[Solved] Eye of Gnome awful (broken?) interface after upgrade

Just today I've upgraded from eog 3.14.3 to eog 3.16.1 and am incredibly disappointed in the new interface I'm seeing, to the point where I expect something isn't working as it should.  (I've downgraded to 3.14 as a temporary solution).
Normally (3.14) I see this handy menu bar with buttons for options I use quite frequently, including rotate and zoom to 100%.  http://i.imgur.com/mLBxPX3.png
However, after upgrading, I get this crappy minimal interface with only an expandable zoom slider (which is unlabeled) and ever-present buttons obstructing the image.  I can find nothing in the settings relating to this bar. http://i.imgur.com/l01DRVE.png
Again in the newer version, the hoverable menu when in fullscreen mode does have all these original buttons, they're just not in the main windowed interface where I need them. http://i.imgur.com/xsnlUTW.png
This seems incredibly broken to me (I've always loved eog over all others for the interface), but I haven't been able to find any other complaints since the release of this new version.  Is this a new "feature" or have I just managed to make it broken on only my computer?

Eye of MATE is absolutely perfect. I didn't use any plugins so I'm fine without them, and the interface and functionality seem to be identical to eog pre-update.  Thanks very much!
Bevan, the icons were disappearing but the grey boxes under them were not.  I'm not really worried about that anymore now anyway.

  • I'm seeing a high runt count on my serial interfaces after upgrading to 12.

I'm seeing a high runt count on my serial interfaces after upgrading to 12.2(37).
I was looking for information on what changed in 12.2(37)and some more detailed information on runts.
I know that runts are smaller than the medium's minimum packet size. But I want more specific information and I can not find meaningfull information.
    Any Ideas

On a serial interface I would contribute the runts to a timing problem which is not an easy problem to isolate esp. with a telco. Even though there may be no CRC or Frame errors.

  • [SOLVED] Broken setup after upgrading to 2.6.29

    I am running a x86_64 system.
I have been running kernel26-2.6.28.7-2 for a while now. Upgrade to kernel26-2.6.28.8-1 caused some problem for me so I installed the older version from /var/cache/pacman/pkg/. After upgrading day before yesterday to 2.6.29.1, I can boot and login to the system but pretty much nothing works. The obvious problem that I can find out is that everyting is trying to load modules from 2.6.28-ARCH. After logging in even 'uname -r' reports 2.6.28-ARCH. I do have the /lib/modules/2.6.29-ARCH folder with all the modules.
Any help will be much appreciated. I can provide further information if required. Thank you.

I was able to solve it. The problem was I was using grub installed from Ubuntu. So, there was some problem loading the kernel. Installing grub from arch fixed it. Thanks.

  • Broken Links after upgrade

Hi, after upgrading to the latest muse, adding a page and a few scrolling effects, 2 items on the menu no longer work for some reason. Both menu items have drop down menus, 'Portfolio' and 'contact', I have published the changes thinking that maybe they would do as they should, but did not work. The site is www.meamdesign.com.au Thanks for any help
I have been checking and double checking, moved the new page from the dropdown, this is now viewable, and the link within to the contact page works okay. Everything looks okay (see the screen shot)
I guess the question is, is there a bug int the upgrade?

    Hi,
The container frame of the yellow scrolling image on the right is covering half of the menu. If you noticed, half of the "Invitation" menu item is un-clickable as well.
    Regards,
    Aish

  • [SOLVED] No networking interfaces after upgrade

After a recent upgrade on Thursday, I no longer have any networking devices recognised. I'm running a macbook air 2011 and have had no networking problems since my change to the 'broadcom-wl' drivers from the AUR three weeks ago. After rebooting from the upgrades, wifi-menu gave me an error saying "Invalid interface specification". and when i do specify wlp2s0, "no such interface"
    iwconfig gives me
    lo no wireless extensions
and that's it. I'm pretty sure there used to be wlp2s0 there.
Thanks in advance for your help and let me know if you need more info/outputs. (this may take a while because I need to boot in that partition and copy paste the outputs on a usb, etc.

  • [Solved] xorg server & keyboard conf error messages after upgrade

I ran my daily upgrade (today was big, from FF to the kernel to xorg) and I was not able to login on GDM afterwards.
It's weird. The X server will start, and so will the GDM login screen. But entering the password will result in a GDM crash (I later found out that KDM and SLIM have the same issue; KDM not starting and SLIM refusing the keyboard input). So after starting an alternate console and trying to start x (startx), I have this error message:
"Th e XKEYBOARDMAP keymap compiler (xbcomp) reports:
Error: Cannot close "/tmp/server-0.xkm" properly (not enough space?)
              Output file "/tmp/server-0.xkm" removed
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
    XKB: Failed to compile keymap
Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config.
    Fatal server error:
Failed to activate core devices "
I have been fiddling with the keyboard config on xorg.conf but I'm not sure I'm getting anywhere. Also, I downgraded the xorg-server and xkeyboard config packages just to be sure.
    Any clue?
    Thanks!

Well... seems I didn't have any answer on this. I fiddled a bit more but I have to say that I really came to wits' end at this stage. A couple of observations though:
    * I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
    * I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.
    Thanks!

