(SOLVED) GDM input in English, should be German

Hi,
this is a minor problem that I've experienced since my last reinstallation with the archboot-CD (2008.12). GDM came along with the gnome and gnome-extra packages that I used to install GNOME. Although I'm using the German keyboard input in GNOME (works fine), and xorg.conf and rc.conf are edited in the same way ("Xkblayout" "de" in xorg.conf, "de_DE.utf8" in rc.conf), the input in GDM is English! The language in GDM however, is German, too. Once I had the same problem when the new hotplugging feature of X was turned on, but I disabled it by now. To sum up, the language and the keyboard input in GNOME and the CLI is German, but the input in GDM is in English.
I wonder what has caused this little bug, since I'm not sure whether I've done anything different from my last installation. I hope you might give me a hint to get the input wo work as expected.

Hi,
I wasn't aware that some users have problems with the instruction in the Wiki. I, for one, managed GDM's input by editing the HAL-policies as instructed in the Wiki. Here's exactly what I did:
Copy /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/. Open the file. It's an XML file so there are many markups. However, look for a tag that includes "input.xkb.layout", the keyword "us" is in the same line. Change it to "de". Restart your machine or the HAL-daemon.
Yeah, this is exactly what I did. I'm sorry if this doesn't help you. Perhaps you could tell me what you've already done and we can look for other possibilities.

  • Dialog boxes in english, should be german

    Hello,
    I am currently having some issues with the dialog box languages.
    Photoshop was installed with a fully legal liscence and is up to date. Afterwards, it was deployed using filewave to several clients. All of them are having the same problem.
    When saving a document the dialog box partly appears english. This also happens with the "open" or "replace" dialogs.
    I marked the correct parts green, the english ones red in this screenshot:
    Photoshop was installed setting the language to german. Other language settings look fine.
    I have already tried to enter the following in the terminal:
    defaults write com.adobe.photoshop AppleLanguages -array '( German )'
    Unfortunately, that did not work for me.
    I'd be glad to hear some advices from you.
    Thanks in advance,
    pvfanatic

    Chris Cox wrote:
    Again, the open and save dialogs come from the OS, not from Photoshop itself.
    No, there is no way to use the "wrong" dialog.
    I don't know of any OS setting that would affect that other than the main language choices.
    Is there any chance you installed a utility program that modifies the open/save dialogs?
    It looks like the OP has done exactly that.

  • English language in ESS which should be German

    Hi,
    I have a little translation problem in our portal.
    We installed German language pack but there is still english text displayed in ESS but only in forms such as edit/change address, material status and so on.
    Can you give me a hint were I can change this?
    Thanks
    Christian

    Yes, I'm talking about Web Dynpro.
    The users logon language is set to German. (The rest of the portal is displayed in German.)
    Maybe helpfull:
    If you browse to the Address iview the Button "New: Emergency Address" is translated to "Neu: Emergency Address". Also the steps in the bread crumb are English and not German.
    EDIT:
    Problem solved by SAP.
    Some JCos were set to english. Now everything is running fine.

  • [SOLVED] Japanese Input using IBus/Mozc

    Good day,
    Recently, I finally managed to install Arch (phew!)
    As the title suggests, I need to frequently use Japanese Input. I've tried Anthy, however, the prediction is bad and the dictionaries are lacking.
    Then I've found mozc (successfully utilized on Mint and Manjaro before) along with IBus , which worked really great!
    Running mozc successfully on Arch has been a series of unsuccessful attempts so far. I have browsed tons of pages about people having similar problems, none of the given solutions seem to work for me.
    This is what I've done so far:
    1. After installation of Arch, I installed Cinnamon and GDM.
    2. I've followed IBus installation page. Installed ibus + ibus-qt packages, then installed mozc through yaourt.
    3. Put the lines below to ~/.xprofile (Note: .xprofile didn't exist in the first place, so I created it).
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
    export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
    ibus-daemon -drx
    and in ~/.bashrc
    ibus-daemon -drx
    5. Ran qtconfig-qt4, under the "Interface" tab, set ibus as default.
    6. In /usr/bin/skype, I put the line below.
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
    7. Installed a set of Japanese fonts.
    8. Finally, added the Japanese input -> mozc to my IBus input methods.
    At this point, Japanese input is supposed to work after a relog. I decided to reboot, though, just for safety.
    Yes, IBus did autostart. The tray icon would soon disappear for no reason. After restarting Cinnamon, it would magically re-appear and work with inputs like English/Polish properly. Japanese, too, albeit, not with the desired results.
    First of all, the typed text in Japanese will not appear unless I press enter in applications like Firefox, Leafpad, LibreOffice. That is not the desired behavior of a Japanese Input Method Editor. Back on Mint/Manjaro the text would appear instantly, that's how it's supposed to behave.
    I use Skype extensively, and the Japanese input doesn't seem to work there at all, even after putting the export line into /usr/bin/skype.
    I was hoping somebody here would be able to help me. Thank you in advance!

