[SOLVED] Font of QT applications in Fluxbox

Hi all
This is my very first post on this forum
Anyway, I'm busy setting up a little server box at home hosting various servers (LAMP etc) in VirtlualBox VMs to play around with.
I'm using Fluxbox on my host. By Googling, I could easily find help on making the fonts of GTK apps in my WM more readable by creating a .gtkrc-2.0 and setting the font name+size in there. But I couldn't find anything similar for apps that depends on QT libs (Virtual Box GUI in this case) and the font for it is very small and ugly. Is there such a file to configure QT fonts?
Thanks
Derek

Mmm.
So what can provide the widget layer for Virtual Box on my machine then? I thought it is built on top of QT.
I don't seem to have QT installed.
$ qt<tab> produces nothing in my terminal. (I think - can't remember now.) But I will check again when I get back home tonight.
I installed closed source Virtual Box 2.1.4 from the binary package from virtualbox.org. Only had some virtualisation lib as a dependency) and I never installed QT or other apps that would pull down dependent libs via pacman.
Thanks, will let you know if this worked.

    Hi,
    To change the font size of the Application menu, you need to change main.css file.
    at 'body, td, input, select, textarea' class.

  • [SOLVED] "Open Containing Folder" Issue in Fluxbox

    Hello! I am fairly new to Arch so any help is greatly appreciated.
    I am using fluxbox as my window manager and thunar as my file manager.
    When I right click on a song in banshee and select "Open Containing Folder" the folder is opened in firefox which is fairly annoying. This also happens when I try to show a download in it's folder in google chrome. I am not able to select "Open Containing Folder" for a firefox download (it is grayed out).
    I am guessing the issue is that fluxbox doesn't know what file manager to use so it defaults to firefox for some reason. Is there a way to set default applications for fluxbox?
    Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Small unreadable fonts in several applications

    I recently installed Adobe Reader 8 for Mac OS X 10.5.
    When I tried to activate the Adobe Reader "search document"
    feature, the new search page that popped up had a font so small
    that I could not read any of the text. All text appeared to be
    fuzzy small lines. I invoked "Preferences" for the Adobe
    Reader app, and the Preferences page that popped up had fonts
    so small again I could not read them and make any changes.
    Today I fired up MySQL Query Browser which was working well
    under Mac OS X 10.4. The font in the "Schemas" tab is so small
    I can not read the entries.
    I've been searching the web and forums but have not had any luck
    finding a fix. Has anyone else encountered this problem of
    extremely small fonts in various applications after upgrading
    to OS X 10.5?
    Thanks for any guidance on how to fix this.

    What you want to do is type about:config in the URL, then dialog in the filter window.  Change the entry print.use_native_file_dialog to false.  That's worked for me for the 2.x swiftfox versions.
    I have not been able to get the 3.x betas to work, however, and the font problem is all over in those versions - menus and the main window both.  It makes the browser unusable to me.  I think that the whole font problem relates to the pango (lib32-pango) library somehow, but haven't had the time to track it down to know for sure.
    Hope that you can at least the 2.x version working - good luck!

  • I am Missing Fonts across Several Applications

    Over the last few weeks when I open an application from ILife '06, or some of my recent projects in other apps, I come up with missing fonts. I have seen this happen in IWeb, IDVD, Livetype, InDesign, and Illustrator. Should I replace these fonts by dragging from my Font Book? How do I do that with the ILife Apps? Does this sound like a virus is corrupting my otherwise reliable Mac? If so, what Virus management software is recommended? Thank you for your suggestions.

    hello , i'm new to discussions,
    i lost some of my most used fonts
    from all applications. i installed tiger
    almost a year ago, things were working fine.
    i use fonts in photoshop cs2, appleworks, etc.,
    one night i went to use my fonts, they were gone,
    not all but the ones i use all the time, i.e. bradley hand,
    bickley script, etc.
    i shut my mac down, restarted and they were back.
    this happened about a week later, i went searching for
    font book, found it, looked, found none of my fonts in there.
    re started mac they were back, this happened two more times
    and then after restart they were gone for good.
    my mail still lists them but when i try to set them as preferences
    it goes to a different font... don't know what to do, but i'm losing my
    patience. i have 2 other users, the fonts are not there either...

  • How to Modify Font Size at Application Level

    There is a requirement to change the font size at the application level for ease of readability. Is there an easy way to accomplish this requirement in APEX 3.0?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    ~Phyllis

    Ah, alright so then the font does not have to change size on request?
    You just want to increase the font size of a report or form?
    If you just want to increase the font size of everything, you can add this to your Page's header...
    <style type="text/css">
    * {font-size:20px;}
    </style>If you just want to change the font-size of something in particular, then you'll have to get the CSS it refers to (use Firebug in Firefox).
    For example, to change some headers and data in template 15...
    <style type="text/css">
    .t15RegionHeader
    font-size:12px;
    tr td.t15data
    font-family:verdana;
    font-size:10px;
    white-space:nowrap;
    th.t15header
    font-family:verdana;
    font-size:10px;
    color: #efefef;
    </style>Hope this helps.

  • How do I deactivate fonts in Adobe applications, CS6, Mac OS 10.6.8?

    After years using font management applications (Suitcase, FontExplorer) a couple of years ago suspicion of corrupt fonts led me to strip down to using just FontBook as a minimalist font management tool. It is very cumbersome though that even though in FontBook I deactivate all the fonts I'm not working with or wanting to explore, a huge list shows up in my Adobe applications. How can I control/sync my preferences for which fonts are active or not? I'm a graphic designer, so this is a real annoyance.

