[SOLVED] Firefox: failed to contact configuration server.
When I start firefox, the full error message is:

I don't have dbus or hal running, as I have disabled input-hotplugging. Is there any way to fix this?
Also, before I start firefox, I have 0 dbus processes running, and after it gives me that error message, I get:
pgrep dbus | wc -l
381
I have switched to chrome which doesn't seem to have any troubles. I would really like to have firefox though.
NVM: I went through the config options for firefox, and --disable-dbus exists

I'm not entirely sure, but here is what I would do:
1. Create a new user account and try to start firefox as that user.
2. are hal / dbus running (check with ps -ef |grep hal)
3. If 1. works and hal/dbus are running, log out and remove everything under /tmp owned by you , plus .dbus/session_bus/*.

Firefox fails to open locan server based intranet files
We run an intranet from a local server. Hyperlinks such as this work fine with IE and Chrome, eg file:\\server2\intranet\process_instructions.htm but Firefox changes them to this example which then fails to find the file. file:\\\intranet\process_instructions.htm If I go to File Open the actual file, it opens perfectly.
== URL of affected sites ==
http://This worked for me!
-Install''' NoScript addon''' for FireFox
-'''Tools '''-> '''Addons '''-> '''NoScript '''(General tab, at bottom check '''Scripts Globally Allowed''') - this is so scripts on other sites are not blocked.
- In same window -> '''Advanced tab''' -> '''Trusted tab''' -> Check box:: '''Allow local links'''
- In same window -> '''whitelist tab''' -> paste in '''http://yourwebsite.com''' to '''address of website''' -> '''click allow'''
Bit of an odd work around I know. But I had problems getting user_pref to work correctly. -
Details of problem: When I make changes on the selection page and submit it. The changes are ignored by the router. This is an issue with all firefox versions from about version 20. Other are also having this issue see question 958502.
using ubuntu 13.10 and firefox 25.0.1
however
it also fails using windows 7 and firefox 25
right now I have to use ie which means booting a virtual machine and going through the same steps except it actually works!Does the current Firefox 17.0.11 ESR version still work?
Any specific JavaScript errors in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+K) about this issue? -
Last week when the automated upgrade came I said yes and then stopped it midway as it was not a good time to reboot my laptop. Since then, when I try to open it says cannot read configuration file - even when I uninstall and reinstall - still cannot open it with the same error.
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
[Solved]Pacman fails to connect to server in Arch Virtual Machine
Hi
I've just installed arch 2008.06 in VMWare Workstation 6.04 on Vista Business x64. The setup all went fine and i am now logged into my system, but Pacman refuses to connect to anything. i have tried Bridged networking and NAT to no avail. whenever i run 'pacman -Syy' i get the message
"error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from ftp.archlinux.org : File unavailable (e.g.,file not found, no access)"
followed by the same message for each mirror in my mirrorlist, and then again for 'extra.db.tar.gz' and 'community.db.tar.gz', and then 'failed to synchronise any databases' at the end.
I have tried pinging google, as well as several of the arch mirrors and they all work fine. wget also seems to work fine, it's just pacman that's not working.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Last edited by henrypootel (2008-09-12 01:53:56)That's what i thought too so i switched off the Vista firewall and still no luck. I am behind a hardware firewall here at work, but it shouldn't be blocking FTP traffic. i use FTP in windows all the time.
Just tried downloading a file using wget and it worked fine.

Failed to get configuration from secure gateway. Contact your system administrator.
I have an ASA 5515 running 9.1(1).
One of my customers is attempting to connect with AnyConnect 3.1.02040 and after authenticating, he gets the message
Failed to get configuration from secure gateway. Contact your system administrator.
I have about 100 other customers who have not had this issue and can connect fine.
Since it appears to be localized to his PC, he's uninstalled and reinstall the client, but to no avail. He's using Windows 7 Pro.
On the ASA, while he is attempting to connect, I see this:

Any ideas?i had this problem. for me the cause had to do with internet explorer TLS settings.
in IE8 go to tools, internet options, advanced and under security I had to make sure Use TLS 1.0 was checked (only Use SSL 3.0 and Use TLS 1.1 were checked. I left them checked.). -
Sharepoint server 2013 configuration issue - failed to create configuration database
Hi All,
I have installed the SharePoint server 2013. After installing the SharePoint products, the configuration stops at failure of creating configuration database.
Some system configuration & info:
- 1 Domain controller server run Active Directory services on Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC1 with name DC.Brainfiniti.com)
- 1 Server which is used for installing Sharepoint server 2013 and MS SQL server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC2 with name App.Brainfiniti.com)
- All of PCs were satisfied the requirement of Sharepoint server 2013
- Firewall turned off & No antivirus tool was installed.
- During installing of Sharepoint, choose "Complete" option: Farm mode and use SQL Server instead of SQL Express.
- During configuration, created a new farm with a domain user account.
- Use domain account to log on and install, configure in Sharepoint & SQL server (PC2)
ATTEMPTS:
1. Tried install and set up all of steps with just 1 account - domain administrator.
2. Tried with separate domain account:
- SQL Service account use for:
+ Install SQL server 2008
+ Connect all SQL services
+ Admin for SQL server
- Setup account use for:
+ Member of local administrator group in PC2
+ Install Sharepoint
+ Run Configuration wizard
+ Was granted permission in SQL database: dbcreator, securityadmin, sysadmin and deselect serveradmin role.
+ Was choose for the database account in configuration database step
Also tried with SQL service account in this step.
3. Tried with Standalone mode for Sharepoint installing
4. Trie with domain name: Brainfiniti.local
5. Tried with some another solution from topic relate to database configuration in our community but not successful.
But all attempts are failed at this configuration database step :'(
Please correct me if I am going wrong by missing something or do I need to start/install some services.

Sorry! Cannot add screenshot because my account is still not verified. Will add later.

Weblogic 10.3.0.0 installer - Failed to contact Server
When clicking 'Next' on the 'Specify Download Options' portion of the wizard I get an error message "Failed to contact Server"
Anyone know why I recieved this message or how I can get around it?OK , I have checked the log files for the server - it says it is using NON-BLOCKING source file:/dev/urandom
Looks like this must have been sorted out in 10.3.5 as it recognizes the Linux System.
I have the same issue on all 6 of the servers I have installed - so this may be a different issue.
These are BL460c g6 HP blades in a c7000 chassis.
So now I am at a dead end.
The initial wait is still considerable, but we may have to live with this (Ubuntu Server 11.04 is still new and probably not supported well at this time)
The admin console works fine once it initially opens and is fast.
I tried the java command as well and got an error finding the main class in weblogic.wlst, (not the end of the world).
all in all though it looks impressive right now, aside from the minor admin stuff, my application runs fine (which is what counts in the end).
I will leave this open so that anyone else can view it and make suggestions. -
I got this problem when I tried to configure out-going email and add an account to farm administrator group.
I configure out-going email according to this website http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288949.aspx
Here are the screen shots.
The SMTP server and email accounts work out OK when I use Outlook 2010 to test.
Anyone can help me about it? Thanks.
Here is the log.

Anyone has any clue about this error?Hi.
This I have seen before...
It can be that the SMTP relay server is configured to only allow certain IP ranges or addresses.
It can be that the firewall on the SP server does not allow for SMTP traffic (normally 25, for example for Exchange).
It can be that there is an Antivirus on the SP server(Client AV) that prohobits the Timer service to send email from this server. I have seen MacAfee do this. Needed an policy change.
If, its the builtin SMTP service you are using, check this link:
http://blog.sharepointrx.com/2010/11/18/setting-up-the-iis-smtp-server-for-sending-email-from-sharepoint-2010-on-server-2008-r2/
Check that and try again.

I'm running OS X 10.9.2 on an iMac with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. All previous updates have downloaded and installed flawlessly, but every time it arrives -- and that's been several times so far -- this one has simply shown that blue-and-white striped busy bar, says it's contacting the server, and does nothing, no matter how long I leave it running.
That's weird but you should be able to manually install the update like this:
#Download a fresh copy from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ here] - direct link (https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-28.0-SSL&os=osx&lang=en-US)
#Install the new version. For details, see [[How to download and install Firefox on Mac]]
Usually this fixes this issue with automatic updates. There will be new version available starting next Tuesday. The automatic update will happen sometime over the following week or so.
Let me know how it goes.<br>
Thanks,<br>

I've looked and found many responses involving restoring from time machine to restore the complete server. In this case, I have a TM backup of the failed wiki machine and a second running (and configured) server. What I need to do is restore the wiki from this first TM backup to the "new" server.... but only the wiki data.
Currently, the "new" machine is NOT running wiki services at all.
Both machines were / are running Mountain Lion, so there should be no issues there.
I'm having some trouble locating a procedure for this. Any help is appreciated, and apologies in advance if I missed these instructions on some other post!
Thanks in advance for all the help!Does http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5082 help at all? You would have to restore your TM backup to a separate disk, use that to startup, dump the wiki and postgres data to disk, reboot using your new server disk and follow the instructions to copy all wiki data to the new server.
Cheers