Flash is enabled in Chrome.  Are any of these packages known to break Flash support?
Is there any way I can bulk roll back upgrades to figure out which one might have broken it?

It wouldn't render any Flash videos at all.  I uninstalled google-chrome and installed google-chrome-dev.  Everything works fine now.

  • [Solved] Some programs hang/don't work after upgrade

    Hi all,
I searched and read things but couldn't find anything on this.
About a week ago I ran pacman -Syu and afterwards some programs stopped working the way they should.
The two I have had the most problems with are thunar and clementine.
Thunar takes ages to load, but when it does load it's fine. Clementine will load really quickly, but then hangs when I try to play a song. It usually never actually gets round to playing a song.
Other programs also hang when I try to save a document/file. I think it's something to do with programs that access my various storage devices.
When I run thunar from the terminal or try to play a song in clementine when run from the terminal, I get the following message:
Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gtk.Private.UDisks2VolumeMonitor: Timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24)
Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this?
    Thanks for reading

The other problems are whenever a program tries to load a file browser. So for example in lowriter when I save a document for the first time it hangs for about 30 seconds before showing me the little file browser it uses to select a location to save the document. This happens for any similar function by a program (e.g. extracting files using file-roller, saving in inkscape, "save as" in firefox). However these programs' other features all work fine.
My storage devices are an internal hard drive (home partition), another internal hard drive (just storage), an internal ssd (boot and root), an external usb hard drive (just data storage) and a samba share on a raspberry pi elsewhere in my house. boot, root, home and samba are all mounted in fstab. Looking at it now though, it seems the samba drive is not being mounted and the internal storage drive is not visible in thunar. I just ran "sudo mount -a" and it's sat there not visibly doing anything, been like that for a few minutes now.
The terminal output in the original post is the error message for both clementine and thunar. Only the program encountering the error hangs, the rest of the system works fine. Once thunar has loaded, it responds quickly and normally. When I open a terminal to access drives through the command line, nothing hangs at all, so it seems to only affect gui file browsing.
I hope that answers your questions and provides the information needed, thanks again for responding, I really appreciate the help
edit: I needed to access a file on the raspberry pi, obviously the samba was inaccessible via my main machine so I plugged the pi into a monitor to access the file directly - it was having a kernel panic. I powered off the pi, uncommented it from my fstab and now everything works fine (except my pi installation). I had no idea an error on a samba share on a different machine could have such an impact on my desktop. Marking this thread as solved.

  • [SOLVED] kwin crash when using OpenGL mode after upgrading to 4.7

I have a Ideapad Y460 (Graphic: ATi Mobility Radeon 5650). Recent days I upgrade my KDE from 4.7RC (4.6.95) to 4.7 (4.7.00) and also Catalyst from 11.6 to 11.7.
    Update:
The problem has been solved. I used [kde-unsupported] source and kdebase-workspace package in that source contains OpenGL ES support while Catalyst doesn't support it. Thank @csslayer.
But when I use OpenGL mode, kwin crashed. I run
    kwin --replace
to start kwin, then the Desktop Effect shows:
OpenGL compositing (the default) has crashed KWin in the past.
This was most likely due to a driver bug.
If you think that you have meanwhile upgraded to a stable driver,
you can reset this protection but be aware that this might result in an immediate crash!
Alternatively, you might want to use the XRender backend instead.
And there is a re-enable button. But the systemsettings window crashed when I pushed it.
I checked ~/.xsessiong-error and it shows this:
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
    Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty)
    Resource id: 0x1c0015a
I downgrade Catalyst but the problem still exists while KDE4.7 RC run well on my laptop. So I'm not sure whether it is caused by kwin or by Catalyst 11.7 or other packages.
Does anyone know the solution? Thanks for your patience.

I found an solution. Go to Settings/Mail, Contact, Calendar/Fetch new data and than enable Push and choose to fetch hourly or every 30 minutes. In this case your iPad will stay connected to wifi even when smart cover is closed. If you select Manualy than wifi connection will be terminated when in sleep mode.

  • [solved] Language input is limited to English after upgrade

After the last upgrade of my system, my Malayalam language Keyboard is not functioning. No problem with Malayalam display though.
OS: Arch linux, Desktop environment: KDEmod 4.3.2
I checked System settings > Regional and Language > Keyboard layout. Here is the error message displayed:
Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_keyboard_layout.so: (libxklavier.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
        Possible reasons:
An error occured during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
You have old third party modules lying around
Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager.
Now the problem is that, as my /var partition was filled, I had cleared the pacman cache yesterday and so downgrade is not possible.
Also, Country Flag is not visible anymore.
UDev uevent takes more time during booting. Padlock not detected.  (Don't know the implications of these two)

Found a work around from Chakra project forum. View Topic
user Alejandro Nova gave the reply. Copy pasting it here:
    The quick and dirty:
    # ln -s /usr/lib/libxklavier.so.15 /usr/lib/libxklavier.so.12
    works wonders here.

