It's okay, I figured it out.  I was following this guide, in the hope it would eliminate the need for me to understand how exim configuration hangs together (I'm used to the simpler Debian exim4 template configuration).  However, it seems after reading the configuration file and noticing the configuration sections, I merely placed the gmail_relay in the wrong section.  Moving into the correct section has solved the problem.

  • [solved] cpanp wrongly complains about missing ExtUtils::MakeMaker

(This appears to be the most suited subforum for the following matter. Please excuse and correct me if I am wrong.)
As there is no AUR package for the CPAN module Image::Magick, which I need, I am trying to install it with cpanplus and cpanplus-dist-arch (and yes, I ran setupdistarch). Unsuccessfully, though:
    $ sudo cpanp i Image::Magick
    Installing Image::Magick (6.72)
    Running [/usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/core_perl/cpanp-run-perl /root/.cpanplus/5.14.2/build/PerlMagick-6.72/Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=site]...
    Writing Makefile for Image::Magick
    Writing MYMETA.yml and MYMETA.json
[MSG] Module 'Image::Magick' depends on 'ExtUtils::MakeMaker', may need to build a 'CPANPLUS::Dist::Arch' package for it as well
[ERROR] Use of uninitialized value $pkgver in substitution (s///) at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/CPANPLUS/Dist/Arch.pm line 1591.
So cpanp complains about ExtUtils::MakeMaker not being installed, which is wrong:
    $ pacman -Qs makemaker
    local/perl 5.14.2-2 (base)
A highly capable, feature-rich programming language
    local/perl-extutils-makemaker 6.59-1
    Create a module Makefile
Re-installing ExtUtils-MakeMaker with cpanp does not help. Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it? (Also I am open to suggestions for other means of installing CPAN modules.)
    EDIT:
Just retried with latest git version of cpanplus-dist-arch. No change.
Last edited by Franek (2011-10-23 21:16:06)

Long story short is that Image::Magick is bundled with ImageMagick! Install the imagemagick package and you should be just fine. The PerlMagick distribution which contains the Image::Magick module on CPAN is simply a copy of what comes with ImageMagick.
The warning about ExtUtils::MakeMaker is just something that cpanp does for every dependency of a module that you build. It is very annoying and other than convincing the CPANPLUS maintainer to remove it, there is nothing I can do about it. But it is a warning and not an error. I've just gotten used to it I suppose.
The error about an uninitialized value which stops things for you is a bug. I'll try to figure out why it happens and fix it. Thanks for reporting it. I am having a tough time reproducing it, though. Which version of pacman are you using?

  • Portege Z830: Can't install Win7, complains about missing CD/DVD driver

    Hi!
I have a brand new Portege Z830 and as usual wanted to start with installing a new installation of Windows 7 x64 (as I don't want the supplied software and can't trust that it is safe anyway). I backed up the entire drive, prepared a bootable USB flashdisk with Windows installation and started it. The flashdisk boots OK, Windows ask me about my preferred language and keyboard, then shows a screen where I can choose between Install, Repair and something else (Recovery Console, I think).
I click Install, Windows starts the installation program aand as soon as a first dialog appears, it shows an error message which says essentially this (it's a translation of my localized Windows' message): "A required driver for CD/DVD drive is missing. If you use a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or flashdisk, insert it now." And I can't get over this error message. The strange thing is, there is no reason for Windows to require any extra drivers, as it can (apparently) read the installation flashdisk and it can see the ultrabook's SSD, too (can be verified both in the recovery console and by clicking the Browse button of this dialog). So far I tried:
    1) Four different Windows 7 images (two of them from MSDN AA, two physical, all of which have been successfully used to install the OS before).
    2) Switch SATA mode from AHCI to Compatible.
    3) Two different flashdisks.
    4) All possible combinations of boot order.
Nothing worked. I even tried e-mailing Toshiba, but all messages come back with "user unknown" (understandable, I had to guess the addresses since Toshiba doesn't seem to provide any official way to contact them - or is hiding it so well I couldn't find it). Does anyone have any idea what I could try next? I rather like the Z830 and would love to use it, but the ability to install my own installation of the OS is essential for me.
    Thanks, Pepak

    > I even tried e-mailing Toshiba...
Maybe stupid question now but have you tried to contact Microsoft too? If BIOS is OK and if all USB ports are working properly I dont think it is Toshiba related issue. Toshiba offers notebook with original recovery image (WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM) and possibility to create bootable USB with recovery image that can be used anytime you want.
What you do now is your own OS installation. What Toshiba must do is to offer all important drivers, tools and utilities on drivers download page.
What else you can try? Try to obtain external USB ODD and try to install WIN7 using Microsoft installation disc. Im pretty sure this will work.

  • Ai-recovery complains about 2 hard drives

I bought a notebook that has 2 hard drives. It came with windows 7 premium installed. The first disk contained 2 partions and the 2nd had one partion formatted as ntfs. I burned the recovery disks then replaced windows with linux. Now, I want to restore windows. But, when I run the recovery disk it complains:
"The recovery process has detected more than one hard drive. To ensure the accuracy of the recovery, please remove additional hard drives and keep only one in the system, then run the recovery process again. The system will now power off."
Should I do what it says, or is there a simpler solution? Is this normal?