    You cannot deactivate fonts when the are installed as system fonts. But you can install fonts for some software manufacturer like Adobe for them only in the Application Support in their subfolder is a font.
    With InDesign you can also install fonts for InDesign only in InDesign's font folder.
    With in InDesign you can also install fonts on a Document level only, if you place them in a folder named "Document fonts" which has to be in the same directory as the INDD file is.
    But with the current CC versions you see in the font dialog a star at the left of the font's name. Click on this star, then it will become a Favorite, and then you can click above to filter your favorites only. This will hide all other fonts. This may work for you to reduce the list.

  • Font problem in applications like dmenu and dzen

    With urxvt, I can use DejaVu Sans Mono at 16 pixel without any problems, but when I use dmenu or dzen (the problem may not be directly related to those) the font looks strange; it looks like the correct font, but xfontsel revealed that the font can be used but apparently only at 17 pixel and beeing italic. Any idea how that can be solved?

    Ignore what xfontsel says. Try the following:
    echo "Archlinux is the best!" | dzen2 -fn '-*-dejavu sans-medium-r-normal--10-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1' -p
    Adjust pixelsize to your liking.

  • Show font command crashes application

    I recently posted a complaint that Show font (cmd-T) reproducibly crashes Mail. I have been trying to find out which line in my Mail preferences is responsible for this, when suddenly I discovered that the same behavior occurs in Textedit !
    Clearly my Mail preferences have nothing to do with it.
    So what is the common thread? They both seem to make use of the same utility.
    Any help out there?

    This sounds like it may be the solution. However, when I open Font Book it starts to load then crashes. Any suggestion? Thanks for your help!

  • [SOLVED] Fonts too small on X

    Hi,
    My fonts are waaay too small for my linking.
    I've recently migrated to Arch (I don't know what's been keeping me ), and since the doc is *so* great, I've just had two tiny issues.
    My fonts are really small.  About half the size I'm used to.  I formerly used Fedora, and GDM/LXDM magically made them bigger (I remember I once booted on runlevel 3 and ran startx, and the fonts weren't big).
    I've checked .gtkrc-2.0
    I've looked at the wiki (at Font Configuration and Fonts FAQ)
    I've check all the X PPI (DPI) stuff.  On both OSs the DPI is set fine (and equally on both).  I calculated it manually, and I get 68.8dpi.  It's set to 69 now.
    Update
    Running "startx -- -dpi 96" makes the fonts look *just* like I want them to.  (I've already configured the rendering just like I like it, it's just the size that's annoying me).
    However, running "xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources" from my .xinitrc does not fix the issue.
    $ cat .Xresources
    xft.dpi: 96
    Also, adding the following to ~/.fonts.config resulted in no changes either:
    <match target="pattern">
    <edit name="dpi" mode="assign"><double>96</double></edit>
    </match>
    Any idea what the problem is?
    Thanks, cheers!
    Update 2
    This fixed the issue:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
    EndSection
    Using Xresources didn't work for some reason, and xrdb gave no output, oddly.  Or any of the other methods.  Only passing the DPI explicitly to X worked.  So I guess that fixes the issue (using startx -- -dpi 96 was way too dirty/hackish.

    thestinger wrote:
    Do you use KDE or GNOME? AFAIK they override DPI by default (for some applications)
    You might also have DPI set in .Xresources/.Xdefaults or your .fonts.conf.
    Do you use any of the patched font packages? There's a respect-fontconfig patch for cairo that might help https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/21108.
    I only use a WM, and no dpi set in .Xdefaults.or .fonts.conf.
    Also using the patched cairo, as you can see in the first comment on that flyspray report.
    (i don't think it's a cairo issue though)
    Edit: i should add that terminal fonts are okay, so it seems that mainly gtk-apps show problems.

  • Embedding fonts with an application

    This is a multipart question so I will put up some bucks for a good answer.
    I am writing an application and have a set of fonts that I want to bundle with it. I want the application to use ONLY these fonts and not have access to any other system fonts. Does anyone have any experience with this and is it even possible. My thinking is that I would need to somehow install the fonts on the users system and then modify the font.properties file. I would like to bundle everything together in the application but I don't think that is possible, is it?
    If this is a simple thing and I have just not looked in the right places for an answer than point out those places to me and earn some Dukes! I have looked everywere and there doesn't seem to be much info out there, but what do I know... I may be dumb, I do not argue that.
    WHAT DO I DO?
    CAN I DO ANYTHING?
    I AM TIRED!
    Help me and earn big bucks.
    Thanks.

    Well if you're using JDK 1.3 and up, you can do it easily with the following code:
    FileInputStream fileStream = null;
    Font font = null;
    try {
    fileStream = new FileInputStream("BASSETB.TTF");
    font = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, fileStream);
    font = font.deriveFont(Font.PLAIN, 12);
    fileStream.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {}
    Font.createFont(x,y) only works with true type fonts, and is only availabe after JDK 1.3. But you don't have to mess with any properties files this way.

  • Change the font of an application in just one place

    Hello!
    The default style for the default java font in a Swing application is bold. I'd like not to have the bold style in the font of my entire application.
    So, is there a way for me to set this in only one place (change the bold style) and that all the frames and dialogs of my application reflect this change automatically, without me not having to change this in all frames?
    Thank you...

    Got this off google:
        Font f = getDefaultFont();  // implement this yourself...
        java.util.Enumeration keys = UIManager.getDefaults().keys();
        while (keys.hasMoreElements()) {
          Object key = keys.nextElement();
          Object value = UIManager.get (key);
          if (value instanceof javax.swing.plaf.FontUIResource)
            UIManager.put (key, f);
        }I take no blame if it doesn't work, nor do I accept any credit if it does.
