, even when just previewing. However, with the zathura mupdf plugin, the problem is gone and the page previews and prints fine. Using Adobe Reader, it prints fine as well.

As Infinality-bundle includes a patched Cairo, together with the Cairo error messages from Ghostscript, I suspect this to be the solution. -
Garageband error messages and it's really slow
When I try to open Garageband I get the message:
"GarageBand has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers."
Then I click OK a couple of times and it opens but it's super slow. This is only been since I upgraded to iLife'09. It worked fine before. PLEASE HELP!what audio interface and MIDI keyboards and/or Controllers are connected or have been connected to your Mac?

[SOLVED] Pcmanfm and Thunar do not show pen drives after udev upgrade
Hi all,
I upgraded Arch today and found that my usb pen drive was not showing up in Pcmanfm available for me to mount. I reinstalled Thunar from my cache and found it too could not 'see' the pen drive. I first tried downgrading hal to the previous version, and that did not fix anything.
I then downgraded udev to the previous version and found the usb drive correctly appearing in both file managers.
I checked /var/log/daemon.log and found no errors. There was nothing to indicate anything had been mounted before I had downgraded udev.
Please advise me on anything I should do--is this a bug, should I investigate further, or have I forgotten to configure something new?

added: I checked bug tracker and there seems to be a new bug related to mounting of an NTFS drive possibly due to udev. This is a FAT32 pen drive, so I am not sure if it is applicable...

No, if it's disabled it's too late, you will need to reset it back to factory defaults : Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support.