About the advanced option. It doesn't get far enough to select any options. It displays the error message then shuts down when you click ok.
After deleting the partions using fdisk from a linux cd, I got the same error message. I then used a windows 7 dvd to run bootrec /fixmbr to replace grub on the master boot record. Still the same error message.
So, I think that means you have to do what it says. I did that, removed the 2nd hard drive and have restored the system and am now formatting the second hard drive.
So, buyers of asus laptops beware. If you have more than one hard drive, you will be asked to remove one to restore using it's recovery software, maybe.

"The document XXX.indd uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system."
This can be skipped on desktop InDesign but is there a way to skip this on InDesign Server? It is 64-bit Win InDesign CS6 Server.

Found out that you can do this in your desktop plugin (what writes the persistent data to the document) by setting missing plugin warning level to "IgnoreTags".

  • BUG: jspx editor complains about missing method from superclass of bck bean

    Hello,
I have found a bug that is more an annoyance than anything, but wanted to report the behavior. Here is the scenario:
    1). Create a bean (I'll call it the super_backing_bean)
2). Put an action listener in the bean (I'll call it al)
    3). Create a JSPX page
4). Create a backing bean for the jspx page (I'll call it page_backing_bean). Make page_backing_bean extend super_backing_bean.
5). Put a command button on the page. Bind it's actionlistener to #{page_backing_bean.al}. The pop-up properties editor allows you to do this nicely.
6). Open the jspx page in "source" view and look for the command button. There's a red squiggly under the actionListener property. If you hover over it, you get "The method al does not exist in the bean page_backing_bean"
Note this is merely an IDE bug. The code works as expected during run time.
    Kind regards,
    John

    Hi Harry (and others),
I have seen similar behavior. It seems like the client side rendering for some reason has a hard time processing the collection model wrapping the ArrayList in this particular case. The table renders empty. After sorting in ascending order, the rows are all back (visible) again.
Is anyone aware of issues with the rich table based directly on ArrayList (in combination with a changing set of values and/or sorting)? (seems like a corner case but is still not uncommon). Is there any indication that wrapping the ArrayList in a CollectionModel ourselves might be required?
Harry: do you know whether this issue is introduced with PS3 (11.1.1.4) or already existed in previous releases?
    kind regards,
    Lucas

To prevent others from reading your mail, don't give them access to your account. If others need to use your computer for some reason, set up personal accounts, or a guest account, and switch to it before allowing them access. This is the simplest, and most effective, method.
Email message files can be read as plain text in TextEdit or any word processor.
To protect your email messages from being viewed by others while in your account, you would have to lock the folder, putting it into an encrypted disk image that required a password to be opened and mounted. You would have to double-click on the image and give your password to mount it before launching Mail then unmount it as soon as you're done. My guess is that you could replace the ~/Library/Mail folder with an alias pointing to the folder on the disk image.
It may work, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary hassle.

  • Time machine eventually complains about a missing time capsule

In my environment I have the following scenario.
         - Several apple computers are running ML in my network. All of these mashines are configured to use time mashine to do backups to the same set of time capsules.
         - I do use 3 (three) time capsules for backup. One is always stationary, while the 2 others are exchanged in a fixed interval (a couple of weeks). One
time capsule is always at an external place. The plan is to have a a maximum data loss of a couple of weeks.
Everything is almost running fine. Every hour time mashine is doing backup up to a different disk. The missing time capsule is skipped. But over the sudden
sometimes a time mashine dialog appears, telling me that it could not backup for so many days because the backup disk is missing. The problem is,
there will be no further backup until this dialog is ackknowledged.
I have no idea what situation will trigger this event. I do fear that my unattended server will stop backing up and I do not realize it. Or is this triggered by
some application program which interacts with time mashine?
    Any comments are welcome.

You are right, it is good to have diversive backup strategies. I do have others as well - but this is a diffrent story.
I am wondering: am I the only one who uses multiple TC's with one TM?
It is normal bahaviour, that if one backup disk could not be found, TM will use next one. The question is, what
causes TM to complain about a missing disk and stating that there was no backup for say 10 days. The last
successful backup is one hour old. In 99,9% it is working as expected, but once and a while this behavior is showing up.
I am curious to find out if it is a bug in TM or some combination with other programs.