    Hello,
    I went with the suggestion of using fcitx instead of IBus. I once again decided to follow the fcitx Arch Wiki thoroughly. Here's what I've done:
    I've installed fcitx-im and fcitx-mozc packages. Before that, I completely removed IBus.
    I put this in my ~/.xprofile and ~/.profile
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
    export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
    export XMODIFIERS="@im=fcitx"
    After that, I configured my fcitx, and added mozc as my layout for Japanese.
    Ran this command, too since Gnome apparently tries its best to break other IMEs.
    $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.keyboard active false
    Fcitx seemed much, much better than IBus. It's faster and more responsive, however, the Skype lament still persisted, so I decided to test out one more thing, which has caught my eye whenever I ran an application through the console. The error message was saying something about 'falling back to the "C" locale', so I went way back to the "locale" Arch Wiki article, only to find out, that inside my /etc/locale.gen, I had only one US locale. On top of that, the US locale in locale.gen was different than the US locale in /etc/locale.conf.
    A silly, yet, overlooked mistake.
    After uncommenting my locale, generating a new one and rebooting my system, Skype finally came back to life, and I was able to type Japanese inside its text field.
    Thank you again for your input! This case is solved.

    Hi Danny,
    Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
    but not 180, right?
    I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
    =COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
    or
    =SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
    If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • How to change the present English Version into German Version??

    I want to get changed the language from now English back to German.

    Indeed you get by extra downloading a Firefox-version in German (see above). But installing this you lose a lot, e.g. the bookmarks. The problem is, that the language changes from German zu English due to the automatic Firefox update. Before updating Firefox does not inform the users nor does Firefox ask the users whether they want the update. Users do not have any protection against this arbitraryness. The only solution is to use another browser.

    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    You may want to check the App Store country/region setting on your iPhone, as applications can vary by region:
    Change your iTunes Store country
    Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. TapSettings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.

    After the last upgrade of my system, my Malayalam language Keyboard is not functioning. No problem with Malayalam display though.
    OS: Arch linux, Desktop environment: KDEmod 4.3.2
    I checked System settings > Regional and Language > Keyboard layout. Here is the error message displayed:
    Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_keyboard_layout.so: (libxklavier.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
        Possible reasons:
        An error occured during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
        You have old third party modules lying around
        Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager.
    Now the problem is that, as my /var partition was filled, I had cleared the pacman cache yesterday and so downgrade is not possible.
    Also, Country Flag is not visible anymore.
    UDev uevent takes more time during booting. Padlock not detected.  (Don't know the implications of these two)

  • [SOLVED]GDM don't ask password and fail authentication

    Solved by reinstalling all the stuff involved, like skunktrader said the .pacnew files are the NEW config files that we had to fill with our preferences, because it have new options or diferent stuff
    Thank you again Mr. skunktrader
    Hi everybody.
    I was looking for tunning a bit my installation of arch. and ruined something about X and authentification.
    the files I remember to have deleted are all in /etc that ends in "-" and  ".pacnew" and ".original"
    those files includes shadow- and passwd-.
    I was sure that those files are just backups, but now i dont know.
    so, after that i run pacman -Syu, and then rebooted.
    here is when all load exept gdm, which  show the above panel and the central square with my username. and the cursor from x shows a handclock like it's loading something but never ends to load. I click on my username and dont do anything. i pres enter and here it should ask my password but doesn't do anything, then i press enter again and says authentification failure.
    im tried uninstalling, erasing all configs that i know about gdm, and reinstalling, but no make difference
    i tried slim, kdm, enter, console login to x by .bash_profile, i tried start it in daemon in rc.conf and service in inittab but it still the same thing.
    obiously i have all the functionality of console but none for X