  • Awful download speeds after upgrade to OS X Lion

    Good evening all Mac-users!
I have searched the forum for an answer but as far as I can see the only problem that's in common with mine occurs on iPad's. However, I have a MacBook that I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion, everything works fine except one thing, the download speeds.
After the installation of Lion my download speeds (from everything, torrents, ipsw's, music etc) is around 1/50 of it's original speed. It's not the network cause other computers that's connected to the same network works without problem.
What could it be? Does Lion have a firewall or something that block the downloads?
    Thank you in advance everyone!

Sorry about that. I misunderstood the notation "~/Library" to mean the Library at the root of the hard drive. There is indeed an iWeb Domain in "Users/Trixi/Library/Application Support/iWeb". The iWeb Domain appears to be intact being 175MB. It shows a status of Last Opened/Modified: Today @ 10:47 which is when all this started.
However, nothing else had changed from my original post - iWeb did not function. All its menu choices were greyed out. When I selected "Hide Others" all open windows disappeared and iWeb was active but with no window at all.
As you pointed out, I was misreading folder locations. So, while writing this reply, I thought I'd double check another action I'd tried. It was posted by kt4ever under "iWeb and Lion problems" here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3233238
and - it worked! My Domain is back, just as I'd left it. I only performed the following subset though:
Go to Users/home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist and drag file to trash.
    Also delete com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile.
    Empty trash.
    Open iweb.

  • Gnome-window-decorator missing after upgrade

Last night I did a pacman -Syu from a archlinux cd installation, this fixed many many problems, but broke compiz-git, which I like so much.
Now when I run startxgl script, I get no window decoration in gnome, and gnome-window-decorator, the binary, is missing.
This makes me remember when we changed from gwd to cgwd, which, I think sucks.
Is there a way to fix this? I want my window decorations back
any help would be very appreciated

thanks for your reply twistedkaos, but I dont want to use cgwd, I want to use compiz-git
I tried copying my gnome-window-decorator binary from /bin from ubuntu dapper to /bin of archlinux, guess what? it worked perfectly. I just had to put "--replace" to the last gnome-window-decorator call of startxgl (the one that calls gnome-session).
Well, not so perfect so far, gnome hangs at startup loading gnome-wm or something like that (I can see it sessions > running) but if I click on "remove" and "apply", it reloads and everything works well (still no good log out, I have to kill my X)
Now it is not working because I messed up my session gnome config which I dont know how to clean back, but, its there, its not difficult, and its probably not the cleanest way to do it
I will upload the gwd binary somewhere so you guys can use it too
    here it is : http://webrepository.unlugar.com/arch/g … -decorator

  • Interface after upgrade too big

    Hello everybody,
I upgraded my S8-50f yesterday to the newest version (S000214-150629_ROW).
Since then the interface of my tablet appears to be way bigger what limits my visible space.
Unfortunately I haven't found any option to change this in the settings. Changing the font size didn't show the wanted effect.
I'd like to know whether this is intended to be like this or I'm just too stupid to find the proper setting for this. Although not a huge problem, for me it's less comfortable to use the device like this and would be really happy if somebody could help me.

If you are running Windows, press ALT+SPACE to get the system menu that allows you to restore, move, resize, minimize, maximize your window. One of these might help.

    Apologies for the double post,
removing xfwm4-tiling   and  xfwm4 --replace  have fixed the issue
    Thanks.

    I have the same problem
I removed xfwm4-tiling and yes it appeared to fix the problem.
Just to make sure I rebooted and the problem is back.
    Any other suggestions ?

Check again which version of xfwm4 you have installed (e.g. xfwm4 -V; pacman -Qi xfwm4; etc), and make sure to upgrade to the latest.
    well, i found that i had installed xfwm4-tiling 4.8.3-1 ... i removed that and i install xfwm4 4.10.0-1 and solved problem!!!
    thanks for the help!!!

  • Phonebooks disappeared from scheduling interface after upgrading to TMS 14.5

Upgraded to TMS 14.5 this morning and now finding, to my great dismay - that none of my phone books are available in the drop-down menu in the Add Participants pop-up window - see attached screenshots.
All phone books are otherwise showing up correctly on the end-points, so I know they are still there...
These are the phone books, which were all correctly listed in the drop-down menu in all other versions of TMS:
This is what I now get:
Anybody else having this issue? If I can't resolve it, then I've got no choice but to downgrade to 14.4 :( (Lucky it's a VM so it's only a matter of applying the last snapshot).
Edit: I've managed to create a work-around by connecting all the phone book sources to the "All Systems: phone book, which means the support staff will at least be able to find the entries as long as they have an idea of what to search for. Far from ideal though. :(

Don't know what that could be since I'm the one who "sets the settings" so to speak, and everything worked perfectly prior to the upgrade. Applied a stack of "important" server updates from Microsoft just before upgrading TMS, wonder if something went astray there, but why would that only affect the phone books - that doesn't really make sense either. And remember, I can see all the phone books everywhere else, it's just in that drop-down menu they're MIA.
Only explanation I think of would be that one of the services didn't start properly, didn't have time to do much troubleshooting unfortunately, and won't be able to try again until the semester is over in another 6 weeks.