  • I will never complain about Creative products again...long story

Two days ago I was a winy little #$%&* complaining about what my Zen Touch didn't do. It didn't support Audible, it didn't support Janus, has few accessories, blah, blah, blah. Then, it didn't do anything...it broke. So, in my infinite wisdom, I decided that I would get a replacement. I had always looked for something a little smaller, a little sleeker, and not an iPod (that's another story altogether). I didn't go out and just grab what looked good on the shelf...no, I had my priorities. Battery life is important, almost more so than features. I looked up several candidates
    <BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr>
    Zen Touch - 40Gb - 24 hour battery
    Sony Network Walkman HD05 - 20Gb - 40 hour battery
    iRi'ver (insert model here) - 20Gb - 6 hour battery (or was it 2)
    Apple iPod Photo - 60Gb - 2 hour battery
    Zen XTra - 60Gb - I don't remember the battery life[/quote]
At the time, I didn't even consider a 5Gb player because I was distraught. I had just lost something that, until that morning, was just another thing that I took everywhere with me. I didn't realize the gaping hole that its loss would create.
After reading some reviews, I settled on the Sony player. It's small, it's slick, ZDNet gave it a sweet review with the only real bad points being the software (Sonic Stage) and the only available music service (Sony Connect) and it's got a 40 hour battery. I got this beautiful piece of audio hardware back to the office and quickly downloaded some tunes from EMusic (excellent bit rates...better than ANY download service period...if you like independent labels), loaded SonicStage and dumped the songs on the player. At first I thought, "SonicStage is a little slow...", but I had no idea what I was in for. I played the device and noticed...the sound...a little tinny. So what! I'll mess with the EQ later! I have a 40 hour removable battery! I also noted, that you can't build playlists on the fly. They had a "Bookmark" feature, but the only way to add songs to a bookmark was if the song was currently playing. I missed "Add to selected" but hell, it's got a 40 hour battery. I got the beast home, installed SonicStage on my PC and pointed it to my music library of some 5000 songs. SonicStage didn't like the fact that my library was on a network dri've (I have a Buffalo LinkStation that has nothing but media on it.) It began the import and after 2 hours of lots of blinking lights on my router asked me if I wanted to copy the files to my local hard disk. Of course not! That's what I bought the link station for! Creative doesn't have a problem with this! Why was Sony concerned? I told it "No!" After about another hour of activity, It showed me that it had begun importing the files. Four hours later it was done. Seven hours total to import my files? No problem, I have a 40 hour BATTERY! I then, sleepily as it was 2:30 in the morning, began to copy music to the device. Since I had also done this at work, the software said that I couldn't put any files from another computer onto the device. I had to delete the songs on the device and register my home computer. Fine, the songs are still in my library. I deleted the files, the hourglass appeared...and stayed... Thirty minutes later...the hourglass...what the #$%&! Now, I was told ahead of time that I would absolutely hate the software by a friend that owns a newer MiniDisc player. I have a faster computer than him so I thought it would be different: it wasn't. I have a great deal of tolerance for computers because I am a computer programmer and technician. I could not deal with this...this THING had to go.
Today, I returned the Sony THING and gave myself till lunch to think about buying a new player. I came to the following conclusion. My Zen Touch will get fixed. I will use my Zen Touch until it completely dies. I like Creative's Zen Explorer...it's small, fast, and integrated into Windows. I like being able to queue up exactly what I want to play on the fly. Sony's didn't offer any of that. The Zen Touch may be a little fat, a little old (technology ages quickly), but the Touch really does nearly everything I wanted and does it well. Sony didn't even come close...it was just a pretty face, a slim design, and a bad personality. From what I can tell, Sony designed it's software for smaller players and smaller libraries. To me it doesn't seem to keep in mind, that I may not want to play everything by one artist or genre. It doesn't allow me to play an album, queue up another, and another...it allows that functionality on the song level through it's bookmarks. From what I hear the iPod is similar, but since I have no experience with the iPod, I cannot comment (If it is I'll add that to my reasons not to buy an iPod).
At lunch, I returned to Fry's (my 4th time in 2 days) and went looking. I picked up a 5Gb iRi'ver, then a Rio Carbon. I stopped... I was doing it again. Creative players had been good to me... I didn't need another big player...just a small player I could use as a backup...the Touch would be fixed! I then picked up a Zen Micro and didn't turn back. Perhaps my comfort level with the Creative devices is just way to high. Perhaps the Sony software just shocked me. Whatever it was; unless I can see how a player works and how the software reacts, I think Creative will always get first consideration when choosing a new device.

You say that like it's a bad thing. One wonders why other MP3 player manufacturers haven't done the same thing in return to boost their own sales. There is no MP3 player to compete with the iPod on the Mac because it seems no other manufacturer is able to write compatible software or firmware. Gi'ven that the iPod started on the Mac and really started the MP3 player appeal for the masses, I find it staggering that no other MP3 player software developer even considered writing support for the Macintosh into their own software development plans.

You may not like the UI for iTunes, but hundreds of thousands of other people love it! I (personally) prefer WMP0, but iTunes is the only other MP3 player management software that even comes close to that. Mediasource is laughable next to iTunes. The iTunes UI may not be windows compliant, but that's hardly a failing. When I referred to compliancy, I mainly meant the firmware (such as UMS support) did not conform to any known standards which meant that the software developers for the management software faced the burden of making it compatible with other (non-Windows) platforms.