    Hi everybody.
    I was looking for tunning a bit my installation of arch. and ruined something about X and authentification.
    the files I remember to have deleted are all in /etc that ends in "-" and  ".pacnew" and ".original"
    those files includes shadow- and passwd-.
    I was sure that those files are just backups, but now i dont know.
    You should never just delete .pacnew files.  You are meant to merge the contents with your existing files

  • Copy English Translation into German - Programatically

    All,
    This is my requirement.
    We have over 780 custom reports in SAP ECC 6 box. All reports are generated for language English. ( Selection Text and Text elements are only in English ). Now we wanted to use same reports for German. But If we login into German and run reports, all selection text and text elements showing blank.
    So our requirement is to create utility by giving the report name as input it should take all Enligsh text into German as same.
    For Example : for selection option S_MATNR having "Material" in English, and it should copied into German as "Material"
    Please give inputs is there any function module or class we can use ?

    Hi,
    If your request is restricted to ABAP textpool only,  you could try to create a simple report which uses the "READ TEXTPOOL" in the source language and then performs an "INSERT TEXTPOOL" into the target language...
    Let us know if it works
    Regards,
    Andrea

  • [SOLVED] Japanese input makes things weird

    Hello everybody!
    Well, recently I've reinstalled Arch Linux. Everything was ok (as well in the previous installation), but since I've installed the Japanese input/fonts, my fonts got weird into QT applications. But that happens only when I activate the input for QT apps! The following image will show you better what is happening:
    While the correct is:
    I call Anki with the following command:
    export LC_CTYPE="ja_JP.utf8" && anki
    I have the Japanese fonts installed in my computer and the locales.conf is set with the Japanese language. I use GNOME. Any ideas?
    Thank you and apologise this bad written English.
    Daniel

    Oh, I know your problem. I should have noticed it earlier when you showed a screenshot of a program that wasn't in English, but I noticed it now when you posted your .xprofile file. A little too late now I guess.
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sci … ated_files
    You need to add your current locale to the supported unicode locales for scim to work with anything other than GTK programs.
    But if uim works and you like it, you might as well just stick with uim.
    As for defining a font for Asian languages, what do you mean? If you only use Japanese and not Chinese or Korean it shouldn't be much of a problem, you could just put a Japanese font there and it'll borrow from that by default. (Or do you have multiple Japanese fonts or something and you want to choose one?)
    You can set a priorities list, by making certain fonts take priority over others, but you can't set a different font for each language because it is impossible for unicode to tell which language it is. This is my .fonts.conf:
    <fontconfig>
    <alias>
    <family>Monospace</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>DejaVu Sans Mono</family>
    <family>Arial Unicode MS</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <alias>
    <family>sans-serif</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>DejaVu Sans</family>
    <family>iYaHei</family>
    <family>Malgun Gothic</family>
    <family>Arial Unicode MS</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <alias>
    <family>serif</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Times New Roman</family>
    <family>MS Mincho</family>
    <family>MingLiU</family>
    <family>MS Song</family>
    <family>UnBatang</family>
    <family>Arial Unicode MS</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <dir>/home/sokuban/.fontmatrix</dir>
    </fontconfig>
    So for example, "Sans" uses "DejaVu Sans" for Latin characters, and if "Sans" needs to display a glyph that "DejaVu Sans" doesn't have, it tries "iYaHei", then "Malgun Gothic" if "iYaHei" can't display it etc etc.
    However, in firefox you /can/ set a different font for each language. It can be done from the GUI menu: Edit > Preferences > Content > Fonts & Colors

  • Address cleanse output to be in English instead of German.

    During address cleansing, region names in the addresses being processed by BODS are coming in their local country language names. For example one german region name output is coming as "Nordrhein-Westfalen" instead of the English description "Nrth Rhine Westfalia".
    I have set the script code to Latin and Output Country Language to English in the address cleanse transform. But still I am getting the same output.
    Also I am using the German Address pack for the address cleanse transform mentioned above.
    Any pointers to solve the issue mentioned above would be greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    The LATIN script code tells the address engine to use the Latin character set used by English and the Western European languages.  The OUTPUT_COUNTY_LANGUAGE option applies to the country field only.  If you want to post the regions in English you can use a lookup table or search/replace table to convert.