I love iTap Mobile. Paid for the app. Sorry to see them discontinue it, but now I know why. Microsoft bought them out! But even though free, I am getting an error: RPC Error: Your connection was denied because of a Resource Access
Policy (TS_RAP). Please contact your server administrator. (2147965402). I worked with iTap to fix this so I guess they sold Microsoft their older buggy code... Microsoft, please fix!
PS: This is the Android version. Mac and iOS are both okay.
EDIT: After an update a few months ago, iOS is no longer working. Not sure if the problem is related to the Android MSRDP issue.
UPDATE - Relevant posts (need Android RDP software engineer to fix):
Event Viewer Log when using Android client:
The user
"DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", met connection authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to access the RD Gateway server. The following authentication method was used: "NTLM". (This
is most likely for logging into RD Web - icons shows up).
The
user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", did not meet resource authorization policy requirements and was therefore not authorized to resource"localhost".
The following error occurred: "23002". (This is after clicking on any
of the icons).
I
think the Android MS RDP client is providing the incorrect resource. It shouldn't be "localhost".
It should be the RD Connection Broker's hostname, I believe.
Here's what it should look like (connected using a Windows PC going
through the RD Web portal via Internet Explorer):
The user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", met connection
authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to access the RD Gateway server. The following authentication method was used: "NTLM".
The user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", met resource
authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to connect to resource "rdsfarm.domain.com".
The user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", connected
to resource "rdsfarm.domain.com".
Stephan,
Do you have any way to contact the software engineer who worked on the Android version of the RDP client? Please
have them read this thread. They need to fix the hard coded "localhost" resource to be a variable (namely whatever the user put in for the server).
This is why the MS RDP app is failing in situations where the FQDN for the RD Gateway and Connection Broker uses
the same host name.
Again, this is not a configuration problem on our end as it works as intended with the native Windows RDP client
as well as the Mac and iOS version of the mobile RDP client (all based on iTap Mobile's RDP app).
This is a problem specific to the Android RDP app.
PS: No matter how hard I try, the WYSIWYG editor is not very WYSIWYG at all, and so everything here looks messed up even though it looked right when I posted it (it is deleting new blank lines I'm inserting to make it spaced out and easier to read). See
below to read the post in context. Thanks for the bumps, everyone. I haven't check this thread in a while because I basically gave up on Microsoft's ability to respond. Unlike paid apps, there's no number to call or ticket to open when an app like this malfunctions.
Just to give you an update, iOS users started having issues connecting a few months ago. I don't remember what version started this. I'm not sure if it's the same problem.
Also, the newest version now gives a slightly different error message: RpcOverHttpEndpointException: 2, Your connection was denied because of a Resource Access Policy (TS_RAP). Please contact your server administrator.
For Android users, I am starting to recommend Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client. It's a paid app, but it works great. I don't know of any alternative for iOS.
MSRDP for Mac OSX (was also an iTap application) continues to work throughout the many updates.
We need a software engineer from MS to read my first post. All the information that will point to a fix is there. I strongly believe someone hardcoded the string "localhost" instead of using a variable to point to the FQDN of the rdsfarm
name.
Here's that info again (copied/pasted). It doesn't take an engineer to understand the issue. If you know how to decipher Event Logs, you can see where the problem is.

DFS Replication failed to contact Domain Controller.....
I have seen this error since the inception of this stand alone AD PDC instance of Windows server 2012 R2 Essentials. I understand that Essentials does not support other Domain Controllers ; Member servers ; or trust between Domains of any kind. I also
understand that DSF Replication is a service that replicates files between other servers and other domain servers that Essentials dose not want to talk to.
So my question is why am I seeing this DFSR error 1202 in my event log, if Essentials does not support communication to other servers and domain servers? Maybe a better question is why does Essentials even try to implement this
service? Do I even need to try to resolve this issue or should I just disable it and move on?

Did you mean that you did not configure a DFS server in the new DC but you get the DFSR error 1202 in your event log? Then the issue is not related to the existing SBS domain.
Please try to turn off the Windows Firewall to check if it causes the issue. You could also refer to the articles below to troubleshoot the issue:
